It was a chilly Tuesday morning, and I was fully awake even before six. I was so excited and at the same time terrified.
Since the practice was in the morning, thirty minutes after breakfast, I decided to put the trousers and shirt on, just in case I don't have time to change.
I was practically shaking when I sat down on my usual chair between Draco and Blaise.
They both looked me up and down, not really knowing why I was dressed like this.
"Why aren't you in the uniform?" Blaise spoke up.
"I was thinking of joining our Quidditch team," I said proudly. Even if I was scared of what they would do.
Blaise spilled his drink and Draco choked on his food.
"What?" I asked when even Pansy looked at me with an eyebrow raised.
"You do know that you stand no chance!" Pansy said with a full smirk on her face.
"And how would you know that?" I looked at her. "I've never seen you near the Quidditch field, like ever." Now it was my time to smirk at her.
She opened and closed her mouth like a fish.
"There is an unwritten rule," Draco said in a bit of a softer voice than expected. "Girls aren't the right fit for Quidditch," He finished eating his bread and looked at me.
"Well, let's break that rule!" I smiled at both of them.
"Then if you say so!" Blaise threw a hand on my shoulder. "Then I'm crossing fingers for you to succeed!"
I smiled, happy that Blaise was accepting me.
Draco scoffed as he stood up and left.
I watched his back until he disappeared behind the doors.
'What has gotten into him? Maybe he doesn't want to play Quidditch with me?'
The time for tryouts came, and I slowly went towards the field.
Almost everyone gathered up, and when I showed up, the captain looked at me as if he was looking at some kind of doll.
"Sorry sweetheart but you are in the wrong place. We have tryouts and..." He stopped for a second to smirk, he probably noticed the way I was dressed and decided to mock me "This is no place for little girls." Now everyone was laughing at me.
"Oh, don't worry about me!" I said as sweetly as I could manage without showing any type of furry. "I am in the right place!" I smiled.
"Sure, but don't go around crying when you get hurt!" He smirked, getting closer to my face.
I grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him so that my mouth was close to his ear.
"You would surely like to see that, wouldn't you!" I smirked but on the inside, I was terrified. He was much older and taller than me, he could easily push me away. "What a shame!" I tried to keep my cool. I let go of his shirt only to see his eyes fully opened.
'This is way easier than I thought.'
~Draco's POV~
I was standing in the middle of the Quidditch field, waiting for tryouts to start. I didn't participate in this since I finished my tryout weeks ago. So now my only task was to see who would be our newest members, and I was extremely bored.
When Esther showed up behind the corner I lost my focus on whatever had happened. 'I can't believe that she actually showed up!', I thought.
Flint saw her and he put on his best smile. 'His smile was rather disgusting. How someone's teeth could be so bad?'
"Sorry sweetheart but you are in the wrong place. We have tryouts and..." He turned towards us smirking. 'He is so going to humiliate her. What was she thinking?' "This is no place for little girls." Everyone started laughing but she didn't even move.
Esther stood there proudly waiting for everyone to finish. She didn't give a damn of what had been told to her.
"Oh don't worry!" She said in a tone that she used only when she talks with my father. "I am in the right place."
'I was wrong, Flint is the one who is fucked up.' I mused to myself.
"Sure, but don't go around crying when you get hurt!" He gets closer to her face, basically leaning in. And I suddenly had a crazy urge to punch him, and I don't know why.
Esther then grabbed him by his shirt, and basically pulling him down to her height.
She whispered something into his ear and his face drained its color. He was speechless. Even I was speechless. I didn't expect her to pull something like this.
And few seconds later she was on the field and kicking everyone's asses.
~Third person POV~
Esther was tossing and turning on her broom as if it was nothing. Flint and other players tried so desperately to knock her off of her broom, but it was pointless. She was way too small compared to them, and because of that she was extremely fast.
~Esther (Christine)'s POV~
I was in midair, and I was closely looking at bludgers, and somehow luck was on my side since I managed to escape them all.
Now it was time for me to show my chaser abilities because that was the place I was aiming for.
I caught the quaffle and I was at full speed so I could escape Flint's best beaters. I was close to the loop when something hard hit me and it made me drop the quaffle. It was Flint who hit me with his beater's bat, and it fucking hurt.
I knew that if I made even the slightest mistake they won't let me be on the team, so I gave my all to catch this stupid quaffle.
I ducked and now I was flying at top speed towards the ground, and I managed to catch it at the last second.
I speeded up towards the loop and threw it just in time so the keeper couldn't save it.
When I scored I turned towards Flint just to see his defeated face.
"That was unexpectedly good." He bit his tongue. He just didn't want to admit that I was actually good at Quidditch. "But I can't allow you to be on my team."
"What!?" I thought that that was enough. "Why? There are just a few people who want this position." I was furious.
"Sorry, darling but no matter how good you are they are better!" He smirked.
