AN: Hey everyone,
Sorry, it took me so long to update this story, I've been busy with schoolwork, my summer job, and such. Also, my current schedule is pretty full so I might not be able to update stories as much as before so sorry for any long waits.
I've been watching the Bad Batch show on Disney+ and I like it. While the filler episodes do tend to get annoying and drag on, the episodes that go into what's happening to the galaxy as the Empire is established is pretty cool and dark especially with the destruction of Kamino, the clone commando base, and how the clones are being replaced by those who will eventually be stormtroopers. Crosshair also made for a cool villain with how cold he is to the others and how he felt betrayed when they left him and how even with his chip gone and being left for dead he still supports the Empire. Omega is a decent character although I feel that she is annoying at times but it's not too serious at least for me. Visions also recently came out which I've just begun to start watching.
In terms of RWBY Volume 8, I think it could've been better in certain areas like Ironwood's descent into villainy. I loved the idea of Penny becoming human but they freaking killed her off AGAIN I which was a waste since she could've been learning how to really be human with her feelings and thoughts. Not to mention we never actually saw her semblance. Her swords were connected to her by strings and she had the Winter Maiden powers so we never actually saw her fight with it. Something I plan to take advantage of when she eventually pops up. Volume 9 looks pretty intriguing with where they ended up after falling into the void so I wonder where the story will take place after that.
This is my own opinion on these shows so please don't be upset and start a fight because it is extremely petty and stupid to argue about whether I liked the show or not. Now let's get on with the chapter.

STAR WARS: RWBY CHRONICLES
CHAPTER VIII: A World of Bloody Evolution
Terror in Vacuo!
After arriving on the mysterious planet Remnant, Jaune and his crew begin preparing for the departure of the children, planning to bring each one to the cities they came from.
Upon returning Jeremiah to the desert City of Vacuo, a large force of dark side creatures suddenly attacked the desert city. The same creatures that Jaune had been seeing in his visions.
Now Jaune must face his fears as they become reality and defend the city from these vile beasts as he realizes how dire things are on Remnant...
Grimm…
That was what these evil shadowy beasts were called...the same ones that have been haunting his visions of Remnant for the last few days. The monsters Iris had said were fought by a group of warriors called Huntsmen and he could see why.
They resonated nothing but death and destruction with soulless rage-filled eyes that radiated pure hatred and animosity for sentient life...Jaune never felt anything like it. The amount of dark side energy that came from the monstrosities was enough to make him gag.
With some effort whatever bile had attempted to crawl out of his mouth was forced back down as he used the Force to ease the queasiness and anxiety, he was feeling over the amount of dark side Force energy that came off of them which smelled like the den of a Krayt Dragon's nest.
He powered through the sensations he was feeling as he looked at the different monsters that were attacking.
He saw large black versions of dune lizards with razor-sharp crimson teeth and claws, and large spikes on their backs biting into the limbs of fallen fighters ripping their flesh apart with ease as their prey screamed in agony.
Large black bat-like creatures with blood-red wings, circling the darkening skies like mynocks as they swooped down from overhead cawing and crowing as they repeatedly dive-bombed the defenders, snatching them up and flying away to Force knows where. What was shocking about these beasts were that they let out sonic screeches from their mouths as if they were born with some sort of sonic cannon
There were pitch-black mammals with large armored humps and green spittle dribbling from their maws like monstrous versions of banthas that charged at their opposition in a stampeding herd all the while spitting green slime which began to burn and in some cases melt the skin of the warriors that were in their way.
He even saw small white and black armored creatures with skull faces and red hot tails that split off into three barbed points scurry toward them en masse like scorpion-rats on Kessel that swarmed the fallen fighters, relentlessly stinging away at them.
This was truly like the nightmares he had witnessed. There was no denying it now. This planet truly was the one from his dreams.
Jaune watched in disbelief as he watched the natives of the city fight back against these dark side monstrosities wielding a strange assortment of swords, spears, rifles, and other weapons as they hacked, slashed, stabbed, and shot at each one they could get.
What surprised Jaune the most is that the people of this city deeply resonated with the Force but in a way he had never felt, not even in the temple where there were countless Jedi from almost every single species in the known galaxy.
But this...This was different; the connection to the Force was completely and utterly unique in a way not even Jaune could properly describe.
He watched one man create a blue barrier of light to block an attack from one of the lizards before counterattacking with his sword and cleaving its head off from its body as black blood spewed from the stump of its neck. He watched a woman wielding a halberd stab her weapon into the neck of one of the two-humped beasts before pulling it out, before transforming her weapon into a slug-thrower rifle and shooting at the bat beasts up above. He watched a man with a lizard tail hack and slash at some of the insect-like critters crawling toward them alongside a man with bull horns coming out of his head who was lit up with red energy and charged on them, crushing everyone that stood in his way before slamming into a lizard beast. To add to his surprise, whenever a black beast was killed the body turned into black mist and blew away in the wind leaving no trace the creature was there even going so far as to remove the black blood staining the sands. A biological phenomenon such as this was practically unheard of in the galaxy surprising Jaune even more.
As he witnessed the battle rage on, Jaune only had one thing to say.
"What in the name of the Force is going on here?" he asked himself, still in disbelief of what was going on until one of the flying creatures made him its target.
Jaune ducked as the bat creature's talons nearly grabbed onto him and watched the monster circle back around before making its way toward him again, letting out sonic screeches on the defenders still inside the city.
He reacted quickly, unholstering his A-10s, and began firing back at the thing, hitting its wings and causing it to let out a scream of pain as it fell and crashed into the wall before it too disintegrated leaving only cracks in the wall it made impact with. Shortly after a small pack of lizard monsters scaled the walls with their bone-white claws digging into the stone as they glared at Jaune with murderous intent, hissing sinisterly with a particularly large and better-armored one closely behind them with large red spines protruding from it's back. Undoubtedly this one was the alpha of the pack.
Despite feeling the cold and the wretched smell of the dark side oozing off of them, Jaune didn't react but instead remained in complete control of himself despite the whirling storm of emotions within him at seeing such foul dark side abominations. He holstered his right blaster and reached for his lightsaber. A blue blade ignited from the metal hilt as he held it threateningly toward them. Surprisingly the Grimm flinched back as if they were struck by a whip.
