When Ruansan niangheard Yao Hong mention Qi Yue An, her pretty face darkened instantaneously, filling her eyes with cold laughter.
"Don't mention him in front of me!
"What of showing me goodwill? This is basically the biggest humiliation to me! Do you think I'm unaware that he's buying my prompt-books without restraint to give it to his gang of scoundrels from all trades?"
Ruansan niangbecame more agitated with every word she spoke.
That damnable Qi Yue An actually dared to defile her prompt-book like this. None of his fox-like and dog-like friends were good things.
Owing to the suspicions she was harbouring in her heart, she kept her ears open to news regarding Qi Yue An in particular by gathering information from the noble daughters that were visiting her, as well as her fellow sister Shenxiaojieand Mu Qing Ci.
How could she possibly be unaware of what Qi Yue An had done? She could not forget the fact that Mu Qing Ling told her that Qi Yue An and her third older brother – who ate meat and vegetables without scruples – indulged in both men and women. As she continued to think about the broken things he had done, Ruansan niangfelt incomparably disgusted.
Why did Qi Yue An dote on her fourth sister so much in the past lifetime then? It was highly probable that Qi Yue An liked men even more, and solely favouring her fourth sister was just a cover-up while he had other men in the dark.
That was what Ruansan niangsurmised with a heart heavy with malice.
Yao Hong jumped in fright. She did not expect that her Young Lady would show such a huge reaction. From her perspective, wasn't Qier gongzimerely buying prompt-books and sending it to other people, why was her Young Lady so angry?
Afraid that her Young Lady would try to break off the engagement again, Yao Hong quickly put a few good words for Qier gongzi.
"Young Lady, while the rumours outside say that Qier gongziis without the learning or the skill, from hownubisees it, Qier gongziis quite good, and he regards yõu, his fiancée, with a great deal of importance."
Qi Yue An was without the learning or the skill, Qi Yue An regarded her with great importance?
Truly, that was a joke as big as the skies.
Ruansan nianglaughed coldly. In the previous lifetime, who was Qi Yue An, if not the person that had a meteoric rise in his bright official career? It was not like he was a changed person, right?
A changed person…
Ruansan niang's heart lurched. Was it possible that Qi Yue An had become a different person? She was an example herself. After all, she never heard that Qi Yue An liked powders and rouge that were meant for women in the previous lifetime.
It was not possible for a person to change so much, unless they were playing the pig to eat the tiger, but Qi Yue An's gaudy get-up with the smear of cosmetics from that day was on the opposite end of the spectrum from the lofty, handsome and high-spirited Qi Yue An in her memories…
Ruansan niang's head became bigger the longer she thought about it. Seeing that Yao Hong was still attempting to put a good word in for Qi Yue An, she sent all the servants in the room out, annoyed.
Hence, she stayed in the room alone, thinking her wild thoughts.
Yao Hong bit her lips after being chased out. It was becoming increasingly difficult to serve her Young Lady.
The marriage was arranged for next year. How great would it be if it was this year, then she would not have to live in constant fear and be on edge.

Ruan Xi did not know what Ruansan niangwas supplementing in her mind, nor was she aware that after 'make-up removal' incident back then, Ruansan niang's maidservant Yao Hao started having other feelings for Qi Yue An.
Currently, she was preparing for Wenlao-furen's birthday which was in a few days, and the matter of learning culinary skills was pushed back by Mama Yang for the time being.
Mama Lin even specifically raised the question of Wenlao-furen's interests and hobbies, and Ruan Xi promptly understood that she was going to officially meet and greet Wenlao-furenthe next time she went to the Junzhu Residence.
With the following month of learning and practice, Ruan Xi's etiquette and deportment improved at a rapid pace, and she looked like she had shed her mortal body and exchanged her bones.
The teacher that previously taught the original owner and Mama Lin were of two vastly different standards; as Ruan Xi learned more from Mama Lin, the impression that she and the original owner were inadequate only deepened.
It was no wonder that there was a common saying that the higher your position, the vaster your scenery was.
In her opinion, the original owner's standard was already amazing as it was, but that was only because she never came into contact with the fostering methods that the nobler clans employed.
Once Mama Lin stepped in, the original owner's excellence in every aspect of study became her foundation.
