The next weekend they headed to Artazon with Ashley riding Miraidon, and headed to the gym, and after letting Chloe and Penny out, approached the gym staffer.
"Welcome to Artazon Gym," she said, "let me just register you three real quick. Your names are Chloe, Ashley, and Penny right?"
"That's us," they agreed.
"Great!" the staffer said. "Now in order to face Gym Leader Brassius, you'll first need to pass the Gym Test. Here at the Artazon Gym that means completing a game of Sunflora Hide-and-Seek! As you may know Artazon is a city of artists. The artwork made by the people here is largely inspired by nature and the sun that nurtures it. Since Sunflora embody these concepts, we try to gather them, and take good care of them! Your job today is to find the Sunflora located throughout Artazon. Remember-these pokemon look like sun shaped flowers! Gather up 10 of them and bring them to the Sunflora Lawn, and you pass the test. I'll register the Sunflora Lawn's location in your map app to get you started. When you leave the gym, turn right and you'll see two large Sunflora statues-head for those! Once you're at the lawn's entrance then staff there will tell you more about the Gym Test. Now get out there and have fun!"
Once there they met the staffer.
"Hi there! I look after the Artazon Gym's Sunflora," she explained. "I hope you're ready for the challenge. It's time for a game of Sunflora Hide-and-Seek! I'll go ahead and ask the Sunflora to spread themselves out around town!"
She then did just that and sent them out once the Sunflora had spread out around town.
The first three were ridiculously easy, being just outside the lawn. The rest were easy to find with Ashley and Penny's enhanced sense of smell, finding one underneath the nearby play area, one behind the gym, one by the stands near the pool, one by the vending machines near the pool, one playing a game further behind the vending machines, one across from the entrance of the gym that forced them to battle it and the final one under the circle building in the center.
"Well done on finding all those Sunflora!" the gym staffer said, "you pass the gym test with flying colors. Now please head back to the lobby at the Artazon Gym."
Once there the staffer there had recieved a notice from the staffer at the Sunflora Lawn.
"It seems you successfully gathered 10 Sunflora and brought them over to the Sunflora Lawn," she said, "that means you've cleared the Gym Test! Congratulations! You've now earned the right to challenge the gym leader. Best of luck! Are you ready to challenge Gym Leader Brassius, the Verdant Virtuoso?"
"Yes!" they answered, causing her to show them to the battle court where Brassius waited as Chloe went first.
"Greetings challenger!" Brassius said, jumping down from the windmill. "You did well to come this far! I am Brassius-an artist specializing in Grass-Type Pokémon. I am also the gym leader here at the Artazon Gym. Enough talk! We must begin creating our collaborative works of art! I trust you are ready? It is time for our masterpiece to take shape!"
With that he sent out Petilil, while Chloe used Skeledirge, who used Scorch Song to win.
"Was that the Uva Academy school song?" Ashley asked Penny.
"I think so," Penny agreed.
Next up was Smoliv who lost to the same attack.
"And this time it is the Paldea national anthem," Penny noted as the last Pokémon Sudowoodo was released.
"Allow me to touch this piece up slightly. I will call it… 'Truetreewoodo'" Brassius said, Terastallizing Sudowoodo into a grass type as Skeledirge used another Scorch Song.
"I don't recognize that one," Penny said.
"It is the Kanto national anthem," Ashley said, "Chloe must have taught him, since she is from Kanto."
Sudowoodo's sturdy ability let it survive and retaliate with Trailblaze, only to fall to the follow up Ember as Chloe won.
"Oh! What artistic tactics you employ! The patterns of your moves! The minute details to your Pokémon's performance! Everything you did was honed to perfection! Our battle was, in a word, art! Indeed, if we could not call that a work of artistry, then nothingelse in this world could be labeled as such! If I were to judge your work, I would say it passes my inspection. Yes-a pass without exception! As proof of your artistic prowess, you may have my Gym Badge! Shall we take a photo as well?" Brassius said, giving Chloe the badge and taking a selfie with her.
After he healed his Pokémon Ashley and Penny took their turns with Ashley using Ceruledge, while Penny used Flareon, while the others watched before they headed back to the academy.
