First time meeting the old monkey...

The sea

Vivi was nervous about the entire thing. And not because how easily Luffy was able to outspeed even Miss All-Sunday, but because he definitely knew her. The blue haired princess was pacing the ship as Nami was telling Jinbe what direction to take alongside Nojiko who was making sure the ship is in the right direction, by observing the sea current and wind, Luffy and Zoro were both training using tons of weight, and Yamato was swining her Kanabo with enough power to generate gusts of wind that propelled Merry... Gin meanwhile was spinning his Tonfas as he was bored, Usopp was fishing alongside Johnny and Yusaku... The usual Straw Hat day...

The princess and her duck, Karoo, were at lost. What should they do? Read a book? Help someone? Nothing seems out of norm. They were bored, like sick with boredom. However, her boredom was soon cut by Yamato of all people..

"Say, Vivi, don't you train or something?" Yamato asked the princess with a knowing look in her eyes.

"Huh? Oni-san, where did that question come from?" Vivi asked the Oni Princess who shrugged. She lifted her Kanabo and gave it a few twirls before she put it down.

"I can clearly see that you're bored. There is a sayin in the new world, that every day with no training is a day wasted. So... Wanna join?" The oni asked with a huge smile as Vivi was thinking how out of place she...

"Oi, Yamato, I need someone to help me out." Luffy's voice saved Vivi from a very brutal training session. "Sanji, is the food ready?"

"It'll be in twenty, idiotic captain that have the appetite of Laboon!" Sanji replied as he stuck his head out of the kitchen's door before he went in, only for Laboon to bellow, "My bad! Even you don't eat as much as out black-hole stomached Captain!" Another bellow, much softer this time.

"Oi! I don't eat as much as I want to... Not always!" Luffy replied as Yamato chuckled at him, "It's true! Didn't you notice that I can only warm up at most?"

"That... And you also starve yourself!" Yamato replied only for Sanji to get out, and before anyone can react, he grabbed Luffy's shirt by the hem.

"Oi! Luffy, I know that you care about us, but is it true?" Sanji asked his captain dangerously, his eyes, both apparant and hidden were glaring dangerously as Luffy looked away.

"What am I supposed to do? Raid the fridge? If I eat as much as I want to... You'll all starve to death." Luffy replied only for his stomach to agree with Sanji, "See? I have to choose, either me, either the lot of you!"

"Oi, Cook, let it go!" Zoro said as he put his hand on Sanji's shoulder, "Trust me, this is the ONE argument you'll lose no matter what you do!" Zoro sighed dejectedly. Someone have to sacrifice... Better him and Luffy, even if the rubber human was more than he did...

"Sanji-san, seriously, some people would rather suffer than their loved ones.." Vivi said as Karoo quacked in agreement.

"Look, Sanji, when we land, if you can hunt something big... No, when you do hunt something huge, I will eat enough to sustain me a month, I promise!" Luffy replied as Sanji gave him one last warning before he sighed.

"Fine, fine, but you don't have to starve! Look, eat a ton if you must, but I just can't allow any of you bastards and mellorines to starve on MY watch.. What kind of cook am I?" Sanji replied only for Luffy to use his red Hawk/Shigan combination to lit the cook's cigarette, surprising everyone who jumped back.

"The best damn cook I ever met!" Luffy replied with a grin.

"A very good friend that's worth fighting even my father, his army, his old friend, her army, his old crewmate and his children to save!" Yamato replied as Luffy grinned and put his hat on her head, surprising her.

"The only cook I would NOT throw overboard in the calm belt if he does cross me!" Zoro replied while smirking, his face was ghoulish to say the least.

"What kind of monsters you three are?" Vivi asked as Sanji sighed.

"Welcome to our life, Vivi-chan..." Sanji muttered as Nami, Ussop, Nojiko, Johnny, Yusaku and Gin nodded in agreement before they returned to their trainings or duties...

"Did I make a mistake relying on them?" Vivi asked Karoo who quacked only for Luffy to clear his throat.

