Author's Note: Lucky you guys, I don't know if I'll have internet tomorrow for a normal upload, so you guys are getting this chapter early! Also, I'll be playing a little fast and loose with Zelda's abilities, all kind of summed up as "sealing magic+". Enjoy!
III.
The Wild Breath of Fate
Obi-Wan Kenobi was back in a warzone. The stench and cries of battle filling his nostrils, it was a scene all too familiar to him, but somehow so very, very foreign. The air did not smell of ozone, as when blaster fire was exchanged, nor did he hear the familiar clank of battle droids, no, this battlefield was different, archaic almost. Humans, or near humans at least, fought with sword and bow, striking at… well he wasn't quite sure, three or four alien species Obi-wan had never seen before. Where am I?! No matter, I'll just ready myself in case anyone tries to make for me. Looking to his belt he realized something else was off, Blast it all! My lightsaber was right next to my bed, but I suppose if I was still in my bed, I wouldn't be in this mess now would I. Stroking his beard, Obi-Wan took stock of the situation. This appears to be some sort of invasion, or perhaps even a civil war of sorts; I am clearly no longer on Tatooine, it's too green here; I am without my lightsaber, and… the Force! Obi-Wan Shuddered, I can't seem to feel it, or at least not as strongly as I should be able to. Reaching out with all his might he could just barely feel the edges of the life-binding energy. Wherever Obi-Wan was, it was more foreign to him than any planet in the Republic… or Empire.
Just then he heard a piercing shout in the distance "Aiyyaaaa!" Squinting, he could just see a figure topple one of the larger, horse-like aliens, just as two more near identical ones burst from the tree line. Obi-Wan could tell this figure was a seasoned fighter, he moved with determination across the battlefield… and all but ignored the closest alien instead darting for the far one… the far one that was barreling straight towards a woman, one clearly not dressed for such a battle. She must have been an innocent caught in the crossfire of these two, that warrior won't make it to her in time, I have to help, I have to try at least. Sprinting, Obi-Wan picked up sword from a fallen warrior, it's no lightsaber but it'll have to do. Obi-Wan was gaining ground but feared he too would not be fast enough to keep this woman from being impaled, reaching out with the last of his winded breath he shouted "Miss, RUN!". It was as he feared, neither he nor the other warrior would make it to her in time, he had failed yet another innocent. Just as his hand dropped in defeat, he saw her move, spinning, hands out and to the alien's side, in a moment the creature was sent flying into a mob of what Obi-Wan assumed was its, now former, comrades. Did she use the force? No, certainly not, I can barely draw enough in this place, wherever here is, but still… curious. I must speak with her after all of this is over.
Obi-Wan slowed, this innocent's immediate danger had been averted, but the other warrior was still sprinting in their direction. Darting past the woman, the warrior lunged at Obi-Wan. Had multiple duels with Count Dooku not better prepared him Obi-Wan would have been skewered by this warrior… this young warrior. Barely over nineteen and already an attack dog in someone else's war, typical it seems throughout the galaxy. As it was, he had just enough time to deflect the blade before another flurry was unleashed at him. Dodging a parrying as best he could, Obi-Wan was forced to fall back on his defensive training, even if he wanted to do more, all he could do was defend himself from the tenacity of his much younger foe. For one not trained as a Jedi this young warrior had tremendous stamina and fighting prowess, impressive, most impressive.
"LINK!" The woman shouted at the man that had flown by her to engage the only man on the battlefield that was able to alert her to the fate that nearly befell her. "Link, stop this at once, that man saved my life!"
Link halted mid-swing, the tang of his blade awkwardly striking this new face's blade. He turned to Zelda, fury melting to relief as he was able to accept that she was safe and unharmed. He put back on a stern face before returning to the newcomer. "Who ARE you, stranger." Link could sign nearly as fast as he thought, especially with adrenaline moving through him like it was, but for once the speed of his signing did not seem to be the problem. "Well answer me!"
"I'm terribly sorry but I don't understand what you're trying to say, if you're trying to say anything at all. But I will say this, I mean you no harm" Obi-Wan, not relinquishing his blade, raised it loosely along with his other hand. "I did not even mean to intrude on whatever skirmish is happening here, I merely saw a young lady in trouble and chose to intervene"
Skirmish?! Men are dying out here, and he calls this a skirmish! Link thought, and how could he not know Hylian Sign, it was taught as nearly a second language to the denizens of Hyrule. Link thought, anger subsiding for curiosity. This man does not even look fully Hylian, his features are too… rounded. Keeping an eye on this new stranger Link turned to Zelda.
"Are you alright, who is this man, what is this man?"
"Honestly Link, I'm fine, as for our new friend –" the ground shook next to them as the third Lynel galloped away, a Hinox had been disturbed by the fight and now joined the fray. "As for our new friend, he will have to wait for us to turn back these monsters." Turning to the stranger in their midst "how are you with that sword, mister…" Zelda leaned forward expectantly.
Obi-Wan judged the blade in his hand. It has a bit more heft than a lightsaber, but it would do for now. "O- Ben, you can just call me Ben for now, as for this sword, it's not what I'm accustomed to, but I should be fine, I can at least keep myself alive enough for you to still be able to interrogate later." He quipped. Obi-Wan didn't know much about where he was, but he could tell that warrior answered to this woman and that meant she was of at least some importance.
Turning toward the Hinox, Link and Zelda fought in tandem, as though two halves of the same being, one physical, the other mystical. Obi-Wan could tell he would only get in their way, the same way others often slowed down he and Anakin's more inspired ideas, and so turned his attention to the reptilian creatures attempting flank the others. Slicing one here, and narrowly avoiding another there, Obi-Wan was able to keep the creatures occupied as the other two delt with the giant cyclopean creature. Obi-Wan could hardly believe his eyes, the creature ripped whole trees out of the ground and managed to throw the trunks as spears. He could tell it was hardly intelligent, but what it lacked in intelligence it more than made up for in brute strength. Even still, the young warrior proved more than its match. Fearlessly the warrior was able stand toe-to-incredibly large toe with the beast as the woman to his side kept its attention between blows. Watching her was nearly as incredible. With every strike of the young warrior's blade, the woman would fling blasts of light at the creature, stunning it and taking its attention for the next round of attacks from her partner. Most intriguing of all was the small device at her waist, when a blast missed or a swing of sword met its well-guarded legs, a shimmering gold ray would come from it holding the creature in place as the two regrouped, a feat most remarkable. Just as Obi-Wan pushed back an assailing reptile he felt a thud next to him, the large beast had fallen, shaking the ground with its drop. With its fall, the remainder of the strange aliens had been routed and disappeared back into the forest.
No sooner had the fight ended, had Obi-Wan been surrounded by a dozen spear wielding knights, the woman and her guard approaching. He sat his blade on the ground and moved his hands up high. Though trouble always seemed to find him, he always found it best not to prod, especially when what would be prodding back was a sharp as the spears and as quick as that warrior.
Link, that woman had called him Link. It wasn't much, but it was all Obi-wan had to go on. He'd have to play it cool to avoid the fate of these pig-like aliens and make it back home. Were they some kind of Ugnaught? No, those questions would have to come later, and judging by the rage-filled face marching toward him, he'd have to answer some questions before he would be able to ask his own.
Falling back on his training, but keeping his hands in the air, Obi-Wan sat down and steadied himself before the young warrior could sink his teeth into him. Meditation and calming emotions will be key here. Obi-Wan was very familiar with the art of surrender and negotiation, they were of course his specialty.
