Early one morning, Shannon checks the news on her homeworld of Elvana in the news app, like she has started doing every morning. She notices that on the mentioned list of events the Queen will be attending is a capital ship commissioning ceremony and, when she looks at extra details, is realized to see that none of the ships have her name on them.
She then checks the Havenite newfaxes and starts the download of the State of The Republic speech by President Prichart that was just delivered to Manticore via a news service's dispatch boat, straight from Haven. It looks like the boat was able to use the Bassilk wormhole, but not Trevor's Star, as the speech is about 3 weeks old. This means Trevor's Star is still reserved for 8th Fleet, likely, if they haven't been pulled to replace Home Fleet, after how much we shot up Home Fleet, thinks also downloads CNO Theisman's Navy Update documentary, and the latest message out of the President's office, before walking out on the beach with Admiral Tourville and pressing play on the documentary.
Partway through the documentary…
CNO Theisman says, confidently, "To all of our officers in enemy hands, if you somehow manage to get your hands on this, know that we haven't forgotten about you. Stay strong, and know that we are investigating the diplomatic notes that everyone claims we faked. Know that the Navy would never do such a thing, regardless of what the Manties have told you, just like we didn't assassinate President Harriss, unlike what the Committee claimed. The scene cuts to Péricard Tower, with President Prichart, CNO Theisman, Admiral Chin, and Shannon's entire family standing in the President's office, as the President and the officers were holding things.
Admiral Chin, normally not one for emotions, unless she had had enough with someone, and was going to verbally off someone, "I nominated your daughter" a popup briefly showed Shannon as a Commander, when she was trying to save Nimitz and Honor from Citizen Chairwoman Ransom's wrath, before cutting back to the group in the President's office, "for an award, for saving my fleet by catching Harrington's firing of the new Manticorian missile tech, that cost us Admiral Tourville and his fleet, along with his entire staff. Make sure she knows we're all extremely grateful for her skills." She nods to Admiral Theisman, who hands Shannon's mom and dad, who are holding hands, the Thanks of Congress, and a folded flag to Shannon's cousin, Captain Eimear Foraker, before nodding to President Prichart, who hands Shannon's aunt, Queen Kiera Sloane Foraker, a folded flag,
Admiral Chin continues, "To the Manticorian government. Again, we didn't attempt to alter your Admiral's flag lieutenant, just like what we told your Countess Gold Peak after she was captured. We don't appreciate being framed for stuff we didn't do."
