Chapter 11
Kiara brushed her hair getting ready for another day of school, she let out a yawn.
" I managed to get some sleep...I never thought that dinner party would take that long." She muttered. 'But even in that party I couldn't stop thinking about what happened two weeks ago.'
Kiara looked in the mirror, she raised her hand lightly touching her shoulder the area that Seto gently applied the patch and smiled softly. 'Deep down Seto does care even if he doesn't show it as much.' She thought. 'He's still someone special to me.'
Thirty minutes later….
'Well...time for another day of school!' Kiara thought happily the door of the passenger seat opened, She got out seeing her friends walking inside the building.
"Miss,Will you be out with your friends today?" he asked
"Yes, Yugi mentioned a new place." Kiara replied "I'll be walking with them today."
"Alright, Anything just call." He said with a tilt of his hat.
"Bye !" Kiara said
"Have a nice day Miss." He said getting inside of the car.
As soon as he left Kiara walked towards the school gates. 'I wonder what games Yugi brought today.' Kiara thought.
As usual the school day went by fast.
The bell rang as a sign of the school day ending.
"Let's go to the newly opened Burger World." Yugi said
Joey looked at me and asked "How does that sound Kiara?"
"Yeah! I'm up for anything." Kiara said smiling. 'I haven't had a burger from an actual fast food place in a long time.'
"I heard their hamburgers are famous for how delicious they are!" Yugi said excitingly.
"Wait a minute you guys!" They heard turning their head at Tristan.
Joey looked at him slyly "The one who failed to become first-year student president, instead becoming a janitor, Tristan."
With a visible eye twitch Tristan corrected Joey "Not janitor, Beautification club! You know stopping on the way home is against school rules!"
Miho suddenly popped in "I want to check out Burger World!"
"Let's go!" Quickly changing his mind Tristan agreed.
"Hey you..." Joey said irritatingly. "Tristan..."
"Hold on, everyone..." They heard it was Téa, she was looking a bit nervous.
"Did you say Burger World?" Téa asked
An Excited Yugi and Kiara asked "Téa, want to go too?"
Téa suddenly blurted out "Don't go! I heard the restaurant's food was terrible!" Looking at their disbelieving faces she urged "It's true! I heard people became sick on the grand opening day! You definitely should not go!". Hurriedly changing the subject she added "Anyway, didn't the teacher say that a criminal broke out of prison?"
Yugi's eyes opened wide as he exclaimed "Ah, that's right! A big Criminal! The whole town is in a panic!"
" What the heck? You're scared? You've got no guts." Joey said
"But I heard he has a gun..." Yugi timidly said
"That's not good…"Kiara said 'We should be careful..although the chances of meeting an actual criminal is very low.' She thought.
The small group noticed Téa make her way out of the room.
" Yugi, hasn't Téa been acting weird lately?" Joey whispered seeing Téa walk alone in the hallway.
"Now that you mention it she hasn't been walking home with us in a while..." Yugi spoke up and tilted his head in Téa's direction.
"Hm...maybe she's busy with other things." Kiara spoke up. "It's normal."
"Could it be, Téa...is doing 'Dating for pay'? " Joey spoke up.
Yugi's face went red while Tristan pops in the conversation.
"What are you talking about?! You know Téa would never do anything like that!" Tristan exclaimed.
"That's right Téa would never do that!" Yugi argues back.
Joey grinned. "Oh now you guys are getting all serious ! You guys are funny." He said teasing his friends.
Kiara and Miho overheard them, both girls had worried looks.
'Téa isn't the type...but it might end up like that detective show….a girl got taken advantage off because a stalker followed her to school because of that type of job.. ' Kiara tightened her fist. 'If Téa needed help she could've told us! I won't let anyone take advantage of her!'
'Could Téa really be offering herself?' Miho thought in a very worried state.
Kiara and Miho followed Téa. 'Whatever happens we're here for you Téa.' Kiara thought on a mission. Then she saw Téa going in a burger place, Kiara let out a sigh. 'I guess i was over reacting.' She thought. ' I can go home now without a worry.'
