Holly Morgan looked around as she laid in a hospital bed, breathing heavily. There were curtains hanging on each side of her, and in front of her.

"So that was a dream, then? So I was just in a coma in a normal hospital room after I —"

She gasped as someone came through the curtain. It was a black woman who had a stethoscope ready to listen to the woman's heart beat and calm her down.

"The Doctor told me to get started on checking up on you," says the woman in a British accent. Holly frowned.

"So that wasn't a dream?" She asks the woman who she remembered as Martha from what Scarlett told her. Ugh. Scarlett, she thought. I'm going to kill her whenever I see her next time.

"Hm?" Says Holly as Martha Jones tried to explain what happened. Martha sighed.

"I was saying you passed out for over an hour or two. Not sure exactly how long, because time moves differently in the TARDIS. Now, I don't know who sent you here, but if they arrive again –"

"I'll kick her butt," says Holly, interrupting Martha. "I just wanted to know what was going on, and then that 'White Glow' thing happened, along with my chest pains. I felt two hearts – what's your name?"

"Martha," she says, "Martha Jones. You?"

"Holly. Holly Morgan," she says, "anyway, I felt two heart beats! That's insane, isn't it?"

Martha chuckled nervously. "You can say that again. You're not the only one with two hearts –"

Martha sees the look on Holly's face.

"Sorry," she apologizes, "but the Doctor also has two hearts. I'd also like to have a chat with him since he briefly explained that he saw you before he even met me."

"So you're one of his companions? But you're a doctor," Holly says, and cringes at her own joke, "no pun intended."

"I want to be one, one day. I think I want to stop traveling with the Doctor after a few more trips. It's getting kind of tiring."

"I understand. From what I saw, it's a lot."

"What d'ya mean, what you saw?" Martha asks her, confused. Holly shrugged it off.

"So it's kind of hard to explain, and I'm not sure if I should be telling you it, because I don't know how you'll react. I was just... Hey, do you have my journal by any chance?"

"Is everything okay here?" says the Doctor, checking up on them. He sees that Holly's awake.

"You're awake! I thought I heard voices. Didn't know if it was Martha talking to herself or not," he joked, Holly's heart – or hearts, started to race as he came in.

"Doctor," Martha frowned. "We were just chatting a bit before I properly checked up on her. She was saying how she felt two heart beats."

"No," says the Doctor, "That's not possible. She's not from Gallifrey. She shouldn't have two hearts."

"Want to take a look for yourself?"

He brings out his sonic, making Holly yelp. Martha puts her hand in front of the whirring sonic.

"If she doesn't want to be soniced, don't," Martha says. She turned to Holly, "I'll go find your journal."

Holly nods, then sighs as the Doctor comes closer. He looks at her as he asks her a question. "Why do you always jump when I pull out my sonic?"

Holly finally calmed down after the Doctor came to check up on her and after a few hours of sleep she met the Doctor and Martha in the console room. Her hearts fluttered when she saw the Time Lord standing there staring at her.

"When will we see Leila, Nate, or Scarlett?" Holly asks him, making all his thoughts disappear. Martha perks up.

"Do you know them too?" Martha says. "There's also Neil who you haven't mentioned. He's pretty cute, too."

"Yeah I do, except for Neil."

"They just pop in at any time. Particularly before we go on another adventure, but I'm guessing they aren't coming on this one, because one would show up right..."

A pause, and they waited for someone to show up. No one did.

"I guess they aren't coming today. Where would you like to go, Miss Morgan? I assume you know what this does?"

"Yes, but I don't actually know how to drive it."

"It... is a she, not an it," he points a finger at her. She blushes as Martha rolls her eyes at the Doctor.

"Okay, sorry," says Holly as he flips some switches. Holly questions him.

"Where are you taking us? I thought you said..."

"Cardiff! Sorry Holly, but we can go whenever and wherever you want after we make a quick stop here."

"Cardiff?" Martha repeats.

"Ah, but the thing about Cardiff, it's built on a rift in time and space, just like California and the San Andreas Fault, but the rift bleeds energy. Every now and then I need to open up the engines, soak up the energy and use it as fuel," says the Doctor.

"So you just remembered you needed to do that as I tried to pick a place for us to go?"

"You can spend more time trying to figure it out when we get there!" He says. "Only twenty seconds, that's all. The rift's been active."

The Doctor lands the TARDIS, and Holly looks at his computer monitor. "Hold on, who —"

"Wait a minute. They had an earthquake in Cardiff a couple of years ago. Was that you?" Martha interrupts Holly as she looks to see that the man on the Doctor's screen was Captain Jack Harkness. The man that Holly thought was hilarious AND cute.

She knew there was a show called Torchwood that starred this man, but obviously she never watched it. Scarlett never encouraged her either, and so she never watched it. She didn't want to, either.

"Bit of trouble with the Slitheen," the Doctor says. Then looks at Holly. "You saw it on your television show that Leila talks about, didn't you?"

Holly tries to remember, then nods. "Yes, I remember! Sorry you had to find out about that. My reaction wouldn't have been pretty if I knew I was part of a television show."

"Oh, it's alright. And by the way Martha, that was a long time ago. Lifetimes. I was a different man back then."

"Finito. All powered up," the Doctor says after flipping more switches. He looks back at the screen to see Jack closer to the TARDIS. Holly watches the Doctor look back and forth at Holly and at Martha as Jack hits the TARDIS with a BANG.

"Whoa!" Martha says as the TARDIS shakes. "What was that?"

"Geez. That was rough," Holly says, holding onto the console with one hand and the other onto the Doctor as he tells them what year the TARDIS was sending them into.

"We're accelerating into the future. The year one billion. Five billion. Five trillion. Fifty trillion? What? The year one hundred trillion? That's impossible!"

"You say everything is impossible," Holly says, "especially with my condition."

"And I'm going to figure that out! Someday," replies the Doctor.

"And why?" Martha says. "The year," she elaborated, "What happens then?"

"We're going to the end of the universe," says the Doctor.

The end of the universe? thinks Holly as the TARDIS shakes some more. She looks at Martha who looks scared, but not as scared as Holly was. Her hands start to sweat as she thinks about Scarlett, Leila, and Nate. And the other guy, Neil, even though she didn't meet him. They would know what was about to happen next. Why weren't they here? Holly needed them. She tuned out the conversation The Doctor and Martha had.

She wished they would just come to save them and it would all be over. But as the Doctor and Martha started to run outside the TARDIS after it landed, Holly knew her first adventure in the Doctor Who universe had already begun. And it wasn't a great start, either. It was a bad start.