Regardless of whatever fear the weapon instilled in them, the Grimm advanced circling around him, salivating given the drool escaping their maws. One pounced at him from behind but Jaune reacted quickly turning around and using his lightsaber to cleave the thing in two. Two more attempted two kill him, leaping at him with their claws ready, but he managed to jump away from his previous spot avoiding their attack, but they weren't done yet and charged.
He shot a series of red laser bolts into the face of one Grimm causing it to hiss in pain before falling dead, while it's partner managed to reach Jaune, bringing a mighty claw swipe down on him. However the claw didn't make contact with his flesh but the searing hot plasma of his lightsaber as Jaune cut off the beast's hand and spun around as he beheaded the thing, leaving only four others and the alpha left.
The alpha lizard Grimm glared at him before letting out a loud command hiss causing the remaining four to rush toward Jaunes with him doing the same. The first lizard attempted to bite Jaune but was stopped when Jaune stabbed it in the throat with his lightsaber as he also let out a few bolts into it's head as well. Once he was done with the first one a second lizard leaped him which he ducked causing it to soar above him and into a wall. Instead of finishing it off, he used the Force to push back the other two lizards, knocking them down and leaving their unarmored underbellies exposed. He immediately began opening fire on the third and fourth lizards advancing toward him causing them to stumble and hiss in pain as they were shot until they were heaping piles of dissipating black masses.
Before he could strike down the alpha, the second Grimm that he had ducked came back slamming it's black tail into his back and sending him sprawling toward the ground while his blaster and lightsaber were sent out of his hands with his lightsaber deactivating upon hitting the ground.
"Kriff!" Jaune shouted as he realized that he was disarmed aside for his second blaster.
Seeing that he was disarmed the second Grimm lizard alongside the alpha both lunged at Jaune as he rolled away ensuring that they didn't manage to land one of their attacks. He quickly got back up and took out his second blaster shooting the smaller lizard in the neck and part of it's exposed underbelly as it fell too dead. He then turned his sights on the alpha creature as it charged toward him again, repeatedly slashing, biting, and lashing it's tail at him in a desperate attempt to harm him all of which Jaune avoided until the thing managed to land a hit.
"Aaahh!" Jaune yelled out as he felt the alpha's razer-bladed tail lightly scrape the side of his face leaving a sharp, stinging, pain where it had struck. He touched his cheek as he saw a small amount of blood coming from the wound. He grit his teeth in anger and unleashed a volley of red lasers on the alpha, but failed to land any killing shots due to most of the lasers striking the armor it sported on it's underbelly which it's underlings didn't have. He backed away seeing that there was a wall behind him before looking back at the alpha Grimm lizard which was growling and hissing menacingly as a plan formed in his head.
He turned around and ran away.
The alpha chased after him, desperate to make him a part of it's dinner before it moved onto the others. Jaune stopped just short of the wall and, using the Force, jumped up into the air and used the wall as a platform to perform a backward jump over the Grimm lizard alpha, while the lizard slammed into the wall just like the previous one had.
Jaune stumbled upon landing but quickly regained his balance and used the Force to summon both his lightsaber and second blaster, while the Grimm lizard was still disoriented. With both weapons in hand, he fired a few shots into the masked face of the beast keeping it from regaining it's focus while Jaune rushed forward with his lightsaber ignited, leaping into the air landing on the back of the Grimm lizard.
Jaune raised his weapon and thrust it forward into the back of the Grimm. It screamed in pain as the lightsaber pierced its armor and made it's way through the rest of it's body. Jaune swiftly removed the blade from it's back and used the momentum to decapitate the alpha before leaping off it's evaporating carcass.
Seeing that he was no longer surrounded he let out a sigh of relief.
"Blasted monsters!" he muttered, quickly checking himself for any other injuries aside from the one on his cheek. Seeing that he was mostly okay, Jaune turned to see the still raging battle between the people of the city and the monsters attacking them as saw a man getting swarmed by a group of monsters who were focusing more on him than the others.
The man was putting up one hell of a fight against the monsters, constantly hacking and slashing at them with his sword, as he cut down as many as he could in a furious rage, but Jaune knew the man would inevitably be overwhelmed by the sheer number of creatures that were making their way toward him.
If he didn't do anything the man was going to get killed by the overwhelming amount of beasts scrambling toward him as he used his sword to fight back.
"Might as well get involved," Jaune sighed as quickly got back on his speeder and punched it as he used some nearby wooden planks as a ramp and flew off the top of the wall and onto the battlefield like a knight riding his faithful steed. He directed his speeder toward the man and pressed the triggers on the handles as a barrage of blue blaster bolts shot out of the barrels and into the backs of the belligerent beasts making them fall down dead. He continued to fire upon, unrelenting as they began to thin out until the last one was cut in half by the man's strange sword. The man gave Jaune a curious look most likely thinking who he was and where he got the speeder bike from.
"Thanks for the help," he grunted as Jaune pulled up next to him, "Who the hell are you anyway?" he then asked.
"Jaune," he replied, "And you?"
"Joseph."
Before Jaune could ask about the creatures the sound of hungry snarls caught their attention as more of the lizard monsters were making their way toward the two with hungry looks in their eyes.
"Hop on," Jaune shouted with Joseph seeing fit to listen to him as his sword folded in on itself into a more compact form and he got into the sidecar of the speeder with both hands gripping the handles of the cannon.
"Pull the triggers to open fire!" Jaune yelled as he pushed the controls forward and they began to speed away as the monsters chased after them.
"I know how a cannon works, kid," Joseph grunted back.
"Alright then. The sidecar can also flip around so you can shoot behind us!"
Sure enough, as soon as he said that the sidecar had flipped around making Joseph face the oncoming mass of black beasts chasing after them. Joseph pressed his fingers down on the triggers as the cannon began to rapidly fire a barrage of blue bolts into the stampede who were joined by some of the other beasts as well.
"This thing really packs one hell of a punch!" Joseph shouted as he took down one of the bat monsters, sending it crashing into the stampede below and causing more Grimm to crash together.
"What are these things?" Jaune asked as he ducked another bat's clutches as he shot it in the back with his blaster multiple times.
"What, you never seen a Grimm before?" Joseph questioned as he took down another camel Grimm.
Jaune thought carefully on how to reply to the question lest he say something that made him look suspicious.
"Not these ones," he settled on as Joseph let out an annoyed grunt before answering.
"The lizards are called Komodos, the bat Grimm are Ravagers, the small bastards are Sulphur Fish and the camels are Dromedons," Joseph informed him as he took out another Komodo Grimm.