Next day/End of School
Joey was talking about a game that was fun until he got killed in a tough level, inviting his friends to the arcade to play that game until Téa told Miho that they got somewhere to be and Kiara offered to go with them, which they accepted. After they were out of an earshot.
"So Miho and Kiara became her fellow 'date for hire'? What a horrible world it is becoming." Joey said
"You bastard! Miho wouldn't do that! Take it back! Or else I will cut your guts out of here!" Tristan exclaimed
"Yeah! Kiara and Téa wouldn't do that!" Yugi defended trying to hide a light blush on his cheeks.
"You guys are naive. Didn't you know? Which lunch Téa bought today?" Joey said "It's the top level stamina bento! Can you believe it?! The Stami-ben that we've never eaten once before! In other words, she must have money!"
'Would Miho actually do that for money? I mean she does seem to go after handsome rich guys…' Tristan then shook that thought away 'I can't compare to some rich old guy, i'm just a highschool student...man what's going on?!'
"Why would Kiara even do that? She already has a job at her parents makeup company." Yugi countered.
"Yugi, you're so naive." Joey said, glancing away. "She's probably doing this to annoy her parents."
"Kiara isn't the type of person to do that!" Yugi exclaimed trying to defend his friend.
Next Day/End of School
'It's finally over! so i'm free to have fun.' Kiara thought 'Téa, Miho and Tristan will be busy today hanging out. So maybe i'll hang out with Joey and Yugi for a little while.'
Kiara met up with Yugi and Joey inside the classroom, out came Tristan and Miho walking together with Téa in the middle of the two.
"Hey guys." Kiara said "Wanna go somewhere?"
"You don't have any plans today?" Joey asked, raising a curious eyebrow at her.
"No, I'm free today. Why?" Kiara asked
"It's just….well…." Yugi paused lightly blushing, he pushed down his fear and asked her. "Are you...seeing someone?"
"Huh?" Kiara said "Seeing someone? No why?"
"It's just you were acting strange.." Yugi said
"I was busy, I had to go to one of the labs testing some formulas and colors." Kiara said in a low voice to Yugi. "You know I've been helping out my parents in the new makeup for the summer collection."
"That's why!" Yugi said with a sigh of relief.
"I walk with Téa and Miho after school since they take the same route." Kiara explained she looked at Joey who glanced at the hallway seeing their other friends by the shoe lockers. "After that i don't know what they do, i've been preoccupied since a few days ago someone attempted to break into one of my warehouses to steal my newest product."
"Really?! Did they take anything?" Yugi asked
"Luckily the culprit failed and the police are still looking into it." Kiara said
"Yugi those guys are acting strange!" Joey said uninterested at what Kiara had said, glanced at his other friends leaving.
"If you guys think that they're up to something why not follow them?" Kiara spoke up.
Joey looked at Kiara with a large grin. "Great idea! Operation trailing is a go!" Joey said
"We should go with him." Kiara said Yugi nodded as they left.
After following them at the corner to a busy street and nearly getting caught by Téa at this store they finally made their way to the place that made Tristan, Miho, and Téa act so strangely.
Burger World.
"Burger World!" Joey cried out.
"Why?!" Yugi cried out in wonder.
"That's where they've been going to?!" Kiara exclaimed
The trio took a few steps inside.
"Welcome~!" A chorus of familiar voices cried, Kiara, Joey and Yugi stared in shock.
Tristan, Miho and Téa were poised in a welcoming manner, their faces all paled simultaneously as Kiara, Joey and Yugi stared. Kiara looked at their clothing, recognizing them as work uniforms. "That's why you guys were sneaking around." Kiara blurted out.
"Téa?!" Yugi cried as their friends turned around.
"What are you doing here?!" Joey shouted.
"Guys just say something...please?" Kiara added.
Tristan answered with a nervous expression. "Can't you see?" He stated, holding his fist like some kind of hero. "All three of us are sweating beautifully with our work…it's a part-time job!"
"But isn't it against the rules to work part time without the school's permission?" Kiara pointed it out.
"Acting all high and mighty…" Joey began, only to get cut off by Tristan.
