All's Well That Ends Well

[Mal and Evie's home. 2:10 am]

Mal's POV

"Goddammit!"

I turned on the small lamp nearby and saw Evie had tripped over the ottoman in front of our bed.

"E? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine! Just go back to sleep."

She had annoyance in her voice once again. Before bed, she seemed okay. She said goodnight to me in a loving voice, but I know something is off. She woke up to use the bathroom, after she was done and was heading back to bed, I thought I'd offer her a chance to talk.

"Sweetness, what's bothering you? And don't say it's nothing-"

I stopped and realized that I was about to say what Evie has said to me a couple times. However, she knew that too. But I think she thought I was being cocky or something, because she just scoffed at me and turned herself over in bed where her back was facing me. I quietly sighed and turned over as well.

[Mal and Evie's home. 9:06 am]

Later that morning, Carlos, Jay and I decided to have some fun after eating breakfast. We missed each other so much and definitely missed the fun we used to have. Like doing silly stuff. Lonnie and Jane joined us while Evie was upstairs getting ready for work.

"What are you guys up to?" Lonnie asked.

"You're just in time, girls, for a cool trick." I said.

"Okay!"

"I like cool tricks." Jane said.

"Oh, you're going to love this." I said.

I went to the pantry and grabbed a small package of scotch candy and a large soda bottle, and returned back to them at the island.

"What is this?" Jay asked.

"I saw these videos on the internet. If you put one of these little candies inside a soda bottle, a chemical reaction instantly happens and the soda starts exploding out of the bottle like a volcano." I explained.

"Really?" Jane asked.

"That sounds so cool."

"Yep. So I'll open up this wrapper and pull out a piece of candy." I said.

"I want to try it!" Jay said as he grabbed the wrapper out of my hand.

He was so eager to try it out, he quickly got a piece of that candy and opened the lid to the soda.

"Wait, Jay!" I yelled.

I wanted to do it outside, because I knew there would be a huge mess from it. But it was too late. Just as Jay dropped the candy inside, I tried to grab the soda bottle to run it out but accidentally tipped the bottle over and had it point towards the entrance to the kitchen. The soda quickly gushed out like lava out of a volcano like I said it would.

But the worst thing about it was Evie walked right into the kitchen at that moment. A bad coincidence as soda sprayed all over her. After all the soda was out of the bottle, Evie stood in front of us, soaked and dripping wet with soda. We looked at her with a shocked expression as Evie looked down to the floor with her eyes closed, not saying a word.

"Oh my god. Sweetness!" I exclaimed, realizing what just happened.

I rushed over to her, touching her soaked clothes. She was completely dressed and looked like she was ready for work, but since her hair and clothes were wet, she wasn't anymore.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

Evie opened her eyes and sighed before looking at me.

"I am so sorry, Evie. I was the one who put the candy in the bottle, thus making the soda burst all over you. I truly did not mean to. I didn't even know you were walking in." Jay said.

"None of us did." Lonnie said.

"I am truly, very, very sorry, Evie." Jay said.

"Quiet! I don't want to hear anymore!" Evie snapped, causing me to step back from her.

"Evie." I said.

"I've had enough trouble already!" Evie said before walking out of the kitchen to go back upstairs.

"She's pissed, isn't she?" Jay asked.

"I need to talk to her." I said.

I ran out of the kitchen, but stopped in the living room.

"Is it okay if you guys clean this up without me? I should really talk to Evie." I said.

Carlos, Jay, Lonnie and Jane nodded.

"Yeah. Go ahead. We got this." Lonnie said.

"Thanks." I said.

I walked to the foyer and up the stairs. When I got to our bedroom door, I slowly opened the door. I didn't want to walk in on Evie changing. Like I've never seen her naked before. But really, I didn't want to startle her. After not seeing her in the bedroom, I knew she must be in the bathroom. I walked more into the room and closed the door behind me. I walked into the bathroom to see Evie in her bra and underwear with a towel in her hand. Dabbing away the excess water from her hair from washing the soda out.

"Hey." I said softly.