Another bat Grimm, now revealed to be called a Ravager dive-bombed toward them from the front but was sent colliding with the ground by Jaune's A-10 blaster as they sped past it's decaying body.
"Why are they hellbent on chasing us?" Jaune asked as he quickly ignited his lightsaber to decapitate a Dromedons that managed to get close.
"Grimm usually go after those who've gone through severe trauma and stress makin'em have negative feelings and shit like that. That's why they're chasin' us," he continued gritting his teeth and Jaune knew why. He could feel the pain of loss hidden deep within the man. The pain of having lost someone close to him, which was a feeling Jaune could relate with all too well.
That pain he had deep within him coupled with the lingering negative feelings Jaune still felt from the Clone Wars and the death of the Jedi Order undoubtedly attracted the most Grimm out of all the others.
No matter how many fell by cannon or blaster fire many were still coming after them.
"We need a detonator or something," Jaune thought, cursing himself for not having one on him. Joseph seemed to realize this as well, but unlike Jaune, he pulled out something from his belt. A fiery red crystal that felt like a raging fire within the Force.
"What're you gonna do with that?" he curiously asked.
"This," Joseph simply replied as he tossed the crystal at the Grimm and fired at it using the cannon.
What followed was a loud boom and screams of pain as the Grimm was engulfed in a raging inferno as they tried to fight it but inevitably succumbed to the fire, becoming charred black bodies that like the others turned to black dust.
"What the kriff was that thing!" Jaune shouted.
"Fire Dust crystal. Great for purging large groups of Grimm at once," the man smirked.
"That was what Iris and the others were talking about," he recalled, "That thing felt sorta like a kyber crystal! By the sounds of it, there are other types of it too!"
"Swing around so I could help the others?"
Joseph's words interrupted Jaune's thoughts as he saw Joseph's compatriots also getting swarmed by the amount of Grimm.
"Sure thing," he responded, directing the speeder in the other direction as Joseph turned the sidecar back to the front and unleashed another volley.
One by one Grimm after Grimm fell by their teamwork, allowing the others to regain their momentum and continue to fight back.
As the battle continued Jaune saw another warrior firing electricity from his weapon, electrocuting the Grimm near him. Another one somehow shot at a barrage of stone from their weapon while another had a stream of water come from hers.
All of which he felt resonate within the Force and increase his curiosity even more. Where did the Grimm come from? What is Dust? How were the natives able to tap into the Force in such a unique way? All of which he hoped to answer soon.
After a few more passes and the help of the warriors on the other side, the Grimm were trapped between them as they were either cut, stabbed, or shot. But something told Jaune the battle wasn't yet over.
Sure enough, he saw a horde of Grimm Joseph called Sulfur Fish swarming together, accumulating more and more of their own together as they became a large black mass. The black blob soon looked like a giant reptilian-like head and neck with rows of sharp white "teeth" formed by the armor of the creatures with the mouth burning a bright yellow-orange color.
"What in the name of Malachor is that thing!?" Jaune shouted, witnessing the newly formed behemoth take shape from the smaller Grimm.
"Dammit! They managed to combine!" Joseph shouted as he and the others began to open fire on the giant mass of Sulfur Fish with Jaune following their example. However, it appeared that the looming dark mass seemed unaffected by the small arms fire as it unleashed a hellish screech and lurched forward. The defenders launched shot after shot using both their own abilities but it barely did a thing to the hide as the while the large amalgamation of Sulfur Fish continued to advance forward, a horrid dull yellow and black mist emitting from the mouth.
"Sulfur Fish gas!" shouted someone as the gas continued to draw near enveloping those unfortunate enough to not fall back in time. Almost immediately those caught by the gas began to cough and wheeze as their movements began to slow and their bodies began to tremble and stagger before they fell to their arms and knees in a desperate attempt to escape the toxic gas but fail, with their limbs falling lifeless.
That however was not the end as the giant's mouth began to blow bright red. An obvious sign that the mouth was burning with heat, an omen of what was coming. The gas the Sulfur Fish giant released was ignited causing a giant ball of fire and black smoke to rush toward them.
"Everyone get back!" Jaune yelled as he felt the danger spike through the Force the moment the deadly toxic gas was spewed out.
"Fall back behind the city wall or we'll get cooked!" A guard shouted out as he continued to open fire on the demonic gestalt as the fighters began to retreat behind the city gate for safety from the fiery gas.
"If that thing isn't dead the entire city is gonna go up in flames!" Joseph yelled as his sword transformed into a rifle and he too began to assist the others who were positioned behind a series of large rocks that jutted out of the golden sands and provided cover from the fiery inferno erupting from the giant monster.
"Blast!" Jaune shouted as he joined them, maneuvering his speeder behind a large rock to prevent it from getting struck by the flaming gas.
"What is that thing?" Jaune called to Joseph as the beast let out another roar.
"Sulphur Fish have the ability to combine with each other to make something like that," Joseph quickly explained pointing at the large abomination.
How are we supposed to beat it?"
"We don't stand a chance now! We need a lotta dust to burn the bastard down! Problem is that we don't have much ammo left," he shouted over the roars.
Jaune thought for a moment as he tried to think of a way to defeat the monster.
"Ok, it's big and needs a lot of ammo to take down. Maybe Oum can fly the ship nearby and open fire," Jaune thought before shaking his head, No that won't work. That thing needs more than turbo lasers to take it down. Not to mention that gas is gonna scorch the people before we even have a chance to fight back and my skills in the Force are rusty. Unless...I got it, but it'll take a lot out of me! May the Force be with me."
With a plan in mind, he pressed his communicator which beeped a few times before Oum answered.
"Is something wro-"
"Oum!" Jaune cut off the droid before he finished his question. "Come to my location now! There's a giant monster attacking the city and we could use some air support! Fire a combination of missiles and lasers! I have a plan to take it down!"
"Roger roger, sir! On our way now," Oum responded before the communication was cut and the roars of the beast echoed again.
Jaune looked over the rock as he saw the monstrosity's poisonous flammable gas that continued to barrel toward them. Pretty soon the remaining defenders along with him would be burned to cinders. He took a few deep, meditative breaths, steeling himself for what he had to do next. He jumped out from behind his spot and ran toward the Grimm and the deadly gas.