"Don't speak of it Joey!" Tristan cried, as if every word pained him. "Of course I was troubled! I labored over the idea for days but…"
Kiara raised a curious eyebrow. 'He should sign up for the drama club instead.' She thought.
"Miho wanted so many things…" Miho murmured, her lip trembling. Kiara let out a sigh at this completely ridiculous scene they were making.
Kiara looked to Téa, only to see that her entire frame was trembling, Téa's hands curled into fists.
'Is she angry that we found out?' Kiara thought frowning before she could go and asked Téa, the manager walked in, noticing that they were holding up the door. The manager wore the same uniform as Tristan, the manager had a chiseled jawline, sharp eyes and deep auburn hair.
When they were finally brought to their seats Kiara sat near the window next to Joey sitting opposite of Yugi.
Kiara looked around and she didn't know why she felt someone was staring at her. Joey looked bored, while Yugi looked a bit nervous.
"H-hey, Joey, Kiara. I think coming here embarrassed them. Téa seems mad..." Joey just scoffed and said "Serves her right. Their fault for keeping this secret." Kiara glared at him.
She turned and smiled gently at Yugi "Don't worry Yugi. She's probably stressed. I'm sure she'll cool down and when she's ready she'll tell us."
Yugi returned the smile and then went off to his own world.
Then Kiara looked out the window. There She saw a man running around as if he's looking for someone. Kiara felt her phone vibrate and she picked it up reading the message.
'Hi Kiara! Are you free tomorrow? If you are, want to come over and play video games with me?' Mokuba
Kiara smiled and typed her reply.
'Hi Mokuba, yeah i'm free tomorrow after school so let's hang out. Can't wait.' Kiara
After a while Téa came in with their burgers.
She set them roughly on the table saying "Thank for waiting!" Looking very angry and scary she said "At this restaurant, let me put plenty of ketchup on your burger." Which she spelled out beautifully on the burgers "I won't forgive you if you blab". Kiara started to smile awkwardly feeling a bit scared.
Joey called out to Téa and that's when she said without looking back "Well, now that you know my job, I won't have to keep this hidden anymore." Turning her head to look at the trioshe explained "I'm saving money, when I graduate I'm going to America."
"America?" Joey, Kiara and Yugi asked simultaneously.
" I'm going to study dance in New York. You better not laugh." Téa said
With a goofy smile Yugi promised "I won't laugh! Right, Joey, Kiara."
"Yeah! Relax, Téa. We're not going to blab" Kiara said "Studying dancing, that's great!"
"Yeah Téa, you shouldn't have worried in the first place. If I do blab, I'll buy you 10,000 of these you know...how can this shop sell nothing but ketchup? What a cruel shop" Joey finished.
Walking away Téa waved back "Relax it's on me."
Kiara couldn't help but smile. "See Yugi, I told you she'd be fine."Taking a bite into her burger she smiled.
"Yum!" Kiara happily said
After a few minutes Kiara looked ahead to see the man she saw from the window was talking to the manager and Téa.
Mokuba smiled brightly at Kiara's text message. He began to walk towards the door to his brother's office to inform him of their friend coming over tomorrow. However he couldn't stop thinking about something.
Deep down He was worried about Seto. He wants his older brother to get out more and enjoy life not stay inside his office. The few moments that he saw Seto enjoy himself even for a little while it was with Kiara.
So Mokuba decided to put a plan of action for his older brother to have more fun maybe even end up dating Kiara.
Mokuba grinned at the thought, he hoped that his older brother would let someone else slowly melt cold heart."I just know that you two are right for each other, She already puts up with your cranky attitude." Mokuba replied giggling. 'I'll start setting things up when she arrives!'
Yugi and Miho watched when everyone else was pretending to find toy cars that were scattered around the restaurant. To find the criminal that's hiding in the restaurant. The only clue was that the criminal has a bruise on his leg.
"My heart's pounding just watching" Miho said worriedly.
"Wow...everyone's so brave." Yugi said admiringly.
A few minutes later Téa told an older customer to get his feet off the table. "What are you doing you bitch!" He yelled out.
The Manager apologized "S-sorry Sir we have a situation."
Still angry He complained "Don't give me that! Messing with a man's resting time, what are you thinking?!"
