Holly's scream continued until she was unconscious. Then, as she became conscious she lifted her head and hit something hard. Something metal. She tried feeling around with her hand. Her hand still had her coffee cup in it, but all the coffee had spilled. She felt the sensation on her elbow, but it quickly vanished as her eyesight came back to normal.
"The wonderful SpaceWoman!" shouted someone familiar as she tried to roll out from where she was. The twenty-one year old's blonde hair swished as she finally was able to get out from underneath the contraption. She felt her head, groaning as she tried to get up. She set her coffee cup down and did a push-up, only to hit her back against the thing she hit a few moments ago.
"What the –"
"Holly? This is the earliest I've ever seen you, because you look like you've just come from our other world! How crazy is that?" says the familiar voice. Holly put two and two together and figured out it was Scarlett Lucas, her best friend. Scarlett was smiling, but then that smile faded as she saw Holly look around the TARDIS they were in.
"This isn't – No. It can't be," Holly says, looking around. Scarlett puts hands on Holly's shoulders, and it makes Holly kick her coffee cup. She gasps as she bends down to take it. She feels a pain in her head.
"H-How is this possible? She shouldn't have arrived like that," says another familiar voice, one she's heard from her iPod quite a few times.
"What?" Holly says, turning around to Scarlett who scratches her neck in embarrassment.
"Well I hoped I wouldn't get to this point," she says, "Holly, I think you'd better come with me before he comes to – yep. I knew it."
Scarlett leaps in front of Holly so that the Doctor couldn't detect her with his sonic screwdriver. She takes it from him and points it at the broken vortex manipulator she had on her wrist.
"Thanks, Doc. Needed that," she gives him a smile, but then frowns. "You're not allowed to sonic my best friend without permission, you hear?"
"Best friend? Wait a minute, who are you? How do you know how to use a sonic? That's impossible. You're not a friend of Leila, Nate, or Neil's, are you?"
"Yup! So they've come into your timeline before, right? So if I'm correct, they were there when you were or are with Rose?"
"Was," says the Doctor solemnly. Holly's even more confused than she was before. How did he know Leila and Nathaniel?
"Scarlett, how are you not flipping out right now? That's the Doctor! He's your hero. Your – everything?"
She didn't mean to make it sound like a question, but she wasn't exactly sure what to call him. Scarlett laughs.
"You'll understand why it's not like that when you're older," she says, then drags Holly along. "C'mon, Holls. I gotta show you something. It'll make things easier in the end."
"I'm sure it won't," Holly says, but when she finishes her sentence, it ends with a scream and they're sent into the time vortex.
Scarlett lands them in an unfamiliar place, where a familiar looking face is standing while doing a million things at once. He says hello to Scarlett before taking a good look at Holly.
"Holly?" says the eleventh Doctor, staring at her with bewilderment. Scarlett cringes.
"Yes, this is Holly, Doctor, but this is Holly when she arrives for the first time," she says, making him go up to her and point his finger at her.
"This is very dangerous, Scarlett Lucas. Do you know how much trouble you just got yourself into?"
"Well I sure do, but I know I won't find out that I've been here, because I've done this already. That's why I came here because I knew you weren't really, you know–"
He asked her about the vortex manipulator that was on her wrist. Scarlett says she doesn't remember how she got it. Holly is even more confused.
"So I guess that's why Nathaniel gave me the journal that looks new?" says the Doctor. Scarlett nods.
"Did you write in it?"
"No," he says, giving her a look that's saying 'yes,' but Holly doesn't notice this as she is trying to wrap her head around everything that's going on. She also puts her hand on her head as she feels the same pain that she did just minutes ago. The Doctor races to help, putting his hands on her head to keep her steady.
"Ah, this is before... no. I am – Holly, I'm so sorry for what you're about to go through. Scarlett doesn't know this. She can't know."
Scarlett looks between the two, then rolls her eyes. The Doctor points and swirls his fingers at her. "What about your contraption that glows? I'm sure it doesn't like that you're here."
"I'm sure too, but I'm from the far future, Doctor. It doesn't really happen to me anymore. I just randomly showed up when Holly entered the TARDIS for the first time."
Scarlett gets the hint from the Doctor that she needed to leave, and quickly. Holly looks at the Doctor. "I'm not supposed to be here," she says. He nods.
