The Granger Son
Chapter 27
It was another day at Hogwarts, and another session of Potter's Army. There was nothing unusual about their secret session, all of them still doing what they had been doing for a while now. And yet, Hermione couldn't shake the feeling that today would change everything for them. And that feeling, it wasn't a good one.
Harry had everyone reviewing what they had already gone over, making sure that they had it down to a science and would be prepared to use any spell without struggling to do so. After all, it would be crucial should they ever find themselves face to face with a Death Eater or a Dark Wizard. Not only were they going over the material that they were already familiar with, they were still practicing the Patronus Charm. Everyone was still trying their hardest to produce a Patronus, and most everyone was able to produce at least a couple of wisps from their wand. But for a few of them, they were finally able to produce their own Patronuses. Along with Harry and Draco's stag and peacock Patronus, Hermoine was able to summon a Patronus in the shape of an otter, Ron Weasley a Jack Russel Terrier, Ginny Weasley a horse, and Luna Lovegood a hare. Daphne and Blaise, while still mostly producing wisps, were beginning to see what shape their Patronuses would take; Daphne believed hers to be some sort of bird, and Blaise a fox.
He let everyone practice for a few more minutes before Harry called for a pause in the meeting. Once everyone was giving him their undivided attention, he spoke saying, "Alright everyone, I know that we are still very much practicing, and it probably won't be long before we can't meet again due to O.W.L.s, N.E,W.T.s, and end of term exams. But I'd just like to start by saying that I am really impressed and proud of everyone's progress, no matter where you are with it."
Everyone clapped and cheered in response, knowing that they deserved the praise. They had started off that school year knowing absolutely nothing new from their Defense Against the Dark Arts classes, and now through their secret groups teaching and training, as well as the older students previous knowledge from years before, they were doing well for themselves despite it all. Harry nodded and waited until everyone quieted down before speaking again.
"That being said, I'd like to address some issues that I've noticed with some spells, charms, and curses we've practiced. I also want to give some tips to help you lot to fully produce your Patronus, whether you haven't done so yet or are about to."
With that, Harry began his explanations, pointing out the issues he was seeing with certain spells, going over the correct wand movements while Hermione and Draco helped with correct pronunciation. The members of P.A. followed along, those that were having trouble being able to do it better, or those that were nearly doing it correctly finally doing so. Moving on to the Patronus Charm, by the time they were all finished under Harry's instruction, with help from those that already produced their own Patronuses, most everyone was able to either produce incorporeal Patronuses. If not, they were able to get wisps to come from the tips of their wands. For those that were able to do that, there was excitement abound, seeing as they hadn't been able to produce anything at all. As for Daphne and Blaise, they were finally able to join their friends in making corporeal Patronuses. Like Blaise thought, his turned out to be a fox, the fox having slinked around Hermione's feet and rubbing against her legs before disappearing. As for Daphne, hers was a bird as she had thought, though the type of bird that was her Patronus was a swallow, the shape flying around her for a moment before disappearing.
Once that bit of practice under Harry's instruction was over, he told them that they would do some practice dueling and to choose a partner to duel with. As everyone was going about choosing their partners, Hermione took that moment to pull her brother aside to speak privately with him. Seeing the worried expression on his sister's face, he asked, "What's wrong, Hermione?"
Hermione stared at him for a moment before finally saying, "I just have a bad feeling about today, and I can't shake it no matter how much I try."
"Bad feeling? Like what?"
"Like…like something is going to happen and there's nothing to prevent it from happening."
The bespectacled wizard looked at the brunette for a moment before asking, "Do you think it has anything to do with your vision of Umbridge finding us?"
"Possibly. I wouldn't feel it so strongly if it didn't. Do you think…do you think today is the day?"
Before Harry could answer, a loud thump was heard. The sound traveled through the Room of Requirement, drawing everyone's attention to it. Not only that, when the thump was heard again, the room shook a bit this time. As it happened a third time, Blaise looked around asking, "What was that? What's going on?"
