becoming seriously injured. As soon as Tohru has incapacitated the criminal who attacked her she says.
"Why did you attack me?" Tohru
"My sister doesn't like the amount of time you spend with Yuki Soma, and she wants you out of the way as soon as possible." criminal
"I'm not giving up my family for anyone you hear me!" Tohru
"Your family?" criminal
"Yes my family. Yuki and Kyo are like brothers to me, and I love them as dearly as you love your sister." Tohru
The criminal's eyes go wide, and he says.
"So you're not dating Yuki Soma?" criminal
"Of course not don't be ridiculous." Tohru
"I'm sorry I was just trying to help my sister please forgive me." criminal
Tohru's face softens, and she puts Tsubaki away while saying.
"I know you were of course I forgive you." Tohru
The criminal looks at her face, and the expression is so kind and compassionate that it melts his hardened heart. The criminal regrets attacking this girl without checking the facts first, and at the same time he is awed by the strength she displayed even with her obviously soft heart. As he is thinking these things Otogiri walks out of the shadows, and comes over to stand next to Tohru. Otogiri looks at the criminal with an angry look on her face, and says.
"You attacked the saint that's a problem." Otogiri
The criminal becomes very afraid at the look on this obviously dangerous persons face. Tohru looks at Otogiri, and says.
"Otogiri could you do me a favour?" Tohru
"Anything as long as it's not a problem." Otogiri
"Could you tend to this mans injuries? His wounds are very serious, and he doesn't deserve to die over a misunderstanding." Tohru
Otogiri thinks about what Tohru said, and while she doesn't agree with Tohru as the victim it's her decision. Otogiri looks at Tohru, and says.
"That's not a problem I'll take care of it." Otogiri
"Thanks Otogiri I better be getting home now." Tohru
Otogiri nods to Tohru, and picks up the injured man as Tohru resumes her trek home.
The next morning at school Yuki announces that all the health inspections have been completed, and they have been given permission to open their rice ball stand. While they are deciding what kind of rice balls to sell a couple of silly ideas are suggested, and then Yuki says.
"What about a Hit or Miss?" Yuki
The student making the announcement with him says.
"Interesting." class leader
"We'll have a special offer. Anyone who buy three rice balls can have a fourth for free only we'll have some misses mixed in that will be made with some strange ingredient or something." Yuki
"That's a great idea." class
"Oh sure you're just going to follow whatever dumb idea he comes up with." Kyo
The class goes on to tease Kyo about his comment, and Yuki says.
"I have a student council meeting to attend so if you wouldn't mind handling the arrangements for building the stand." Yuki
"Sure just leave it to me." class leader
As Yuki is walking out the door the entire class begins mobbing Yuki with questions about their rice ball stand, and Kyo becomes more and more angry with every question they ask. Kyo's anger attracts all the cats in the area except Kuro who remains sleeping in Tohru's locker through it all. Kyo storms out of the room to get away from all the attention that has been brought to him by the cats. Hana who was watching the scene with her friends says.
"Strange boy." Hana
"Yeah like you're one to talk you're pretty strange yourself you know, but he does have one hell of a violent temper I'll give you that." Uo
"Yeah, and I thought you had to be cursed to be that irritable. Now how much of that did I make up on the fly?" Sakuya
Tohru panics and yanks Sakuya's hair for telling such a dangerous joke, and when Sakuya sees the look on Tohru's face he can tell that he went a little bit overboard with that joke. Sakuya extracts his hair from Tohru's grip, and apologizes for making such a bad joke. Fortunately this entire exchange is ignored by all.
Hana goes on to say.
"Yes he's quite rowdy." Hana
"The complete opposite of the prince hard to believe they're related." Uo
Tohru goes to find Kyo, and sure enough Tohru finds him laying on the roof under a pile of cats. Tohru pops up on the top of the ladder, and says.
"I was right." Tohru
"Aahhh!" Kyo
"I had a feeling you'd be up here. I guess whenever I need to find you I just have to look in the highest place." Tohru
Tohru gets up on the roof, picks up a cat, and Kyo says.
