Next weekend they headed to Medali gym, this time with Ashley and Chloe in Penny's bag and talked to the gym staffer.
"Welcome to the Medali Gym!" He said. Let me register you as a challenger. Your name is Chloe, but I thought Penny and Ashley were Pokémon?"
"We are," they agreed, showing their true form before switching back to humans, "We figured out how to disguise ourselves."
"I see," the gym staffer said, "In that case Great! Now, in order to face Gym Leader Larry, you'll first need to pass the gym test. Here at the Medali gym that means ordering a special secret menu item! Specifically a menu item at the treasure eatery, a much loved restaurant here in Medali. Order correctly and you pass! Right now there are other challengers around town attempting this gym test. Each challenger has been given a different clue that'll help them discover the secret dish. You three will be given a single clue since you entered at the same time. Please find and battle the other challengers. The loser must tell the winner their clue! Your goal is to gather clues and use them to determine the secret dish, then order it from the waiter at Treasure Eatery. Answer correctly, and you pass. Your clients to find out how client's regulars season their dishes. I'd suggest youd start by hearing what a regular at the Treasure Eatery has to say! You can also guess without the clues if you think you know it already, but if you get it wrong you will have to try again another day."
"This will be easy," Chloe said, "my cooking teacher mentioned the restaurant in class and accidentally revealed the secret menu item we need. It's Grilled rice balls, Medium Sized, Extra Crisp Fire Blast Style with Lemon Garnish."
"That is easy," Penny agreed as they went and ordered and earned the right to face Gym Leader Larry.
"Hello," Larry said, "I'm Larry. I'm assigned to work as the Gym Leader of the Medali Gym. Good job on making your way through the gym test. "And, well… maybe try the other dishes on the menu too sometime. Everything's good here. Anyway my boss will dock my pay if I spend too much time chit chatting. Let's get these battle over with. Thank you for doing business with us today. I, Larry will be at your service."
Larry's first pokemon was Komala, followed by Dudunsparce and terastalized Staraptor, of course with Iron Valiant and their fighting type moves Ashley and Chloe had an easy win, while Penny's Eevelutions knew Double Kick and were easily given the win due to that.
"You're rather strong aren't you? Enough to bring out my poker face, even." Larry said, "I lost so that means I have to give you three a. Badge, but… that battle made me a bit hungry. Care to join me for a meal? The dishes here they've all got good flavor. Don't worry about the bill. I do make a salary after all."
With that they had a meal, Ashley and Penny's stomach engine easily turning it into fuel instantly while Chloe had to digest the hard way, before receiving the Badge and heading back to the academy, for their final classes and the final tests.
