Calum glanced at Catherine as Erin parked the car below Thames House. She looked exhausted and angry, a mix he knew was not good when it came to his wife. Catherine was nothing if not determined. He had no idea why or how the man Beth and Dimitri had taken into custody had known her but he knew then was not the time to ask.
"Right." Erin paused. "You ok?"
"Yes." Catherine nodded once. "This place isn't exactly great for disabled access."
"Dimitri said the same when he came back to work." Calum paused. "The Grid is probably the best adapted department in the building."
"Yeah." Catherine paused. "My chair."
"In the boot." Calum stated before getting out of the car to retrieve the wheelchair he knew Catherine hated so much. He closed his eyes as he opened the boot of the car, nervous to how she would react when they stepped back onto the Grid for the first time since she had been injured. He knew he had to be prepared for any reaction. Catherine Reid was nothing if not her father's daughter.

"Briefing Room." Ros called out over the Grid. "Meeting in ten minutes. Call back anyone not already here." She turned to her computer, tapping a few keys as Malcolm walked over to her.
"Ros."
"Yes." She kept her eyes on the screen. Malcolm sighed.
"Are you ok?"
Ros raised an eyebrow. Malcolm smirked slightly.
"I have gained access to Peterson's records at the prison. Seems his probation officer, A lady by the name of Diana Smith has not attended work since the day he was released."
"She would have been at his probation hearing." Lucas frowned. Ros nodded.
"Ok, so?"
"It seems she has been in the bad books of her bosses." Ruth joined the conversation. "Inappropriate conduct. She has been demoted twice and was, at the time she was last seen on her final written warning."
"So where is she?"
"Good question." Ruth glanced over the Grid as Erin walked through the Pods. "No sign of her bank card being used. No sign of her on CCTV."
"So, is she hiding or dead? He does have a knack of getting rid of people he was not impressed by. If this Diana has outlived her usefulness, then she probably is dead." She got to her feet as the rest of the team began heading towards the Briefing Room.

"You don't have to do this." Calum stated as Catherine closed her eyes for a moment. She felt sick at the thought of going back onto the Grid. The fact she had almost been killed there was playing heavy on her mind.
"I do." She stated firmly. "He is not wining."
"Catherine."
"Calum." She turned to him. "I could have died there. You saw me shot there. If I don't go back in then he has won. He has stopped me doing my job. I wont have that. He may have ruined my legs but my brain is still intact. He isn't taking Section D from me too."
Calum nodded as Harry appeared out of the side door to the Grid. "We need to talk."
"As my Dad or my boss?" Catherine looked him in the eye. Calum stared at his feet as Harry nodded.
"Both." His voice softened. "My office."
"I." She wheeled her chair a few inches forward, her guts turning as she thought about actually being in the room where she had almost died just months earlier.
"Catherine."
"I."
She bit her lip, stealing herself as Harry shook his head. "Forgery Suite." He turned, heading to the room just outside of the Grid. Catherine let out a sigh of relief as Calum started after him. A moment later she wheeled herself into the large room before sending Calum back to the Grid. Harry sat on the leather sofa at the back of the room as she approached him. He knew better than to suggest helping her.
"Dad."
"He knew who you were. Ros told me." He paused as she nodded once, her face paler than Harry had ever remembered seeing her. Blonde hair fell into her eyes as she thought about a time she had pushed to the back of her mind.
"He's abducted Ruth?"
"Yes." Harry paused. "We aren't talking about her at the moment. As your Section Head I need to know how you know him. What dealings have you had with this man?"
"Dealings?" Catherine shook her head. "None. I did my best to have nothing to do with him. I can only guess how he found out about my accident and my married name."
"We are going to ask him." Harry confirmed as Catherine looked away.
"It was a long time ago. Do you remember when you came over to Israel? I was researching a documentary on the West Bank and the violence that was going on there at the time." She frowned. Harry nodded. "I was with Kanga Films. Jamie and Leon were trying to set up intel so that we could get someone to speak on camera."
"I remember them. Nice lads. It was Jamie that managed to contact me when you were in that bus explosion."
"That's right." Catherine smiled as she remembered her friend. "He was like a big brother to me. Really nice guy. Seems he got hold of Peterson. He was supposed to be a credible source." She sighed. "UK intelligence working in the Embassy over there."
"I see."
"Jamie trusted him. Leon didn't. He believed that the bus explosion was intended to kill as many foreign nationals as possible. That included me and the lads." She frowned. "It was two days after I had interviewed him. He was clearly lying to me, there was no way I could use the information he was feeding me. I might not have been a spook then but I knew a liar when I saw one."
"You called him out on it."
"Yes." Catherine paused. "I told him that I didn't believe a word he has told me and that unless he had credible references with fully validated resources then there was no way I was going to show him on screen." She frowned. "He got nasty. Telling me his bosses had given him the information and that he was going to be making sure I paid for being so stupid."
"You think he planted the IED?"
"No evidence, other than gut instinct." She looked at him. "Calum told me he was a civil servant at Whitehall?"
"Yes." Harry paused. "Personal secretary to Andrew Lawrence. He pulled the wool over plenty of eyes in the past."
"Not just me then." She sighed.
"No, sweetheart." Harry sighed, squeezing her hand. "Not just you. Can you contact your former team? See if anyone has had problems?"
Catherine shook her head. "Jamie isn't answering the phone. Leon was killed covering a story in Iran back in 2020." She looked away. "I'll keep trying Jamie." Harry squeezed her hand.
"Do you think you can come to the meeting?"
Catherine nodded. "Try stopping me."
"Well, I wasn't a spook then." Catherine huffed. "I didn't know he was lying. He had everyone fooled.
