Digimon TCG: Transcendent Bonds And The Princess of Omnia

[Cisco City, January 2050 AD…]

"I'll start by hatching Pinamon, who'll digivolve into Palmon, and then I'll play the Level 5 Eosmon from my hand."

I anticipatorily watched as a little chick-like creature suddenly appeared from a stream of green zeroes and ones. Seconds later, that same chick morphed into a lime-green and pink mandrake creature with purple vines for nails. Afterward, contrasting the mandrake was a cybernetic butterfly-like humanoid, hexagonal patterns making up its body. Height-wise, it was about as tall as the redhead who summoned it. Said redhead stared back at me, her eyes hinting excitement about what was coming.

With the counter hanging over our heads switching to black, indicating the start of my turn, I drew. I had so many questions, and to get any sort of answers, I needed to beat her. Though, I guess I should explain the situation before I get too ahead of myself.

For starters, my name is Zack. The girl before me is Eve. And the creatures that she summoned using the smartwatch and the cards? They're called Digimon. For now, that's all you need to know for the time being.

Sorry, I got too much on my mind to multitask.

I drew for turn and went into action. "I Hatch!"

Waving my free arm, a small, furry, purple, and white baby dragon heeded my command; stubbly legs and tail, a wide jaw covered in white fur, and a body resembling a couch pillow. It was the best way I could describe this little thing as I'd never seen it before now. My smartwatch—known as a D-Streamer—lit up with its name and stats.

Dorimon (BT7-005)

"Dorimon..." I said out loud. The little dragon pillow turned to acknowledge me, humming with a low mutter. Despite seeing it for the first time, I found it weird how familiar it seemed. Pulling another card from my hand, I revealed it to her before swiping it over my own smartwatch. "I digivolve Dorimon into Sunarizamon."

Immediately a stream of black binary encircled Dorimon and transformed it into a similarly sized lizard Digimon, whose body was sand-like and rock-like scales.

I drew for digivolving and was immediately greeted by "Dorumon," a more mature version of Dorimon, with proper limbs and tiny black wings. It had an "On Play" ability that seemed handy.

"I then play Dorumon from my hand. When played, Dorumon reveals the top 3 cards of my deck, allowing me to add 1 Digimon with X-Antibody in its traits and a Kota Domoto to my hand. The rest of which go to the bottom of the deck.

Dorumon landed before me, letting out a small roar while its tiny black wings twitched. It, too, gave me that sense of familiarity like Dorimon.

Level 3 Digimon that had abilities to search like this typically had low power. That said, they were almost always essential to a deck's strategy. This one's ability to search for X-Antibody Digimon stuck out in my mind. If I was right, then the familiarity I'm feeling isn't coincidental.

The top three cards of my deck revealed themselves: Dorugoramon, a Level 6 silver dragon Digimon I could only assume was Dorumon's final form, Megadramon, and Sealsdramon; a blocker-granter and an actual blocker, respectively. Dorugoramon lit up, telling me that it fit the criteria for Dorumon's effect, as expected, and so I took it while the other two went to the bottom. I have no clue what Eve's deck has in store, but what I'm hoping is that losing two options for blockers wasn't going to be a detriment.

"Dorumon digivolves into Dorugamon, and then I play Commandramon from my hand to end my turn."

Black binary poured from above, surrounding Dorumon. The red gem on its forehead suddenly lit up, and we watched as it grew larger. Its purple fur turned into a pale navy color, while its claws became crimson-colored. Its fluffy tail and limbs grew muscle mass, and its tiny black wings grew more robust and draconic. When it finished transforming, its roar carried weight, so much that it scared some bystanders not far from us.

As Commandramon—a small dinosaur Digimon with camo-colored scales and military equipment—materialized alongside Dorugamon, those same bystanders approached from behind Eve. At first, I grew suspicious until I saw others watching and coming.

"Looks like we have an audience," Eve commented as the small crowd developed.

Unsettling as it was, it was something that wasn't unusual. This was a society embracing AI and everything related, after all. One where Digimon are nothing but a cultural avenue of entertainment for all ages. Eve and I are battling for answers, yet to our audience, we're likely two kids cutting school to play a children's card game.

