Chapter 2
The three girls were traveling down the route as they enjoyed the day. "It is bad that I feel excited about going on a journey, but nervous at the same time?" Kairi asked.
"No, cause I'm feeling that way too," Rachel admitted.
"It's going to be great!" Crystal said before she suddenly slipped in a patch of mud and almost went down, but Sawk caught her in time and gently put her on his back, giving her a piggy-back ride. "I'm okay, Sawk."
"Sawk," he replied, still carrying her.
"I think he's going to carry you for a while, Crystal," Rachel said, smiling. "Sawk are known for being stubborn."
"It could be too that he thinks carrying Crystal will help him get a bit stronger," Kairi said. "After all, Sawk do strive to be strong."
Crystal giggled. "But Sawk, you don't have to carry me everywhere, okay?" She asked. "You're not a pack mule. You're a person with feelings too."
"Sawk," the karate Pokemon said, reaching one hand back and gently ruffling his trainer's hair to make her giggle.
"Well, well, knew I'd run into you eventually, Babe," came a voice that made Rachel roll her eyes and they looked to see John come out and he strutted over to them like a male peacock with his feathers all out.
"Ugh, you," Rachel said.
Kairi frowned. "What do you want, John?" She asked, knowing how this boy had hurt her best friend by cheating on her.
"Just wanted to show you all my badges," he said. "I got seven of them already cause I'm so great."
Crystal wrinkled her nose at him while Rachel barely gave the badges he flashed a glance. "And why do you think having seven badges is impressive?" The blonde-haired girl asked. "Don't you need eight to get into the leagues? Cause if you do, you're a penny short of a dollar and a few brain cells off the mark."
Kairi clapped a hand to her mouth to stop the giggle that wanted to escape at the insult Rachel threw at her ex-boyfriend. Crystal outright giggled while Sawk and Sky were laughing too.
John glared at them. "So? I'll get my last badge," he said.
"Oh, please," Kairi said, recovering from her giggles.
"That's supposed to impress us?" Rachel asked.
The boy looked a bit deflated before standing up straight. "It will and then you'll come back to me, Babe," he said.
"STOP CALLING ME THAT!" The blonde-haired girl thundered out, actually making John step back a bit. "I will never come back to you and I'm not your babe. You are a loser who cheats to get what he wants. And that doesn't fly with me."
John went to open his mouth when Crystal spoke up. "Hey, leave my big sister alone you big meanie or else!" She said.
"Or else what, tiny?" John snarked at her.
"I'll beat you in a pokemon battle!"
He laughed mockingly. "You're joking, right? You won't last 5 minutes against me. Then again, it will be a good warm up for my final gym battle."
"If I win, you leave my sister alone!" The little girl said.
"Fine, not like it would matter since I'm gonna win," He said.
"Don't underestimate my sister, John," Rachel said as they headed to the battlefield and she became the referee. "A one-on-one battle! Trainers ready? Begin!"
"Alright Sawk, I choose you!" Crystal said.
"Sawk!" The karate Pokemon said, ready to fight.
"A fighting type. This shouldn't take long. Go Gallade! John said, tossing out a Premier Ball and out came the dual-type Pokemon.
Crystal held the great ball in her hand. "Alright Sawk, let's win this. Use Karate Chop!"
Sawk ran up as one of his hands glowed white, ready to strike the dual type.
"Block it with Night Slash!" John said, to which Gallade's arm glowed purple and extended, blocking the attack with ease as the arrogant man looked at Crystal. "Has the battle even started yet?" He taunted.
"Keep using Karate Chop, Sawk!" The little girl said. Sawk opened as both his hands glowed white and he kept striking the blades Pokemon's Night Slash with the side of his open hand.
"Gallade, use Ariel Ace!"
Both Gallade's arms glowed a light blue and extended as he used one arm to block the Karate Chop and the other struck Sawk with the super effective flying type attack, sending the karate Pokemon flying and landing harshly on his back on the ground.
"Gallade lands an effective move, but will it be enough?" Rachel asked.
"Sawk, can you still battle?!" Crystal called out hopefully.
"Sawk," he nodded, struggling to his feet as he had taken a lot of damage, but he managed to stand up and tightened his belt, ready to keep battling.
"C'mon, is this even a battle? This is just sad," John said.
His bullying her made the little girl mad. "Use Low Kick!" She said.
Sawk ran to kick at Gallade's legs. "Dodge, then use Psycho Cut!" The boy said.
Gallade jumped up in the air, dodging Sawk's Low Kick as both of his forearms glowed purple, growing and extending in the back and he started swinging them repeatedly as multiple purple crescent blades of energy came out of them.