"Hey." Evie said back softly, while not looking at me.

"You want to talk?" I asked.

"No."

I watched Evie as she dried her hair with a hair dryer. After it was dry enough, she styled her hair into a ponytail and then turned to me.

"Are you going to watch me get dressed too?" she asked, sounding a bit annoyed.

"I'm just here for you, that's all." I said.

"Mal, there is nothing you can do. There is nothing anyone can do."

"Jay does feel really bad about what happened. I do too. I accidentally tipped the bottle over and had the bottle point right at the kitchen entrance, but anyway I feel bad. We all do. And Jay, along with the rest of us, are very sorry." I said.

"I know you are. But...I'm not upset about that." Evie said.

"Then what are you upset about?" I asked.

Evie glanced at the time on her phone which was sitting on the counter.

"I'm going to be late. Doesn't matter. I'll probably be the first one he'll fire." Evie said.

"What? What are you talking about?" I asked.

Evie said no more as she put on another top and a skirt. She put her shoes on and I followed her out of the bedroom to the top of the stairs.

"E, something happened at work?" I asked.

Evie just looked at me before walking down the stairs. I sighed and followed her into the kitchen. The four had gotten all the soda cleaned up and were just wrapping up as Evie and I returned back.

"Evie, I am very sorry for what happened." Jay said.

"We are too." Jane said.

But Evie didn't say anything back. Instead, she grabbed the car keys, dropped her phone into her purse, grabbed it and walked to the door leading to the garage.

"I'll be back later."

That was all she said before leaving.

"Were you able to talk to her?" Lonnie asked.

"No. She did not say very much. And I can't force it out of her. We'll just have to wait until she comes back home." I replied.

Evie's POV

"Evie, you're late!"

Great. This guy is still here.

"Ease off on Evie, she's a good worker." Gabi said.

"Being "good" isn't going to be enough to guarantee her to keep her job. You have to be the best. Now, off you go. There is work to be done." Adam said before walking away.

"What an asshole." Gabi said.

"Sorry I was late." I said.

"It's okay. Everything alright at home?"

I shrugged.

"I suppose so." I said.

Gabi looked at me questionably but before anything else could happen...

"Hey! What are you doing standing around, Gabriella?! Get back to work!" Adam said sternly.

Gabi let out a soft aggravated sigh before heading back to her office. But I didn't follow her. I wanted to know what was happening. So I followed Adam instead.

"Hey! What's going on? Why are you being like this?" I asked.

"I'm tired of people not doing their jobs!" Adam replied.

"Or are you mad because I wouldn't let you take me out?"

"Watch it, Evie!"

He began to stare at me in a mean way. I guess he was trying to intimidate me. But I'm not someone who could easily back down as I stared right back at him. After our little stare down that lasted a few seconds, he smiled at me.

"Tough girl aren't you?" he asked.

"More than you'll know." I said.

"Get to work." he said quietly.

He walked away, me sighing afterwards and going to Gabi's office.

"Where were you?" Gabi asked.

"Got held up." I replied.

"Oh okay. Can you do me a favor?"

"Sure."

"Go take out Adam."

I laughed.

"I wish I could. I mean I actually think I could, but you know."

"Yeah, we both would get fired." Gabi said.

"Get back to work!" Adam was heard yelling from the other side of the wall.

"Corporate scrooge!" a male voice was heard which made Gabi and I look at each other, not sure what to think of that.

Throughout the next two hours everything went okay. Not great but okay. That was until a printer got jammed. And Adam really overreacted by calling us all over to it to talk. However something unexpected was about to happen.

"Now listen, people. I know you all have deadlines to make. And we can't afford to waste time like this. Need I remind you that we all have a job to do. There are orders to fill, emails to respond to. Clients to attend to. Now when ridiculous things like this happen, it causes a huge set back." Adam said.

"Wow, that is a lot of "No shit, Sherlock". You know, I think throughout the whole time of you saying all that, the problem could've been fixed and they would already be working right now. But no, you had to stop all of us to tell us what we already know." Gabi said.

"And who are you to say that?" Adam said.