The Detective flashed his badge to him to show that the situation involved the police. Since he couldn't hide the problem anymore the Detective apologized then explained that there was a chance that an escaped convict in the shop and that they were gonna have to check their legs.
While all the other customers were complaining, Joey asked the Detective if there was any other clue about the culprit. Taking out his pocketbook the Detective said "Yeah...in prison he was once admitted to the hospital. He had an allergic reaction to eating eggs."
"An egg allergy?" Kiara repeated
" Oh if that's true..." Téa said with a sly look on her face loud enough for anyone to hear. "If the culprit is here, we'll know right away. Because our hamburger buns have plenty of egg in them."
'If he is here that should do the trick.' Kiara thought
Soon enough, because the criminal known as Tetsu in disguise thought there really was egg in the buns, Tetsu soon was uncovered and arrested yelling out. "FIRST CALL AN AMBULANCE! PLEASE HURRY AND CALL AN AMBULANCE! I'M EXTREMELY WEAK AGAINST EGGS!" He panicked
With a triumphant smile Téa said "Fool, it was a lie. Our burger is one hundred percent wheat flour."
"It shows that you were careless for falling for a lie like that. " Kiara said matter of factly."If you ate here a lot of times you would've noticed your body reacting to something in the food."
Tetsu struggled against the detective and soon uncovered the manager as Yellow Spider Jirou, the second escaped convict. Jirou swiftly took the gun and took the nearest person as a hostage. Soon enough he took Kiara as a hostage.
"If you move she's dead!" Jirou shouted holding the gun to her head.
Kiara trembled in fear and shock that this is happening to her and her friends being dragged into it.
"I changed my face with surgery and blended into this town. Tetsu the Hedgehog, I'd never thought you'd come to this restaurant. Even in disguise, I could recognize you in a glance. I was able to tell what places you were going to rob. I'm different from before." After a moment Jirou admitted "I was the one who robbed Ushijima bank and stole the jewels!"
'Try to stay calm...stay calm..'Kiara said to herself, her body still shaking.
"Everyone get down" he ordered.
"Kiara." Yugi whispered worriedly as he and the others got down to the floor.
Jirou sat down on one of the empty seats as he gripped Kiara's arm dragging her down to seat next to him still pointing the gun to her.
"So, someone bring me what I demand. " He made eye contact with Yugi and said
"You, the gutless looking kid, you do it." Jirou ordered
'Yugi..'Kiara thought, staring at Yugi, still trembling at the man holding the gun.
"The rest of you close your eyes and don't move. Anyone that moves gets this.." Jirou said threateningly, putting his gun in the air and fired a shot. "First , bring alcohol and tobacco. I had to quit all my old hobbies. I had to quit drinking and smoking... however, now, in reverse I suddenly feel free!"
Quietly getting up, Yugi went to get what Jirou demanded.
Yugi brought Jirou his items and set it down on the table. Kiara then felt Jirou's hand on her shoulder.
"Trembling are we?" Jirou smirked. "We have time for a little extra fun."
"Kiara.." Yugi muttered softly.
"Hmm? Now Leave brat" Jirou said, pointing his gun at Yugi.
No sooner had Kiara shouted "Yugi! run!" Then she was slapped.
"Kiara!" Yugi shouted, horrified.
Without thinking Kiara said while holding her cheek. "You jerk!"
Jirou gripped his gun even harder until. He swung his gun hitting Kiara on the side of her forehead.
Kiara crouched down on impact with her hand on her now bleeding forehead. Jirou pointed the gun at her.
"You bitch..." Jirou said.
"Kiara!" Yugi shouted again. Then Yugi's Millennium Puzzle glowed and the spirit stood in place where Yugi stood. "Those who manhandle my precious Kiara will suffer."
'Wait...what did he just say?' Kiara looked at the other Yugi.
"However, I like letting chance decide that." 'Yugi' continued. Sitting down to the opposite of Jirou.
"Hey you, who said you can sit!" Jirou said angrily, not removing the pistol from Kiara.
Nonchalantly 'Yugi' said "What I just thought you'd want a game partner." Pointing at Jirou, 'Yugi' announced "It's game time."