But Ruan Xi, as a person who did not even have a foundation, could only work hard and work even harder.
"Young Lady, yõu have already grasped the etiquette and deportment incredibly well, why do yõu have to continue practicing so painstakingly?" Su Yu said in distress as she helped her Young Lady massage her hands.
Su Zhu, who was massaging her Young Lady's shoulders with closed fists nodded in agreement as well. "Yes, yes, Wengongziwould probably feel distressed if he knew."
Only Mama Yang remained silent.
From her perspective, the etiquette training in the imperial palace was much more demanding, and she had lived through it. What did the Young Lady's small pains count for?
She and Mama Lin were the same. They could perceive that in terms of the Young Lady's temperament, she was lacking in that bit of noble air.
The noble air that they were referring to did not come from wearing gorgeous clothes and precious jewelleries which then imbued her with an air of riches and honour; rather, they were talking the temperament that would seep out through her discourse and bearing, the sort of innate noble air that could not be covered even if she was wearing coarse hemp clothing.
Fortunately, the Young Lady had an elegant disposition to begin with and her manners were gentle and refined, and she had a pervasive scholarly flavour that could make up for the deficiency. In addition to her breath-taking countenance, she was better than the average noble daughter.
After all, not all noble daughters possessed that type of noble temperament, apart from the imperial family's princesses andJunzhu. She had only seen the same traits in the carefully fostered legitimate daughters from prominent families. Even if their appearance was ordinary, the noble air that suffused their whole body were capable of making people sigh with emotion.
However, most men liked beauty… Mama Yang's gaze landed on Ruan Xi's visage.
The Fourth Young Lady did have a good appearance, and when she was standing together with Wengongzi, the gentleman was handsome and the lady was beautiful, they looked exceedingly compatible.
"Su Yu, Su Zhu, you don't understand."
Her days had always been like this, it was just that it was not as tiring as today.
Mama Lin had been teaching her the table etiquette of the imperial family today, and owing to the fact that she had to master it in a short span of time, she could only practice and correct herself ceaselessly. Wenlao-furenwas a Junzhu from the Imperial Family, and she was Wen Ting Zhou's fiancée, which meant that she would be under the attention of numerous noble wives. Feelings had never only concerned two people; she could not throw Wen Ting Zhou's face.
Mama Lin would only stay by her side for two years at most, or perhaps, it would be even shorter. Needless to say, Ruan Xi could not pass up this chance to learn.
Two days later, Mama Lin finally nodded in satisfaction. Not only was the Fourth Young Lady possess a strong learning ability, she was also sufficiently assiduous. She liked teaching such people the most.
"Fourth Young Lady, yõu have passed the lesson of table etiquette."
From the bottom of her heart, Ruan Xi thanked her, "It's all because Mama Lin's guidance is effective, one has troubled Mama Lin."
Mama Lin smiled slightly, "Fourth Young Lady's intelligence surpasses others and learns quickly. Do not slack off in the future."
Ruan Xi nodded with a serious expression.
"Please set your heart at ease, Mama Lin, I will not slack off."
For days following after, Ruan Xi's days continued to be busy and fulfilling.

The day before Wenlao-furen's longevity feast, the weather was good as always, with lovely spring sunshine and delightfully light winds.
Ruan Xi was taking the day off to recuperate her spirits when Ruansan niangsuddenly leaped and frisked about in front of her.
Ruan Xi: "……"
The physician said that Ruansan niangneeded two to three months of quiet recovery, but Ruansan niangproved to be even better since she could start jumping about in less than half a month. Fortunately, covering it up was easy, since they could use the pretext of an incorrect diagnosis.
It was just that Ruan Xi was rendered completely speechless by how big-hearted Ruansan niangwas, despite having lived three lives.
"Si mei, I heard that Wenfurensent you a set of jewellery that was crafted in the imperial palace which is of considerable value, can you like me see it? I don't have any remarkable pieces of jewellery in my hands, I'm afraid that I'll be throwing my face tomorrow."
This was what Ruansan niangcomplained in a grumble once she came over.
Ruan Xi's lips twitched. Judging from the meaning hidden in Ruansan niang's words, her legitimate mother Zhangshicouldn't possibly want to bring Ruansan niangto Wenlao-furen's longevity feast, right?
