A/N
Thanks for all of the followers and everyone that decided to read the first chapter of my story! I hope you enjoy what I have planned for this story, I plan on getting an update in for the story at least once a week, job permitting. If you have any suggestions for abilities you would like to see Percy receive in the story, feel free to leave it in the reviews!
I may consider adding another person to the pairing, but if I do I want to keep it at 3 max, so only one will be added. May put up a poll later.
I own nothing, Percy Jackson is owned by Rick Riordan!
Chapter 2
How Percy loved the weekend. No classes, no stress, just get to rest and relax, and the best part is that he can sleep in well past 7 AM. As Percy stirred from his sleep, he yawned and stretched out, popping his back and enjoying sleeping in for the morning. He couldn't hear any signs of life from Grover's bed, so he assumed that he must be out and about already.
Percy opened his eyes, and gave out a girlish yelp that he would deny to anyone if asked. For floating in front of his face was a greenish screen with a simple message – "Welcome Perseus Jackson".
Percy did nothing but stare at the screen for the next 5 minutes, wondering if someone drugged him last night and he was just suffering a bad trip. He rubbed his eyes, but the screen was still lazily floating in front of his face, designs around the borders that reminded him of those pots that Mr. Brunner had in his classroom from his trip to Greece.
Hesitantly, he reached his hand forwards to touch the screen, but as he reached it, his hand phased right through as if nothing was there. He kept trying to dispel the screen to no avail, and eventually gave up, wondering what was happening to him.
Suddenly, the message closed and another one took its place, opening up what looked like a video game stat sheet about a character.

What was all this? It reminded him of all of those games that his friend Mike would play down the hall, and it looked like a character sheet you would create before starting a new game. After all, it had EXP, HP, a level indicator, and a character description.
Heck, it even had what seemed to be attributes if he could guess what the three letter words were. After all, they did look quite similar to those D&D sheets that his friend Mike would sometimes play with. If he wasn't mistaken, STR was Strength, VIT was Vitality, WIS was Wisdom, INT was Intelligence, DEX was Dexterity, CHA was Charisma, and LUC was Luck.
"Wait a minute." Percy muttered, what was that at the top of the screen. Cast in a soft green glow was his name above the character sheet. Percy couldn't believe it, this was him! And his stats were just awful! How does he only have a 2 in WIS and INT? Sure he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he was still passing all of his classes! That had to count for something, right? And what does it mean that it doesn't know his race, last time he checked he was a human!
Now Percy was starting to freak out. What was going on, why was this happening to him? Sure he wished for a little more excitement from the boring classes at Yancy Academy but he wasn't expecting whatever this was!
Suddenly, an overwhelming sense of ease flooded through Percy's mind, calming down his breathing and clearing his mind for thinking. Suddenly, he hears a ping noise and sees a notification pop up.
Ping!
Gamer's Mind Activated! (click for more information)
Percy touched his hand to the notification box, which promptly closed and opened a new one.
Gamer's Mind – This skill allows the user to calm their mind and think through a situation more logically, allowing the user to never be overwhelmed with information. This skill is constantly active.
Well that is useful. Percy still had no clue what was going on, but at least with this new ability active he was able to think about things without freaking out again. He knew he had to figure out what was going on, and since it seemed that the screen was so similar to his friend Mike's games, he figured that Mike might be able to tell him more about what this was.
On cue, a notification popped up in front of Percy's face.

