The Granger Son

Chapter 11

Ever since meeting with the Temples, Harry had gone home every weekend to get to know them and have them get to know and learn about him. The arrangement worked out well, and the more Harry learned about his pseudo-parents and the Temples learned about their pseudo-son, the more they seemed like family. Even Jean and Robert considered Nora and Gregor a part of their family, extended anyway. They were glad that Professor McGonagall had introduced and chosen them. Harry liked them, and they liked them as well, having struck up a good friendship with them.

Things did seem to be moving rather fast as well for their learning curve, but considering the timeframe they had given by Hermione, it was prevalent things went quickly. Harry was also still taking his lessons with McGonagall just in case he ever had to rattle off something in Welsh for Dumbledore in the event he asked. As far as McGonagall was concerned, the boy was ready and fluent. He truly was a fast learner, and with Miss Granger being his sister and intelligent, it wasn't a surprise he was just as much. All in all, everyone hoped that this would be enough to help their ruse to fool Professor Dumbledore. And if so, it would be enough for the old man to leave Harry alone for good. Or at the very least, leave him alone for a long while. Still, Halloween, or All Hallow's Eve as Hermione had called it, was quickly coming. But everyone was preparing themselves, and soon the fated day of Dumbledore's visit was upon them.

The morning of Halloween in the Slytherin Boys Dormitory, Harry woke up at his usual time. It had taken him a while to get used to waking up in the Dungeons where there are no windows to indicate morning, but he and all the other Slytherins were always up on time regardless. Sitting up in his bed, he yawned and stretched a bit before reaching over for his glasses and putting them on over his eyes. No sooner had he done that, he hissed in pain and pressed his fingers against his forehead, right over his scar. His scar, it was burning a bit. It definitely hurt, but not enough to cause him a lot of pain or make him seek help. He rubbed it a bit to sooth the aching of his scar until it was enough that he felt he could ignore.

Draco, who had woken up few moments after Harry, sat up and rubbed a hand over his face tiredly before frowning at his friend. Seeing his slightly pained expression, he asked, "Are you alright, Harry?"

Nodding, Harry dropped his hand and answered, "Yeah, I'm okay. My scar hurt a bit, that's all. It doesn't hurt much anymore now, so I can just ignore it. You better get up, though. Don't want to be late, and Professor Snape will kill us if we are."

Knowing the bespectacled boy was right, Draco got out of bed along with Harry, and the two of them began getting ready for the day, their dormmates rousing from their slumbers and getting ready as well.

By dinnertime, everyone was being lively in the Great Hall enjoying their Halloween feast. Harry himself was enjoying his meal as well, really enjoying the roast chicken on his plate, all the while eyeing the pumpkin pie waiting for him to have for dessert. During dinner, he had looked up at the Head Table and noticed that Professor Dumbledore's seat in the middle of the table was empty. The Headmaster wasn't present, meaning he was gone to Wales to see the Temples. Harry looked at Professor McGonagall and the two of them shared a knowing look. Fingers crossed the ruse works, Harry thought.

Draco, who had been watching Harry for most of the day, took a sip of his Butterbeer before asking, "Are you alright, Harry?"

Harry blinked and looked at the blond before asking, "Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

"Well, because Halloween was the night that You-Know-Who attacked and killed your parents." He said this in a low voice so only Harry could hear.

Green eyes stared into grey before Harry looked back at his plate. "That probably explains why my scar was hurting a bit today, like a memory or something. I don't even remember my birth parents, so I don't feel…close to them. But in a way, I do feel kind of sad about it despite not remembering them. And I also know that they are looking out for me in the afterlife."

Draco nodded, understanding what his friend said. He still had his parents, so it wasn't like he didn't know what it was like to not have parents or be an orphan, but he also admired that Harry seemed strong enough to be alright without them.

Harry leant towards his friend and asked lowly, "Draco, can I tell you something?"

"Of course," Draco replied.

Leaning to whisper in his ear, Harry told him, "I haven't told anyone this and no one knows, but I know I can trust you not to tell. I'm actually adopted and have been since that night when my birth parents died. So, despite what occurred this night all those years ago with my birth parents, I have my adoptive ones and I'm loved, so I'm alright."

Draco was surprised to hear this and leant back from Harry to stare at him. He had no idea that his friend had been adopted, but he had said some things in the past that alluded to it if he just thought about it. That time when he told off Pansy defending Granger came to mind if he thought about it. He had said his 'birth mother', not 'mother'. He had thought that weird but left it alone. Now that he knew Harry was adopted, it made sense. Draco wanted to ask more questions, but he wasn't going to pry. It was his friend's business, and if he wanted to tell him more, he would in his own good time.

Looking around the table, Draco noticed a certain blonde head not present that usually sat next to Millicent. Frowning, he asked, "Where's Daphne?"

Blaise, who was sitting in front of Harry and Draco, reached to grab another roll to eat and answered, "She's with Hermione in the girl's bathroom on this floor. She's been crying and Daphne is comforting her."

