Sorelli and I finished my training a little earlier than expected. I learned very many valuable things about my job and the way Mr. Destler likes things to be done. Sorelli and I gathered our things and walked towards our parked cars. "I'm really going to miss it here," said Sorelli. "Why exactly are you leaving, if you don't mind me asking," I replied. "Well, I am with child obviously, and Theodore, my husband, has been recently promoted. This finally gives us an opportunity to relocate into a bigger home outside of the city." "That's great for you. You and your husband will finally be able to disperse from the city and build your own little family." "Thank you, Christine. Mr. Destler tried his very best to get me to stay… he even offered paying for a bigger home near his area. I simply had to decline, you see. Mr. Destler has done so much for Theodore and I, we just wanted to see what we could do on our own."
Sorelli must have noticed the look on my face as soon as we got to our cars. "Christine, I assure you… Mr. Destler is a wonderful man. Once you get past his frontal barrier, you'll learn just how much of a sweetheart Erik really is," she said. I nodded and opened my arms to receive the hug she was offering. "If you need anything, I mean anything at all… give me a call or shoot me a text. I'll be here to help you in any way you may need," she stated with a smile.
As I drove away from Destler LLC, I realized just how much my life is going to change after starting my internship here. I need to figure out how I'm going to tell my dad that I need to move. I feel like I'm letting him down, I know that he needs me right now. Especially with my baby sister being so young. My mother passed away a couple of months ago, when Bianca was only 7 months old. It's now the middle of September, only 2 months since her passing. Dad has been hit the hardest by all of this, she was his first and only love.
My mother and father had my brother, Bradley and I very young. My Mother was 19, and had recently moved from Mexico to the United States to pursue her dancing and singing career. My father was 22 and finishing his senior year at the state university. Mamá's dreams were put on hold to help care for Bradley and had me only 1 year later. Father continued on to complete medical school and become an anesthesiologist. It was hard for both of them but they wouldn't change having Bradley and I for the world.
Mamá was beautiful. She could light up a room with only a smile, and she absolutely loved Christmas and everything to do with it. Father described her as the most beautiful woman in the entire world. He loved everything about her, from her beauty and selflessness to her feisty attitude. He claims that he knew he would marry her the moment they looked into each other's eyes on their first date. Father was always so romantic when it came to Mamá. He has set my standards for any man who enters my life extremely high, and I don't expect anything less.
I pulled into the driveway of my current and childhood home. The house seemed so empty now that Bradley had moved out after marrying Addison, and Mamá passed away shortly after. I am just now beginning to grow accustomed to living without her, but I know that it'll never be the same.
I stepped out of my car, closing the door and locking it up behind me. I made my way towards the door and used my keys to let myself in. I spotted my little baby sister in her highchair with banana slices and applesauce all over her face and hair. "Hi, baby! Did you get food all over yourself again? Did Papa let you try to eat on your own again," I asked with a baby voice. She smiled up at me, pointing her little chubby pointer finger in the air. "Well, aren't you just the cutest. Lets go get you washed up," I said as I picked her up and made my way over to the bathroom with her.
As I was giving Bianca her bath I heard footsteps approaching the bathroom. I looked up and into the mirror to find my dad standing at the doorway. "Christine, honey. I had no idea you had gotten home. I got an urgent phone call from the hospital, and I'm going to have to leave the baby with you tonight," he said. I wrapped Bianca up in a towel and handed her to my dad. "That's okay, dad. Why don't you go get her changed and I'll get dinner started."
I had just finished placing the main dish and sides on the dinner table when dad walked into the room. "Well, that took a while," I said with a chuckle. "Yeah, your little sister sure is a handful. I wish your mother was still here… she did so well with her, Better than I ever could," he said with a small shrug. I made my way over to a side of the table to pull a chair out for him and motioned him to take a seat. Afterwards, I made my way over to my own and started putting things on my plate. "Dad, I have to talk to you about something important." My dad fixed his posture and proceeded to give me all of his attention.
"Well, as you know, I started my first day of my internship at Destler LLC today." Father nodded at me, in an attempt to show that he was listening. "Well, I finished most of my training today and was given a lot of new information for the head of the company himself." I noticed my dad starting to grow a little anxious about what I had to say. Last time I sat him down like this I told him I was engaged to my ex-fiance, Raoul. "Well, due to my position being so demanding. My boss needs me in close proximities at all times. I even received a new cell phone and laptop for communication purposes. On top of this, my boss has a strict rule about his secretaries living in a certain proximity to him. I exceed this limit, meaning that I have to relocate to a place closer to him," I stated. Dad nodded in understanding but I could still sense a bit of worry in his demeanor. "Christine, how does your boss expect you to relocate so quickly? Do you even have the money to relocate right now," he asked. "As for any travel, living, and relocation expenses. My boss covers them all. I am not choosing to relocate or travel around and accompany them to meetings therefore all of these expenses are being covered by the company," I continued. "Very, well. That sounds completely reasonable. But will that change anything about you helping to care for your sister," he asked. "Dad, you can count on me no matter what. I will always help you with the baby. When I'm travelling, I could always ask Bradley and Addison to take her if needed."
After my conversation with my dad, I began to start storing my stuff in boxes. Sorelli did say I was to be moved out by tomorrow. I was labeling one of the boxes when my dad entered the room, he wore his usual dark blue scrubs and scrub cap. "Christine, honey. I'm off to work, I got a call earlier about an incoming surgery at the hospital and the patient should be there in about an hour. I need to be early to scrub in on time and prepare the anesthesia." He moved to give me a kiss on my forehead. I watched him make his way to my door before he turned around. "Oh, I almost forgot. I put your sister to bed a little bit ago, you can either sleep in my room or bring the baby monitor to yours." He looked down at his watch and quickly walked out the door. I feel terrible leaving my father and sister like this knowing how much they both depend on me.