"What is it with you? You always got to sneak up on me like that?" Kyo
"Ah hello Mr. Cat you're so cute. These cats sure do like you don't they?" Tohru
"Yeah, yeah don't ask me why. They just show up on their own the same with dogs for Shigurae and rats for Yuki." Kyo
"Oh that must be fun." Tohru
"How the hell is it fun? This one time I was walking in the mountains with Kagura, and we got surrounded by a whole pack of boars. I thought they were going to eat us." Kyo
Tohru giggles, and says sorry after Kyo objects.
"Well what did you want?" Kyo
"Um nothing really I was just worried. That's all. You seemed so upset when you left. Don't you want to help out with the festival preparations?" Tohru
"Ugh...What do they need me for? They've got Yuki don't they I doubt anyone's going to miss me. They're always to busy looking to him that's the way it's always been since we were kids. He's always been the smart one, and he knows how to get stuff done, and he's good with people all that. And everyone around him is always telling him how talented he is. He doesn't even have to try, and they look up to him. Anyway it's just like with martial arts I've been training way longer than he has, but he's still better than me." Kyo
Kyo has a flashback from his childhood, and says.
"It makes me sick! I mean what do I have to do to be someone like that you know? Why can't I be more like like him?" Kyo
Tohru remember what Yuki said about Kyo, Tohru understands what the problem is between Yuki and Kyo.
Tohru begins thinking about what she discover, and thinks.
'So Yuki wants to be like Kyo, and Kyo wishes he could be more like Yuki. So why is it that though they secretly admire each other it drives them further apart?' Tohru thinks about these things throughout the day, and even while she is at her job that evening. After leaving work Tohru is thinking 'Why is it that people feel like they have to be like somebody else? Why do they have to feel jealous? If they can see the admirable qualities in somebody else why can't they see the admirable qualities in themselves?' Tohru wakes up the next morning, and is making rice balls for the stand. Kyo comes into the kitchen, and freaks out when he sees all the rice balls spread out all over the counter. Kyo grabs one of the Rice balls, and spits it out the moment he tastes leeks. When Kyo asks why she would make something like that Tohru says.
"Well we're going to try a hit or miss stand remember so that ones a miss. I can make something else for you if you have any ideas." Tohru
"I don't know salmon or cod's ok I guess. Ah forget it I'll just make some myself jeez." Kyo
"Wow that's amazing. The way you make rice balls you're really talented incredible I had no idea." Tohru
"Well when I was out training I had to make all my own meals and stuff. I just make the plain kind nothing fancy." Kyo
Tohru starts babbling, and lays the praise on a little think causing Kyo to leave the room. Tohru can't understand why Kyo can't see that it's admirable, and then it hits her, and she says.
"Maybe the reason you don't see it is that it's stuck to your back. What I mean is a persons admirable qualities they're like say a pickles plum on a rice ball. In other words the persons the rice ball, and the plums stuck to their back. So all over the world you could have rice balls made with all sorts of wonderful ingredients all different flavors, and shapes, and colors, but since they'd be stuck in the middle of everyone's back someone could have plum, and not even know it. They look at themselves, and think I'm so plain nothing but white rice. Even though it isn't true, because turn them around, and sure enough there it is there's the plum. So if someone's jealous of someone else it's probably easier to see the plum on someone else's back then it is on your own. Yep I can see it I can see it very clearly Kyo you don't know it, but you've got a great big plum on your back. Yuki's admirable in his way, and you're admirable in yours." Tohru
Kyo gets embarrassed and huffy, and then clumsily compliments Tohru.
The day of the cultural festival arrives, and Kyo is helping to build the rice ball stand. The other students who are helping to build the stand tease Kyo about the incident with the cats, and Kyo does his utmost to put an end to their teasing. While Tohru is talking to Yuki some senor girls come up to him, and say.