"I know, and forgive me for what I'm about to do, because Scarlett's watching us right now —"
Gasping, Holly tries to get out of the Doctor's grip as he holds her head. He banged their heads together which made Holly's heart race. Everything was happening so fast. She breathes heavily as he tries to reach her mind.
Holly, can you hear me? He says without speaking out loud. She yelped.
"How did you do that?" She says out loud. He puts a finger to her lips.
You have to try and speak telepathically to me Holly. I have to have you get it right before you see past me.
Okay, she says in her mind, feeling weak as the minutes roll by. She studies his eyes as he stares back at her. What now?
Scarlett sends you to the wrong time, he says, his voice echoing in her mind. And I have to explain everything to you right now before you meet what you're going to meet.
Holly stays silent, even in her mind even though a million thoughts should be surging through now. He sees her try to nod against his forehead. She clears her throat as she listens to him.
You and Scarlett are what I call 'Infinite Friends,' he states. The same with Leila, Nathaniel, and Neil. Each of them go throughout our timeline, just like another person you will meet later on in your future, which is my past.
So they don't meet at the right time? Or do they go through the timeline together as a group? Holly thinks back.
No, he returns the thought, they don't. They go at completely different points in time. Sometimes they end up at the same points in time and catch up with each other. Sometimes one doesn't remember a certain meeting between the three — I mean the four of them, and then they try to talk about it in secret so they don't spoil what happens for the other. Get me?
Sort of. I'm going to have to think this through for a while, though. I process things a little slow, says Holly through their minds. The Doctor gives a smile.
"Take this book," he says, finally out loud, pulling a yellow journal out of his pocket. "Write in it," he adds. "You write your whole life in this book, got it?" Holly takes it as she is let go from the Doctor's grasp, and almost stumbles backwards. Scarlett catches Holly before she falls. The Doctor looks up to see the future Holly and the rest of them coming down the stairs. Past Holly doesn't see this.
"C'mon Holly," Scarlett says, reaching for her vortex manipulator. "I gave us some more time," she tells the Doctor. "They won't see this, because I remember not being able to see us vanish after this. Good luck, Doctor."
"Good luck," Holly whispers, "whatever you're doing."
"You'll find out later," he smiles and winks. Then, he steps into the box he and Holly were talking in front of him. She blushes and stares at him once more before vanishing with Scarlett. She didn't notice how terrible he looked until now. There had been blood on the side of his cheek that she didn't squirm about when she looked at him. Scarlett could tell Holly was thinking about him and his appearance, but Scarlett told Holly not to worry.
"Don't worry Holls. Everything will be okay with him. And you. You're there with him in the end, and now that you have your journal you can recall all your adventures."
"I don't understand, how was he able to do that?" She asks as she looks around to where Scarlett took them. It was in a kitchen that looked like it belonged in the TARDIS. Holly had never seen what it looked like because from what she saw, the show only showed the console. She was sad about that because she wanted to see more of it.
"Do what?"
"Talk to me in my mind. I could actually hear him speaking."
"Oh, it's a Time Lord — and Time Lady thing. You'll obviously get used to it."
"A what?!" says Holly. Suddenly, her chest starts to crush, and she starts to hyperventilate. Scarlett rushes to her to help calm her down.
"What's going on? Why can I feel two heart beats?"
"Holly Morgan," Scarlett says, making Holly even more nervous. "I don't know how to tell you this, but..."
"But what? Scarlett?"
"... is everything okay in here?" says a young black lady as she enters the kitchen. Holly doesn't recognize her, but Scarlett does.
"Oh, hi Martha! Sorry we're a bit preoccupied here, but — hey, Doctor! Oh, I forgot. This is the time before I regularly come into your life, isn't it? Holly, I'm so sorry about how you're feeling right now, but you're going to have to wait a while to figure out what's going on. I'm afraid my White Glow is taking me somewhere else for now. Everything will be fine."
Holly groans as Scarlett starts to disappear. The tenth Doctor reaches her before she passes out, and lands in his arms.
Bet you didn't see that coming, eh?
I hope you enjoyed this chapter as it's just getting started. I apologize that the next few chapters are just ONE episode. I didn't want to fit all of it in one long chapter because I know most people would be annoyed with that. I hope you enjoy!
Love,
Liv
