A high-pitched ringing and blurred light was the first thing that Ladybug noticed when she came to. The next was Viperon's face.
She squinted her eyes staring at him. His mouth was moving, but his voice sounded like he was talking underwater and was muffled. His eyes stared into hers with concern, and she felt his arm around her pulling her to her feet. In a daze she looked over to see that Viperon's other arm supported Chat Noir, who was holding his head.
Viperon managed to drag Ladybug and Chat Noir out of sight. He helped Ladybug toss her lucky charm beach umbrella, restoring their hearing, and the venue around them. Viperon looked back and forth trying to find a different hiding spot for each of them, since they were now just barely hanging on to their last seconds before losing their transformation.
"Close your eyes! You're both about to transform in front of each other!" Viperon urged in concern.
Ladybug patted Viperon's arm. "It's okay. We know," she confided in him.
"You both know…" Viperon's eyebrows raised above his mask in surprise, and then he smiled softly at Ladybug. "I'm glad," he sighed. "I'm glad you finally know."
"Do you know?!" Ladybug and Chat Noir both asked in surprise.
Viperon considered using his second chance, just in case…but then he dropped his hand to his side, and plunged forward. "Yes," he nodded. "I never meant to find out, but in some timelines the truth came up sooner than it was meant to."
"And you've been protecting our secret all this time," Ladybug smiled affectionately at Viperon. Then she hugged him, just as their transformation dropped away. "I'm sorry I couldn't be the one to tell you," she whispered, and then stepped back, taking Adrien's hand.
"You've had to be the guardian of many things Marinette. The truth only made me realize how amazing my friends truly were," Viperon responded loyally, putting a hand on Adrien and Marinette's shoulders. Then he looked at their clasped hands, and smiled softly. "You've really found each other," he observed.
Adrien and Marinette smiled at each other.
"A inner melody is more powerful as a duet," Viperon said, and then said, "Sass, Scales Rest," dropping his own transformation.
Just then Jagged Stone's voice could be heard calling for Luka. He hurried by them, spotted his son, and ran to him throwing his arms around him. "Luka! I'm glad you're okay! I'm so sorry I lost my cool! Are you okay son?"
"Don't worry Dad, I'm just glad Ladybug and Chat Noir Noir were able to bring you back!" Luka exchanged a glance with Marinette and Adrien.
"And that awesome snake hero, Viperon, and the Chloe Bourgeois girl in her Bee outfit too!" Jagged Stone pumped his fist in the air. "I've been inspired to write a new song about the whole miraculous team! We can start on it this week…but first I need to have a word with that Bob Ross fellow. It has been a long time coming, but I think it is time to switch up my management team!" Then Jagged Stone looked up suddenly and exclaimed, "Marinette?! Adrien?! Luka didn't tell me you were coming all the way from Paris for the show!"
"Sorry, your final song got interrupted. It was really beautiful," Marinette replied looking around the stadium with its vacated seats.
"I will not have my concert for my fans end like that!" Jagged strung his guitar across his back and waved for the three of them to follow him. "Come! Let's give my fans a true encore!"
Penny ran up to a Jagged, with relief on her face. Right away Jagged took her aside and started making plans.
"So how are they going to find everyone and bring them back in here?" Adrien asked.
"Oh, they are not coming to me, we're going to them," Jagged announced and Penny rallied those of the stage hands and the band that had not fled, and gathered up equipment and instruments.
Marinette and Adrien got swept along and recruited with the rest of the band, and carted armloads of speakers to Jagged Stone's helicopter. They flew from the venue and looked down at the packed in homes and businesses that interlocked together. They didn't go far, and set down on Barra da Tijuca's expansive 11-mile stretch.
Unlike the other touristy beaches, this was one was more of a local favourite. People going about their average day, or just finishing up their grocery-run were not expecting one of the largest international rockstars to drop into their lives. With the efficiency of a NASCAR pit crew Jagged's stage hands had set up everything on the beach and had popped a microphone into Jagged's hand. With a crowd already curiously forming Jagged started to sing. On cue Luka, and the rest of the band started playing. The water at his back magnified the sound, and before long it seemed that the whole community had come together to experience the impromptu concert on the beach. Marinette recognized others who had evacuated after the acoma attack (like Alcuin, Carlos, and José) Throwing their hands up in the air. Marinette didn't spot Chloe or Komar though. This time when Jagged ended his set the only interruption to the end of his song 'Miraculous," was deafening applause from his fans.
Ooooo
With the applause still echoing in their ears, Jagged Stone finished off their last day in Brazil with an private encore that was not created by instruments or human voices, but of earth and water. Waving them in, Jagged Stone had them join him in a helicopter tour to witness the plunge of the Amazon River, fighting to get to the ocean. Their last glimpse of incredible Brazil was flying over a symphony of hundreds individual cascades diving down through the lush rainforest.
"This is incredible!" Marrinette called over the roar of the water that even overwhelmed the sound of the helicoper's blades.
"What a totally powerful song the water makes! Each time it collides with the rocks and obstacles in it's path it creates a melody! That's what I call a rockn' waterfall!" Jagged Stone called back from his seat up front next to their pilot.
Adrien smiled at Marinette, and squeezed her hand in his, looking out the helicopter windows at the overwhelming power of nature.
On her other side, Luka looked at Marinette. He wondered for a mere moment what might have happened if he had taken a different path…had a second chance. He smiled at the beautiful young woman he had grown to love and admire over the years, and looked out the other window. "Life is like a river," he said under his breath. "It isn't meant to flow backwards."
