Chat Noir could still hear the distant roar of the crowd cheering back at the Bumba Meu Boi festival. He started out just planning on stepping outside for some air to clear his head, but there was nothing like running on rooftops to escape invading thoughts you weren't quite ready to face. Soon the rooftops gave way to the broad Amazon canopy.

The sun had gone down, and getting out of the festival saturated city was peaceful. He used his baton to drop down to the edge of the river. He sighed deeply dropping down, with his head in his paws.

"Plagg, Claws out," he said automatically, and before Plagg could insist, Adrien had produced a generous chuck of cheese for his kwami. While Plagg munched, they both looked out over the dark, flowing water.

Adrien didn't say anything to Plagg, and Plagg just took occasional concerned glances over at Adrien. The kid had been through a lot this year, and things had been so positive recently…but that didn't mean that the darkness still couldn't creep in now and then.

Adrien's head started to nod, and he almost dozed off, when a subtle splash made his ears perk up. A pink dorsal fin crested the water, and then sunk eerily back down again.

"Did you see that Plagg?" Adrien whispered, sliding onto his knees.

"Maybe it's time to go check back in with Ladybug!" Plagg replied, not interested in duelling strange water creatures.

"It almost looked like…" Adrien started to say when the fin rose up in the identical spot as before, creating the exact same splash.

"Did you see that Plagg?" Adrien whispered again.

"Maybe it's time to go check back in with Ladybug!" Plagg replied in a tone carbon-copy to the time before.

A narrow nose broke through the water in front of them both grinning with a long set of teeth. It was a pink river dolfin from the Amazon.

"For a second I thought I just saw…" Adrien pressed his fingers against his temples. "What a weird case of…"

"déjà vu?" the river dolphin grinned mischievously. "Yeah…that's my thing!"

"So my eyes weren't playing tricks on me! Both times that was you!" Adrien studied the mottled pink dolphin. Them he scrambled to his feet in excitement. "You're the dolphin kwami! The one we needed to find! The memory kwami to restore memories erased by the unicorn kwami from the lost miracle box!" Adrien exclaimed.

The River Dolphin grinned at Adrien using the word 'unicorn', shaking it's long nose 'no.' "Close…but not quite kid…although, the family resemblance is uncanny! I'm a wild kwami…I was never one of those that tied myself to indecisive humans and the jewels…and I never usually concerned myself with the trials either. The dolphin kwami of restoring memories is still hidden from you. "

"Boto here…well, he always thought he was too superior to bother with the rest of us," grumbled Plagg, with crossed arms. "After all the times we really could have used your help too!"

"I see too much…humans couldn't handle it?" the pink dolphin paddled forward, seeming unaffected by Plagg's opinion of him. "…but…this weilder of yours is different…I needed to be here to help him tonight!"

"Me?!…you knew I'd be here tonight? But I didn't even plan to be here…how did you…So…what do you do exactly?" Adrien asked in a rush, trying to figure things out.

"I hold glimpses into untaken paths…alternate realities…help trigger a memory of moments that didn't seem significant…but were really the key to your current future!" the river dolphins paddled around on it's side, motioning in the air casually with his flipper.

"Well…that is pretty impressive….but why does that help me? Adrien asked confused.

"I get flashes of countless possibilities for the future…and the only ones that didn't end up in total chaos involved me seeing you tonight," the river dolphin confided. "Still…there are other scenarios where I show you a glimpse that could bring us all back to the Chat Blanc Apocalypse situation again! Wouldn't want that would we!" the river dolphin laughed manically.

"Chat Blanc…" Adrien said just above a haunted whisper. "In Bhutan I found out that there had been another timeline where I had found out Ladybug's identify too soon…and that I had…lost control. But Ladybug really never wanted to talk about it…I don't know if she would have ever told me anything if the snow leapord hadn't tried to kill me."

"You weren't supposed to know. It is better if everyone just stays on their on path, rather than obsessing on what ' might have been," the dolphin said. "But this is different. Something is coming that was never supposed to happen in any line of time, and it is clouding all futures. Bunnix came to warn me, and finally convinced me to intervene."

"You know Bunnix!" Adrien asked in surprise.

"Really?! That is what amazes you? Well…yes…she found me a while back, and I've got to say of all the humans out there…well, she is something!" the boto replied, leaning to one side affectionately.

"So…?" Adrien prompted. "What did I need to know about the future?"

The dolphin's rose skin shone in the early moonlight. It held out a flipper, and Adrien reached out his hand. As soon as his skin graced the dolphin mismatched images started flickering through his mind.

Ladybug staring into his eyes, her face bathed in moonlight whispering the word "perfect…"

Adrien looking at a mirror reflection of himself, and the reflection winked at him menacingly.

Chloe looking off into the distance playing with the pearl bracelet Komar had given her from Fiji.

A weathered map showing Lake Baikal in Russia.

Marinette calling his name in a panic.

The Statue of Liberty being engulfed in a massive wave.

A vast desert stretching to the edge of the Red Sea, and a dorsal fin rising to the surface.

The Easter Island statues frowning stoically from the cliffs.

Adrien let out a gasp, and stumbled backward, "Wha…what does all that mean?! What am I supposed to do?"

"When the time comes I hope that it will come to you. Déjà vu can only spark a reminder that a moment is a significant hinge on your timeline…you'll get that sense that you need to pay attention and not miss the moment," the river dolphin supplied. Then it looked as if it were about to dive back down, before turning back to Adrien. "Oh, and Cat Weilder…trust the snake…especially when the time comes that you loose that girl you care about…don't try to turn back time to go back for her…it needs to turn out that way."

"What do you mean loose her?! What is going to happen to Ladybug?! By snake…do you mean Viperion? How can I stop it?!" Adrien called out after the pink tail as it swam swiftly nearly out of earshot.