'Better!? They are better!? They couldn't even hold a broom properly!'
"Really? I am not so sure!" I said, lifting an eyebrow.
"She is right!" Draco said suddenly and made me jump a little.
Flint scoffed...Draco made him angry in a second, but he didn't say anything to him. He probably was afraid of Draco' s father. I mean who wouldn't be.
"Fine, you are better," he said, rolling his eyes. It was kind of interesting to watch "But I can't risk my team victory just because of a girl, no matter how good she is!" he said making it sound as he was sorry. But he definitely wasn't sorry he, in fact, was full of joy.
I was speechless. These stupid gits. They always think that they are better than everyone.
This was my dream since I first saw a Quidditch game five years ago, and if they think that this is going to stop me then they are crazy. I am gonna show them what it looks like when I am angry. And that is not pretty at all.
I opened my mouth to say something, but I was cut off by something unexpected.
"Now, now Mr. Flint, don't make rushed decisions." My dad said in his usual calm tone.
'I can't believe that he is here. He never liked Quidditch but now he is here helping me to make in the team.'
"But Professor Snape, she is a girl!" Flint said trying to defend himself. But that was probably his worst mistake because talking back to my dad never ends well.
"I am well aware of that. But that girl just showed skills that none of you have. Am I right?" He looked at Flint with murderous glare and then he looked at me and winked. Surprisingly no one noticed probably because everyone was scared." So what are you going to do with Miss Moore, over here? "
"I will put her on the team." Flint said trough teeth.
"Practice next Tuesday at six am. I don't care if someone is late, we will start without them." He said when he gave uniforms to new members, which now included me.
When everyone disappeared behind the door of the changing rooms I turned towards my dad grinning like crazy.
"Thank you so much!" I tried to restrain myself from raising my voice because I was scared that someone will hear me. "You are the best dad in the world. I want to hug you right now, so much!" I smiled like crazy.
He cracked a smile and patted my head. "I hardly did anything. It just took a little convincing, the rest was you."
I smiled at him even more and his face softened.
I need to find that picture of the two of us. I don't know what to hurt him more than he already is. I know that he don't like the idea of me playing Quidditch but he helped me anyway. It is my turn now.
Later that day I started my research of that boy who took our picture. It wasn't that hard to find him, He was literally glued to Potter.
My rage constantly rised but I tried not to say or do anything that would gets someone's attention. So I focused on Hermione and how would I ask her about the him.
It was lunch and I decided to use the opportunity, and ask her since she was for the first time alone.
I stood up from my table and went towards her. Few people close to me sand me some questioning looks, but nothing could compare to the looks of both Slytherins and Gryfindors when I sat down beside Hermione.
"Esther!?... What are you doing!?" Her look was the same as others.
"I just need to ask you something." She nodded so I proceeded with my questioning.
"Who is the boy that always clings to Potter?" I said in a serious tone.
"You think of the one who carries an camera all the time?" She asked still slightly confused.
"Yes!"
"Colin. Why?"
"Nothing important. He just have something that is mine!" I leaned a little on the side so I could see him properly. He was holding that thing with our picture and all I whish for was to break it in million pieces.
"I don't know what he done, but please don't hurt him" She paused for a moment "He is muggleborn like me and he is still new to this world, and...!" She just couldn't stop talking so I put my hand on her shoulder to calm her down.
"Don't worry. I don't wish to hurt him. I just need to retrieve something very important to me."
"Can I know what is that?" Hermione was curious and that wasn't good. If something catches her attention then you are doomed.
She will do anything to find the truth.
"Sorry, but that is a little bit personal." I winked at her making sure that she won't get mad, and after that, I went back to my table.
And then hundreds of questions erupted.
" I needed to ask Hermione something, it is not a big deal." I tried to convince my three best friends, but they weren't buying it.
"You sat down at none other then at Gryffindor's table, and talked with that, that... in front of everyone!" If Draco could stab me with something he would do it right away.
"She has a name, and it is Hermione, not that!" I claimed not really carrying what he would say.
"Okay, but really aren't we enough?" He sounded as if he was hurt, and I really don't know why. "I mean she came from muggles, she is not a true wizard!" Again Draco started talking about blood types and that pisses me off. Seriously can't he just for once say what he really thinks.
"So what?"
"They are not worthy!" Pansy added and I snapped.
"Oh really! And you are supposed to be worthy!" I looked at Pansy. My voice was calm and I think that was the thing that angered.
"Of course! I am a Pureblood!"
"Yes, you are, but your magic is nothing compared to hers." I smirked.
"I agree with that one." Blaise who was quiet until now, said and everyone turned towards him.
"Actually, I can't deny that, either!" Draco said and I was left speechless.
'Did he just agreed with me? Well, that's new!'
Pansy scoffed and stood up and left. Her face was red as a tomato.
'Hell is about to start!' I thought to myself while finishing my lunch.