"Oh Yuki!" senor girls
"Hello." Yuki
"Guess what we have a surprise for you it's a present. All the senor girls chipped in and bought it. We thought it would be the greatest thing if you could wear it today." senor girls
"Uh...wear?" Yuki
The senor girls bring it out from behind their backs, and say.
"Ta-DA a one of a kind festival day costume just for you Yuki." senor girls
Yuki looks at the costume as if it is his worst nightmare.
The festival is in full swing, and class 1D's rice balls are selling really well in fact they might even win first place in the food category. It is determined that Yuki Soma's costume might be what is attracting all the customers to their stand. After Kyo explains that Yuki is so upset because of all the embarrassment a munchkin jumps up, and lands on Yuki's shoulders saying.
"Yuki! Yuki you look like a girl." ?
"What the hell? What is that little brat doing here?" Kyo
"That's someone you know then." Tohru
"Momiji you're not to go running off by yourself. Yuki, Kyo I see you're both looking well." ?
"Hatori?" Yuki
"Hi there I'm Momiji Soma and this guy here with me is Hatori Soma, and yeah we're two of Yuki and Kyo's relatives." Momiji
"Oh is that right?" Tohru
"That's right, but never mind Momiji. What's that bastard Hatori doing here?" Kyo
Hatori gives Yuki a checkup, and Kyo says.
"Hatori's a doctor." Kyo
"So why is he here?" Tohru
The examination continues, and Yuki says.
"Couldn't we have found a better time for this?" Yuki
"We did we had an appointment. You should know you can't skip your monthly checkup." Hatori
"Checkup? Yuki why would you need a checkup? Is there something wrong?" Tohru
"Uh sort of." Yuki
"Yuki's bronchial tubes are fairly sensitive. He used to suffer frequent Asama attacks as a child. It's a condition he's gradually growing out of, but we like to be sure. I'm assuming your Tohru Honda." Hatori
"Yes nice to meet you." Tohru
"Indeed. I didn't expect you'd be such an ordinary girl." Hatori
"What?" Tohru
"Hatori!" Yuki
Momiji starts making a ruckus on the rice ball stand, and Kyo says.
"What do you think you're doing you little runt?" Kyo
Kyo then begins trying to extract Momiji from the stand, and Tohru says.
"Excuse me I think they need my help." Tohru
"Get off. Get off the table!" Kyo
While this is happening Yuki and Hatori have a private conversation saying.
"Why did you have to come here?" Yuki
"You can save your complaints for Akito. It was his idea. Of course he originally planed to come himself. He was running another one of his fevers so I made him stay home Doctors orders. As a result he sent me here in his place, and since I was already looking after Momiji for the day he naturally had to come with me." Hatori
"Is this what you call looking after him?" Yuki
"Just be grateful we came late, and there are fewer people here. I know why you are tense don't be. I didn't come for this Tohru Honda today. Weather or not I do in the future is still for Akito to decide." Hatori
"Regardless of that decision doing anything to Tohru's mind would be a big mistake." Sakuya
"Who are you?" Hatori
"Sakuya Watanuki." Sakuya
"Would you explain that statement for me please?" Hatori
"The explanation that goes along with that warning is best given in private. Isn't that right Yuki Soma?" Sakuya
The question reminds him of what was last discussed about the subject, and Yuki says.
"Yes finishing this discussion in private would definitely be for the best." Yuki
Hatori looks between them, and says.
"Very well Sakuya Watanuki we will pick this up later." Hatori
Sakuya walks away, and Yuki sighs in relief.
Kyo manages to extract Momiji from the rice ball stand, smacks him on the head, and says.
"Now you stay here, and sit still." Kyo
"Waaah somebody Kyo hit me." Momiji
"Is everything ok?" Tohru
"Uh, you're Tohru right Tohru Honda. Did I get it right?" Momiji
"Uh huh that's me." Tohru
"Now me guess who I am." Momiji
"You're Momiji." Tohru
"Ah you remembered my name I'm so happy. Tohru let's be friends ok." Momiji
