Chapter Fourteen: The Wolf's Claw Guild's Investigation Continues.
After Astrid left room two she made her way to room two in the honored guest wing. After hearing Natalie's suspicions she wanted to talk to her parents about Ritchie and Brandon's parents to get a better understanding of who they were and what they were like. If anyone knew about the topic it would be them.
Entering the room she saw that the couple was not in the room. It didn't surprise her has she realized that being their legal guardians in the event that they were completely incapacitated. Something that was needed for all guild members under Atlantide Law.
Entering the room she saw the brothers in a bed each. They were both twin size beds however the room had been turned into a hospital room. Medial equipment of various kinds were surrounding the brothers. One of the rooms adjacent to theirs which Astrid learned to initially be Natalie's had been converted into a small mini lab.
As for Richie and Brandon themselves, they didn't look well at all. Both were pale and laying in their bed's unconscious Brandon had a ventilator on to help him breath and Ritchie side of the room had everything that one needed to treat the aftermath of a long seizure. Both of them also had monitors that showed the flow of their magic as well.
Aside from a few medical professionals and guards the only people in the room were Marcelina and Drake, who were talking to some of the nurses about Ritchie and Brandon's conditions. Astrid walked over carefully and approached the couple while making sure to keep her body language open yet serious.
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Minerva? My name is Astrid and I'm with Wolf's Claw, a royal candidacy guild. We've been assigned for one of our royal guild trial quest to investigate the poisoning of your nephews. Is it okay if I ask you a few questions right now if you're not busy?" Astrid asked the couple with a soft and friendly smile.
"Oh hello, sure I guess, me and my husband are just waiting for the boys to wake up and for the test results to get back to us on what type of poison was used. You said your name was Astrid yes, what questions do you have for us?" Marcelina asked with a soft tone.
"I want to ask you about Ritchie and Brandon's parents. Firstly I'd like to ask about their relationship with them. From what I understand they are not on good terms." Astrid began softly. Marcelina and Drake frowned looking at one another before turning back to her.
"You're right about that. We were asked to take them in when they were six years old. Tell me Astrid how familiar are you with our home world?" Marcelina asked the 18-year-old with a frown.
"I'm not too familiar with-it no. I've studied the gift abilities you guys have there but not much else." Astrid replied with a frown. She might have to look into that if she finds more evidence that Ritchie and Brandon's parents are involved in this somehow.
"On our home world there are many rules that the rulers of our kingdom had to follow. Many of them are similar to the rules that the rulers have to follow here. One such rule was that under no circumstances could the regent ruler harm their child in any way. My sister Angela wasn't in favor of this believing that pain disciplines a child better than teaching them why certain things are wrong and has no lasting effect on them than that.
She also believes that a parent has the right to choose what a child will do in life and that they should not question them. She also believes that rulers should be able to treat their subjects however they wish no matter how cruel or humiliating. That they are chosen to be better than their people by the gods. But that is not the case as you should very well know. Mother and father tried their hardest to address this problem, but my older sister is too stubborn for her own good when it comes to this. She was originally first in line for the throne.
However after my sister broke the rule when trying to force my younger sister Muriel into an unwanted relationship with a prince from a powerful kingdom that was slacking her. Mother and father, along with the rest of my family decided to voluntarily remove her from the heirship to the throne. Needless to say, someone with as much greed for power as my sister would not take that well and my family knew it. At first they hoped that lowering her rank in the line of succession would help humble and teach her not to abuse her authority. But as I said before she was too stubborn for her own good. Instead of taking the consequence of her actions as a lesson she saw it as a setback in her plans.
One day during a ball that my parents were hosting she met a man who was just like her. Prince Soren Diabolus of Salode, second in line the throne of Salode. When they realized that they had similar desires they made a plan. They'd act as if they learned from their mistakes and eventually pretend to live happily as the duke and duchess of Salode. They then secretly prepared a coup and successfully took over Salode, killing King Claus and his family and eventually gave birth to my nephews. For six long years no one knew that Soren had killed Claus but one day Grand Royal Representative Shari Henderson sent an agent to investigate an anonymous tip that one of Soren's staff members sent, saying that he was harming his children intentionally and had betrothed Brandon off to the young Princess of a neighboring Kingdom, Princess Francesca Sullivan of Zathage. However the process that they used to do so was illegal.
It wasn't long before the Grand Royal Council found out about what they were planning. It started at a ballroom party that me and my husband were attending. My nephews spoke with Francesca's older sister Josephine who investigated the matter and exposed their parents lies about Brandon liking Francesca and found out that there was illegal registration of betrothment when She and Brandon was six. King and Queen Sullivan both were under the understanding that the betrothal wouldn't be registered until Francesca and Brandon were of legal age and that it would only be registered if they both held feelings for one another.
Has a result of this incident an investigation was called for by the GRC and the truth of king Claus and his wife's death came out, along with how they treated their children in private. With that in mind they were sent to live with us and legally dethroned. After that since the Royal House of Diabolus, not having any more members resulted in a new dynasty being needed. Because me and my husband were the ones given custody of my nephews and the fact that their mother was my sister we were called to be the new royal family and took over the kingdom. Throughout that time Francesca, despite the orders of her parents, continued to push for an arranged marriage between her and Brandon. However my nephew's parents eventually escaped their prison and retook the throne illegally thanks to some inside help they had. Thankfully we were able to escape the castle and formed the freedom resistance. Ever since that day have ruled with an iron fist and killed a number of our people in their search for us. Though we did manage to retake the throne for a time before losing it once more." Marcelina explained sadly.
Just as Astrid was about to respond an elite guard came into the room. "Mrs. And Mr. Minerva, we have an update on the investigation. The test results for all drinks at your table are in and it appears that they have been poisoned as well. We've also identified the poison that was used. It was a heavy metal and magic based poison that targeted the mage's mana systems and gifts as well. It was a man-made poison which we have named Strynusyth. It's a mixture of Stryrnusyl and Vresyth. We are thankfully the antidotes to both poisons and are using them to make a cure. Lady Emelia is requesting that you, your husband and mother along with your daughter and niece take it as well in case you ended up drinking some of the poison. I should also note that yours and your daughter's drinks had a higher concentration of the poison then your nephew."
Drake nodded in understanding before taking a quick one at his wife noticing that she was a bit pale herself and he himself felt lightheaded. "Agreed, it would be for the best for us to be tested as well. I suspect that your theory about us ingesting the poison is not too far of the mark." Marcelina nodded before sitting down. Sensing she wouldn't be able to talk to them any more for a while Astrid turned to leave when Marcelina stopped her.
"Astrid, there is one more thing you should know. My sister and her husband wanted to make Brandon and Ritchie immune to all poisons. The second poison in that mixture, Vresyth. That was the next poison on the list that they planned to expose them to." Marcelina informed her with a frown.
Astrid nodded and took note of the information. She then took out a note pad and wrote out a list of suspects, their motives, the evidence that she had and notes. She didn't have much but she knew that it was best to keep track of these things. Not only for herself but for the records that Taro needed to send in when he was done filing the case with the guards.

