-Chapter 10: Paid with Fear-

AN: A few chapters ago I said I was going to alternate between perspectives, but my mind changed when I had a character move somewhere and do something. Soooo… here we are seeing what Oldeus does again. Also, I got my first ever comment.

-Oldeus POV-

A child could be heard in the darkness of the forest. They were screeching like they were going to die. I suppose I should help? Ruijerd would've. I would be 'paying it back' as I think the saying goes. Kind of like repaying a debt. That I can get behind, I still owe Ruijerd a lot and I don't know if I'll ever have paid back what he's done for me. He saved my life after all. There was no way I would've survived the demon continent without him. Anyways, I should go save that kid.

"Wigaaaaahhhh!" the kid screamed just as I was getting there only to realize there wasn't a monster. No. There were corpses of monsters and three other kids around the same age as the one screaming. The boy that was screaming had horns protruding out of the front of his head, red skin, and a scar along one of his two arms. A female near him had white, bird-like feathers all across her body. She also had the head of a bald eagle. Two boys that were shuffling through bags turned to look at me when I was in view. One had brown skin, a bald head, and a scar going across one eye that it didn't seem he could see out of. The other boy next to him also had brown skin, brown hair, four arms, and eagle-like eyes that burrowed into me now. They were all looking at me with wide eyes. They all looked like they were about to pee themselves like any other terrified kids. Uh, am I that scary? I mean… I am a newborn baby floating around killing monsters left and right in some dark woods. I guess that would be scary, maybe even horror show scary. Should I shout something like boo? I don't think it would serve me much purpose other than to be rid of them.

There were many other weird screams coming from the kids, irritating as they were. I began approaching to ask if they were ok and then they got in a battle formation. So, they are adventurers? That would make sense. They all seem to be around the age of 12-14 years old. A bunch of kids on an adventure, huh… I wonder what their quest is. I don't think the Adventure Guild has any hunt quests on me yet. Hopefully, at least. If they do that means that someone from the Superd Village made a quest to get me. On the bright side that means that Superd are somewhat accepted. If that's the case that is. Though I extremely doubt that someone has made a quest on me yet. It's not realistic in this world to even just get to the Adventure Guild in that amount of time. At least not from a village out in the middle of nowhere. Wait… could you do it with battle aura? Maybe they used a speed boost from their aura to get themselves to the guild… If they did then these kids could totally be after me. Although still unlikely. Why am I even sticking around? I don't think they're in danger other than from upsetting me, but maybe they can't manage the monsters around here? I don't want them to end up like the other kid that died in this forest... Woah! Stone bullet nearly hit my head. Nearly hit my weak baby head that would go splat with a single one of those. Y'know I really think I should leave now with that kind of danger.

"Ruuuuuuunnnnnn!" one of the boys say as they all flee. I guess that deals with my problem. If they hadn't tried to kill me, I would've made sure they didn't die but… they did try to kill a little baby who didn't do anything to them. I'll leave them alone for my own safety. I won't feel bad if they die now. Actually, I want them to die now. Should I kill them myself? Ruijerd would never forgive me, so I guess not but I won't be so forgiving next time. I should do something else while they calm down.

Back to finding an executioner? Yeah. I'll continue heading towards the thickest part of the forest. Again, killing monsters as they come to me. Actually, now that I pay more attention are they even trying to attack me? In a way they look like they're going to pee their pants. Not that they have any to pee in, but they do somehow have that expression. At least as far as I can read monster responses. I'm no expert on reading expressions of creatures that have a wide variety of facial features. In fact, I became something of a recluse after I was forced to leave my family. Not as much as in my first life but definitely not the friendly kind of person you would want to approach for a weak reason. I either approached someone or they had a really good reason to come to me in my average encounter. Like Millis residents trying to kill me for stealing that book. Hah… Lots of Millis fools. I'm not going back to Millis any time soon, that's for sure. Granted there are exceptions as well, like Eris who kept on challenging me to duals. Oh, there's something that looks like an executioner! It's running like a coward. Running away from me. I guess even monster are scared of a flying baby. I can't really blame them, if I saw a newborn child floating and slaughtering monsters like it was nothing I would probably run for my life. Especially in the dark, scary forest filled with monsters… I should be chasing this thing, shouldn't I? Well, time to die executioner.

"Grackragggaa!" certainly one of the weirder screams I've heard today. That actually means something since I've heard the sounds of child birth, other monster cries, and terrified children. Wait… The fricking armor turned into thin air! I came here and got nothing… Wait, no. Did those adventurers leave anything behind? Y'know like spare clothing that you would take for a multi-day trip like they were on into the forest. Yeah! Gotta check that out!

The adventurer's camp had a few quickly made seats (small earth walls at the height of seats), bags that could carry about two watermelons, a fire, and some sleeping bags set up. Perfect. Even if I don't get clothes out of this, which I doubt will happen considering the sleeve coming out of one of the bags, I've now got sleeping bags and a fire. This is almost too perfect in fact. I even have food from the slain monsters around… The only disadvantage is that those kids might come back for there stuff and the clothes probably don't fit me. I mean, maybe one of them had a kid? Though I doubt they would have clothes for the kid with them on an adventure… Oh, well. Not much I can do about that. The best I can do at the moment is to sleep. A baby's gotta rest y'know? And this baby's been flying and killing monsters all day. Granted all of those tasks required mana and not any physical energy that I have. I still need to sleep. Emotionally I want to look through the bags and see what I have but I really need to sleep. I guess I'll look through them in the morning. Good night me…

-The Next Day-

Morning. Not that I actually know it's morning, but I just woke up. Time to scrounge through their stuff. Let's see… four bags. There was four of them wasn't there? Guess I was too tired to pay much attention to it. Which one to start with? How about I open the one with a sleeve coming out of it and finally get some clothes to wear. Let's just walk over there and… Right, I can't walk at the moment. Ok, time to use trusty old gravity magic. Within this bag could there be enough clothes to cover me? Probably. One shirt can be enough to cover a baby of my size, so my requirements aren't high. Well, only one way to find out if what I need is here. Ah! This shirt… it's actually pants. Uh… Harder to work with but I could use it as a belt, I guess? Not exactly something that can wrap around my body and cover much. What else? Oh, a doll? The doll has one eye that looked like it was about to fall off, brown skin, and a giant sword connected to its right hand. Not something that'll help me, but I do feel like I've seen a doll with a similar feel and shape to this one… I can't remember from where though. Considering I'm finding this on the demon continent maybe something from around here? Probably a child's toy… Well, it's irrelevant. I should just continue browsing through this stuff like I have been. Let's see… A shirt! Yay, I can wrap myself in this shirt to cover my entire body! I'll leave out a hole for my head, though. Survival Requirement: Clothing is complete at last! Now what do I do next? Uh… what were the other survival requirements I made again? It's only been a day and I've forgotten… Well, I guess a day is most of my life right now! Ha, ha, ha. I'll blame the fact that my brain isn't fully developed yet and may be lacking in some areas. Though, seriously. What do I do now? I wasn't actually expecting to reincarnate so I don't have any actual plans at the moment… I could continue my plan to kill Hitogami. I could also figure out why everything is afraid of me like Orsted was. I could… keep on looking through these kids stuff! I think that's what I'll do! Yep!
