Spoilers for At All Costs.
"It's rare we get together, because of Bolthole, but we're planning an attack on the Manticorian Home System. Would you like to be my ops officer one more time? I know you're really too senior for the job, but you're so good at it, and given what we did last time you were my ops officer, we need the luck. I think we have enough skilled staff at Bolthole to send you back to the front again, and you're the one who has the most experience with the new "donkey" pods." Admiral Lester Tourville asks his protege, and friend, Vice Admiral Shannon Foraker.
"If you think Bolthole can handle itself without me for the long run…" Shannon replies.
"Yes, I believe it can. You also need experience on ship command, so as you're very senior for this role, I'll have you help with ops plans, and command a task group of your own. I know you can do this, as you commanded a bigger force as a Commodore dealing with StateSec when you were wiping out the big pirate force."
Shannon, sitting down, looks out the pinnace's window at the ocean below her, her hands folded in her lap. Her mentor, Admiral Tourville, puts his hand on her elbow. She looks out at the tropical island she can see in the distance. I don't think this is a torture site, but I can't be sure…
As the pinnace descends, Shannon watches the island grow bigger, and holds hands with Tourville, trying to stay strong.