"He said, that you didn't make that mistake, but welcome to the hell that's called insanity..." Luffy replied as he shrugged, "Yamato, what's insanity?" The Oni twitched at this before they heard the very distinctive noise that Zoro remembered from the past timeline and flinched as Yamato took a page off Nami's book and soon enough, Geese eggs were on Luffy's head...

"EVERYTHING YOU EVER DID YOU DUMBASS!" Yamato yelled as two years of frustration took its toll on whatever sanity her father left. Then, she lifted Luffy from his underarms in her palms before she pecked him, "And that's for saving me, you lovable goof!"

"Erm, Oni-san? Are you two..?" Vivi blushed as Yamato grinned at her.

"Yes! Whether he likes it or not!" Yamato replied as Luffy regained his consciousness, but tried his best to flee... Well, tried is the key word... As Yamato took a page of her (in her opinion? Unworthy, bastard, and a long list of profanity not even I was sure to write) father and speedblitzed Luffy who found himself hoisted up by one (beautiful) Oni.

"Yamato?" Luffy asked in confusion. Yamato grinned like the chesire cat only for Zoro to interrupt their moment.

"Hey, if you two have any... Funny business? Take it to the room, and lock it up this time!" Zoro scolded the both of them before he went.. To take his daily nap... Well, snooze. And he waited for a small while only for Sanji to, thankfully, announce that lunch was ready..

Vivi was surprised how someone as scrawny looking as Luffy can easily eat more than the abnormally tall Yamato, or the massive Jinbe, but it was in fact surprising. Then again, Luffy is still growing up, and it was the reason why Sanji was rarely seen outside of the kitchen. Zoro was kinda content while he ate at a slow pace, and much to her surprise, he shot Luffy an approving look. There was something that these two never told anyone it seems, a reason why Luffy this time didn't want to stretch his arms to their plates...

Yamato gave Sanji a thumb up as she ate her twelfth and final plate. Jinbe ate only three, but his dessert included a huge portion of fruits, enough to make even Luffy jealous.. If he didn't eat more than three times the entire crew. And after lunch, which included a variety of food, with everyone taking their own portion, and thankfully, Luffy told Sanji that he would eat Ussop's mushrooms, which he did dislike with a vengeance, despite Luffy's reassurance that these were edible, as he red a book (The entire crew was shocked) about the food to avoid at all cost, even if you're starving, which made Yamato laugh, Sanji grin approvingly (well, he knew that feeling) and Nami to give him an incredulous look... Then it was time for beverages, or what Sanji and Yusaku call, smoke break...

Luffy opted to stay there, and Zoro, despite his objections of having a nap to sleep through, finally relented. When Yamato wanted to stay, Luffy told her that it was a "Men's talks, subjects and discusses" as in no ladies, er, women allowed! Even when both Yamato and Vivi objected, one for being kinda a he/she (Onis are weird sometimes..) and the other for being a teenage girl, he replied with one sentance.

"All those who are born as girls get the hell out of this kitchen!" Luffy barked a bit in a... Serious tone, which did Not fit him one bit. And after the four women got out, with one pissed off Oni, he sighed, "All those who are ininterested, period, in women, please get out!" And that left him, Sanji, Zoro and Gin. When he gave Jinbe and Ussop and objectif look.

"Well, let's just say that I don't plan to get married yet.." Jinbe replied while Ussop chuckled.

"I do have a girlfriend already!" Ussop replied as Gin debated about getting out, as much as he likes and respects Sanji, he felt that this will end up in a very weird situation, and he wanted to see the disaster unfold..

"Okay, now then Sanji, do you know how to talk to a girl?" Luffy asked the chef only to blink and look at Zoro, "Zoro, why are you still... Oh I see!" 'Who's the unlucky lass?' Luffy asked mentally.

'None of your business. You already have a girlfriend, so why did you.. Oh I see... Small wonder, Gomu-head!' Zoro snickered as he saw Luffy's indignant look, well.. He brought it to himself!

