The next day they went to the Champion Assessment, while the interview was strange to Ashley, who was already the Alolan Champion, but the questions were easy, and they easily passed, and got to fight the Elite 4. The first one was Rika.
"Now then, let's get this started, eh?" Rika said, "let good old Rika be the first of the Elite Four to take you on! I'd say I'd go easy on you, but… I'd be lying! Think fast!"
Rika's first pokemon was Whiscash, followed by Camerupt, then Donphan, then Dugtrio, and finally terastalized Clodsire, all were either weak or neutral to Grass Type attacks easily giving Ashley and Meowscarada the win, with Penny(and Leafeon) and Chloe using the type advantages of their pokemon this was followed by Poppy, and her Steel type pokemon, Copperajah, Corviknight, Magnezone, Bronzong, and Terastalized Tinkaton, who were dispatched by super effective attacks from both Iron Valiant and Flareon. Following that was Larry, the Medali Gym Leader, who was also the flying type elite four using Tropius, Staraptor, Altaria, Oricorio, and Terastalized Flamigo, who were easily defeated by taking advantage of super effective moves, like Meowscarada (Power Gem), Jolteon(electric types which at least had neutral power), and Chien-Pao(ice type attacks), could use. The final elite four was Hassel from the academy who used dragon types including Noivern, Dragalge, Flapple, Haxorus, and terastallized Baxcalibur, all easily defeated by Iron Valiant and Sylveon.
This led to facing Top Champion Geeta, also known as La Primera, on the roof top battle area.
"Welcome." Geeta said. "It gives me great joy that you've managed to make it all the way to the pinnacle of the Pokemon League. The final test is a battle against me, the Top Champion. To pass, all you need to do...is win. But before we get started I should apologize for one thing. You see I have a trait that some might say is inappropriate for the League Chairwoman...I am utterly incapable of holding back when it comes to pokemon battles. Maybe that's why nobody's passed thismtest recently. It's a bit of a problem to be honest. But you three...You might manage something wonderful, like Champion Nemona did. So are you ready for your final test? I want to see the true measure of your talent!"
"This is going to be fun." Ashley smirked feeling like she did when she became the Alolan Champion.
Geeta then sent out Espathra, who lost to Meowscarada's Nightslash. Next was Gogoat who lost to Meowscarada's Acrobatics next was Avalugg, who lost to Meowscarada's Brick Break, followed by Veluza who lost to Meowscarada's Flower Trick, followed by Kingambit who lost to Meowscarada's Brick Break, and finally Terastalized Glimmora who lost to Meowscarada's Flower Trick. On her turn Penny used, Umbreon, Flareon, Flareon, Leafeon, Flareon, and Vaporeon in that order while Chloe used Baxcalibur, Baxcalibur, Skeledirge, Pawmot, Skeledirge, and Chien-Pao (who knew fighting type attacks for the rock type Tera Glimmora)
"You go beyond my imagination so easily," Geeta said, "such overwhelming power… such amazing skill… It seems Paldea has gained 3 more wonderful trainers to be proud of. Congratulations, it's my honor to call you Champion Ashley, Champion Penny, and Champion Chloe."
"'Congratulations' is right! Now I can really saynyoure goodmto go!" Rika said having watched the battles.
"Yaaay! You three did it!" Poppy cheered.
"Congratulations," Larry said.
"J-j-just ABAAAZIIING! I gan't...I GAN'T HOLD ID IN ANYBOOORE!" Hassel cried.
"Oof, crying again?" Rika said.
"You pokemon trainers are the treasure of Paldea." Geeta said. "And amid that treasure, Champions are the jewels that shine brightest. Champions Ashley, Penny, and Chloe… It is now you're duty to set an example for all of the Trainers of Paldea. Now allow me to walk you back to the entrance."
Once there they were suprised to see Nemona run up.
"No way!" she said, "I just got an alert that there were three new champions so I come running, only to find you three. You refused to take the gym challenge when I asked you."
"We never refused to take the gym challenge," Ashley corrected. "We refused to drop out of the Contest course to do the general studies course. You can still take the gym challenge while in the contest course, but you kept pushing, acting like just because we were in the contest course that we were useless in battle."
"Well you are," Nemona complained. "The contest course doesn't teach you how to battle. Just how to make your Pokémon look good while pretending to battle."
"And yet they were easily able to win," Geeta said, "and Champion Ashley is right. In another region there is someone that is both a Champion and Top Coordinator."
"That's just a PR stunt. This most likely is too. I'll prove it we'll battle in Mesagoza where everyone can see how bad the contest course is." Nemona dismissed before they headed to Mesagoza where Ashley battled Nemona. Who used Lycanroc, Goodra, Pawmot, Dudunsparce, Orthworm, and Quaquaval who lost to Meowscarada's Flower Trick, Play Rough, Play Rough, Brick Break, Brick Break and Flower Trick respectively, even more humiliating for Nemona, all of them lost to a single hit, showing she was far weaker and actually making her run away crying.
Then after a good night's rest they headed to Zero Gate to meet with Arven and journey into Area Zero.