"No…not the Ladybug…lose the other girl..but what is the use dwelling on fate?! There's no way you can stop it! The time is almost here!" the Dolphin shouted back without slowing his pace."You'll understand when the time is right!"

Adrien clenched his hands when he lost sight of the rose dolphin that had brought him no reassurance, but only more looming dread.

"Do you know what I should do?" Adrien turned to Plagg.

"In times of uncertainty and distress you need your Chamenbet to centre you," Plagg said seriously.

Adrien scoffed at the greedy cat Kwami, "you can't even diverge from your one track "cheese" thinking for a second to help me out?!"

"I wasn't talking about literal Chamenbet," Plagg rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "Marinette is your Chamenbet," Plagg huffed exasperatedly. "Why are you wandering around alone, when you know that she is the one that can help you sort things out?!"

Adrien opened his mouth about to counter, but he closed it again, and turned his eyes toward the city, where the lights of the festival glowed warmly over the trees. "You're right! Let's go Plagg! Ladybug is probabally wondering where we have disappeared to! Plagg, Claws Out!"

Chat Noir's was halfway back to the stadium, when he caught sight of Ladybug coming his way. When she came close enough, he could see that she seemed distracted.

"Ladybug!" he called out to her as she was about to swing right by in the dark,

"Chat! I was getting worried! Are you okay?" she hung onto the string of her yoyo, making her way over to him.

"Just stretching my legs," Chat Noir brushed off the concern.

Ladybug clearly didn't buy the casual act…plus she was still on edge after everything that had happened that day. "Chat, it's okay not to be okay around me, remember? You don't have to be so perfect all the time," she wove her arm around his.

Chat Noir blinked back at her, and breathed inward sharply. The word "perfect" resonated like a gong in his head. The moon outlining her face was so familiar…a flashback to the déjàvo moments that had been revealed to him! This was it! A turning point! A hinge in their timeline!

"What?!" she asked self consciously, trying to fix her stray hairs, and tucking them behind her ear.

"A wild kwami came to see me tonight…" Chat Noir spilled the news.

"One sought you out?! What happened? What did it want?" Ladybug asked in surprise.

"I think it wanted to warn me about what is coming…but also help us with a road map to lead us along the way…I wasn't sure what to tell you…but seeing you like this right now…well…it was part of the foreshadowing of the River Dolphin kwami. I think you are meant to know!"

"Know what?!" Ladybug asked in continued surprise.

"That I've always been destined to lose the ones I love," Chat Noir said quietly, with his voice breaking with emotion.

"No! That's not true! I'm not going anywhere!" Ladybug cried out, gripping Chat Noir's arm.

"Mi'Lady…what if that kwami is right and no matter what, there is going to come a time where I can't save you?!"

"With everything that has happened since I discovered a miraculous in my room all those years ago, I just can't believe that destiny doesn't have other options for us!" Ladybug declared passionately, taking his face in her hands. "Exactly what did he tell you?!"

"He basically said to "trust in 'the snake' when the time came to loose the girl I cared about!"Chat Noir's voice trembled. "He said I couldn't stop it…that it needed to happen," Chat Noir looked down and his shoulders shook.

"Maybe Bunnix…." Ladybug tried to say, but Chat Noir shook his head.

"Apparently, this was a message from Bunnix…I can't bare it! You know I would do anything to save you!" Chat Noir looked back up into her blue eyes.

"Even if it takes 25913 tries, I know we'll make it together," Ladybug gave him an encouraging smile, remembering how Adrien within Aspic's costume had brought her back again and again. "I mean we're bound to make it eventually right?!" She playfully punched his shoulder.

"You forget that even after all those attempts I failed. I just couldn't save you," Adrien shuttered remembering Desperada taking her right before his eyes over and over.

"Yeah, but also we're not alone in this," Ladybug encouraged. "We've got some pretty super-powered friends to back us up!"

"Yeah…" Chat Noir said distantly, faking a smile for her.

Suddenly a ball of flame flew up to them (which of course was a very flustered Phoenix). "Where have you two been?!" Ember demanded.

At the look between them, Ember didn't press to actually get an answer out of them. Instead he just ruffled his feathers so Sparks spit out the ends, and rushed on. "Nethermind, I've found you now! Let's get moving to Rio."

"I thought we had time!" Ladybug said startled.

"We have less time than I thought…the guardians of the trials just sent word… There has been an attack in Rio tonight!"

"An attack by who?!" Char Noir narrowed his eyes with determination.

"A creature we had hoped would stay in the depths. Apparently she has been summoned after all," Ember spoke tensely. "We fear that the wild mosquito-shape shifter kwami is behind this!"

"Is it because he knows we are here?" Ladybug suddenly asked, her eyes widening.

Ember stared back into her eyes, his dark coal-like eyes unblinking. "I believe that is the very reason…he surely means to prevent you from finishing the trials."

Ladybug flipped open the glasses from her yoyo, and set them on the bridge of her nose, clenching her fists at her sides, summoning Kaalki. Then she called out "voyage!"

"Wait Mi'Lady!" Chat Noir lunged forward and grabbed her wrist before she could spin the portal. "This has got to be a trap!"

"Without a doubt," Ladybug agreed, but spun the portal anyway. "The kwami of chaos is attacking innocent people trying to get to us…he is there right now because of us! We can't run away from this!"

"It's moments like this that I realize how much I love you!" Chat Noir put his hand in hers, and together they leaped through the gateway to Rio.

I have been away from sharing my story for so long, but if you are still following me on this journey don't worry, I haven't abandoned it and we are headed toward some major moments for our two heroes. This chapter contains some hints to future chapters I've been working on. I will plan to post again soon!
