Chapter 5
It was next day as the girls traveled down route 118 after resting in the Pokemon Center and both Kairi and Crystal finished watching a battle until they saw a group of people heading in one direction with them all having fishing rods. They asked one of them where they were going and was told that there was a fishing contest happening today and the girls followed, curious until they reached the place where there was a large lake nearby.
"Welcome all water fans to the annual fishing contest here in the Hoenn region!" The announcer on the stage said. "Now let me explain the rules of our fishing competition: you are permitted to catch as many water type Pokemon as you can within our competition time limit, however...," he pulled out a Lake Ball. "...you are only allowed to enter one water type that must be captured in your Lake ball. At the end of the competition we will weigh each trainer's Pokemon and whoever caught the heaviest one wins. First prize is this trophy and you will get to keep the Pokemon you caught." He then showed them the large gold trophy. "You may only use one Pokemon to help you capture your water type and you must register that Pokemon when you sign up."
This got Kairi fired up as she loved water types and fishing. "Let's join up, girls!" She said.
"Sure," Rachel said with a smile.
"Okay," Crystal said.
They were all soon signed in with Crystal selected Treecko to help her and Rachel selected Sky, who was eager to help. Kairi selected Primarina and once their online registrations were complete, they grabbed fishing rods and went to find a good spot on the lake.
"Let's win this, Primarina!" Kairi said excitedly.
"Primarina!" The Pokemon said happily.
Someone laughed cruelly. You really think you can win with such a weak girly Pokemon like that?" A voice sneered.
This got on Kairi's nerves as she saw a young man with brown hair and green eyes, wearing a shirt, sleeveless jacket, pants, shoes, and a baseball cap. "Yes," she said firmly. "And who are you?"
"I'm Nathan and I'm the best fisher where I come from in my home region of Unova, especially with my partner right here."
He pulled out a Dive ball and out came Eelektross. As it was a Pokemon they've never seen before, Rachel pulled out her Pokedex for them to learn more.
"Eelektross, the Eel Fish Pokemon and the evolved form of Eelektrik. Eelektross' mouth locks on to its opponents where it delivers an electric shock," the computer said.
"You see, Eelektross is one of my strongest Pokemon and can beat any water type Pokemon so you don't stand a chance, so why don't you and your pathetic girly Pokemon call quits and fish in the little kiddie pool?" Nathan said as he signed up for the competition. "Later loser," he left with a laugh, leaving Kairi furious.
Crystal glared at the boy. "Don't be so sure that you're going to win!" She called out to him.
Rachel didn't say a word, but looked at the girls and indicated to the lake, where she had seen some boats for the competition and they selected one just as the horn blew to announce the beginning of the competition, going out on the lake and finding a good spot to start fishing and waiting.
"Don't let that creep get to you two," Rachel said. "He's just an arrogant boy who is going to get schooled one day."
"I hope so," Kairi said firmly. "He needs a lesson in manners."
Crystal gasped as she felt something tug her fishing line. "Oh, I got a bite! I got a bite!" She said excitedly as she tried to reel it in.
Rachel stood up. "Hold it steady, sis," she said. "Keep reeling in the line."
Crystal did so and managed to pull up a Goldeen, who started heading towards them, ready to use Horn Attack. "Alright, Treecko, use Bullet Seed!" The little girl said quickly, to which Treecko opened his mouth and fired multiple gold seeds surrounded in a light green aura at Goldeen, who winced as it got hit by the super effective grass type move. The little girl quickly threw out the Lake Ball.
"Go, Lake Ball!" She called out, successfully catching Goldeen inside. "Look! I caught a Goldeen!"
"Great job, Crystal," Kairi said with a smile.
"Awesome job, sis," Rachel said before feeling a tug on her line. "Hey, I got a bite too!" She said before reeling it in, finding a Corphish at the end of her line and it wasn't happy about being caught. It turned and opened his claws, firing blue bubbles at Rachel.
"Bubble beam!" Kairi called out warningly.
"Sky! Counter that with Gust!" Rachel called out.
The Zubat did so, his wings glowing light blue as he flapped them at high speed, creating a gust of wind that countered the water-type attack and pushed it away from them. Corphish jumped up and headed straight for Sky, opening his claws to use Vise Grip, but Rachel was faster. "Quick! Use Supersonic!" She said urgently.
Sky opened his mouth and released multiple small light-blue sound waves at the Corphish, confusing the Ruffian Pokemon and making him miss his target with his Vise Grip. Rachel decided to take the opportunity to catch the Corphish while he was confused. "Lake Ball, go!" She called out, tossing out the ball and catching Corphish successfully. "Alright! I caught him!"
Just then, they heard Nathan's voice. "This one's a fighter," he said. "Get ready, Eelektross!"
The girls looked over to see him reeling in something huge, and that something turned out to be a large blue Gyarados. "Alright, we hit the jackpot!" Nathan said happily. "Eelektross, use Thunderbolt!"
The eel-like Pokemon released a powerful bolt of electricity from its body at Gyarados, who opened his mouth and he fired a dark purple beam of energy with a dark black energy around it before using Hyper Beam to counter the electric-type attack, which created a giant explosion as the two attacks collided.