"Okay, I guess that I realized now why both Johnny and Yusaku can't stay too long.." Gin muttered as he pointed to Luffy and Zoro, Sanji shrugging.

"You'll get used to it!" Sanji replied as he took another drag from his cigarette, "Also, they said that I'm the fifth despite the fact that these two, Nami-san and Nojiko-san joined before me... And so did Jinbe and Yamato-chan, and Ussop..." Sanji said only for both Luffy and Zoro to.. Laugh?

"Sanji! These two are definitely the only reason why I would Ever think about jumping ship!" Gin added as Luffy sighed dejectedly.

"Well, you're welcome to do so, I mean, it's only fair to allow those who want to get off the sheer insanity of this crew to leave.." Luffy replied as Zoro sighed before he took a deep breath.

"However, keep in mind : Once you jump ship, you are Never allowed to come back. Leaving a crew is a very serious matter." Zoro added as Gin took a bit of time to think. Does he want to get out of this ship? Does he want to stay? The problem is that.. He hated to admitted, but he is not useful enough...

"I.. Johnny, Yusaku and I had agreed that we're way out of place and league here.." Gin begun only for the Den Den Mushi to ring. Luffy went immediately to answer it.

"This is Luffy, who's here today?" The Straw hat captain replied as he heard a loud laugher and... Paled?!

"Bwahahahaha! This is your Grandpa. I wanted to know what my dear Grandson is doing and if he's behaving himself!" Garp replied only for Zoro to sigh. Not this again!

"Well, we're fine? I mean, please stay away from Merry and my friends?" Luffy asked only for the Den Den Mushi's expression to turn into rage.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DAMNED BRAT? I MEAN I'M ON VACATION AND I WANTED TO CHECK ON YOU FOR ONCE AND THIS IS WHAT I GET? YOU UNGRATEFUL..." Garp yelled at the top of his lungs before he calmed himself down a little, "Anyways, I wanted to know.. Why didn't you tell me that you're setting sails? I would have at least gave you a goodbye at the least..."

"Nah, we'll definitely meet somewhere. Besides, I got your.. Viv.. Vir?" Luffy asked as Garp sighed once again.

"Well, it doesn't matter.. I can see a ram-headed pirate ship... Isn't that Yamato? I'm coming kid!" Garp said before he hanged and Luffy sighed dejectedly. There goes his hope for a bit of calm and tranquility...

"VIVI! HIDE, NOW!" Luffy barked as he jumped out of the kitchen, Zoro, Sanji and Gin hot on his trail. And before the princess can figure out what to do, Yamato grabbed both her and Karoo and threw them in the closest room... Before locking the door just in case. Never had she heard Luffy This panicked before. "Alright, if he's wearing his uniform, then this would be... Well, it was a pleasure knowing you guys and girls." Luffy said somberly as he knew that this is not a guaranteed battle, and if Garp would try anything... Well, he wouldn't drown at least!

And so, after a bit of hesitation, and the ship being on guard, they saw that the Marine battle ship was anchored ans that Garp was... Swimming? Luffy shrugged, saying that he wouldn't have expected anything Less from his Grandpa, if not swimming in the calm belt itself wouldn't have surprised him. And so, Gin threw a ladder to the side as Garp gripped it and threw himself up before.. Kicking the air and land on Merry, only that place was mysteriously transformed into rubber before it turned back into wood.

"You thought I would allow you, or anyone else, to mess with Merry? The bottle didn't break!" Luffy told his grandpa who smiled at him before he gripped him a bit too tightly.

"Bwahahahaha! So you awakened you abilities after all?" Garp said as Yamato and Zoro felt the pride rolling from his words. "Well, I heard a rumor that you knocked out a Logia, is it really..?"

"Yeah. You see..." Zoro replied this time before Yamato held her right hand up.

"Garp-san, you wouldn't repeat a single word, would you?" Yamato asked the old man who shrugged before he smirked.

