Chapter Seven

Severus looked at the young woman who had become his friend over the course of several months.

Harry and Hermione had returned to the Shrieking Shack as quickly as they could after Voldemort had died. Worried that they would be too late. However, by some miracle Severus was still clinging to life. If by only a thread. He was too close to death to be apparated but using some healing potions they procured from Madame Pomfrey the two young adults were able to stabilize him enough to ensure that being transported on a stretcher would not result in his death.

His healing after that was slow and difficult. Even with magic it was a painful process and at first, he hated that Harry and Hermione had saved him. A feeling he did not keep hidden when they visited him. Eventually, though, with the help of a psychiatrist, who knew about the Wizarding world, he was able to come to terms with the fact that he lived. As well as, eventually, letting go of the anger he felt towards the two young adults.

After months of being stuck in the hospital wing, he was finally able to leave if he so desired. Which, he did, but he had no wish to return to his home in Spinners End. Though he did not have anywhere else to go, or so he thought. The day he was preparing to leave, Harry and Hermione came forward with a suggestion that he come live with them at Grimmauld Place.