She knew that the Wen Family had sent an invitation over.Lao Taitaihad come down with a cold yesterday, and it was highly likely that she would not be able to go to the Junzhu Residence tomorrow.
Zhangshiwould be bringing her this time around, but she did not expect that she might be slinging along one Ruansan niang.
As Ruan Xi's thoughts came full circle, she poured some tea for Ruansan niang. Smiling, she asked, "Congratulatingsan jiefor her recovery, are you going to the Junzhu Residence tomorrow as well?"
She glossed past Ruansan niang's previous words in a pointed manner, not having the intention to take out the jewellery to let Ruansan niangadmire them.
How could Ruansan niangfail to discern her fourth sister's lack of intention? Anger swept past her heart as she called her fourth sister petty in secret.
When she thought about how she could attend Wenlao-furen's longevity banquet, however, Ruansan niangbecame pleased. She sat opposite of Ruan Xi without any prompting, picking up the teacup to sip the tea. She said smugly, "Indeed, my legs are fully recovered, Mother promised to bring me along."
She should be able to meet the Fourth Prince this time. Once she hugged the Fourth Prince's big golden thigh… Let's see if her scum father still dared to give her attitude!
It was just that there was no hope between the previous lifetime's Empress Dowager and the Fourth Prince, which meant that she had one less thick thigh to hug. Her thoughts turned, maybe she would become Mu Qing Ci's big thigh instead.
Ruansan niangfound the thought gratifying.
After amusing himself, Ruansan niangwas too lazy to keep up her grumbling so she expressed the main reason for her visit immediately.
"Si mei, I went to the Tranquil Longevity Hall just now, andLao Taitaisaid that her precious set of gold jewellery with inlaid rubies is in your hands. I want to borrow it and wear it as an accessory for a day."
Ruan Xi: "……"
She did not anticipate that their legitimate mother Zhangshiwould actually bring Ruansan niangto Wenlao-furen's longevity banquet. With Ruansan niang's penchant for creating trouble, what if she started something… Ruan Xi felt her scalp numb. What on earth was Zhangshithinking?
Even if she hated Ruansan niangfor supplanting her original daughter's body, she should not let her loose to stir trouble, because she would be throwing Earl Chengyi Residence's face in the end.
At the side, Su Yu and Su Zhu basically exploded in anger when they heard the Third Young Lady's unreasonable request.
When their Young Lady did not have any remarkable piece of jewellery or clothes that were in-season for the scarce few banquets she had to attend, their Young Lady had been worried that she would throw the Earl Residence's face so she could only ask the Third Young Lady to borrow some jewellery secretly, but the Third Young Lady had directly rejected their Young Lady.
And now the Third Young Lady was actually asking their Young Lady to borrow her jewellery in such a just and forceful tone.
Su Yu and Su Zhu were extremely enraged, vehemently wishing that their Young Lady could reject the Third Young Lady this instant.
"Si mei, Mother specifically asked me to borrow that set of jewellery from you, are you unwilling or something?
"Are you still begrudging me for those small altercations where I schemed against you, and you want to see me throw my face?"
When Ruansan niangsaw her fourth sister's momentary lack of response, her complexion became uglier, and she started to criticise Ruan Xi angrily.
"San jie, your words are going overboard. No matter what has been said, we're still sisters, we represent the face of the young ladies from Earl Chengyi Residence. Why would I watch you shame yourself with open eyes?
"I will lend you the jewellery. I only hope that you will remain content in your lot, and not cause trouble and squander yourself at Wenlao-furen's longevity feast."
"Si mei, what are you trying to say?" Ruansan niangslammed her teacup on the table with a loud thud, causing the tea to spill over and some droplets splashed onto Ruan Xi's jacket sleeve.
She was making it sound like she was always provoking trouble.
Ruan Xi glanced at Ruansan niangas she took out a handkerchief to dabble away the tea droplets on her sleeve. With a voice that measured in pace, she uttered, "You should understand my meaning."
She was refreshing her knowledge and experience indeed; she was trying to borrow something and yet she was still being so unbridled.
Upon seeing her fourth sister's attitude, Ruansan niangflew into a greater rage out of humiliation, and she could not resist bringing up old matters again. "Si mei, what kind of attitude are you striking? Don't forget that you managed to get engaged to Wengongzibecause of my contribution. If it were not for me, you wouldn't even know who you would marry, and you wouldn't be as well-off now."