"Oh, game? I guess I'm interested in it for a bit" Jirou stated as he put a cigarette in his mouth " In the past I used to gamble non-stop".
"However, it will be no ordinary game. It's the Yami no Game, a game where your life is at stake." Jirou happily agreed and asked what the rules are.
"Rule...just one. And that is, of these 10 fingers...all are not to move except for the one that you pick. We both choose our own. And only that finger can be used." Holding out his hands 'Yugi ' asked "So, which finger do you choose?"
"If that's the case, then of course it's the pointer finger. The finger used to pull the trigger." Jirou explained.
'Yugi' narrowed his eyes at Jirou. "Ok, then I choose this finger." he said holding out his Jirou pointed the pistol at 'Yugi' and started to pour the vodka in his glass.
"After the game starts, you can do as you like, even pull the trigger. So...let's go!
*Game Start*
Laughing triumphantly Jirou said "1 second and it's game over!"
Smiling calmly 'Yugi' brought out a lighter.
"That's right, it hasn't been lit yet" Jirou said, referring to his unlit cigarette. Slowly 'Yugi' made his way to the cigarette and lit it.
"The lighter...you can have it back."he said then placed it on the upper side of Jirou's hand, the hand pouring the vodka."I'll leave it there. The alcohol is Russian Senowolf. 90% is alcohol."
While Jirou was trying to figure out what to do 'Yugi' stood up and said "I'd like to see you fire the gun. The recoil would drop the lighter." Then taking Kiara's hand he said "Let's go Kiara, we need to treat that wound."
When they got a good distance away Kiara noticed that Jirou put down his gun and took off the lighter, 'Yugi' noticed too.
"I knew you wouldn't be able to obey the rules." he said with the symbol appearing on his forehead "The Yami no Game reveals the true nature of humans. For rule breakers, it's destined to be a punishment game." Angry Jirou picked up his gun and aimed it at 'Yugi'. "the Door of Darkness has opened"
Nothing could be done as the illusion of being burned alive infested in Jirou's mind
*Game Over*
'Yugi' handed Kiara a napkin and used it to wipe the blood off.
"Are you alright?" he asked quietly.
Kiara started fidgeting, feeling very grateful for the spirit of the puzzle's help. "I'll be okay, thank you for saving me." Kiara said He smiled while lightly touching a few strangs of her hair.
"Why is your hair color is so familiar to me?" He said softly.
"Kiara!" She heard someone say. Kiara turned around, it was Téa.
"You're okay! Thank goodness! The person who saved you? Is he here?" she asked.
Kiara turned to see Yugi behind her smiling at her.
"No he's gone..but i have a feeling i'll see him again soon. " Kiara said
*Next day*
"So you quit working?" Yugi asked.
"Yeah, if I keep working, I won't have time to spend with you Yugi." Téa explained cheerily.
Embarrassed Yugi said "Really?" and laughed it off.
"Guys come on, we're running late! Joey is waiting for us" Kiara told them. She had a bandage wrapped around her wound.
"Hey! You guys are late!" Joey shouted at the trio. They came up to a noodle shop.
"Look! Opening today is this beef noodle shop, I hear it's delicious." Joey explained.
"A bowl of ramen would hit the spot." Kiara said grinning.
Just as they were heading into the shop to check it out. The door opened to Miho and Tristan in matching uniforms. A cow printed shirt with a hat and red apron with the head of a cow painted on it.
"Y-you guys are still doing that?" Joey asked, almost shocked speechless.
"And let me guess...the school doesn't know about this." Kiara said
"But...but...I want new clothes." Miho explained. Tristan did the usual dramatic approach and said "I..I... will fall as far as needed, so long as I'm with Miho.'
Yugi, Joey, Téa and Kiara all sighed.
"Sorry guys I have somewhere else to be." Kiara said
"It's okay, go and rest up see you Monday." Joey said
"Bye Kiara." Yugi said
Kiara waved goodbye to her friends and had drive her.
"Where to Miss?" Her driver asked
Mokuba smiled having his game room set up. 'Everything is set up, games ready! Now hopefully it will all go according to plan!' Mokuba thought.