"It's my turn!" Eve declared as she drew. Her mannerisms looked like something straight out of a card game anime. The way some were fixated on her encouraged it. "Palmon moves to the Battle Area, then Eosmon attacks your Security!"

Palmon dashed up, and Eosmon went in for the attack. As one would, I crossed my arms, hunkering down for the first strike. Before me, a holographic rectangle with a heart-engraved lock symbol in the middle came in between Eosmon and me, shattering once Eosmon smashed it with its extended limbs.

"Security Check!" I stated, holding my hand out. But before I could check it, I was taken aback by seeing the white stream of binary on Eve's side.

"When Eosmon Level 5 attacks, I can play another Level 5 or lower Eosmon from my hand.

This version of Eosmon was the Level 4 variant. Its design was simpler, blockier, and more petite than the Level 5 variant; it was a child compared to an older teen sibling if I had to word it accurately.

"And when Eosmon Level 4 enters play, We're both allowed to play one Tamer from our hands, though the one I play has to be White. From my hand, I play the Tamer Menoa Bellucci."

And just like that, a Tamer in the form of a young woman appeared. Reddish-brown hair braided down her right side and tied together with a butterfly pin, she wore a short-sleeve white blouse and a black skirt, along with shoes that matched her hair. Seeing their slight resemblance, this Tamer must've had something to do with her strategy.

As if I needed the invitation. "Security Check! Sealsdramon with 6000 DP!"

The SEALS-themed Dragonoid Digimon materialized and went into action with its combat knife, diving for Eosmon, who attempted to block him. After a brief scuffle, they both landed fatal blows, bursting into binary.

After a brief reaction from the crowd, Eve continued, "Of course, I have no intention of stopping there. Palmon digivolves into Eosmon Level 4, and then to end my turn, I play Terriermon."

Palmon then curled into a fetal position as white binary encapsulated it and transformed into a second Level 4 Eosmon. Afterward, Terriermon, a green-striped, cream-colored rabbit-dog Digimon, materialized to make my life miserable. Its ability to lock my Memory boosting to Tamers was a hindrance, especially if any of these new Digimon had a Memory Boosting ability somewhere.

I drew for turn. If given the opportunity, she might just try and rush me. Looking at the card I drew, it was named DoruGreymon. I quickly read its effect, noticed the second copy in hand, and had an idea.

"Sunarizamon moves to the Battle Area!" I declared, signaling my sand lizard to march forward. "Dorugamon digivolves into DoruGreymon!"

By swiping the card, Dorugamon grew even more in size with the aid of the black binary. Its fur became scarlet with black stripes, and its wings grew along with it, becoming silver and gaining an additional smaller pair behind it. Gold ornaments hung from its wings and braided tail, and a sharp, jagged horn protruded from its snout, partially covering the red gem that remained prominent.

Dorugamon's IE also adds +1000 DP since DoruGreymon has the X-Antibody trait itself, and Dorumon's IE grants me a Memory for adding to its sources."

"Let's go, Double Security Attack!" I declared, pointing directly towards Eve. My dragon responded in kind, taking toward the sky to gain room to attack. Taking a deep breath, a massive cluster of iron generated before it, being fired down on Eve. Some spectators reacted, but Eve stood her ground as her two Security lined up to intercept.

I watched, expecting the worse to come out of her Security. It's rare to get such an attack off Scott-free like this. The first one cracked under pressure and revealed itself: Wormmon, a small green worm Digimon.

DoruGreymon: 8000 DP

Morphomon was left to suffer the attack, and watching its small body crumble into binary twisted my stomach. Rather than be bothered by it, Eve looked as if she was eager to punish me for it.

"Commandramon, you're up! Security Attack!" I'd rather not find out what else she has planned. Better I end things as quickly as possible.

Commandramon heeded my instructions, aiming their rifle and taking shots at her next Security. That broke as well, revealing the contents.

Eve

Security: 3-2

"There we go! Security Trigger: Cutting Edge!" Eve exclaimed as the Security revealed its contents. "I can play one Level 5 or lower Eosmon from my hand, and that'll allow me to delete one of your Digimon with DP less than the summoned Digimon. I play another Level 5 Eosmon from my hand, allowing me to delete one of your Digimon with 6000 DP or less. I delete Sunarizamon!"

