Even though they were only staying at the Fiji resort for a few days, people still got caught up in their own little routines. Every morning Adrien would wake up early, and eagerly wait for Marinette on the dock with breakfast. Every morning Komar would strut by, shoot finger guns at Adrien, and then hoist a fishing rod, and take one of the resort boats out. Every morning Marinette over slept, and would come jogging over, hastily pulling her hair up in ponytails. And every morning was better than the last!
"Where do you think Komar goes every day?" Adrien finally asked Marinette one morning.
Marinette shrugged, "he must really like fishing...or diving...he was bragging about being awesome at that too the other day."
"Do you think it's safe for him out there on his own?"Adrien asked, squinting to the distance where his boat had gone around a bend out of sight.
Both Adrien and Marinette were suddenly started by a loud and piercing shriek from Chloe's beachfront suite. Apparently a tiny wayward lizard had found its way into her shower. The poor apologetic staff had to spend the next hour calming her down with a therapeutic massage, sea scrub rub, scented candles, and even download music of Paris traffic sounds ("to block out the sound of the ocean swishing around nonstop," Chloe had complained).
"I think Komar is safer out there!" Marinette giggled. "But at least this time the wifi didn't go down!"
Adrien nodded absentmindedly, but kept watching the water anyway.
They would always miss Komar coming back, and he would pop up right in time to make it to their next shoot, looking fresh and polished as ever.
Over the next couple days the SQ crew packed in as many photo shoot locations as they could in their limited schedule. This kept Alexis and Marinette very busy, ensuring everything went smoothly. By the end of the trip Vincent shared some of the shots with the group, and even Audrey Bourgious was really impressed! Late into the afternoon everyone was chatting about their favourite moment captured by Vincent!
Tiana said her favourite was the local village market nearby where they got to do shopping. She had posed by a stall of colourful fruit in a gorgeous fusea sun dress.
Brandon said the best photo showed him playing rugby with some of the local kids. In the picture one of the little kids was tacking him to the ground with a big smile on his face.
Komar couldn't keep his eyes off a simple landscape photo Vincent had taken the day before of a oyster farm on the bay.
"You like that!?" Chloe pouted behind him, startling him out of his trace.
He pasted a smile on his face, and shrugged uncomfortably. Then he quickly pointed at a selfie Chloe had taken and posted as her phone wallpaper. "Now that's a picture!" he gushed, "all that is missing is me!" This caused Chloe to flutter around him again, and then they preceded to take some more disgustingly cheesy selfies together.
"My favourite experience was meeting the local Chief in the village, on that other island!" Venasio interrupted enthusiastically. "Sharing some kava at the greeting ceremony. Then capturing those epic action shots on the natural water slide! That was totally exhilarating! The photos ended up really dynamic too."
"How about your favourite?" Marinette elbowed Adrien.
Adrien found it hard to narrow down just one...But then Adrien paused and pointed decidedly to a picture of he and Marinette looking out from the dock together. They sat with their backs to the photographer, and Marinette's head was on his shoulder. "That's my favourite," Adrien confirmed.
Marinette's favourite?...well that would be no surprise to you readers who read the last chapter...but these photos were not publicly shared. Earlier Vincent had privately shown Marinette some of the photos he had caught of she and Adrien kissing at the waterfall pool. Marinette thanked Vincent for giving her the sole copies of these. She planed on framing one for Adrien once they got home (not to mention a few copies for herself...maybe make it her screensaver...).
Since it was the last night, Audrey commenced the release of all her summer fashion line with a private runway show for local designers they had been collaborating with.
Alexis had even insisted that the jacket Marinette had 'altered' be included in the casual section of the show. Marinette was thrilled to see all the pieces she knew that Alexis had toiled over, come to light in vivid colour on the illuminated boardwalk. The entire show had been a flawless success.
As the enthusiastic audience applauded Audrey leaned over to Komar, and commented, "I'm glad my intuition about you was right. Your suggestion to have my
summer fashion launch on this island ended up ideal."
"Don't mention it," Komar smiled. "You are the one who made it all possible. I've been looking forward to an opportunity like this for a long time."
Audrey nodded, satisfied at receiving the credit in return and moved past him to receive the congratulations of more influential contemporaries.
Chloe latched onto Komar's arm, while the resort staff circulated with colourful drinks and appetizers.
The party went on into the night. A local band played, and everyone forgot the long hours, the sweltering heat, and Audrey's sharp critiques from their island adventure; they just celebrated and danced.
Ooo
One last time Adrien waited on the dock the next morning for Marinette...which she actually woke up early for! Komar must have been up really early too, because they didn't see him go out, only his boat pulling back in. They saw him walk back from the beach with a satisfied strut.
Before they knew it, the crew was coming around to get them to pack.
It was hard to leave the fresh salty air and the open blue of the sky knowing if they would be stuck on a plane for nearly a whole day. Even though some moments had been stressful or a lot of work, it was hard to say goodbye to Fiji.
"Look at the souvenir Komar got me!" Chloe gushed to all those in the general vicinity as they boarded the plane. She flashed a truly stunning bracelet wrapped around her wrist made of eight pristine black island pearls. "It is simply gorgeous!"
"Wow! That is sooo pretty!" the model named Tasia leaned over to see.
There were more "ooohs" and "awes" from others around her. Marinette had to admit, she expected Komar's style to be much more tacky, but the bracelet was downright elegant.
"The boy does have taste," Audrey peered over her thick sunglasses, to inspect the piece, and stiffly nodded in approval.
Chloe swelled. Getting expensive jewelry from her boyfriend was great, but a nod from her mother...that rarely ever happened!
Chloe sat back down into her seat next to Komar, gazing happily at her present. He looked from the bracelet, to Chloe's expression and smiled to himself. Everything was going according to plan.