"I'm the executive, remember? I'm in charge of this whole building." Gabi said.

"Oh really? And here I thought your position was 'piece of shit'." Adam said.

"Not quite." Gabi said.

She walked over to a nearby tall mirror and aimed it at Adam so his own reflection could be seen by him.

"This is 'piece of shit'."

"Okay, that's it! Gabriella, I'm going to-"

"Do nothing about it!" A male voice interrupted.

We all looked towards the entrance and saw Gia holding a coat for an older man with a suit and tie.

"Sir!" Adam and Gabriella said at the same time.

I looked in curiosity at the man, not sure who he was or what was going on.

"Who's that?" I whispered to a nearby employee.

"That's Jayden Meyers. He's the CEO."

"The CEO?"

Oh wow. This could either go good or bad as he walked up to Adam and Gabi.

"Sir. What are you doing here?" Adam asked.

"I came to check on things. Wanting to know how everything is going. And I see you have been scolding our employees, Adam." Jayden said.

"But, sir. They have not been performing well." Adam said.

"Oh really? Well I did a check earlier and Gabriella has been leading her staff very well. In fact, everyone has been performing well. Gabriella, I'm proud of you." Jayden said.

"Thank you, sir." Gabi said with a smile as she and Jayden shook hands.

"I heard you have a new assistant."

"I do. She's right there." Gabi said as she pointed at me.

I had a very nervous feeling in my stomach, like butterflies.

"Evie, right?"

"Y-yes, sir." I said as I shook his hand.

"Gabi has told me a lot about you. And I must say it's great she has you. You've only been here two months, but you've done impressively well for that short time. You keep up the good work." Jayden said.

"Yes, sir. I will."

"I wouldn't worry about Evie. She really is a great assistant. I'm glad I met her. And I can already see she has great potential in this company." Gabi said as she walked over to me.

"Indeed. Watch out for her, Adam. One day she could take your place." Jayden said to Adam, which of course he didn't like the sound of that.

"Well...I don't know about that." I said, feeling a little embarrassed.

"But since everyone did well this year, you all can expect an increase in your wages." Jayden said to everyone.

And that made everyone happy again.

"Come along, Adam. We need to talk." Jayden said.

"Yes, sir." Adam said.

"Goodbye, everyone!" Jayden said.

"Goodbye!" We all said.

"Alright, everyone. Let's get back to it." Gabi said.

Work resumed and Gabi had me follow her into her office.

"Evie?"

"Yes?"

"This may be unprofessional of me, but it's okay as long as it's between us."

"Hmm?"

Gabi grabbed me and pulled me into a tight hug. I smiled and began hugging her back.

"I meant what I said about you. You really are a great assistant. And I'm so glad I met you."

"Oh, Gabi. I've enjoyed working for you. And I know I'll continue to enjoy working for you. You're a great boss. And I'm also glad I met you too." I said.

We let go of each other but we held each other's hands.

"Do you think we could be friends?" Gabi asked.

I smiled.

"We already are. And since we are, there's something I've been meaning to tell you."

"What's that?"

"Mal and I haven't started on planning our wedding yet, but I know one thing for sure, I'd like you to be there."

"Really? Oh that is so sweet of you. I'd love to be there."

I smiled again and we engaged in another hug.

"We've only known each other for two months, but it just feels so much longer than that." Gabi said.

"Right? I feel the same way."

After the hug, Gabi walked over to her desk.

"You know, I loved what you said to Adam with that mirror." I said.

"Clever, right?"

"Absolutely."

Gabi straightened some papers on her desk.

"Well, shall we get back to work, my wonderful assistant?" she asked.

"Yes, my wonderful boss." I replied.

[Mal and Evie's home. 3:15 pm]

Mal's POV

It was almost time for Evie to arrive home, and I had put in a chicken casserole I had made in the oven around three. It's our lunch. Yeah, eating lunch after 3pm. Whatever. We decided not to have lunch until Evie gets home. That way we can all eat together.

"The casserole smells good." Lonnie said as she walked into the kitchen.

"It does, doesn't it?" I asked.