An obvious choice as it was the only one I didn't attack with yet. With its laser vision, the new level 5 Eosmon materialized and cut down Sunarizamon. I was hoping to end the turn by digivolving it into Sealsdramon, but that option's out. I reluctantly played Sealsdramon straight from my hand, pushing the counter to 5 in her favor.

"That's quite generous of you," Eve noted. "I can do a lot with that."

"With only two cards in your hand? I doubt that." I said as she drew. Little did I realize she was about to prove me wrong.

"I hatch a Level 2 Argomon to start," she began, summoning the green jellyfish Digimon. Looking at it reminded me of another particular Digimon that caused plenty of issues before all of this. Though, if she's using it, then I doubt it's tied to anything malicious…

I hope.

"Argomon then digivolves into Morphomon, followed by Eosmon Level 4 attacking Commandramon."

It was hard to focus on both at once. Immediately Morphomon appeared again in Eve's raising area, and before I knew it, Eosmon Level 4 was in my peripheral, getting into it with Commandramon.

Commandramon dodged Eosmon's initial strike, flipping over it and aiming its weapon at its backside. However, Eosmon began to glow green, then it teleported behind Commandramon and struck it down before it could realize what happened. Commandramon burst before my eyes in black binary while Eosmon floated back to its spot.

"Eosmon Level 5, Security Attack! I use your ability to summon a second Level 5 Eosmon." Eve declared as the Level 5 clone materialized. While the first one launched towards me, she followed up on her statement, "By playing the new Level 5, Menoa suspends, allowing me to reveal the top 3 cards of my deck. From them, I can retrieve a Tamer or an Eosmon to add to my hand." Eve snapped her fingers, summoning three cards before her to unveil. They were a Tamer card called "Analog Boy," yet another Eosmon Level 5, and Eosmon Level 6; the version of Eosmon that was the most recognizable of all of them.

As expected, she took the Level 6 variant.

The Eosmon Level 5 came down on my next Security, the eyes lighting up behind the visor. The Security card shattered before us and revealed the contents.

"Nice! Security Trigger: Kota Domoto. When he enters play, I reveal the top 4 cards of my deck, and from them, I add a card with X-Antibody in its traits into my hand."

Casting my hand forth, I summoned the four cards, which revealed themselves to be: Black Memory Boost, Dorugamon, DoruGreymon, and Volcanomon. I took Dorugamon and sent the others to the bottom.

"And now, I play the Option Card: Win Rate 60%," Eve revealed. "By discarding a matching colored Digimon from my hand, the next time I digivolve, the cost is reduced by 4. I discard another Level 5 Eosmon to digivolve my newly summoned Eosmon into the Maiden of the Dawning Era: Eosmon Level 6!"

Her Eosmon Level 5 floated above us and the crowd watching, and we all stared as the sunlight caused the encircling binary shimmer in a spectrum of colors. The audience was left in awe as Eosmon Level 6 made her appearance. A giant, goddess-like butterfly Digimon clad in gold and sapphire; that was Eosmon.

"Thanks to our Tamers, Eosmon can retrieve the two Eosmon Level 5 in my Trash and utilize them as sources for itself," Eve explained, holding her device upward. The white streams of binary spiraled into the air, and Eosmon took in the stream, growing empowered by it. Afterward, it set its sights on DoruGreymon…

Suddenly, DoruGreymon was fitted with a hexagonal disc around its body. My Digimon let out a pained roar that completely caught me off guard. My attention diverted to Eve, who had an annoying smirk on her face.

"When at least two Eosmon are added with this effect, I get to delete one of your Digimon, regardless of Level or DP."

Crap! Of all things that could—wait. I turned, noticing that DoruGreymon was still standing. Eve was equally surprised and moreso when DoruGreymon's pained cries turned ferocious. The hexagonal disc that sectioned it was crushed by DoruGreymon's muscles, shattering to the shock of everyone. I decided to double-check its effect for clarification.

"…how?" Eve was stumped, watching her Ace's effect nullify without explanation. After going over the effect, I looked back at her. I couldn't tell her that I missed the timing of the effect just then.

