"I'm off to school, Nezuko. I'll see you later." Yusuke said waving the girl goodbye as Nezuko waved back while facing back at the large screen in front of her. She didn't know what it was called when she first came to the world when Yusuke said it was called a "Television" that showed people or animated characters moving around.
It was fascinating for Nezuko to look at the television screen and listened to the people talk inside of it. While she was watching tv she heard someone tapping on the glass window as she looked over to see Hiei who was holding a tape in his hands. She walked over to the window to open it and let him inside.
"Is Yusuke around here?" Hiei asked.
Nezuko shook her head.
"Damn. I'm supposed to give him this tape that Koenma order me to do. Can you give it to him when he gets back?" Hiei asked.
Nezuko nodded her head as Hiei gave her the tape as she retreated to the living room to place it on the coffee table. He watched her sit in front of the television watching something playing on the screen as he took a seat next to her. She seemed really into it like she has never seen anything like this before.
"Are you even from around here?" Hiei asked.
Nezuko shrugged her shoulders looking at Hiei in a glance before focusing back on the screen.
"Do you ever miss being out in the sun?" He asked.
A slight nod came from Nezuko as she sat crisscrossed. Hiei stares at her then back at the show she was watching before asking another question.
"Why were drooling back at the Maze Castle?" Hiei asked.
Nezuko took her eyes off the screen as she went to the other room to get a pen and paper to write her response down. After she finished writing it she gave it to Hiei to read while she went back to watching tv.
Her response on the paper she wrote was, "I was drooling because there was a human corpse lying in the cell. He was eating the body before we arrive to get energy and I got distracted when I picked up the bloody human flesh. I fought the urge not to eat it. I never want to hurt a human. Never hurt them because they are good. Only some."
Hiei scowls at the response from Nezuko claiming that humans are good people-only some that she sees are good. She never devoured a human and she was preventing herself not to eat its fresh body flesh to smell the strong scent of blood hitting her nose.
"If you didn't want to eat it there was no reason holding back. I know you must be craving to have a strong amount of blood into your body." Hiei clarified as he saw Nezuko shook her head to disagree with his response. "Then if you don't eat you'll die!" Nezuko looks over Hiei with a blank expression in her eyes that was very unreadable.
'Does she want to starve herself to death? She must want an amount of blood to keep her body energize.' Hiei thought.
"It doesn't make sense for you to starve yourself without a drain of blood. Why even care for these worthless humans, anyway?" He felt his hand being taken by hers as she stared into Hiei's eyes holding both of her hands around his. Hiei was confused as he tried to read her expression to sense a sad and familiar feeling that happened to her.
'She's been through something, but she doesn't want to tell me. Perhaps she doesn't have my full trust to explain her side story.' Hiei could only think of the reason that Nezuko was more different than any demon back in the demon world. She was too kind and affectionate around humans, but when she didn't kill Hiei or Kurama since they were demons. Why is that?
"I guess you need time before we even get to know each other more. Right?" Hiei asked.
"Mmm...Mmm." Nezuko replied.
A small smile formed on Hiei's lips that he knew that she was capable of understanding him.
"Have you tried the human food here?" Hiei inquiry Nezuko as she shook her head.
Hiei never tried human food since he first came to the human world, but later on, he did have a little taste. He was surprised at how delicious their meals were then in the demon world. So, he stood up and walk into the small kitchen opening the fridge to scan around to find an apple, and on the counter was some bread.
'Maybe she can try these two if she doesn't barf it out.' Hiei thought.
When he returned to Nezuko she faced directly at him as he set down holding two things: an apple and a loaf of bread.
"Try these two." He said handing them to her as Nezuko tilt her head to the side. Hiei pointed at her muzzle to let her know that she needs to move it.
'She's protruding too.' Hiei deeply sighed. He reached to Nezuko's muzzle to remove it from her mouth as he stared at her facial shape. She looked different without the muzzle on as he saw her mouth gap open to reveal her sharp fangs making him slightly chuckle. She leaned closer as she touched Hiei's cheek making him stiff, then she grabbed the bottom of his chin to open his mouth gently to see his fangs.
"Let go." He demanded.
"Raaa...raaa." She says staring in awe as Hiei removes her hands off his face and cleared his throat. He held out one of the food items for her to try.