"Mmhmm." Lonnie replied.

Lonnie put her arms around me and made me dance a little with her.

"What is this?" I asked.

"I don't know. Just thought I'd have a little dance with my best friend." Lonnie said.

We gave each other a kiss on the cheek and hugged for a few seconds until we heard a door open. It was Evie, coming in from the garage.

"Evie!" Lonnie said.

"Hi, sweetness. Welcome home." I said.

"Hi, Lonnie. Hi, baby. I really need to use the bathroom." Evie said.

"Go for it." I said.

While Evie went upstairs, Carlos, Jay and Jane came inside from the backyard.

"It's cold out there." Jay said.

"I know, I can feel it." I said.

"Has Evie come back?" Jane asked.

"Yeah, she just got back. She's upstairs." I said.

We all decided to sit at the kitchen table. Evie came back down and saw the empty seat next to me so she decided to sit there.

"Hi, Evie." Carlos said.

"Hi, Carlos." Evie said.

"I'm making us lunch. It's a chicken casserole. I thought about making it around noon, but decided to wait until an hour ago, that way we can all eat together." Mal said.

"That being said, Mal, do you know how long it has been in the oven?" Lonnie asked.

"Damn it! I knew I should've set a timer." I said as I got up from the chair.

I thought I didn't need one. I put it in around three, but I lost track of time. As I was just about to walk to the oven, a hand was suddenly felt grabbing my right shoulder. I turned and saw it was Evie.

"Evie, it's okay. I got it." I said.

She didn't say anything. Only stood up from her chair and stared at me for a few seconds but felt like forever.

"I'm so sorry!" Evie finally said.

"Huh?" I said, not understanding what was happening.

"I wasn't saying anything about what happened at work because I was still so upset and my anger was so close to bursting. As it did a little bit this morning. I didn't want to say anything else because I was afraid I would yell at you for the wrong reasons. I'm sorry for not just sitting down and not talking to you like I would with you. Because I know that's what you were trying to do. And I don't blame you for hating me on how I acted. I'm so sorry."

Before I could say anything, Evie threw herself into me, giving me a tight hug.

"Damn it. I could never hate you." I said with a smile.

The others smiled warmly at us.

"Would you tell me what happened?" I asked.

"There was this guy from the corporate office that came in and basically made all of our lives miserable. He even tried to ask me out, but I happily told him I was engaged to you."

"Yeah?" I asked.

"Yeah. But today the CEO came in, really nice gentlemen. He praised Gabi and me for our hard work. And Gabi praised me as well."

"All's well that ends well?"

"Yes."

I gave Evie a kiss before checking in on our casserole. I opened the oven and a nice smell hit my face.

"Oh yeah. It's done." I said.

I put on some oven mitts and carefully took the dish out of the oven. Evie started helping me serve our lunch. After our family started eating, Evie pulled me aside in the living room so she could be alone with me.

"What is it?" I asked.

Evie said nothing and instead she started to hug me tightly. I smiled and started to hug her back.

"I'm so sorry for how I acted." she said.

"E, you don't need to apologize anymore. I forgive you." I said.

"But I feel I need to make it up to you somehow."

I let go of Evie and had her look at me.

"Evie, what has gotten into you?" I asked.

"For a start, you. I've been thinking about you a lot lately."

"So it seems."

"Is it bad?"

"Of course not. I've been thinking a lot about you too."

"So how can I make it up to you?" Evie asked.

"You don't need to. Evie, you're good."

"But I-"

"Okay. You want to make it up to me?" I asked.

"Yes." Evie replied.

"Then you can make it up to me in bed tonight. Pleasure me the way I like to be pleasured." I said.

A big smile formed on Evie's face.

"I was hoping you'd say that." she said.

"Huh?"

"I know I don't have to make it up to you, but it's been a few nights since we had sex. So I thought perhaps tonight we can."

"You put on that little act just to get me to say-"

"Yep! Now let's go eat." Evie said as she grabbed my hand.

"Oh you." I said.

Evie smiled and gave me a nice kiss on the lips.