This was one of things that Ruansan niangregretted doing after her rebirth.
Ruan Xi's gaze darkened slightly as she looked at Ruansan niangwith cold and indifferent eyes. This was already the third time that Ruansan nianghad brought up this matter. Was Ruansan niangunder the belief that she could bring up this matter for the rest of their lives or something?
The original owner had died because of Zhangshi, and if it were not the golden finger that she had upon her transmigration, it was highly likely that she would have been ruined by Zhangshi's infertility medicine.
And it was not possible that Ruansan niangwas unaware of the infertility medicine. Zhangshimust have told her since she could not hide it, or else she would not be made to regurgitate.
Furthermore, the original owner's nursemaid Mama Xu had been killed by the people that Zhangshidispatched. Wen Ting Zhou had already investigated the truth in the past two days. It was just that Mama Xu had signed a slave contract and she belonged to the ranks of Earl Chengyi Residence's slave-servants, and all that was required was a casual and arbitrary accusation for the current matriarch to control her servant's life and death. Hence, she could only swallow this anger for the time being.
Apart from the main culprit Zhangshiwho bore much of the blame, Ruansan niang's 'contribution' could not go unnoticed.
Ruansan niangcould not be bothered to wrangle with Ruansan niangagain, to say nothing of the accusation that she was biting the hand that fed her. There would be no end in sight if she continued to tangle with her, so she turned her head to look at Su Yu. "Su Yu, bring over the gem-inlaid jewellery thatLao Taitaigave."
"Yes, Young Lady."
Full of reluctance, Su Yu went into the room to bring out the wooden case containing the jewellery.
"San jie, this is the set of jewellery given byLao Taitai. You can look it over, I'm going to take an afternoon nap in a short while, I won't detainsan jiehere."
After saying that, Ruan Xi gestured for Su Yu to open the jewellery's wooden case. Still disgruntled, Su Yu opened the wooden case in front of everyone, and the set of exquisite and precious jewellery inlaid with gems entered their eyes.
Ruansan nianghad seen her fair share of jewellery that was crafted in the imperial palace during her past lifetime and she held this set of jewellery in contempt. Hence, she did not conceal the distaste in her eyes.
Forget it, there were no fishes but prawns were good enough; she would make do with it first.
Who told her to be a mere legitimate daughter from a small Earl Residence right now? She was no longer the divine doctor being chased by everyone. It was so frustrating, when could she have the same grand scenery again like in her previous lifetime?
Did she have to wait for Emperor Shengde to collapse?
Wouldn't that mean she had to wait for ten years?
No, that was not right. She remembered that after the special metropolitan civil service examination this time around, Emperor Shengde had fallen ill. According to the imperial physicians, if it were not for her efforts, Emperor Shengde could only subsist his life by using precious medicinal herbs for two years at most. He would not have lived for so long.
Once Ruansan niangremembered that, she suddenly felt like everything in front of her was bright.
She kept the wooden case happily. In an exuberant mood, she threw down a line, "Si mei, I will return the jewellery to you the day after tomorrow, I won't disturb your afternoon nap."
In any case, this jewellery set was not of superb quality. After tomorrow, she would not value it as something rare either. After Ruansan niangsaid those words, she left without turning her head back once.
Ruan Xi was visibly perplexed. Ruansan niangwas clearly holding the jewellery in harsh contempt when she saw it just now. But for reasons unknown to her, she suddenly became happy again.

I always wonder why didnt ruan san niang in her rebirth asked her mother to find a good doctor to be her teacher, afterall people got suspicious of her because her lack of basic medical knowledge ??? I mean that way she could still use her golden finger sparingly (altho not to the full extent)

she did, well the original did at least, but she didnt learn actual medical practice in a sense, she learnt pharmacotherapy from her mother, which is treatment using medications, aka why they had a infertility medication that was untraceable by the physician
not to mention the fact that RSN would consider studying and practicing medicine in the "typical" way to be a waste of time, regardless of how it would help her hide her ability. also even if she did, it wouldnt really help her that much, in the end, as regardless of how she uses it, it would br noticeable, and if she doesnt then whats even the point