"Now use Crush Claw!" The boy exclaimed.
Eelektross' claws glowed read and he jumped up and smashed his claws down on the Atrocious Pokemon, landing a direct hit. "Now use Thunderbolt again!" Nathan said eagerly.
Eelektross did so, landing the super-effective attack this time and the boy tossed out his ball. "Alright, Lake Ball, go!" He cheered, capturing the large Pokemon successfully. "Alright, I think this is our best catch yet, Eelektross," he said eagerly. "It's a guaranteed win for us."
He then looked over at the girls who were watching him and he smirked, deciding to taunt Kairi. "Haven't you and your girly Pokemon caught anything yet?" He asked.
"Hmph, no not yet," Kairi admitted.
"Five minutes!" The announcer said. "The competition will end in five minutes!"
Nathan laughed nastily. "Looks like we're gonna win this year's competition," he said. "You better hurry if you and your girly Pokemon want to win, not like it would matter anyway."
"Watch it, buster," Rachel growled. "Or I'll ask Sky to make you deaf for days."
"And I'll ask Treecko to Bullet Seed your stupid boat!" Crystal said.
Nathan smirked. "Whatever," he said before driving away. "Later, loser."
Kairi was fuming now. "I'll show that jerk," she said, waiting patiently for a bite and she soon got one. "I got a bite!" She exclaimed before trying to reel it in, but having a hard time. "Girls, help me. I can't pull it in."
Both sisters grabbed onto the rod and all three pulled with all their might and out came a large Pokemon, one that none of them had been expecting and they were stunned. "Is that...what I think it is?" Rachel asked.
Kairi pulled out her Pokedex to double check if she was seeing things or not too.
"Milotic, the Tender Pokemon, and the evolved form of Feebas. Milotics live in deep lakes with clear water, they appear when conflict is imminent calming people's hearts, and said to be the most beautiful Pokemon in the world," her Pokedex said.
The teenage girl double checked the picture and saw she wasn't seeing things as this Milotic was a different color. Her long 'hair' was light blue instead of pink/red and her tail was gold/yellow instead of blue. "A shiny Milotic," she breathed out before smiling. "Wow, I'm definitely catching her. Let's go, Primarina!"
Milotic opened her mouth to release a powerful blast of water at Primarina.
"Quick! Use Sparkling Aria!" Kairi said.
Primarina stood on her tail and started singing, forming an orb of water above her head and throwing it at the incoming Hydro Pump, making the two water attacks collide and causing drops of water to splash everywhere from the collision. "Now us Aqua Jet!" Kairi commanded.
Primarina's body became surrounded by water and she shot herself like a rocket at the other water type, to which Milotic used Aqua Tail, her tail becoming surrounded by swirling water, countering the attack and ending the attack in a draw before spinning her tailfins like a fan and a tornado came out, heading towards the Soloist Pokemon.
"Look out! It's Twister!" Rachel called out worriedly.
Thankfully, Kairi remembered dragon type moves had no effect on fairy types and she quickly made her counterattack. "Use Moonblast!" She said.
Primarina gathered energy to form a pink orb in front of her hands and she fired it at the incoming dragon type move. Moonblast easily broke through the incoming Twister and landed a direct hit on Milotic. Kairi knew the battle would draw out if she didn't take the opportunity then with the competition almost over and she quickly threw out the Lake Ball, hoping to catch the shiny Milotic. "Alright, go Lake Ball!" She said.
Crystal and Rachel watched with baited breath as the ball shook before settling and they breathed a sigh of relief. "Just in time," Rachel said as Kairi picked up the ball and the blonde-haired girl quickly got the boat going. "Hang on!"
They made it just in time to the shore as the announcer's voice came to them. "And now last but certainly not least is Nathan and his Eelektross!"
Nathan tossed out the Lake Ball and out came the Gyarados he caught on the scale. "Let's see what the scale says here," the announcer said and the results soon came in. "This Gyarados weighs 200 kilograms!"
Nathan grinned. "Alright, looks like I'm number 1...," he was cut off by Kairi as she ran up to the stage.
"Wait a second!" She said. "This Milotic I caught is pretty big too."
"Took all three of us to lift it out of the water," Rachel said.
"And it's a shiny one too!" Crystal said.
The crowd murmured in awe as Kairi tossed the Lake Ball and out came Milotic for all to see and everyone was in awe at seeing it was indeed a shiny one as it sat on the scale. The announcer looked and gasped. "This Milotic weighs 200 kilograms too!" He announced.
"I guess it's a tie," Kairi said.
Nathan looked at her, annoyed that he tied with her. "The rules say that there can only be one winner, so how do we decide who wins?" He asked.
"The trainers and their Pokemon partners must face off in a winner take all pokemon battle!" The announcer said.
"Then we'll beat these weak losers and take home the trophy and Gyarados, right, Eelektross?"
"We are not losers and we won't lose, right Primarina?" Kairi said, to which her Pokemon nodded.
"Good luck, Kairi," Rachel said.
"Show that bully that he's not all he thinks he is," Crystal said, making a few people chuckle and the boy glared at her.