"Well, Yamato, I heard about your father's reaction... He just didn't care." Garp said somberly at the end, making her snort and shrug.

"That cow-gorilla can rot in hell for all I care! He is NOT my father!" Yamato replied coldly before she sighed.

"Say, is it true that you're dating Luffy of all people?" Garp asked Yamato who nodded, "Wow, you're the bravest woman I know. So, er, should I ask your father's..."

"NO!" Yamato yelled at the top of her lungs, which made Garp give her a thumbs up, Luffy laugh, and Zoro shrug.

"Good to know. Well, you do know about his legendary appetite?" Garp asked her and she nodded, "That's why I don't mind him being a pirate instead of a Marine..."

"That and the ones above you and Kong would Not be happy.. Even higher than the five..." Luffy replied, making Garp pale like a ghost. Luffy grabbed his shoulder and put his head on his Grandpa's side, "I know, because I am not from here, well, my body is, but I am not from now.." Luffy whispered in Garp's ear.

Amazingly, the old man immediately caught the meaning. While the entire concept of time travel was alien to most people in Paradise, much less those from the Blues, the New World's weirdness was on an entire another level to the point where anything, and yes, Anything, even alien races, was more than possible. Then again, the weirdness of the Grand Line in general was divided in two : Paradise, which had a few sky islands at the weirdest tied with Enies Lobby, and the New World where one of the weirdest islands were..

"Hold on, are you going to Little Garden?" Garp asked Luffy who nodded, "Bwahahahaha! Well, it's just a much less weird version of an island where no human, or humanoid for that matter, had ever set foot. However, there was an incident which involved one of its original fauna breaking from there all the way to Paradise two years ago.. Jinbe?"

The blue, whale shark fishmen stepped away from the steering rod of the Going Merry as he approached Garp cautiously. The taller of the two, which, amazingly, wasn't Garp, stroke his goatee in thoughts before he replied. "I heard about it in the last meeting of the Shichibukais, even Mihawk of all people was afraid of what would have escaped.. Even Shirohige himself of all people was wondering who's the idiot who poked the hornet's nest this time?" Luffy and Zoro especially eyes were now open wider than dinner plates, Yamato was kinda spooked by this.

"Oi, what happened to you two?" Yamato asked the captain and his first mate who exchanged looks and nodded at each other.

"Yamato, Jinbe, you two stay. Everyone else, please, get inside and do NOT even think of evasdropping!" Luffy said calmly, way too calmly. And before they can even protest, he barked, "Right about NOW!" If that burts of Haki wouldn't convince them, nothing could, as they dashed immediately to their own quarters as Luffy took a huge gulp of air to the point where he literally bloated, Laboon opted to just dive, to catch his food probably, seeing how smoothly he went underwater... Good. "The problem Yamato, is that these people are the heavyweights of the New World, and if those two agree in one thing, it means that we should probably stay as far away from wherever it was."

"What makes you think so, Luffy?" Yamato asked as Zoro sighed.

"Mihawk is Never afraid, from anything! Shirohige-ossan is much, much, much less fearful than Kaido of all people, the Kaido who took suicide as a hobby!" Zoro replied before he frowned even further than any time he did so, "That's not a problem, it's an emergency! Let's just hope that whatever that abomination is, we do Not run into it!"

"Or we can recruit it?" Jinbe asked and Yamato gave him a shocked look, Zoro facepalmed and Garp was now terrified, as for Luffy? The pirate grinned from ear to ear as his adventurous spirit was literally shinning in his eyes.

"Oh, that would be perfect!" Luffy replied only for his Grandpa to bonk him, a bit more gently than anytime...

"Nope! You cannot even do something so reckless! Think Luffy, think for once! What if it will... Kill you?" Garp replied a bit too worried and Luffy shrugged.