"Whaddaya think you're doing kid! Do ya have a death wish!?" Joseph shouted, but Jaune didn't reply, instead continuing to rush toward the monstrosity in front of them.
Joseph and the others went back behind their spots closing their eyes as they fully expected to feel the burning toxic inferno consuming their bodies...but it never came. He opened his eyes, surprised that he and the others hadn't been burned into charred flesh by the Grimm's gas. Curious he peeked out from behind his spot and was astounded by what he was seeing.
There was Jaune, arms extended as if he was pushing back against something heavy then he noticed why. The giant fireball that was coming their way was now being pushed back away from them and toward the abomination, it was spewing out of and burning it.
Jaune was using the Force to push the fiery, toxic gas back in an attempt to stave off the attack and protect the people, but by the looks of it, it wouldn't last. His body was shaking as he struggled against the thing's fire breath. If reinforcements didn't arrive soon his body would give out and he and the people were protecting would suffer a horrid, painful death. The Grimm seemed to be aware of what was happening as it stopped breathing its fire focusing solely on creating as much toxic gas as it could muster so it could break Jaune's focus and incinerate its enemies at the same time surrounding itself in an ugly blackish yellow haze.
"Come on! Come on! Just a little longer!" he mentally screamed at himself, hoping that Oum would come in. His legs had started to wobble under the pressure and the uneasy soft surface of the sand wasn't making things better causing him to slid back little by little and with how the being felt in the Force, he might as well have been carrying a boulder on his back with how heavy its dark presence felt to him.
Then he heard it…The sound of a roaring engine…The Shining Arch had arrived.
As the Arch soared overhead, firing a volley of red turbolasers at the giant Grimm which roared in pain. Next two missiles were fired at the yellow and black mist-covered Grimm as it pass by.
BOOOOOOMMMM! BOOOOOOMMMM!
The missiles had made impact with the Giant Sulfur Fish amalgamation killing a good majority of Sulfur Fish and igniting the flammable gas they concocted it surrounded itself in. Pained roars erupted from the monster as it began getting cooked alive. Soon, the body and head of the Grimm gestalt fell apart and all sulfur fish that had created it scurried away hoping to escape the deadly fire it created.
But that wasn't the end of it.
The resulting fireball had to be contained or else the burst would not only consume Jaune but the remaining forces defending the city. Jaune know had to use the Force to hold the explosion of gas but he was running on fumes. He had already used all of his energy and strength to contain the Grimm beast when it was still alive but now the explosion that came from its fiery death was proving too much for him to handle.
"No no no no no no!" he shouted as he felt his concentration reaching its critical point. Bit by bit Jaune was brought to one knee, still refusing to let up on his barrier. His eyes stung with tears and his face was dripping with sweat from the combination of battling Grimm and the desert heat; If he lost focus now his barrier would fall apart and the inferno would consume them.
"No... Can't... Give up...now..."
As Jaunes eyes started to get heavy he felt a sudden surge from the Force. Like a windstorm and torrent of water. Soon he saw the deadly smoke start to blow in the opposite direction and a stream of pressurized water appeared in the air putting out the fires. Pretty soon he saw two individuals by his side with one of them being Joseph who had somehow fired a stream of water from his sword and rifle hybrid and the other being a woman with dirt-blonde hair, dark skin, and tan skin who had two daggers creating torrents of wind to blow away the smoke. Pretty soon the black smoke had dispersed and the fires were put out.
"You alright kid?" Joseph asked with concern in his tone as he and the woman helped lift him back up to his feet.
"Just...f-fine," Jaune stuttered, stumbling back to the ground as he tried to stand up on his own.
"Easy now," Joseph said supporting him. "That was reckless an' dangerous. But considering what woulda happened if you didn't do it, it would've lead to disaster. For that, you have the thanks of Vacuo."
"It was...no...problem," Jaune exhaustedly said, due to his overuse of the Force straining his body.
"Hah! "No problem" he says," Joseph laughed as he brought him close to the city walls.
"Come on. Let's get ya somethin' to drink."
"Can't," Jaune groaned. "I still have a mission to finish."
"Not in yer current condition, lad," the man responded. "You used a lotta aura usin' yer semblance to keep that Grimm an' putrid fire breath back. Ya even managed to hold the explosion so we can properly put it out. Ya need rest now. An' don' worry, yer fancy Atlessian hoverbike ain't going nowhere. I'll make sure of it. Hey, Sara mind watching over the lad's bike?"
"Sure thing," The woman with dirt-blonde hair said as she walked over to it and started to walk it behind them.
Jaune could do nothing but agree that maybe some rest would do him well at least for a little bit. After ten minutes of walking, Joseph brought the boy into a nearby cantina called Moe's Mugs which was filled with people some of which were the outside defenders celebrating their recent victory by drinking whatever alcoholic beverages they could get their hands on. Joseph set Jaune down on a nearby stool while he sat next to him. While Joseph ordered drinks from the bartender, Jaune took a better look at the people around that survived the battle. There was the man with the large horns who stampeded across the Grimm who had tan skin and scars around his face and bare chest. The woman that had a halberd was talking with the man with the green lizard tail. He even saw other types of people who had various animalistic traits just like Selene and Ebon back on the ship. From tails, wings, claws, fangs, horns, and hooves these Faunus that he learned about from the kids on his ship were fascinating sentient beings.
"Hey! Animals like you don' belong in'ere!"
"Yeah, git outta here!"
"This ain't a zoo!"
Which is why it greatly upset him to see a large man with a blonde beard and two of his friends harassing a woman who had the antlers of a deer on her head and appeared to be a waitress in the pub.
"Guess they weren't kidding. Humans here are just as prejudiced against other species as the ones back in the known universe," Jaune thought to himself as recalled what both Selene and Ebon said to him about being discriminated against by humans, and by the look of Joseph's sour and annoyed expression so was he.
As the waitress left to serve someone else, Jaune turned to Joseph.
"Is that common around here?"
"Unfortunately," the man responded grabbing one of the beers the bartender had set down in front of them and taking a long sip from it before slamming it down on the counter. Jaune on the other hand hadn't made to reach his drink.
"Uhm...I'm seventeen."
"So what? After what you've done today you deserve it," he sides taking another swig of beer. "Sides no one really cares how old you are unless yer very young."