"DoruGreymon's invincibility lasts until the end of your turn," I stated with a confident smirk. "Eosmon's ability had zero effect."

Eve's face immediately switched from confidence to shock and then irritation. Had it not been for the audience, who was also reeling from the revelation, I'm sure she would've pulled her hair out.

"What were they thinking designing something like that?!" Eve exclaimed, startling some. I swear when I see that jerk, I'm going to—"

"Uh…" I interrupted her brief rant.

Eve quickly composed herself, pointed towards me, and barked a command, "Eosmon Level 4 Security Attack.

Said Eosmon went into action, smacking away another Security. Tankmon, with 6000 DP, rolled out and fired several shots at Eosmon before it could escape back to its post, taking out the Digimon in response.

"Sorry about before, the one who created the Dorumon line didn't give me the details. Part of me feels like he had no intention either…"

I had to pause. What did she mean by that? "Aren't you…?"

"Save the questions for afterward," She replied. "As you can see, I'm irritated as is."

Again, caught off guard. It looked like that switch ran deeper than I thought.

"My move, then." I drew and looked at the card drawn—just another Dorumon. I still had my Dorugoramon from several turns back as well. "I hatch another Dorimon and digivolve it into Dorumon."

The Dorumon I just drew materialized in my Raising Area. With it situated, I took Dorugoramon and swiped, "Legendary Beast of the X-Antibody, unleash your mighty powers against those who stand against you! DoruGreymon digivolves into Dorugoramon!"

To further add salt to her wound, DoruGreymon roared as black binary came down on it. It reformed into a bipedal dragon clad in silver and navy-colored armor with golden accents along its navy-colored wings and limbs. Its singular horn was now split in two, going along the sides of its head, with the gem continuing to shine bright red.

I stared at Eve while she clicked her tongue at the sight of Dorugoramon. It was clear that something was off about her, between the crypticness of this match and her behavior. It's like I'm dealing with a totally—wait! That's the only explanation!

"What's this all about?" I called out to her, causing her to shift focus.

"Like I said, you're going to have to beat me for answers," Eve replied, not willing to answer me.

I sighed a bit and adhered to her direction. "During my turn, Dorugoramon gets +1000 DP for each card in its source with X-Antibody in its traits. The Dorugamon, Dorumon, and the two DoruGreymons have a total of +4000 DP. Dorugamon's IE gives +1000 DP as well."

Dorugoramon: 11,000-16,000 DP

"Dorugoramon, Attack her Security! I now activate its effect; when attacking, I can add one card with X-Antibody in its traits into its sources to delete up to two of your Digimon with a play cost equal to or less than the total number of cards underneath it. Adding Dorugamon makes five cards, meaning I can delete both Wormmon and Eosmon Level 5 in one shot!"

Dorugoramon roared and ignited its claws, throwing ahead of it two flaming balls of fire that hit both Wormmon and Eosmon Level 5 and lit them into binary.

"Also, the new Dorugamon gives Dorugoramon +1000 DP, and Dorumon's IE grants a Memory.

Eve watched as Dorugoramon took to the sky above us, igniting itself in a cloak of fire. Then, like a meteor, Dorugoramon came crashing down, with her remaining two Security blocking the attack. Unfortunately, a pair of Eosmon Level 5s were all that responded as her last line of defense. And try as they did, Dorugoramon's chaotic expression overwhelmed the pair of robotic butterflies and completed its crash landing, sending the area around us shaking from impact and stirring up holographic smoke.

As it cleared, Sealsdramon was already at Eve's throat with its combat knife, holding her steady while she sneered at his presence.

"Sealsdramon attacks you directly for game," I concluded. With no options on her end to block, she threw her hands up and conceded.

The small audience who didn't run from Dorugoramon's crash landing was applauding and whistling at us. It once more reminded me of how different this world was. Cheering instead of screams, clapping instead of boots marching on scorched pavement, and smiles instead of tears.

I know I have a lot to explain. Just give me a bit more time while I get her to explain some things to me. But of course, as I was moving towards her, several spectators suddenly ambushed me.

"That was amazing! I've never seen Digimon like those before. Where did you get them?!" One of them asked.