"Sawk, above you!" Crystal cried out.
Sawk looked up and sees the attack from above and crossed his arms to block the psychic attack, but he took a lot of damage as a result.
"Let's finish this; use Close Clombat!" John said.
Both of Gallade's arm blades glowed orange and extended. Soon he was in front of the fighting type and was repeatedly slashing, punching, and kicking Sawk at fast speed before sending him flying and Sawk landed on the ground, creating a cloud of dust before it cleared up, revealing Sawk was beaten and unconscious.
"Sawk!" Crystal cried out, going up to him and trying to rouse him, but she could see he wasn't waking up. She pulled out her great ball. "Sawk, return," she said and he went inside the Pokemon. "You did the best you could. Now rest."
John looked at Rachel, but the girl wouldn't call the winner of the battle. Instead, she stormed over to him. "You think it's cool to take advantage and be a bully to my little sister?" She asked.
As the boy went to open his mouth, she punched him hard and then knocked him down, making him get a mouthful of dirt and grass as Crystal ran off, upset over losing to John. She ran into the forest until she heard some barking and heard a yell.
"Help!" Someone called out.
Determined to answer that call, the young girl ran towards the voice, finding Professor Birch, a good friend of her uncle, climbing a tree as three Poochyenas were barking up that tree and the professor had dropped his bag while being chased.
"Um, Professor Birch?" Crystal said.
He looked to see her. "Huh, oh, you must be Crystal," he said. "Your uncle Charlie told me you and your sister were coming by my lab today." He then remembered he was still in the tree. "Great timing, though. Please open that bag on the ground there and grab any of the pokeballs inside. Hurry!"
The little girl did as she was told while the Poochyenas were still distracted. She saw three pokeballs inside. "Umm, which one of them do you want?" She asked.
"Any one of them will do!" The Professor said.
"Oh! Um, okay. Um, this one!" She said, grabbing a random pokeball and tossing it out. It opened and out came a Treecko.
"Treecko!" It said.
"Alright, a Treecko. Good choice," Professor Birch said. "Now call out one of his attacks!"
"Okay, but um, what are his attacks?" Crystal asked.
"Just say 'use Bullet Seed!'" Came the urgent reply.
"Okay," she said before taking a deep breath. "Treecko, use Bullet Seed on the Poochyenas!"
"Treeeeeeeeckoooooo!" The Pokemon called out, opening his mouth and firing multiple gold seeds surrounded in a light green aura at the Poochyenas, making them stop barking and turn to look at the grass type attack coming their way before they got hit with it, making them retreat and run back into the forest.
"Good work, Treecko!" Crystal cheered before hugging it. "Thanks for helping us."
"Treecko," the Pokemon said, looking a bit bashful.
Professor Birch sighed in relief as he climbed down. "That was close. Thank you again, Crystal. You've really grown since I last saw you and your sister," he said as he picked up his bag and accepted the Pokeball from the girl. "Treecko, return," he said and the grass type went back into the pokeball before the professor looked around before looking back at the child. "So where is your sister?"
"Crystal!" A voice called out.
"Crystal! Where are you?" Another voice called out.
"Rach! Kairi! Over here!" The little girl called out.
Both teens came running out of the forest and up to them, relieved to see the little girl was alright before hugging her sister and looking up at the professor, who smiled.
"Ah, Rachel. It's good to see you again. You've really grown as well since I last saw you," he said.
"Thank you, Professor," the blonde-haired girl said with a smile.
He then looked at the brown-haired girl next to Rachel. "And how has your journey been, Kairi?"
"It's been good so far, Professor, save for us dealing with a bully right now. One that took advantage that Crystal is new to her journey and he knocked out her Sawk," Kairi answered.
"Oh, dear," he said. "I hope it hasn't made you all reconsider your journey."
"No way!" Crystal said. "And next time we meet, I'm going to show that bully!"
Professor Birch smiled. "That's fantastic. Now then, let's all head back to my lab. My car is nearby and I can give you girls a lift there," he said. "After all, you kids are going to needs pokedexs, pokeballs, and little Crystal is going to need a starter Pokemon."
"But I have Sawk," the little girl said.
"Yes, and he's a good Pokemon to have. But your starter Pokemon can grow with you and evolve into its other forms if trained and raised right," the professor said.
"He's right, Crystal," Rachel said with a smile. "Come on. It'll be fun. Plus, unless I miss my guess, you'll have your choice of either Treecko, Mudkip, or Torchic. Am I right, Professor?"
"Yes," he said as they got into his car and went to the lab, excited about getting more things for their journey.
As for Crystal, she began thinking about her starter Pokemon before smiling, knowing exactly who she was going to choose.