Well, figuring what this out was going to be the first thing he did today, how nice of it to tell me to do so. At least it confirms that this was indeed similar to those video games that Mike plays, so he was definitely on the right track.
With a new purpose, Percy hops out of bed and rushes to get dressed. As he was getting dressed, he thought back to how the system seemed to automatically assign him a quest based off of what he was thinking at the time. Was this how the system would try to point him in the right direction, was it reading his mind and issuing quests to him based off of things he probably should do or wanted to do?
Ping!
For thinking logically about how the system works and coming to a sound conclusion, you have gained +1 WIS.
Nice, so he was on the right track, and that is certainly a good bonus just for thinking logically about things. He finished dressing up and walked out into the hall to head to Mike's room. As he approached, he could hear the tell tale signs of Mike playing games inside. Knocking on the door and hearing an affirmation to come in, Percy walks into Mike's room.
Posters line the walls of various classic games and it is a bit messy in the room itself and it doesn't seem like Mike took too much time to organize everything. He could see Mike was playing a new game that had just released, something called Oblivion.
Mike paused the game and looked up at Percy. "Oh hey Percy, what's up man."
"Not much, I was just curious about video games and thought you would be the best guy to ask. I recently, uh, 'acquired' a new game and I do not know how it works. I've seen the character screen and gotten a quest, but I don't really know much about what to do from there."
"Oh ok, do you mind telling me what the stats are?"
"Oh sure, my guy has a 5 in STR, 4 in VIT, 3 in WIS and INT, 5 in DEX, 4 in CHA, and 0 in LUC."
"Wow, those stats are garbage man, you need to start training that guy up ASAP or he isn't going to last very long."
"That's the thing, I really don't have a clue on what I need to do to train up his stats, do you have any tips for me?"
Mark put his hand to his chin, "Well it sounds like you have an RPG game on your hands, so you should be issued a bunch of quests that will allow you to level up by gaining EXP, which should give you skill points to increase your attributes as well as increase your health and other physical attributes."
Mark gestured to his game, "For instance, the game I am playing now works in that sense, however leveling up will not directly level your attributes and will only give you skill points, increase HP, Magica, and stamina. You have to train your attributes separately in order to raise them. You could try doing physical activity to increase your STR and VIT, talking to people and haggling to increase CHA, perhaps if the game has books you could read them or make certain decisions to increase in INT or WIS, and for DEX most likely fighting or doing acrobatics."
"What about LUC?" Percy asked.
"That one is a little tougher, there isn't a lot of things you could do that would directly increase your LUC. The only thing I could possibly think of is if there is a gambling minigame built in that you could play." Mark responded.
"Mark, you said something about magica, would that be MP?"
"Hmm, that sounds more like it would be mana points, it would fit into the system you are describing a little bit more."
Percy was pretty sure he had all he needed now, that the system was indeed strikingly similar to a video game and that he could train his attributes like that of a game.
"Well thanks Mark, you've been really helpful. See you later!" Percy said.
"No problem Perce, anytime, maybe let me get a crack at that game once you're done with it!" Percy walked out of Mark's room, having more information about what to expect from the system than when he entered.

Percy smiled at that, having completed his first quest felt a little nice. Now that he had an idea of what he needed to do to train himself, Percy decided that he needed to incorporate a training regimen to boost his stats so he wasn't as pitiful.
The best place to start would be to try and level up his abysmal INT and WIS skills, and he knew just the place to start. Percy walked out onto campus and made a beeline for the one place he had never visited before: the library. Percy figured if he could gain INT anywhere, it would be there.
After greeting the librarian, Percy walked over to the English section and picked out Macbeth since they were already reading it in English class. Opening it up, he was greeted to a wonderful jumble of utterly incomprehensible words, just like always. Staring harder at the book didn't seem to help, and Percy figured that he would never level his INT stat due to his Dyslexia.

Level 1 (5%): You are currently barely able to read any form of English (-90% to understanding of English, +5% for every level gained)
This was huge. Just by reading a little bit of Macbeth he was able to create a skill for English, and as it seems would be able to increase his ability to read the more he trained it. Would this be able to circumvent his dyslexia, and would it make learning any language easier the more he read as well?
Ping!
For figuring out a way to abuse the system to your advantage, you have earned +1 to WIS.
That seemed to confirm it, and percy got giddy at the possibilities. Finally, a way to get rid of his dang dyslexia! He set to work, feverishly reading the book in a vain attempt to understand at his current level. Ignoring any notifications from his system, he kept reading until he finally noticed that the book had slowly become more legible, and he was able to understand a little bit more of the book. Looking up, he thought about pulling up his notifications screen, and suddenly it popped into existence in front of him with multiple notifications awaiting his view.

Only 2 levels? He had been reading for hours! As he was contemplating why his progress was moving so slow, he noticed that the description for the Modern English skill had changed to reflect a grade level. Perhaps he was reading at too high a level at the moment, after all not many second graders are walking around reading Macbeth.
Seriously, though, second grade reading level? That is just insulting, sure his dyslexia made it so that he couldn't really read, but he was sure he could at least read a bit. Thinking it over, he decided to swallow his pride and move to the second grade section of the library. After all, there isn't use in practicing a skill if you aren't doing it the most efficient way.
Ping!
For realizing a game mechanic and making a smart decision, you have gained +1 to WIS.
Reaffirming his choice, Percy placed Macbeth back and moved to the second grade section. Percy decided that he should probably set a goal for himself today, so he decided that he wanted to get Modern English leveled up to at least a grade 6 reading level to more accurately reflect his current age.

Percy laid back in his chair, he was finally able to read at an acceptable reading level. He couldn't help a smile from breaking out on his face, he never thought he would see the day where he would actually be able to read a book. Perhaps now he can turn his grades around and make his mother proud.
He decided that was enough reading for today, after all he did not want to only level up a single attribute! He decided his next step should be to start running, as Mike said that may be able to help level his VIT and DEX stats. Arriving back at his room, he changed into a pair of gym shorts and a t-shirt, and set out to do a couple laps around Yancy.
After doing a couple laps around the school, Percy was utterly exhausted. Falling to the ground and huffing, Percy really regretted not working out more in Gym class. How was he this out of shape? Shaking these thought out of his head, Percy pulled up his notification screen.