I couldn't help but blink. While I did recognize Eosmon and her many forms, Dorumon and friends were just as mysterious to me as well.

"This match between you two was a SAIBA Enterprise marketing stunt, right? To hype up the upcoming tournament season?" Another jumped in.

"Tournament? What tournament?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Nah, dude, the official exhibition match is this weekend." The first one replied.

"Okay, then explain why the Princess of Omnia suddenly graced us with her presence?" A third asked, drawing attention to himself. "What?"

"You seriously need to stop calling her that, bro."

"Wha—but that's her nickname!"

"On social media, yeah. In real life, it's cringy at best."

"Wha—cringy?! How dare you!"

"Jeez, dude didn't realize you were a simp for redheads."

OKAY! Yeah, this was my cue to leave. The last thing I wanted to do was be asked my opinion about Eve—which is pure confusion as it stands now. As for why that is? You already know what I'm about to say.

As the small group fought amongst themselves, I managed to sneak around them, catching Eve further down talking to herself. Assuming she was talking on the phone, I took the chance to run up to her, catching bits of her conversation as I grew closer.

"You should've told me that the X-Antibody prototypes would be powerful! Thanks to you, I was completely blindsided—! What—of course, I'm upset, you moron! Ugh, my god, the second I get back, I'm going to recalibrate them so they could pose more of a personally—! He still has the D-Streamer—DAMMIT!"

By the time she spun around, I had already reached her. She jumped at the sight of me, and reactively I smirked, enjoying her tantrum more than I thought I would. I don't know, something about cocky adults acting like children.

At least, I'm assuming she's older than me.

"I'll call you back." she hung up on her headset and gave me her full attention. "You have questions. So do I."

"Isn't this the part where you say you have the answers?" I asked.

"Why were you calling me 'Eve' back there?" She asked.

I furrowed my brow. "Why wouldn't I…?"

"What, were you referring to my AI?" she asked. She followed her question by activating her D-Streamer and summoning a miniature Morphomon onto her shoulder. "Eve, you said this was the boy, right?"

I naturally grew shocked. "Wait! That's Eve?!"

Morphomon nodded, "My name is Eve, Melanie Whitaker's personal AI assistant."

I blinked. The formality of the way Morphomon spoke contrasted with the Morphomon I knew. Or rather, 'formal' maybe wasn't the right word for it…soulless perhaps? Either way, this was yet something else that needed an explanation.

"Okay…so then I assume that you're…?"

"Dr. Melanie Whitaker, that's correct." She confirmed.

"Doctor? You're joking. You've gotta be around my age."

"How many eighteen-year-olds do you know have their undergrad in Biocybernetics?"

"I guess one, by the looks of it," I answered. "Anyway, that aside, what's going on? What's with this world? And…" I hesitated to ask this question, but it was important to get it out there.

"…how are you alive?"

Melanie bit the inside of her lip as if she was contemplating answering that. I was beginning to wonder if she even had an answer after several seconds of silence from her.

Before I could get an answer, her phone went off. She groaned, rolled her eyes, held her finger up to tell me to hold on, and answered while turning her back.

"Ivan, I swear to—Sir! I—yes, I realize that, but you see—right. Uh-huh. Okay. I'll be there shortly!"

She hung up, arms drooping forward with another groan. "I'm so screwed…!"

"Um…?" I leaned in, reminding her that I was still here.

Turning to me, she revealed her exhausted expression. It was clear that she wasn't in the mood, a stark contrast to our first meeting over thirty minutes ago.

"Listen, kid, come to SAIBA Enterprise this afternoon if you want answers. They've been able to answer some of mine, so I assume they can answer yours too."

"You can't take a second to explain why you have EOS in a deck? Or what exactly these X-Antibody Digimon are? Or even why you dragged me out here?"

"Will. Explain. Later." she said each word for emphasis. "Right now, I'm about to be chewed out by my superior. Mentally, I need to prepare for that. Too freaking early to be chastised like a child…."

Given her attitude, I'd say it was warranted, whatever the reason was.

"Fine; I'll hold you to that then." I agreed, watching her walk up a nearby staircase to the street above the incline. I followed behind to make sure she heard me.