Soon, they head to the water battlefield, ready for the battle. "This battle will determine the winner of the competition between Kairi and her Primarina and Nathan and his Eelektross! Good luck and let the battle begin!" The announcer said.
"Alright, Eelektross, let's win this! Use Acid!" Nathan commanded.
The eel Pokemon released a stream of violet acid from his mouth. "Primarina, use Sparkling Aria!" Kairi said, to which the Soloist Pokemon did, singing as an orb of water formed above her head and she threw it at the incoming poison attack, both attacks colliding and creating a loud explosion.
"Use Crunch!" Came Nathan's voice and Eelektross came out of the smoke with his teeth glowing white, ready to bite his opponent.
"Quick! Dive underwater!" Kairi said, to which Primarina did to avoid the attack, making the eel Pokemon miss his target.
Nathan smirked. "Perfect," he said. "Eelektross, dive after Primarina!"
He did so and Kairi was surprised to see the non water type swim so well and catch up to the water/fairy type Pokemon so quickly. "Alright, time to unleash our secret plan," the boy said. "Use Thunderbolt in the water!"
Eelektross released a powerful bolt of yellow electricity from his body and electrocuted the water and Primarina, who got hit with that super effective electric attack.
"Primarina, get out of the water quick!" Kairi said.
Primarina managed to get out of the water and on one of the platforms but had taken a lot of damage from the Thunderbolt.
Nathan laughed nastily. "I told you your girly Pokemon wouldn't stand a chance against me," he said as Eelektross' head came above the water.
"Then we'll just attack from here; use Sparkling Aria again!"
Primarina did so. "Dodge it, Eelektross!" The boy said and his Pokemon did so, avoiding the attack and he kept popping up from the water now and then, just taunting and confusing Primarina of where he'll strike next.
"You can't win, loser. you get in the water, you'll get shocked and you can't attack us out of water either since Eelektross can dodge it easily, so your pathetic girly pokemon doesn't stand a chance," Nathan said, laughing.
He's right. Eelektross can easily dodge our attacks in the water and will use Thunderbolt if Primarina gets into the water, what do I do? Kairi thought to herself before she suddenly remembered a strategy she saw on T.V when watching Jason's match with Crystal that could help her out. Seeing Nathan still laughing, she needed to act fast.
"Primarina, use Aqua Jet quick and get Eelektross out of the water!" She said.
Primarina's body becomes surrounded by water and she shot herself like a rocket into the water. Nathan stopped laughing at seeing the Soloist Pokemon gone. "It's no use, loser. Eelektross, give them a Thunderbolt they won't forget!"
Eelektross went to do so, but got hit with Aqua Jet as Primarina slammed into him and launching them both out of the water.
"Use Ice Beam on the water!" The teenage girl said.
Primarina opened her mouth as a light blue ball formed in front of her mouth, firing light blue beams from the ball at the water, freezing it solid as they both landed on the ground.
Nathan looked shocked, obviously caught off guard. "What the..., what did you do?!" He asked, bewildered.
Kairi smiled. "It's obvious, really. To stop your little plan, I had Primarina use Ice Beam on the water so you couldn't shock us or hide from us," she said.
Nathan got really annoyed. "Why you…Eelektross, use Crush Claw!"
Eelektross' claws glowed red and he started charging towards Primarina.
"Dodge it quick!"
Primarina dodged it as Eelektross's Crush Claw smashed down on the ice ground. "Keep using Crush Claw!" Nathan demanded.
Eelektross kept using Crush Claw but kept missing as Primarina dodged gracefully, which made the eel Pokemon start to tire out. Nathan then began losing his cool. "C'mon Eelektross, hit her! We can't lose to a bunch of girly losers!"
"Primarina, use Ice Beam!" Kairi said right then.
Primarina did so and the attack froze Eelektross solid. "Now use Moonblast!" Kairi told her Pokemon.
Primarina used the effective attack, shattering the ice surrounded Eelektross and sending ice shards everywhere. When the smoke cleared, it showed the eel Pokemon free from the ice but knocked out.
"Eelektross, no!" Nathan exclaimed.
"Eelektross is unable to battle! Primarina wins, which makes Kairi and Primarina are this year's competition winners!" The announcer said.
"Alright, Kairi!" Rachel and Crystal cheered, proud of their friend.
On the stage after the battle, the announcer smiled. "Congratulations to this year's winners: Kairi and Primarina! Here are your prizes," he said, handing Kairi the trophy. "And you may also keep the Milotic you caught as well." He returned it to her Pokeball and handed it to Kairi as well.
"Thank you," she said happily as Nathan stormed off, mad that he had lost to a girl.
Little did they know, trouble was going to strike soon.
As the girls left the fishing competition behind them and continued their journey, two mysterious figures watched them leave.
"So that's the shiny Milotic the Professor sent us to get for his research," the mysterious guy said.
"Let's see where they head off too. We'll cut them off and take the shiny Milotic and the rest of their Pokemon," the mysterious girl said as they headed out.
Hmm. Trouble, it seems? We shall see.
Please leave robotman25 and myself a review, but no flames!