"If I die, I die!" Luffy replied calmly, "Well, then again, what if it is something smart, yet very misunderstood? I mean, I was told that fishmen are monsters, yet they're usually the kindest I ever met!" Jinbe looked away, "I heard that Onis and Minks eat human, turns out they're better than most humans, no greed nor hatred!" Yamato blushed crimson, "I was told that one of my Nakamas is a blood thirsty demon, yet he was simply an amazing warrior! Another was said as a coward and a liar, yet he's braver than most people I know. One was seen as a spoilt princess, and yet, she's stronger than anyone I know.. One was said that he's a failure, yet turns out he's the kindest man I ever met. The other is a thief and a traitor, yet she's one awesome person. One is a demon and the such, yet she's just a broken woman who lost Everything! The other that he's a pervert, yet he's a man with an unmatched resolve and manliness, the other is a skeleton who happens to be the best musician and most of all? He's the most honorable man to ever sail, as not even death was able to keep him from a promise... And finally? The last but not least? He's been called a monster, yet he's one amazing Doctor, and he Will know the cure to each and every sickness, and get rid of all that plagues this world!" Luffy finally calmed down as Zoro was barely keeping himself from crying his eyes out, not that he still have any tears left...

"Luffy..." Yamato whispered as Garp gave him a raised eyebrow.

"Only a total, absolute, undisputed idiot without any hope of getting any better, a complete morron, a hopeless schmuck would judge any book by its cover, unless, said cover is clear that the content is Uglier than any sin!" Luffy replied, "Race? Rumours? Why should I care about these?" Luffy stopped as Garp was now utterly shocked how his Grandson had.. Matured.

"Yamato, we all know what he meant..." Jinbe added, "Heh, well, at least he's one hell of a decent human being..."

"Sweet as he is, he's still a pirate!" Garp replied as Zoro snorted.

"How many slaves run into you and you hid them?" Zoro asked Garp as he gave him his first critical look, the old man sighed.

"Well, every hero that's worthy of respect, I try to Not fight them as much as possible.. I'm too far from being a hero, yet, I have no villainous regret." Garp replied before he sighed, "What my son is doing is wrong.. Like, very, very, very wrong..."

"If he dares and threaten Any of my Nakama, even you, I will Never forgive!" Luffy said as he was kinda napping... Well, half asleep.

"He's... Very protective of you, isn't he?" Garp asked Yamato who sighed exshasperately.

"Oh you have no idea..." Yamato replied as she tried not to remember the many times Luffy was almost dead to protect any of them.. "He's someone else..."

"Bwahahaha! I know! Well, good thing that he's a pirate then. At least for Once I meet someone who's a pirate in name only..." Garp replied as Luffy snorted.

"Let me tell you, that if anyone would even think that they can kidnap or harm his friends, he will Not show an atom of mercy!" Jinbe replied as Zoro shuddred.

"I don't Want to remember Jinbe! It was the most Gruesome sight I ever seen!" Zoro replied as Yamato sighed.

"Well, I hope that it would not come to that stage, don't you agree, Luffy?" Yamato asked the captain who was now snorring. "Oh you unsufferable goofball of..." Yamato twitched before she pinched his cheek, Nothing. She slapped him, still Nothing. "I give up!" She said before she sat down and laid Luffy on her lap, so his head was on her stomach, "He's kinda cute like this.." She whispered as Zoro rolled on the ground, almost laughing his ass off.

Jinbe was chuckling inside, and yet, he covered Garp's mouth, lest the Oni becomes... Well, as savage as her father. Well, her jealousy was proof enough that she doesn't tolerate anyone to be with her... Luffy.

"If you're going to say anything, whisper it!" Jinbe ordered the old man who sighed before he tried to remember exactly what he was about to...

"You know? If they'll have some children, I sincerely wish you the best of luck." Garp said in a knowing tone, "You see, the Only thing he took from his father is his laugh, apart from that? Everything in him reminds me of my youth..."

"And he's as dumb as you!" Zoro interjected, "I mean come on? Sometimes? With all the due respect? He choose something so reckless even I wonder if he did Ever care about us.."

