Lyni sat dejectedly outside of the fowlery at the preserve near the campus. Staring at her slender hands she wondered what to do. Of course she had been an idiot to think they would let her in, the hawks were dangerous. But she wanted to see the recently found nest of Spring Hawks who had appeared despite all signs of complete extinction.

A few passers by laughed and pointed at her, and she told herself she didn't care. But she did. She did care.

Holding back her tears at the mockery she didn't notice the latest person approaching until they sat down on the wall next to the niche she had backed up into. A familiar voice asked, "What's wrong?"

Looking up to see Wolffe watching her, "Nothing." When he raised his eyebrows disbelievingly, "I was just stupid enough to think they would let me in to see the Spring Hawks."

Seeing the disappointment he was trying to hide from him, "Do you really want to see them?"

She nodded, "They were my brother…." swallowing, "my brothers favorite bird and he used to read about them to me." Seeing the slight confusion on his face, "He died getting the rest of us out."

Nodding once he stood up, "Then we had better see them."

As he pulled her out of the niche, "Wolffe, they won't let me in."

Taking the handles for her chair, "Yes they will if they want the lead lecturer on the hawks to speak here." She looked up at him startled as he pushed her towards the fowlery, "Jaster Morell happens to be my grandfather."

He had paused as she processed this but she smiled, "Then let's go." As they continued to the doors she tucked in the loose places of her clothing so the hawks had nothing to grab onto. Soon enough Wolffe was able to get them both in. And if his grandfather it as odd that there was a change to his schedule by his grandson, he didn't say.

Spring Hawk

Oh Spring hawk,

That flies, so honorably.

Your lines show

How a joy

Comes to all.

To hear your cry

Is music to

All blessed by it.

Oh Spring hawk,

That flies so honorably.