Draco frowned as the room shook again following another loud thump, the thump this time sounding more like a boom. Hearing what sounded like something crumbling to the ground, he looked at the wall where the entrance to the Room of Requirement usually was, and noticed a crack beginning to form. Another boom happened, and the crack grew bigger, pieces of the wall crumbling to the floor. Grey eyes widened as he said lowly, "Oh no."
Daphne, along with Draco and everyone else, watched as the wall crumbled away until a small hole was made, light from outside in the corridor beginning to filter in. Cautiously, she made her way to the hole, watching the small hole get slightly bigger. With a wave towards her, she beckoned her friend saying, "Hermione."
Though many probably wouldn't have picked up on it, her friends picked up on the nervousness in her voice. Biting her lip, Hermione joined the blonde witch by the wall, watching as more of the wall crumbled away and the hole got bigger. Once the hole was big enough to look through, Hermione cautiously peered through it, only to come face to face with Professor Umbridge. Umbridge grinned smugly at the little witch before saying, "Hello, Miss Granger."
Hermione gasped as Umbridge pointed her wand at the hole, telling someone one more blow to the wall should tear it down. Upon hearing that, Harry rushed and grabbed his sister, pulling her out of the way as Umbridge's voice spoke out, "Bombarda Maxima."
The wall to the Room of Requirement exploded, debris flying inward towards everyone side. Many of the older students of Potter's Army quickly cast Protego Charms, blocking the flying bits of stone wall, and protecting themselves and their fellow students. When the dust finally settled, everyone looked out to see who had discovered their secret whereabouts, and everyone's stomachs dropped. Along with Umbridge, the students could see Minister Fudge, Percy Weasley (his four siblings groaning and glaring at him), Kingsley Shacklebolt, and Mr. Filch. Speaking of Mr. Filch, he was holding tight to Marietta Edgecombe, the Ravenclaw sporting a very ashamed expression, the girl not being able to look at everyone. It didn't take Harry long to realize that it was Marietta that had revealed the Room of Requirement and the secret of Potter's Army.
Mr. Filch grinned evilly at them all before saying all too gleefully, "So many students to get in trouble, yes there is. I'm going to enjoy seeing some punishment."
The Granger siblings looked at each other, feelings of dread coming over them both. It seemed that Hermione's vision of them finally being caught had come to pass. And now, it seemed like they were about to face some serious repercussions.
Minerva was walking with her (not said aloud) favorite colleague and former student Severus Snape, the two of them discussing their classes and the students that they believed were standout and those that were giving them trouble. Though, for Severus, he had more troublesome students than stand out, if he had any at all. Minerva had told him that he knew both Mr. Malfoy and Miss Granger were star students in his Potions class, but he ignored her words, not wanting to confirm or deny that. The two of them were also discussing their mutual dislike for the pink toad that was Dolores Umbridge.
Speaking of Umbridge, the two professors noticed her coming along in all her pink, the woman marching like she was on a mission. That would have been nothing to them if it weren't for the posse following along behind her. Not only was she marching down the corridors, so was the Minister of Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Percy Weasley, and Mr. Filch. Held in Percy's grasp was Harry and Hermione, and in Mr. Filch's was Marietta Edgecombe. And above all, Dolores had a much too pleased look on her face. Getting a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, Minerva took notice that they looked like they were heading towards the Headmaster's Office, making the feeling only grow more intensely.
Severus, who had been watching the procession silently, let out a small grunt before murmuring, "It seems as though Mr. Potter's secret club has finally been found out."
Secret club? Dolores had been right about her charge doing secret activities under her nose. It made her wonder why Harry hadn't told her about whatever it was that he was doing. And better, why Severus knew about it before she did. Well, she supposed that it didn't matter why he didn't, but she wasn't about to allow for Harry and Hermione to get into trouble, not if she could help it. Excusing herself, she rushed to follow the group of people to Professor Dumbledore's office, hoping to possibly smooth over the situation as much as possible. And better yet, make sure the Granger siblings' wands didn't get snapped.