Details of the Case: The royal family of Atlantide were holding a party to celebrate the inauguration of the newest royal guild Divinus Magia, the party started off normally when at 6:00 Pm Queen Kathleen Pierceton of Magiclica saw a servant named Anthony who was later revealed to be an imposter poor something into the new royal guild leader's drinks. Initially due to the low number of reserves on duty due to the party Wolf's Claw was called into investigate how the imposter got in.
Thirty minutes later Royal Guild Leader Brandon Diabolus went from the table after drinking from the poisoned glasses which had not been removed despite orders from his majesty to do so, to the children's play area to check on his younger sister. Furthermore the medical staff assigned to the party detail were not at their station. After the poison had started to take effect his majesty ordered the elite guard to secure the building and investigate everyone in the guard and palace staff. Afterword's the place was put on a near lock down to investigate the situation.
Follow up notes
The drinks of the victim's family were also poisoned and appeared to have been targeted. Unknown if this was intentional or not.
The poison used was a new man-made poison called Strynusyth which appears to be a mixture of Stryrnusyl and Vresyth
Astrid turned to a new page and began to write out a list of suspects and their motives and what evidence they have that they are involved. While she did that she thought about her two most recent conversations and looked at the clues that she had gained from them to see if she could find any new leads.

The victim's aunt, who is her sister, Marcelina Minerva, received custody of the victims and later their younger sister when she and her husband, Soren Diabolus was charged with child abuse and abuse of power.

One of the poisons used in the mixture, Vresyth was the poison she and her husband planned to train her sons to be immune to.

Astrid thought for a moment before nodding. Satisfied that she had entered a list of suspects from her last two conversations and an idea of who was more likely to be the ringleader. The question was how did they get the imposters into the palace? However that wasn't her task at the moment, her task was to question the guest of honor and find out what they knew about these people or anyone else who could have planned this. So with her mind made up she made her way to the rooms of the rest of Divinus Magia.