"What's wrong with Hermione?" Harry asked concerned.

"Weasley. He said something to her earlier after classes and it made her cry. I'm not sure what he said, but she sure hexed him with painful boils in retaliation."

Harry looked over towards the Gryffindor Table and spotted Ron, noticing bright red spots on his skin where the boils had been, but were now healed. Draco had been looking at the Ravenclaw Table and said, "I'm just now noticing Granger isn't here."

Worried for his sister, Harry figured he'd go and check on her. He knew Daphne was with her, but he felt it was his duty as a brother to look out for her and check on her as well. Looking at the table full of food, he spotted a tower of Cauldron Cakes, thinking that would be something he could take to her to help her chin up. However, before he could reach for one, the doors to the Great Hall burst open and the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor Quirrell, ran in.

"TROLL! THERE IS A TROLL IN THE DUNGEONS! TROLL!" the usually stuttering man screamed as he ran towards the Head Table.

Silence filled the Great Hall after his entrance and outburst, only to be replaced by screaming and panic as Quirrell fainted to the floor. Students began to stand and run towards the exit, trying to get out of the Great Hall. With the pandemonium ensuing, Professor McGonagall stood up and pressed her wand to her throat, using the Sonorous Charm so she would be heard over the screaming.

"QUIET!" she called out, silencing everyone. As the students all turned to look at their Deputy Headmistress, she canceled the charm and spoke loudly in her normal voice. "Everyone, calm down and don't panic. I want all Prefects to lead everyone out of the Great Hall to their designated Common Rooms. Head Boy and Girl, make sure everyone complies."

With that said, everyone began leaving the Great Hall and following their Prefects to their Common Rooms. As Harry followed along, he suddenly stopped and grabbed both Draco and Blaise. Turning to look at him, Blaise asked, "What is it, Harry?"

"It's Hermione and Daphne. They don't know about the troll," Harry said. "We have to warn them!"

There was panic in Harry's eyes, the same feeling coming over Draco and Blaise. If their friends didn't know about the troll, then that put them in danger in case they encountered it. Moving through the mass of students, they ran down the corridor towards the girls bathroom in the hopes of reaching them and getting them to safety in time. However, as they turned the corner, the three boys skidded to s stop at seeing a large Mountain Troll trudge into the girls bathroom.

"Oh no," Draco said with wide eyes.

Harry's eyes widened before running towards the bathroom, Draco and Blaise behind him. "Hermione!"

In Wales, Gregor and Nora Temple were patiently waiting for Dumbledore to arrive. Their son Andrew was upstairs in his bedroom reading quietly. He knew what was going to happen as well, and his parents had informed him about information concerning Harry, just in case the Hogwarts Headmaster decided to ask him questions about his "brother". The extra bedroom next to Andrew's had been made up to be Harry's, to make it looked like he lived there. There was a bed and other furniture, pictures in the room and outside of it (downstairs included), books, toys, everything. They made sure to leave the bedroom, mostly clean, a few toys and books here and there to show Harry lived there. And in truth, it looked like he did.

Nora and Gregor had also been making sure their Occlumency shields were up and in place in their minds as to keep the old man from prying. They had thought about this some time after meeting Harry and had been practicing ever since. They were positive that even if Dumbledore tried, he wouldn't be able to discover that Harry had never been adopted by them and discover the truth.

A knock on the front door got their attention, alerting them to Dumbledore's arrival. Gregor looked at his wife and said, "It's showtime."

Nora smirked and nodded before moving to answer the front door. Opening it, she was greeted by the sight of Albus Dumbledore in rather gaudy blue and purple robes. Smiling politely, she greeted, "Professor Dumbledore, what a pleasant surprise. Please, come in."

"Thank you, Nora," Albus replied with a kind smile. He walked into the living room where Gregor was waiting, shaking his hand as he said, "Gregor, good to see you again."

"You as well, Albus," Gregor said with a smile.

"Would you like some tea or scones, Professor?" Nora asked.

Nodding, Dumbledore said, "Yes, thank you."

Nora went to get the already prepared scones and tea, brining it back for the old wizard to have. Handing it to him, he thanked her before taking a sip of the tea, pleased to find that it was Earl Grey. As he did, Gregor shared a look with Nora, silently agreeing it was time to feign ignorance about Dumbledore's visit. Looking back at him, Gregor asked, "So what brings you to visit us, Albus?"

"Is it Minerva? Is she alright?" Nora asked.

Shaking his head, Dumbledore put down his tea and scone on the coffee table and answered, "No, no, Minerva is doing quite well. Don't worry, Nora. You know if anything happened to her, I would tell you. I know how fond of her you are, after all. The reason I am here is because I want to speak with you both about your son. I understand that you adopted Harry Potter and wanted to speak with you about him, if that's alright."

He watched as the Temples looked at each other for a moment before looking back at him. Nodding, Nora said, "Of course. What would you like to know?"
