Welcome back, everyone! Please keep in mind this story progresses but stays true to the characters. Some aspects of the Force and Dyads will be stretched to fit the tone of the story, but this is fiction, after all so...
Thank you everyone who reviewed or favorited or followed this story!
I posted the second chapter very shortly after the first but this won't be a recurring event, I spend a lot of time revising and making sure storylines match up to the next few chapters. But this chapter is going to include a bit more story progression and setting.
DISCLAIM : I don't own Star Wars.
Please Enjoy.
Chapter 2: Cooperate
. . .
The flight was long, and she had slept for most of it.
The cot in her cell was more than uncomfortable, one could hardly call it a cot at all. Rey would have slept in the sand than sleep in this small cell, which was less than half the size of her dining area. Her dining area... All of her belongings, her plants and memories, would they all be stolen away while she was gone?
Would someone find my speeder by the Destroyer? Maybe notice that I'm missing? Surely Plutt would have figured it out by my absence at work... Surely, she thought, Surely someone will notice I'm gone? Someone will care enough?
To her side, the small window allowed in light from the stars. She looked out the small hole, desperate to find some form of direction as to where they were headed, even though, ultimately, she had a general idea. From the cockpit, a loud snoring ruptured the silence of their flight.
She glanced up, taking a look into the captains chairs, to see the one stormtrooper's head rested on his side, sound asleep. The other trooper guiding the ship's pace steadily, it was the kinder of the two, he was much leaner than the other trooper.
He heard the rustle of her cuffs and turned to look at her, but only for a glance before turning back to his direction. "You awake?" He asked, more genuinely than demanding.
"Where are you taking me?" She asked again, desperate this time, "How can you do this if I've done nothing wrong?"
The trooper sighed, taking in the quiet beeps from his ship, and checking on his comrade to his right, "I can't tell you that," He said, "But I can tell you it might be better than where you were."
"Then please," She begged, "Why are you doing this?"
He took another look at his partner, as if double checking to make sure he was asleep, "You seem nice," He spoke lightly, "Too nice for a place like Jakku..."
"Yeah? Well, you seem human," She retorted, "Too human to be a stormtrooper, that's for sure..." She heard him snort before she continued, "Jakku is my home, I've lived on my own since I was a child."
"No family?"
"No," She replied solemnly. "My parents left me there when I was a child, just hope they don't come back when I'm gone."
She could tell the Stormtrooper was listening, he truly was more human than the rest, "I'm sorry, but why aren't you out there looking for 'em then?" He asked, genuinely interested. For a moment, Rey believed he had forgotten she was a prisoner.
"I thought about it, but I don't even know where I'd start... This is the first time I've been away from home in... Well, ever... So maybe you can finally tell me what's going on."
His arm reached above his head, pressing a few buttons, Rey was unsure of their purpose, but he removed his hands from the control helm, and faced her head on. Rey had nearly forgotten how menacing their helmets seemed, but the man sounded so sincere in his voice, "Tell you the truth; I have no idea. We were given orders this morning to search Niima Outpost on Jakku, find a girl, and bring her back. There aren't really a lot of human girls on Jakku, and your boss-guy didn't seem like he wanted a lot of trouble..."
She shook her head upon this, wrapping her head around the information she had been given, her tone sharpened "Plutt sold me out?" Betrayal struck her heart, and any last optimistic hope she had for him was surely out the small keyhole. "Who gave you the order?"
"Kylo Ren," He stated quietly, as if purposefully trying to not say it at all.
"What?" She whispered, beyond disbelief of what this man had been saying. Through her rapid blinks, she had realized she was crying again, and the stormtrooper saw this. "I swear, I haven't done anything..." She whimpered, letting out a short sob as she wiped her tears. Rey begged for this to be a dream, a nightmare, just moments away from waking up in her hammock again.
"I'm..." He said blankly, "I'm sorry... But it's done now... Best to just... cooperate..."
The tears came streaming down her face, she imagined her changed life in the hands of the First Order, succumbing to their every whim, made use for the enemy... The ones she had always fought against, the oppressors she would always face down, now swallowing her whole... Everything she stood for her entire life, now useless...
Rey leaned back against the cot, her current state sending her thoughts into spirals. Kidnapping wasn't an uncommon phenomenon, especially on Jakku, but bartering and slavery were more common than abduction in plain sight.
"You know," She stated, verbally summoning the stormtrooper's attention, "I actually wouldn't mind having a disease right now... Maybe it'd get me off the hook here."
He seemed to like that joke, and he let out a small chuckle and stated, "Maybe, I'm sorry for assuming that."
