Three weeks later…
It's been weeks since the last time Erik and I communicated with one another. I have decided to give him his space and focus on myself for the time being. I haven't been feeling well since I've returned from Ibiza and I am sure most of the reason behind it has to do with me missing Erik. But if there is anything that my mother made sure to teach me before her passing, was that you can't force someone to love you. Erik needs to decide for himself what he really wants, but I still can't help myself for being angry at him for leading me on. But I guess he isn't the only one to blame, I shouldn't have left myself with hopes and dreams that depended on someone else's wants to come true.
I have been doing nothing more than going to work and coming home, sometimes heading to dad's or Bradley's house to pick up Bianca. This morning, I will be heading into work… late. I have not been feeling well and I woke up very nauseous this morning, more than usual. I decided to go with a more casual look as Erik still is not back, and Nadir doesn't really care what anyone wears. I threw on a simple loose green dress which ties in the midsection, brown leather tall boots, with a matching brown leather crossbody bag. I threw my hair up in a messy bun and held it up with a scrunchie. With that I ran out the door, making sure to shut the door behind me.
I arrived to work at around 9:30 in the morning, when I usually report to work at 8 in the morning. Once I made it into the building and ran up to my desk as fast as I could I noticed Meg already at my desk waiting. "Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up," she said with an amused look on her face. "Sorry, I'm late. I wasn't feeling well this morning, I woke up feeling super nausesous and began throwing up," I said. Megs amused look fell from her face after hearing what I had to say, a worried look on her face took over. "What?," I asked. "Christine, think about it. You haven't been feeling well since you've been back from our trip and even though you deny it, I just know that something went down with Erik that night whether or not you want to admit it," she said. "And what exactly are you implying, Meg?"
"Well I just think that you should consider that there is a possibility that you may be-." "Don't you dare finish that sentence, Meg." "-Pregnant," she finished. I rolled my eyes. "Meg no, I am not pregnant. There is no way, now if you'll excuse me, I am sure that I have a lot to do," I said dismissively. Meg rolled her eyes at me and got up, making her way to the elevator. I pretended to be typing on my computer until I saw her disappear into the elevator. I took a big deep breath… maybe she's right.
I finished my work at around 6 o'clock and headed home. Brad and Addison have actually been very helpful with Bianca lately, I have only been getting her on the weekends and a couple of days throughout the week if I'm lucky. I got home and quickly changed into my pajamas, went to the kitchen where my Chinese takeout was waiting for me and brought it with me to the living room. Chinese was and has always been one of my comfort foods. I sat down and put my Roku onto the Netflix channel to pick a movie, I decided to continue to watch the "To All the Boys" franchise.
I was halfway through the second movie when there was a knock on my door. I forced myself out of my seat and went to open the door. A worried Meg was on the other side with a bag of groceries. "I brought ice cream, and junk food," she said with a small grin. "Fine, but only because you brought me my favorite Ben & Jerry's," I said as I stepped to the side allowing her some space to come inside. Meg put the bags on my kitchen counter, pulling a little box out and turning to look at me. "Look, Christine. I am only doing this because I care, you will only get your ice cream after you've taken this," she said revealing the little box to be a pregnancy test. I rolled my eyes. "Fine, but only because I really want that ice cream," I replied as I took the box and made my way to my bathroom.
I came out as soon as I was done peeing on that tiny stick and made my way back into the kitchen where Meg had set out the ice cream. "There, you happy now?," I asked. Meg giggled, "yes, I am. But know that I only did it because I genuinely care and I am worried about you." I nodded in understanding, "well, now we just have to wait and see." A couple of minutes passed of us sitting in silence. "Well, I think that the time should be up by now," Meg said breaking the silence. I nodded and Meg took that as a sign to go to the bathroom and grab the test. "Well, I have good news and bad news depending on how you look at it," said Meg with the test in her hand as she came back into view. "Please start with the good news," I replied. Meg smiled at me. "Well, the good news is… you're going to have a lot of support to get you through this. Because, you're not… going to believe it, but you're pregnant."
The room around me began to fade away. Meg's voice was only drifting further and further away as well. Each and everything around me began to grow dark. "Christine! Christine! Are you okay?," asked Meg's voice from afar. I opened my eyes to see a blurry looking Meg looming over me. "Christine, I'm going to call Nadir and have him help me take you to the hospital," she added.
I woke up in a hospital room, as I looked around I spotted a worried Meg sitting right next to the right side of my bed. Meg must have felt my eyes on her, as she looked up to meet my eyes. "Christine!" She said as she looked to the corner of the room, "Nadir can you please go ahead and get the doctor?" I looked to the corner of the room and spotted Nadir's nod to Meg before heading out of the room.
A couple of minutes later, the doctor walked into the room. "Hello, Christine. I am Sofía Muñoz, I am the emergency physician working the emergency room today," she said. "You may call me Sofía or Dr. Muñoz if you prefer. Now, how are you doing Christine? Do you know where you're at," she asked. I nodded as she washed her hands and put on some gloves. "Perfect. Now, I would just like to assess you quickly to see if we can get to the bottom of anything, although I'm sure your test results will be in momentarily," she continued.
She assessed me from head to toe, and walked out of the room shortly after. Within a couple of minutes there was a knock on the door and Dr. Muñoz made her way back into the room. She looked over at Meg and Nadir, "Could I have a moment alone with Christine please?" Nadir nodded and made his way out of the room. Meg looked over at me before beginning to walk. "Is it okay if she stays? She's my sister," I told Dr. Muñoz. She looked over at Meg and then nodded. "Well, it seems that I have gotten to the bottom of your fainting episode. How long have you known that you've been pregnant?," she asked. "Well, I've been worried for a while because I haven't menstruated for a little over a month now. I took an at-home test before and I must have fainted after getting the results," I said. Dr. Muñoz nodded in understanding, "Alright. Well then lets dive right in, pregnancy in usually counted based on the last day of a woman's latest menstrual period. Given your circumstances I'd say that you're about 2 months pregnant. However it is important that you know all of your options. Have you thought about what you want to do?," she asked me.
"Well, I haven't had much time to think about it. I just started a new job, moved to an apartment that I couldn't pay for if I lost that job, and I haven't had much communication with the father. However, I do have a great support system and the help to get me through any situation. I'm going to give this baby the same chance that my mother gave my brother when she got pregnant unexpectedly," I said. Dr. Muñoz nodded in understanding and wrote something down on her clipboard. "Great, well then I'll get you set up with the finest Gynecologist in the building… my sister, Dr. Davis-Muñoz. Your first appointment is at the end of this week for a standard checkup and to see how things are moving along," she added. With that she was gone, and I was left in the hospital room with Meg. What am I supposed to do now? Do I tell him? Would he even care? I don't know what to do and I feel so alone…