Hearing this Jaune thought back to his training and other experiences on Coruscant when master Vos would sometimes sneak him out of the temple to bring him to the lower levels of the planet city to get him acquainted with the criminal underworld and what he would potentially have to do in the future when he became a fully christened Jedi Knight. Quinlan would use the Force to trick the bouncers outside to let them go into some sleazy nightclub filled with dancing Twi'leks and patrons who enjoyed drinking beer, doing drugs, and performing other illegal activities. Places like these were popular in the criminal underworld and many gangsters and criminals would sometimes hang out in places such as these after they performed a heist, killed someone, smuggled illegal goods, and such in celebration of their crimes. When in these sorts of surroundings, a Jedi needed to blend in with the crowd and keep a low profile until it was time. This included drinking alcoholic drinks to look like another patron and to not appear suspicious when hunting for a criminal who could potentially visit the same bar and how to look out for drinks that have been spiked with a substance that could either kill him or leave him unconscious. Needless to say, when Aayla found out what he was doing with Jaune she was less than happy, chewing the Kiffar Jedi out and even had Jaune train twice as hard as punishment for going along with Quinlan's adventures along with having him spend some time in the Archives and with both Tera Sinube and Madame Jocasta. Although it was due to these experiences that Jaune was able to recognize and find a way to survive when he became a smuggler when he was betrayed by the clones, so in hindsight, the trips with master Vos paid off much to his master's displeasure.
As he finished reminiscing on his past adventures with Quinlan into the scummy crime-infested underworld of Coruscant he carefully inspected his drink, looking for any signs that it had been tampered with, before hesitantly taking a sip. He felt the liquid burn his throat with a sour taste and Jaune's eyes to screw shut. He removed the cup from his lips, slamming it down on the counter, as he lightly shook his head. Sure the drink hadn't been the strongest he had in his life, but he never touched another bottle of the substance ever since his master found out. Even when Sangria gave him glasses of wine as rewards for a job well done, he would turn it down fearing that it was spiked with something. Although he did save one bottle of Nabooian wine she gifted him which was stored in the kitchen pantry for when he finally was able to legally drink.
"You alright there kid?" Joseph asked, bringing Jaune's attention back to him.
"Yeah, just not used to it yet," he waved off while coughing and thumping his chest with his fist.
Joseph let out a small chuckle before taking another swig of his beer.
"So... where ya from?" Joseph asked as Jaune froze at the question he wasn't expecting.
"Oh um…" Jaune struggled to find an answer that wouldn't give away where he truly came from and satisfy the Huntsman's curiosity. Then he remembered what Oliver said about Atlas being a floating city due to how technologically advanced it is.
"I'm from Atlas," he settled on hoping it would be a sufficient response.
"Thought so," Joseph nodded. "Ain't no way you could afford yer own bullhead an' floatin' bike without comin' from some fancy rich family all the way up in Solitas."
He took another swig of beer, before asking another question that made Jaune worry.
"Why're you here?"
"Well…that is one of life's biggest mysteries," he nervously spouted, hoping to buy a few more precious seconds to think of an excuse.
"Heh, smartass," Joseph smirked. "I didn't mean it like a philosophical question. I meant what's a rich kid like you doin' all the way out here? Don' yer parents miss ya?"
That made Jaune freeze up again as he thought back to the parents he never knew and the questions he had about them.
Did his parents miss him? Surely, they had to miss him right? No one would willingly allow their child to work as a slave for anyone unless they didn't care about him. Perhaps they had debts they wanted to clear away and resorted to selling him to do so? Perhaps the Zygerrians trick them into giving him away by claiming to be Jedi and they gave him away not knowing that they were lying. Or did they truly rip him away from his family and lie that they didn't want him. Perhaps they thought he was dead, and if so did they mourn him? Send search parties out to try to find him only to give up when they couldn't find anything.
He also couldn't help but wonder whether or not he was an only child. Did he have any brothers and sisters? What were they like? Did they love him too?
All these questions ran amok inside his head letting him zone out of the conversation.
"Oi are ya alright?" Joseph's gruff but concerned voice broke his thoughts as he snapped back to reality.
"Oh yeah, yeah I'm alright, and to answer your question… it's complicated and I'd rather not say," he finally answered.
"Fair enough I s'pose," he grumbled. "I ain't one to pry into someone's life when they ain't comfortable."
"How about you?" Jaune asked, causing the man to pause.
"What'd ya mean?"
"I mean I could tell something bad happened to you," Jaune said as the man's eyes started to swell up with tears. Clearly, the sense of loss he felt was still fresh given by his lack of a response.
Before another question could be asked a light beeping was heard. Jaune looked down to see his wrist communicator glowing a light green color. Usually used between Jaune and Oum when on missions. Most likely he wanted to ask Jaune what the heck was going on and if he was alright.
"I'll be back in a few minutes. Gotta take this," Jaune informed, getting up from his seat and making his way toward the bathroom, all the while he heard Joseph grunt something about Atlessian technology.
Jaune entered the dirty and ugly-looking bathroom choosing to enter a stall for extra privacy in case someone else entered the restroom. He tapped the button as the blinking light green light become permanent signifying that a stable connection had been made.
"Sir, are you alright!" Oum's frantic and concerned robotic voice asked the moment the connection was made.
"Yeah Oum I'm alright," he assured.
"What was that thing attacking the city?" the droid asked.
"When I dropped off Jeremiah I just suddenly felt this...this wave of Dark Side energy. Turns out there was a small army of these...these creatures the locals call Grimm.
"Grimm?"
"Yeah, I know the name fits them perfectly. They're the monsters that Iris said live on this planet" he explained. "Some looked like bats, mammals, lizards, and small armored insect-like animals and could do different things. That giant monstrosity I had you fire a missile at was made of a bunch of those small armored bugs merging together and becoming that...that thing," Jaune shuddered as he remembered the sudden sense of dread that filled him when he faced them.
"Are you alright? "You're not hurt are you?" Sila's voice then came through the comms.
"I'm exhausted but nothing too serious," he assured Sila.
"Regardless I'm gonna give you a check-up just to be safe when you get back," she responded and by the sound of her tone, it was absolutely required for him and there was no argument he could use that could convince her otherwise.
Jaune let out a sigh. "Ugh, alright I'll get a check-up once I'm done," he conceded.
"So, what do you plan to do now once you're finished?" Oum asked.