"Don't worry, you're probably not gonna hear anything unfamiliar to someone like you," She replied as she made her way to a black SUV with a livery driver standing at the passenger door, reading on his tablet. It looked like he was standing there for a while; he practically scrambled when she approached the car.

After he opened the door, she turned back to me, "After all, you used to be Alphamon."

My pause allowed her to get into the vehicle and for them to drive off. I was so taken aback by the statement I hardly knew where to begin. "Used to be…?"

For some reason, I looked down at the D-Streamer she handed me before. It contained a deck that looked similar to mine, yet it had notable changes, namely Dorumon's line of cards.

And they each had the X-Antibody in them.

I had all day to figure that out. In the meantime, it was already late, and unless I wanted to get caught by truancy, I needed to get back to Riverbed. Thankfully, the bus stop nearby can take me to the train station, and I can go to school from there. Guess while I wait, I can finally explain things. Bear with me because it's gonna be a bit of a trip to school from here, and I need to kill time.

Guess we can start from the beginning. About three and a half years ago, my mom and little cousin were killed in an event known as Millennium Day. It was a day when real-life Digimon suddenly popped up and caused chaos in the city. Others were also killed, with me surviving thanks to AEGIS, an FBI branch specializing in cyber-terrorism. Several months ago, I learned that the Student Council at my school and the Headmaster were planning something using the Digimon, once thought to have been secured by AEGIS.

While that was going on, I ran into a trio of Digimon myself; BanchoLeomon, who escaped from AEGIS with another Digimon named Morphomon, and Darkdramon, the Digimon hunting them. Morphomon disguised herself as my dead cousin Evie, and BanchoLeomon, whose core was infused into Darkdramon, sometimes took the form of my uncle Darren, Evie's father. One way or another, I made friends with two classmates, Nick, and Mikayla, who were members of the Student Council. My former best friend Wallace and his girlfriend Isabella were also council members, and I attempted to join them to help uncover the mystery of the Digimon still existing. However, Mikayla found herself on the side of a blackmail scandal, and this eventually led to Me facing Wallace on the school's campus. It became the night when Chaosmon first made its appearance.

Chaosmon was a fusion of BanchoLeomon and Darkdramon, thanks to Evie and my emotions, it seemed. I also learned that the Student Council had the Digimon because Morphomon, in the future, was a goddess-like entity named Eve, who took over the world using the Digimon through an event known as the Day of Liberation. The Student's Council's goal was to see to it so they could establish themselves as co-rulers. Later, when AEGIS got involved, we met Layla Saiba, the former SAIBA Enterprise heiress-turned AEGIS agent, and Ben Merlo. They were part of the group that saved Cisco City during Millennium Day those years back, as well as the enemy's attempt at changing history through another event known as Ragnarök. I also learned that Mikayla and Nick were from the same future, several thousand years ahead, and because of my relationship with Evie, Mikayla was hesitant to trust me. After convincing her otherwise, things took a turn.

Ken Talbot, the boy, involved in the blackmail scandal, approached me the day of the news outbreak, and I learned that Isabella had him fake the footage to cover her tracks. He also gave me a card called Tsumemon to help with my deck. Little did I realize that he also approached Wallace and offered his help to save his actual girlfriend, as Isabella was, in reality, Lilamon, a Digimon under the orders of the Green Pillar Reseda. Thanks to Ken's help, Wallace also unlocked the potential of his deck, gaining the power of his own Chaosmon, Chaosmon: Valdur Arm.

Afterward, after seeing the newly appointed council, Ken included, we all went into action to see what was going on. Mikayla confronted Ken, who claimed that he was an ally. Mikayla watched in hiding as Lilamon confronted him, and that's when she realized that Lilamon was infected by a virus that Ken implanted to sabotage her plans. Unable to leave her, Mikayla went after Lilamon when she escaped, and with Evie's help, they nursed her. Meanwhile, the Red Pillar, Alizar, confronted Ben Merlo, and after being defeated and kidnapped, Ben found himself beside Layla and Ken, who were also abducted. Nick went to save them, only to encounter Dion Allister, an ally to the Student Council and Layla's former VP during her time at the school.