"Put the bread in your mouth," Hiei ordered.
Nezuko looks at a loaf of bread putting it on her mouth with her teeth holding it, and not taking a bite. Deep down Hiei had to admit that she was acting way too innocent and adorable. He showed her how to eat it and as she started to take a couple of bites her she then gobble it down.
"Okay. Now, take a bite from this here apple." He pointed at the apple as Nezuko reached down to pick it up and examines it. She then took a small bite from the apple to chew it and then swallowed. Her eyes glistened as she began to chow on the apple really fast. "Slow down! You will choke yourself!"
After hearing Hiei's lecture about not eating too fast. That's when Yusuke's mother came into the room with a lit-up cigarette as she greeted them.
"Oh, I see you've got a friend over. Do you mind checking on the laundry, the dishes, and for any garbage while I'm out?" Yusuke's mother politely asked her as she merely nodded watching the woman leave out of the house.
"You really about to do what that woman tells you to do?" Hiei asked.
"Mmm," Nezuko said.
She turned her heel around to get to work around the household as she opened the dryer to check for laundry. The clothes were dry and some needed to be washed as she put the next batch inside after taking the dry ones out. Hiei watches the girl contorting that she was obeying the woman for doing chores like a slave.
'Why does she have to follow her orders? She has the right to say no.' Hiei thought as Nezuko carries the basket of laundry to put it in the living room next to the sofa.
"Mmm...Mng..." Nezuko hummed.
"You know you don't have to do all of this." Hiei knew that she wasn't listening to him instead of doing work around the apartment. Nezuko came over holding a trash bag in her hands that Hiei remembered that she was not communing into the sunlight.
"Wait! You can't just go outside." Hiei told her as she waves her hand in front of him by setting the trash by the door, then she went to Yusuke's room. Nezuko changed into a pair of clothes that looked too hot to wear outside and in public. "You can't be serious. Do you do this every time you go out?" He deliberately was astonished after witnessing Nezuko struggling not to be melted by the sun-just to wear warm clothes when it's completely warm outside.
"Mmm.." Nezuko walked over to the trash bag only to be snatched away by Hiei. He didn't look happy.
"I'll do it." He said opening the door as he went out to take down the tree not by using the staircase when he could easily jump down and head back up while climbing. When he came back Nezuko was wearing her normal outfit and was in the kitchen doing dishes.
After the dishes, she had to fold clothes or hang them up in the closet. Hiei stood there watching her do all of this work, and she didn't stop until it was done. She looked into Yusuke's drawer to refold the clothes for the twenty-fourth time which she didn't mind. When every chore was done, the fire demon knew that Nezuko needed rest, so he allowed her to sleep on the couch when he left the apartment.
Hours later, Yusuke got home from school tired and worn out after dealing with Keiko and Kuwabara. As he sat his things aside, he noticed a tape on the coffee table as he glanced over at Nezuko who was still asleep didn't know that he enter in the apartment.
"Nezuko?" Yusuke gently shook her shoulders as Nezuko let out a small moan while opening her eyes to see who was waking her up. She looked over and saw that Yusuke had just come back from school. "Hey, where did you get this tape?"
Nezuko wrote on the sheet of paper to let him know that Hiei gave it to her when he came to the apartment earlier today. It was sent by Koenma for them to watch it; Yusuke suggested that they should head to Kuwabara's place and have Botan with them. So, Nezuko went to go change into a light pink hoodie, black pants, and a pair of sneakers while she got ready Yusuke had her bag to carry her around in. She shrunk to a kid's size allowing Yusuke to wear on his back while they head over to Kuwabara's place.
"Hey, Urameshi and Botan." Kuwabara greeted them at the doorway to let them inside of his home.
"Nice place." Yusuke complimented.
Kuwabara grunts in response as he watches Yusuke remove the bag off his shoulders to set it down revealing Nezuko inside. The girl climbs out to grow back to her normal size again.
"Hi Nezuko~" Kuwabara greeted as he was greeted by a small wave in return.
A cute altercation between Yusuke and Botan discussing Keiko as Kuwabara readies his VCR to play the tape about Yusuke's mission. Nezuko was lying on her side with her head resting on Yusuke's thigh like a pillow. Koenma and elaborates all about Yusuke's next mission, where they have to rescue a girl named Yukina who is being held captive by a greedy old businessman named Tarukane in a mansion in the middle of the forest. Yukina has the capability to create rare pearls from her tears and these pearls cost millions, that's why Tarukane is forcing her all this time to cry for his business to bloom. All this time they didn't know that Shizuru, Kuwabara's older sister, is watching from behind.