Jaune thought for a moment. What should he do next after bringing the kids home? Going back into the known galaxy would be incredibly dangerous now that he's being hunted by Sangria's bounty hunters and the Empire. This was an incredibly dangerous planet to stay on as indicated by those Grimm monsters that attacked, but he didn't really have anywhere else to go. And what about that vision he had when they traveled through the nebula along with the other visions that have kept him up at night when he slept or meditated? Did the Force want him to stay here? And what about those voices and the mysterious dark woman he constantly saw and heard? They had to be on this planet as well right?
"For the time being, we'll lay low here for a while until it's safe enough to go back into the known universe," Jaune said. "Once it looks like the Empire and Sangria have given up looking for us then we'll head back and try working for someone else. And besides...there are things I need to know about this planet. This world I've been seeing in my visions it's incredibly powerful with both sides of the Force. For all, I know there could be a secret Jedi hideout here that we could meet with."
"Alright then if you're sure."
"I am. Also, I might be down here for a little bit just so you know," he informed.
"Yes sir. We'll be at the same spot where you left us before. Be careful sir," Oum replied with an unsure and worried tone.
"I will," Jaune returned before ending the link between them. Getting out of the bathroom Jaune made his way back to his stool.
"Everything alright?" Joseph asked.
"Yeah, just letting my friends know that I'm alright and that I'll be here for a bit."
"Alright then."
"So, what exactly are you?" Jaune asked, curious as to what the man's career was. What followed was a brief explanation five-minute conversation with Joseph explaining that he was a Huntsman, working with the local militia to help protect the city from the Grimm and that he was also a teacher at Shade Academy which helped provide patrols of Huntsmen in training or otherwise to protect the people against criminals and Grimm and make sure negativity stayed low as difficult as that was considering they lived in a harsh desert environment while Jaune listened with great interest. These people used something called "aura" and "semblances" along with the "dust" to help fight back against these dark creatures. This greatly interested Jaune, mainly because it sounded like these people were Jedi in some way, especially with how connected to the Force everyone was.
In others words the goal of the Huntsman was too bring hope to the people of the four kingdoms that the Grimm will be defeated and they would no longer fear being wiped out of existence by them.
"How has a planet like this exist?" he asked himself in his mind. The balance of the Force on this planet was very much strong, yet very unbalanced in favor of the dark side as evident by the Grimm. If this planet was discovered earlier in galactic history without a doubt the Jedi would've sent their knights and masters to fight these things and push them into extinction and perhaps set up a temple here as they had done in the past.
"Before when we were being chased by those Grimm what exactly are they?" Jaune asked.
"No one knows," he grunted. "They've been around for quite a while attackin' any and every one they see or sense. Personally, I think the Brother's made them to constantly keep us together despite how badly it's goin'." He took another drink of his now empty beer and gave him a suspicious look. "Shouldn't ya have known about that already? Bein' a Hunstman an' all that," he asked Jaune, catching him off guard yet again while giving him a look that held slight suspicion.
"Well, I-" Jaune started to say until the loud yells from the men harassing the waitress for her antlers started back up again as she worked behind the bar Jaune and Joseph were sitting at.
"Hey didn't ya hear me b'fore," one of the men drunkenly called. "Get the hell outta our kingdom!'
"Yeah, we don' want ya ruining our home!"
"Vacuo is our home, not yours!"
"Go back home to your shitty island!"
The last sentence was given extra emphasis when the drunk threw his glass at the bartender which would have hit her in the head had Jaune not caught it with his reflexes and set it down on the counter.
The gesture immediately soured the grinning faces of the trio.
"Ay, what'd ya think yer doing!"
"Stopping you guys from hurting the bartender," he simply replied.
At once the men rose from their seats.
"You lookin' for trouble mate?" one of them asked.
"No," he said as got up from his stool. "But it looks like you certainly do. What exactly did this woman do to you that warrants such hostility?"
"She's a stupid Faunus freak and she shouldn't be in our kingdom!" the man yelled while the woman let out a whimper. "What're ya some sort of animal lover?"
"So you hate her because of her appearance? That is such a stupid and petty reason to hate someone," Jaune stated, narrowing his eyes and folding his arms.
"Ya calling me stupid sonny? Do ya have any idea who you're talkin' to? I'm a godsdamn huntsman! I've fought Grimm twice your size!" the bearded man boasted.
"No you ain't," Joseph interjected getting up from his chair as well and standing beside Jaune, "An' the kid here took down a Sulfur Fish giant and used his semblance to hold back the fire it was spreadin' in case you were wonderin' why we all ain't barbecued, "Joseph sneered at the men. "Know what, I've been sick an' tired of you lot for quite some time so I recommend you apologize to the lady and boy and fuck off 'fore things get messy for ya."
The bearded man didn't appear to like what they were saying as an angry look appeared on his face and he clenched his fists. Jaune on reflex grabbed his arm before it had a chance to hit him, followed up by him using the man's arm and weight to flip him front first so that he landed on the floor with a heavy thud. The other two, enraged by this action took a swing at Joseph who easily dodged their drunken punches with ease and retaliate with his own punching one across their face and uppercutting the second one as they ended up in a scuffle of their own With Joseph managing to put both thugs into a stranglehold.
With Jaune the leader of the trio was slowly getting back up, glaring at Jaune the entire time as he stood up. He let out a growl and threw another punch only for Jaune to block it with his left arm and counter with his own right hook across the man's face and making him fall down yet again. The man rose up again, absolutely infuriated given his red face. His hand slipped behind his back as he brandished a large blade at Jaune in an attempt to look intimidating.
"Yer gonna regret this kid," The man growled. "I'm gonna teach ya a lesson ya won't forget!"
He lunged toward Jaune, but he easily avoided the drunken knife swings that came his way as the man furiously tried to stab and slash at him. After a few more failed swipes, Jaune grabbed his arm with the knife and pulled the man toward into the counter where he then proceeded to use his free hand to grab him by the back of the neck and slammed his head into the countertop before pulling him off and following it up with a punch straight to the man's face and knocking him back onto the floor. The man hurriedly got back up and with a yell thrust his knife toward Jaune where it would hit him near his heart had he not ducked and countered with an uppercut and knocking him off balance
"Stan' still will ya!" the man shouted, with anger present in his voice as he got back up and tried to swing again only to be knocked on his back yet again by a swift kick to his large stomach.