"Oh? So, he did go to a sky island with the knock up stream? Bwahahaha! That's my Grandson!" Garp replied and Zoro was shocked by the entire thing that would happen later on.

"How did you.. Oh right!" Zoro facepalmed. At seventy six years of age, there's no doubts that Garp had tried many, many, many insane adventures of his own. Then again, he wondered a trillion times.. How the hell isn't Garp a pirate?

"I always wondered why you weren't an adventurer or a pirate, but that does explain a lot..." Jinbe added as he looked to the now napping Luffy on the lap of the Oni called Yamato. "Well?"

"Let's just say that I've seen the damages the failure and fake ones does.." Garp said as his eye darkened, "Besides, I allways follow the right path, no matter what it is.."

"Now it does make sense why you Don't want to become an Admiral..." Jinbe replied as he drank some of his sake, while Zoro did the same and Garp was gulping his second bottle of whiskey.

"Of course. Serve the scums? I'd say..." Garp said before he grinned, "I doubt that anyone who's decent enough would want to do so.."

"Hold on, so the reason why you defended those in God's Valley was..?" Jinbe asked and Garp's face contorted, "I see. Sorry."

"And I'm sorry if I couldn't help you out... Kami knows that I've seen The late Fisher Tiger as a true hero, and never wanted to interfere.. Then again, there are some pirates who are rightous as any decent person should..." Garp said as Jinbe smiled, "Well, make sure that my kid doesn't stray from the rightous path..."

"That he wouldn't..." Zoro replied as he sighed, "Well, he hates killing for a reason.."

"Bwahaha! I never thought that he would be a nice person, even as a pirate." Garp replied as Zoro smirked at him.

"Pray tell us of those who you find disgusting?" The old man gave him a questioning look before he realized, and grinned from ear to ear.

"I see... Well, be careful of Devil Fruit hunters, of privateers, of mercenaries... None of these guys are even close to being decent..." Garp replied as Zoro glanced at Jinbe who smirked at him.

"I know the lot of them..." Jinbe replied calmly, "Believe me, those are... Disgusting. From slavery, to killing the innocents, to murdering without a reason..." Zoro gripped his sword.

"By the way, who are those on the quarters?" Garp asked Zoro who's eyes widened, gripped his sword, and glared at Garp, Jinbe took a defensive stance, and they both agreed on one thing to do...

"LUFFY! They're in danger!" Zoro and Jinbe said in unison, and before Garp can comprehend, his Grandson was now fully awake as he kicked him with all of his might at a speed that Yamato was barely able to perceive, which.. Spooked the Oni.

"Jii-chan, if you do want to live to your next birthday..." Luffy whispered to Garp before he unleashed the father of all Haoshoku Haki's bursts, "DON'T TOUCH MY NAKAMA!"

Later

Luffy finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw how his Nakamas were getting along with Garp more than well. At least, his present ones, until they would meet a certain someone, probably. What did matters now was to just continue as he saw that Garp decided to do the right thing : Understand that Vivi's circumstances demanded his Grandson's interventiont. And so, it was past midnight as the sky was lit with thousands of stars, like a dark blue carpet with countless white dots, and in the Grand Line, especially Paradise where there were almost no night cloud when it would be clear, the view was amazing and just breath taking.

"I'm sorry if I can't do anything.. If only I was able to do something, anything... And Luffy? You better win, lest I will rip that sand crocodile to shreds and then piss over it..." Garp told Vivi before he told his Grandson his take, which was.. Well, a pretty warming thing to hear, and for the first time in forever, ever since he was eight, Luffy wrapped his arms around his Grandpa in a tight hug. Yamato wrote down that at that moment, in the first time since forever, since her mother was alive, she saw a man that would let you feel that all is right in the world.

AN: And that's a wrap for the very first filler chapter. I'm really sorry for Not updating in forever, but well, life happened... I decided to update at hope to remind you that this story is Alive! See you soon, hopefully? Until then? Please take care.