Due to continuous exercise, you have gained +1 VIT and +1 DEX
Neat, so Mike was right in that physical exercise like running would increase his DEX and VIT stats. Percy assumed that if he were to start lifting weights, he would increase his STR stat as well. Deciding to cool off, Percy walked over to the school's pool to swim around for a bit.
Percy had always liked water, but he loved the ocean. He just seemed to feel so at home whenever he was near a source of water, it is what he loved so much about taking trips with his mother to the family cabin at Montauk Beach.
He changes into a swimsuit and jumps into the water, instantly feeling refreshed from his run. However as soon as he jumps in, he hears a ping and checks his notification screen.
You have come into contact with water, and due to your heritage receive a boost in your attributes! You are now able to breathe underwater!
HP and MP have been restored completely, all status effects are negated, and your body has been healed completely!
+3000 HP
+3000 MP
+20 STR
+20 DEX
+20 VIT
What. The. Hell. That is a ridiculously powerful buff for just coming into contact with water, and did it say he could breathe underwater now!
Deciding to test it out, Percy holds his breath and swims to the bottom of the pool. He was either about to do something really cool, or seriously stupid, but he decided to trust the game system and breathe in.
When he took the first breath, he was fully expecting to start choking on the water around him, but he found he could indeed breathe underwater! It felt a little bit like breathing air, but much heavier and more…natural somehow. He was utterly amazed, how was this even possible.
Recalling what the system told him, it said that due to his heritage he was able to do this. He certainly doesn't get this from his mom, as he hasn't seen her do anything like this before, but perhaps it is from his dad? Is this why it has a question mark by race, because his dad may not be fully human? If he wasn't human, then what could he be?
Suddenly, Percy heard a notification pop up.

Whoa, what, does that say death as a consequence of failure? Why would he die if he doesn't find out who his father is? The rewards are great but should he really risk his death for it?
Percy then noticed that the option to decline the quest was greyed out, so he could only choose to accept the quest. Percy was gobsmacked, he had no choice! He sighed, and clicked accept on the quest. He needs to devote time to this issue then, he doesn't want to not find out in time and die, especially since he only had a week.
Percy decided to take his mind off of the grim idea of his possible death by swimming a bit in the pool, soon hearing another notification.
Ping!
You have learned a new skill through continuous use!
Swimming:
Level MAX: You are currently able to swim at the speed greater than an Olympic swimmer at 15 mph
Where did that come from, Percy had never had a skill show up that was automatically maxed out! Perhaps this is another clue to his heritage, like being able to breathe underwater. He decided to file this information away for later, and got out of the pool to head back to his dorm. On his way to the dorms, Percy ran into Grover.
"Yo Perce, where've you been all day man? I woke up a little early today so I left the dorm, but I haven't seen you since. You good?" Grover's a good guy, we always look
"Yeah I'm fine G-man, actually I was at the library for most of the day and was getting a little exercise in, hope I didn't worry you."
Grover stopped, eyes bulging out of his head and a shocked look on his face as he stared at Percy.
"Woah, you sure you're good man? I can take you to the nurse if need be, I've never seen you in the library before! I thought you avoided that place like the plague because of your dyslexia?"
"Yeah, I thought that I should probably star working a little more towards learning, y'know? Just because I have dyslexia doesn't mean I should give up completely. I've actually gotten a little bit better with my reading now, hopefully I will be able to improve my grades."
Grover studied Percy for a moment, and then smiled at his friend. He was happy that Percy was finally putting a little bit of work into his studies and applying himself more.
"Good for you man." He replied with a grin on his face. Percy grinned back at his friend, and together they headed back to their dorm. As Percy was getting ready for bed, he decided to check his stat sheet one more time to see what he still needed to improve in. He pulled up his character screen and studied it.

Percy smiled at his progress, but knew he still had a lot of work to do. He knew he needed to do some training in STR, and he was pretty sure that gambling wasn't allowed at Yancy Academy, so LUC training was out at least for now. He will definitely attempt to learn more English, and possibly another language tomorrow as well.
Suddenly, Percy realized that he had not eaten all day, and yet he wasn't hungry at all. Was this a quirk of the system, did he no longer have to eat to survive? Come to think of it, he wasn't really feeling tired either, so did he also not have to sleep? Percy was excited at the possibilities, but decided he should still eat normally for now as it would seem suspicious if he stopped attending meals.
Percy settled into bed, deciding that even if he didn't need to sleep anymore, it didn't mean that he didn't still like doing it. He wished Grover a good night, and drifted off to sleep, ready for a new day.