"What's wrong? I thought you wanted to teach me a lesson, so teach me," Jaune taunted as the man let out an angry grunt. "Or better yet I could teach you one," he added quickly drawing out his blaster and aiming it at the thug leader whose eyes went wide with shock and fear. A fear tactic he never usually would use especially due to his Jedi connections, but due to his time living in the scummiest parts of the galaxy trying to survive and his time as a smuggler, he had to cast away some of his morals and Jedi teachings to toughen up against a cruel universe and to live another day.
"H-Hey now t-there ain't no need for that," he stuttered. "W-Why don' we just settle down an' have a drink?" he offered, but Jaune wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"Or you and you slimeball friends get out while you have the chance," he threatened. "And I would make your decision soon, my trigger finger is getting itchy."
"Okay, okay we're leavin'," the man conceded as he put away his knife and slowly began backing out with his hands up, his eyes never wavering from Jaune and the threat he posed before turning around and dashing out of the bar with his two friends following him after Joseph let them go.
"Heh like rats with their tails 'tween their legs," he remarked with a smirk as the thugs ran off and he held up two leather pouches no doubt filled with money.
"When did you get those?" Jaune asked as he saw his ally rifling through the wallets he had somehow managed to steal from the two he put in headlocks.
"A trick I learned growin' up here in Vacuo," he simply replied giving some money to the bartender, which Jaune easily accepted, recalling how he had to learn to steal money from others that deserved it by using his Jedi skills, something which would've broken his master's heart to see, but he had no other choice.
Speaking of stealing right by the table the three thugs lay a small brown leather wallet that blended in with the wooden floor. By the way, it was close to the table where the three thugs were sitting it was most likely belonging to the bearded "Huntsman" Jaune had just threatened out of the bar, falling out when Jaune had knocked him down. He picked up the wallet and opened it up to reveal a pack of what Jaune assumed to be this planet's form of currency which took the form of white paper notes marked with a strange symbol with a number next to it along with a few plastic cards. Had he still been a part of the Jedi Order and his master still alive, Jaune would still have his morals intact and never consider misusing his skills and powers for personal gain, but when the Order fell and the Empire rose he had no choice but to resort to thievery in order to survive until he managed to win his ship and scored a job working for Sangria which paid well enough that he didn't have to steal anything. But here he was back to square one, on the run from both the Empire and Sangria on a planet only a select few know about and needed to find a way to survive on this strange and dangerous world along with bringing the children back to their respective homes.
By the looks of the numbers displayed on the currency, it appeared to be similar to the same numeric system used in Galactic Basic that was widespread throughout the galaxy...at least he hoped it was.
"How much did those guys owe?" he asked the bartender.
"About 300 Lien," she answered.
So, Lien was the name of the notes in his hands. Well, that would certainly be helpful.
He picked out three notes each marked with what he was hoping stood for 100 like in the galactic numeric system and handed them to her and breathed a sigh of relief he didn't know he was holding when she accepted them without complaint.
"Thank you," she said, handing him a few notes back along with some round bronze and silver coins for his change which he accepted. With the bar now at relative peace and the people no longer paying attention to him, Jaune sat back on his stool as he took another light sip of the beer, cringing at the burning sensation going down his throat.
"Now that, that's done," Joseph turned back to face Jaune. "I need'ta know where did ya get yer own bullhead and fancy bike? You work with the Atlas military?"
"A little bit," Jaune lied seeing an opportunity to give himself the cover of a freelancer. "I used to do stuff for the military but now I'm more like a freelancer though I'm not really sure if it's for me."
"Have ya considered bein' a Huntsman?"
"Eh?"
"Ya'know become a Huntsman and fight Grimm and help people," Joseph repeated. "It pays well and someone with skills, weapons, and semblance like yer's would make a killin' in no time," he took another sip of beer. "Though you'll need to go to an academy to get licensed and proper trainin'."
"What about tuition? Or books and supplies? I kinda don't have much left and need to worry about myself," Jaune asked, intrigued by the man's suggestion.
"That's the best thing about Huntsman academies. They pretty much pay for everything cause of the Councils needin' as many Huntsmen as possible to protect the Kingdoms so they're payin' for uniforms, books, and stuff like that. Hell, some places like Beacon and Atlas Academy even give newcomers scrolls if they don't have any," he explained.
"What about the school year? It hasn't started yet?" Jaune asked.
"In a few more days it'll start, then I'll be back at school helpin' train the next generation," he proudly declared, setting his now empty mug down for a refill. "Ya' still got time to submit yer papers into whatever school ya want."
"Hmmm...I'll be sure to give it some thought," Jaune said as he thought about what the man said. "But I don't know about going to school here." he continued. "Vacuo just...isn't really for me."
"Well, you can try the others if ya want. I know a guy in Vale that runs a club and can make pretty some pretty good-lookin' papers that can get ya into one of the others if ya need'em," Joseph offered.
"What's his name?"
"Junior. Owns a club named Junior's Club in the City of Vale in the residential area. Can't miss it."
"I'll keep that in mind," Jaune said taking another light sip of his drink, lightly cringing this time as he started to get used to the drink.
Before any more light conversation could be had between the two, Joseph begging rifling through his pockets until he pulled out a small slim object with a yellow diamond-shaped button in the center that was glowing. Upon tapping the button the object extended into a tablet similar to a small holopad. He held it up to his ear as Jaune barely heard the sound of a mature woman through the device.
"Yeah?... Sorry, was fightin' some Grimm when they attacked...at Moes right now...wait what!" Joseph nearly screamed as his face grew serious. "I'm on my way now, be there in'a few minutes." he finished as his device folded back into itself and he got up from the bar.
"Everything alright?" Jaune asked, seeing the mixed look of seriousness and relief on the Huntsman's face as he paid the waitress for their drinks.
"Sorry kid I gotta go. Somethin' important just came up at Shade and I need to go," he answered. "Been nice knowin' ya Jaune. Hope you take my advice someday. We could always use more guys like you."
"Thanks. Hope whatever happens in the future for you turns out well," he replied with a smile as Joseph gave one of his own before running out of the cantina as if his life depended on it.
"Wonder what that was about. Maybe something to do with Jeremiah? I did drop him off at the academy." he wondered as he decided that he stayed long enough in the bar. Most likely his crew and the kids were worried about him and now that he had no reason to stay in the bar it was time for Jaune to take his leave and return to the ship and continue his mission.
"Thanks for the drink," he thanked the bartender who gave him a smile as he too left the bar, encountering the woman named Sara who was just outside leaning on his speeder in the shade of the awning.