Kuwabara gets this Love-At-First-Sight blues on Yukina and runs off to prepare himself and that last bit of the tape. The main three listened to Koenma explain that Yukina is Hiei's sister. Hiei knows it but Yukina doesn't know. and worse now Kuwabara doesn't.
Yusuke, Kuwabara, Nezuko, and Botan start their journey to the forest to save Yukina, led by Kuwabara, who is still infatuated after seeing Yukina... Tarukane realizes someone is invading their territory, so he dispatches one of his men. On their way, Yusuke and the gang meet one of Tarukane's men, Hirue, and it turns out that this person is a monster as it turns into a tentacle-like creature...It looks like big trouble. Think again. Kuwabara slices off the creature with his spirit sword and Yusuke finishes him off with a dash of his rei gun as the gang defeats him and they continue towards the mansion, ready to face any challenges Tarukane might send against them. Since Nezuko wasn't going to be able to fight all she can do was sit in the bag until they reach the mansion that way she'll be able to fight any of Tarukane's demons.
Later that night, the others made a campfire to rest up for tomorrow to continue the mission. Nezuko wakes up and crawls out of the bag returning to her normal size. The others were fast asleep around the warm campfire that lets out a crackling sound. She decided to go for a walk around the woods to make sure there weren't any demons nearby. Hiei who was around them noticed that Nezuko was wide awake as he began to follow her wondering where she was heading off to because it was now dark and okay for her to walk around in the woods. As Nezuko walks ahead she finds lovely flowers shining under the moonlight as she stares in awe at the beautiful sight of them.
"What are you doing awake? Shouldn't you be sleeping?" A familiar dry tone caught her ears as Nezuko whip her head around to see Hiei. She turned to face him directly as he approached over to her. "Don't just stare at me like you didn't hear me." A small smile form on Nezuko's lips as she turned her back facing away from Hiei. This literally annoyed Hiei that she was ignoring him and acted like he didn't exist around her.
Before Hiei could speak he felt a soft hand patting his head only to see Nezuko was standing in front of him. She tilted her head to the side only to vision her baby brother in Hiei's gaze before she stopped and looked down a little sadly. She remembers the last bit of the tape when Koenma mentioned that Hiei had a sister trapped by the hands of a cruel man wanting her tears to make the shape of pearls to cost millions by making that man rich. So, Nezuko went over to the flowers to pick them and approached Hiei by handing them to him.
"Why are you giving me those? I don't need them." He declined.
Nezuko shook her head as she reached down to grab Hiei's hand to let him hold the flowers. She pointed to the location where the mansion of Tarukane held Yukina captive. It took a second for Hiei to realize that the flowers weren't for him it was for Yukina.
"Why are you giving me the flowers? You can give them to her." He reporting asked.
It was a very gentle touch when Nezuko wrapped her hands around Hiei staring deeply into his eyes. She didn't want to give them to Yukina and she promises that she'll be just fine when they rescue her. Hiei deeply sighs at the demon girl's actions that he sensed something about Nezuko was a familiar feeling to her. She too, had been involved in a situation like this, hasn't she?
"Fine. I'll give them to her." Hiei flatly replied as he put the flowers inside of his pant pockets. Nezuko genuinely smiled up at the fire demon as she returns to where Yusuke, Botan, and Kuwabara were leaving Hiei alone as he stared down at the flowers.
'She has a kind heart. I don't know why she wants me to give the flowers to Yukina.' Hiei deeply thought.
She was calling him to get his attention which he was a little rude to her at first, but she was curious. Hiei told her to go on, but what he didn't expect was a pat on the head as she tilted her head thinking about her younger brother. Soon she noticed some flowers nearby as she went to go take a look at them before she went back to rest. When she picked the flowers Hiei was watching her as she picked them and she gave them to him. Hiei didn't want them, but she said "Give these Yukina" to make her feel better knowing she can still live free. The demon was slightly puzzled at her actions that he didn't say anything only to see how tired Nezuko was when she retreated to her bag to sleep.
