Chapter II
Two months had passed since Reyna/Hestia's warning, four months closer to the Solstice. Staring at himself in his bathroom mirror in the morning, he kept losing focus. Even though he was a God, his old mortal body still required its old mortal needs and having promptly forgotten that, he had opted to stay up all night working out some Pre-Calculus homework he intended to turn in on time and not late, like his previous 20 assignments for other classes. He slowly blinked and rubbed his eyes, trying to get the sleep out of them. Looking up again, he nearly screamed. Standing in the mirror was a man that looked vaguely familiar. His messy black hair and trimmed beard flowed smoothly together, unlike his attire, which consisted of a tacky Hawaiian button-up and some khaki shorts, all tied together by the fisherman hat he wore on his head and the fishing rod that hung off his hip. He radiated power but seemed calm. The man gave him a warm smile, and then immediately, the scene shifted.
He was adorned now in silver armor. Shoulders covered in pauldrons layered with intricate wave designs with similar vambraces on each forearm. Clinging to his chest and body, leaving his right side bare, was a chiton made of dark blue and gold scales. A crown sat affixed to his head, protruding out in the middle of the forehead area was a pentadent with two sets of the points on either side of the middle one, which jutted up further than the rest, as a centerpiece. But what shocked Percy the most was the look of rage on the man's face and the golden liquid that dripped off of the trident he now held. As Percy continued to examine the man, he bellowed and slammed his trident down into the ground. The room began to shake as thunder rumbled outside, the roar of an oncoming wave built up to a deafening degree. Blinking rapidly and shutting his eyes in pain, he tried to expel the image from the mirror and the sounds around him. Looking back up, it had reverted back to normal, showing him his own confused and shocked expression. "What the…" he muttered, looking around at the bathroom, which was now deathly silent and completely mundane. A loud banging from the door jolted him out of his stupor.
"If you're gonna take all year in there, I might as well walk to school, asshole!" his sister shouted from the other side of the door.
"Damn it, ok, give me a minute!" he shouted back, rubbing the side of his head at the sudden migraine that had sprung up. He should've known staying in this form would cause issues. Opening the door and stepping out of the bathroom, he looked to his right, down into the living room where his sister stood impatiently, tapping her foot on the ground while scrolling through her phone.
"Finally, there you are, put enough makeup on, beauty queen? She greeted him with.
"Yea, yea whatever, Estelle," he grumbled, his mind still lost on what had just happened. He started down the hallway and out the door.
"Wait up, I forgot my coffee mug," she shot back into their apartment and he could hear her rummaging in the kitchen. "Go ahead and start the car," she yelled, the rummaging becoming slightly more intense.
'Girls and their coffee' he thought as he began down the hall once more. His mind wandering as he descended and went out the door.
"And don't you dare leave without me!" she added, once again causing his train of thought to crash and nearly lose his footing on the slippery stairway outside.
"Damn ice," he vented, swearing profusely as he held on for dear life to the side rail. Looking up he realized that his car was also covered in a layer of frost. "I wonder…" he muttered. He waved his hand and concentrated, the ice covering its exterior started to melt. He couldn't help the grin that broke across his face, but it quickly turned to shock as the ice and slight snow that had formed overnight all across the neighborhood and block started melting at an absurd rate 'shit shit shit shit' was the main thought running through his mind. "Must've overdone it, shit." he groaned out, looking down at his hands.
"Must've overdone what?" Estelle inquired, popping out of the door with her coffee mug now snuggled in her hands. "Woah didn't it snow last night?"
"Yeah guess it all melted overnight haha," he replied trying to hide his growing nerves, and shrugged.
"Well that's weird it was like negative a hundred degrees, hell it's still pretty cold…Oh well." she laid it off, and headed towards his car and got in. Percy let out a sigh of relief and got in as well. Revving the engine and adjusting his mirrors, he jumped in his seat and swirled his head behind him, he could've sworn he saw the reflection of the man sitting back there, covered in golden blood, a snarl plastered on his face.
"Dude, Percy, are you okay?" Estelle asked, turning her gaze from her phone onto him in confusion.
"Yeah, I just didn't get much sleep last night…" he muttered, glancing at the rearview mirror to make sure the man wasn't back there anymore.
"Alright then if you say so," she replied, glancing back at whatever had her interest on her screen "oh hey," she added, "Mind if I put some of my music on?"
A/N: And heres chapter 2! Slightly shorter but I'll try my best to keep the lengths above 1k at minimum for every chapter. So obviously there are some differences to Canon already! Olympus is now a couple of miles above the geographical center of the U.S, in Kansas. Why? Honestly thought it would be cool and wanted to spice my story up with some uniqueness. And here we have Estelle!! Not many fanfics with her older or even alive, so I said what the heck and aged her up to about 16, two years younger than Percy.Last bit here; The Gods may act just a bit different in this, not horribly OOC for the most part, except Apollo, I'm sticking to a more accurate mythos version of him being stoic and serious, but dont worry Hermes will make up for the lack of sunshine from the sun god. Stay tuned for more and remember to review and leave any questions or comments y'all may have!