"All your's kid," she said as got off his bike.
"Thanks," he replied as he put on his goggles and grabbed the controls, and slowly began moving the speeder out of the shade and back into the sandy streets of Vacuo. With a small thrust of the steering, the bike began to move down the road at a gentle pace so that he didn't leave a trail of dust flying around. Eventually, he reached the gates of the town where the guards he had met earlier stood guard.
"Mind letting me through?" Jaune asked as the two looked him over before letting the doors open for him.
"Alright, but be careful. We ain't finished movin' the bodies."
"I understand...I'm sorry for what happened if it's any consolation," Jaune said in a somber and sincere voice as he gently nudged his bike out of the city and was able to glimpse the carnage that remained from the battle.
"By the Force," he muttered as he saw men and women putting the bodies of those who fell in battle on small wooden platforms. Some were even piled into wheelbarrows by those who remained due to how many were dead and how much blood, lost limbs, smiled at him and organs still stained the rocky dunes.
All brave men and women who gave their lives to defend the defenseless against those dark side abominations called Grimm. Like Jedi battling Sith.
"May they all be one with the Force," he prayed to himself hoping that they could rest easy knowing that their sacrifices were not in vain and that they could join the Cosmic Force in peace with no regrets.
After a minute of silence, Jaune continued moving forward and when the city was no longer in sight he gunned it straight for his ship, fearing the possibility that the creatures would return and attack him now that he was alone, or was attacking the ship.
When he approached the same rocky plateau in the distance, he was relieved to see that his fears weren't becoming a reality and tapped his comm link to inform Oum of his arrival.
At once the landing ramp descended as Oum stepped out with his blaster in hand.
"Sir, are you alright?" Oum asked as he rushed forward checking their surroundings for Grimm.
"I'm alright Oum, though Sila might say otherwise," he said as he got off his speeder and began bringing it up the ramp while Oum covered him in case a Grimm snuck up on them.
With Jaune now back on the ship, he made his way to Sila, who without a doubt was upset over what happened
"Hopefully things get better," he sighed as he entered the medbay hoping that her exam wouldn't take too long, but deep down he knew it would.
And there was nothing he could do to stop it.
AN: Again, I apologize for taking so long with this chapter. This went through a lot of rewrites and revisions to try and get it right. Not to mention school, my other stories, and good ol' procrastination being present. Also, I have midterms coming up soon, so I probably won't be posting a little while.
For this chapter, I decided to come up with one of my own types of Grimm to fight the theme of Vacuo and so I present to you the Komodo. A large lizard Grimm with armor on its back and the signature mask on its face. It has red jaws that produce a special poison where if anyone were to be bitten the wound will continue to bleed no matter what like the venom of an actual komodo dragon. Alpha Komodos are larger, with more armor on their backs with sharp spines, and sharp armored tails, all of which can produce the same venom from its mouth along with its claws.
The other Grimm that appeared in this chapter that are canon are the Sulfur Fish which can combine with others to become a giant black massive Grimm beast (I added the ability to breathe flammable toxic sulfur gas to make them extra dangerous), Dromedon's which were the camel Grimm that was able to spit green acid, and Ravagers which are the bat Grimm that can fire sonic shrieks.
Next chapter I promise Jaune finally brings all the kids back. This chapter was all about his first experience with the Grimm and the Huntsmen along with trying to understand how the planet functions without giving away that he's not from around there. Also, it was also meant to show that Jaune's morality is more of a light grey since he's used his abilities to steal in the past and has no problem with using threats to get his way, something definitely not part of the Jedi code but due to certain circumstances, Jaune had to do away with certain parts in order to survive yet not become a scumbag like the others. One of the many things being forced in the intergalactic criminal underworld could do to anyone, especially when that person has lost everything, they held dear and is now trying to survive.
Q&A:
Ozilla: Mainly Remnant but it will have some story arcs scattered throughout it and there will be times we will see what the Empire is up to.
Gamelover41592: You can say that again.
OGOPmeatb4lls: I'll try to focus a bit less on the Imps in the future if I can.
StarSaber5: No comment.
SuperPowerPunk: Their fairytale inspirations were already confirmed. Ozpin is the wizard of Oz, Glynda is Glinda the good witch, Qrow is the Scarecrow, Ironwood is the Tin Man, Theodore is Dorothy, and Lionheart is the Cowardly Lion.
Sigma-del-Prisium: Maybe maybe not.
SentinalSlice: Palpatine hasn't learned of Remnant until now. You're gonna have to wait and see what I do with the magic aspect of Remnant later on.
hirshja: Had to leave you guys wanting more :)
Guest (1): Yep. I don't want Vader showing up and taking over Remnant especially with how powerful he is. It would pretty just end the story right then and there.
tylerbmotter: Glad to have made your day! Hope you enjoyed this chapter.
BohemianMan: I hope this has met your expectations
8-bit Pirate: Thanks, and don't worry I haven't forgotten what you suggested to watch so I can get a better understanding of the material.
MM Browsing: Vader is indeed fighting resistance on other worlds, but it's way too soon for Luke to be against him. Also, as you can see Jaune has both his blasters and lightsaber.
Guest (2): Currently not planning on the ship getting destroyed, but who knows maybe something will happen in the future.
Q: The Brothers are definitely involved with the nebula, won't say anything more than that.
BrutusPrimus: Thanks!
HelpingHand: Don't worry. I plan to have Jaune learn new ways to fight.
Guest (3): Interesting theory
CoG.-Emiya: Which is exactly why I didn't want Vader going to Remnant. He's way too powerful and could easily take down any Huntsmen or Huntress in his way.
Lildeevil: Sorry not sorry :)
Lightning Lord Kaji: I hope you like what I have in store for Force and Aura
Guest (4) & Nordic Ghost Rider: Here's the latest chapter! Enjoy!
Axel100: Yeah, like I said before this story was heavily inspired by "Knight of the Fallen Order", but I swear I plan on making it as different as possible which is why it started out so slow to get to Remnant as well as establish a better reason why Jaune went to Remnant. Not to mention I'm still trying to get a grasp on my pacing issues which I'm working on. Also, don't worry about Vader he won't be showing up for a long time or maybe he won't even show up again.
That's all the questions and replies for today everyone. Next chapter Jaune returns the rest of the kids to their homes and has a run-in with some important people.
May the Force be with you always...