She looked at the side of his shining helmet, their ship seemed to pass a sun and reflect a glowing light off the both of them, "Are you even supposed to talk to me like this? I thought all stormtroopers were greedy, crooked soldiers who worked for credit."
"Well," He spoke lightly, "I figure we're almost there, and we might not ever see each other again. What's your name?"
"Rey," She answered proudly, "You?"
The Stormtrooper paused, unfamiliar with this request, "FN-2187."
"That's not a name," she corrected.
"Stormtroopers don't have names, just numbers."
"Oh, I see."
"You didn't know that?"
"Stormtroopers don't usually come to Jakku, they only do when there's someone on the run, Jakku has a lot of good places to hide. Have you ever been besides today?"
"Two nights ago, actually... Didn't stay too long..."
"I see..." She noticed how silenced he became after this, seemed like he didn't have much to say on the subject. Rey backed off, not wanting to press him on any further, although she certainly enjoyed this company, no matter how dire this situation seemed. She found someone to at least call an acquaintance.
"We'll be there soon," He broke the silence, "How you doin'?"
"Honestly," She said, seeing no point in lying anymore, it's not like her feelings truly mattered anyway, "I'm terrified." She said upbeatly, "I have no idea what's going on or why this is happening or what the outcome will be... I guess it is a little exciting though, I've never seen this side of the galaxy..."
"I like your attitude, you're gonna need it. The Finalizer is up ahead." FN's finger reached for a button, pressing it generously, radio static filled the ship's interior, waking the sleeping stormtrooper with a jolt, "This is FN-2187 in Cruiser 491, requesting permission to board The Finalizer, coming up on your left, over."
Static came through again, the other trooper stirred in his seat. "Copy that, 491. Go for board." A female voice projected through, "Prepare cargo for transit in the landing station. We'll take it from there, over and out."
"Roger that."
The ship ahead was massive, more than massive, mountainous. It was indeed the biggest ship Rey had ever seen, she was certain it was the size of a planet, maybe even bigger. It was both terrifying and mesmerizing.
Her mouth gaped open as they drew nearer, the ship grew larger. Her heart began to throb, all excitement she held for this journey now slipped away as she stared upon the ship, looking upon her doomed fate. "I never knew ships could be this big..." She stated, unable to remove her eyes from the overawing ship.
"Quiet back there," The awakened stormtrooper silenced her, their ship began to rumble as it turned into the landing zone. The blue, electric veil before them opened, revealing a neatly organized hanger, filled with flightcrafts, storm troopers, and generals alike.
Their ships's wings lifted into the air, and Rey felt the vibrations from their jet propellers as the craft slowly descended to the landing zone. Rey heard seatbelts unbuckle, but she could not take her eyes away from the wandering group of stormtroopers that approached their ship, lead by their leader in a spotless uniform.
The man leading the rally of troopers wore a dark grey uniform, his hands seemed to be held tightly behind his back, as he faced the opening bottom of their ship. FN-2187's light feet were coming towards her cell, he unlocked the door swiftly and took hold of her arm, "Don't resist." He whispered.
The two troopers led her down a descending platform, which led her to the hanger outside, eyes from every direction seemed to fall upon her, including the deathly stare from the groomed gentleman before her.
"Major Falnet," The harsh trooper called, taking Rey a bit too harshly for her liking by her arm, "Cargo secured."
"We'll take her from here," The old man replied coldly, looking upon her with uneasy eyes, "Get one of the cadets to scrub down the cell as well."
"Yes sir," The trooper replied, relinquishing Rey. She wanted to turn back to FN, give him a smile or a wink, or even a glance to show her appreciation to his kindness, but there was no time for this. The risk of sending her new acquaintance into trouble was almost heartbreaking... So she remained silent.
"Come here, girl," The man inquired, gesturing her with his hand.
Do I have a choice? She thought, scanning him carefully. His hand waved delightfully into the air, but his smile and stature said otherwise. Although Rey had been covered in sand, and other kinds of earthy residue, she had always tried to make herself somewhat pleasant, even though she cared less about the way she looked. She knew underneath it all, she could be called attractive by some, which is why she took extra precautions to not let anyone see this, exposing herself to much would leave her out in the open. This man saw through all of those insecurities.
Reluctantly, she submitted.
Stepping forward, the old man placed his hand upon her shoulder delicately, she knew in that moment he was trying to feel the skin under her cloth. She ignored this, fighting the urge to cry with every muscle in her body, her cheeks tried to turn red with fear, but she condemned it quickly.
Never.
These men will never see me cry...
Please tell me your thoughts and review as honestly as possible. No Star Wars FanFiction is perfect, unless it's written, sealed, signed, and kissed by George Lucas himself, but I hope this makes at least 1 person happy.
