My new story…its Sessh/Kag if you don't like the pairing, don't read the story.

**This is a rewrite in order to fit the story as it's been progressing! I started this story so long ago it was time to update the writing, and a recent review I got reminded me of this goal! Thanks OnceUponABlueMoonDream ! Note: we're shifting from the songs, so expect big changes to explain things better.

Bold means a change in location and/ or time or time period. Italics are thoughts or Sesshomaru's inner demon talking, or flashbacks.

Chapter 8: Mornin' Blues

Kagome woke up still wrapped tightly in Sesshomaru's arms. Craning her next to past him, she tried to look at the time. 11:30 AM. She didn't know what time they ended up going to bed, but after their talk Sesshomaru spent some time showing her how he felt about being teased all night.

I don't even think he's awake yet, Kagome thought.

"I am," he answered the question she didn't ask, keeping his eyes closed.

"How'd you sleep?" She studied his face, "Are you hungover?"

"DaiYoukai do not get hangovers," He opened his eyes to study her, "how are you feeling?"

Kagome shrugged, "little headache but it's nothing some water and aspirin won't knock out. I'm sure Miroku, Sango, and Inuyasha are in much worse shape."

Sesshomaru nodded, "They are not awake yet. Neither are the children."

Kagome's stomach growled and she grinned, "Breakfast?"

Sesshomaru released his hold on her, giving her a forehead kiss before watching her climb over him to get out of bed. He let his eyes wander her body as she stretched, moving to the dresser to pick out some pajamas.

Tossing a pair of black sweatpants at him, Kagome pulled one of Sesshomaru's shirts over her head. While they were out that night, her mother had done a little bit of laundry. When he noticed, he raised an eyebrow at her.

"You choose my clothing today?

Kagome shrugged, "I picked this shirt."

Sesshomaru smiled softly, pulling on the pants she gave him, "I like it," he stood and walked to her, capturing her lips, "you look better in my clothing than I do."

Kagome smiled, "I gotta put pants on, do you want a shirt?"

Sesshomaru reached past her to the open drawer of his clothes, pulling out a shirt. To his displeasure, Kagome put actual pants on, a soft pair of pink sweatpants. He would've preferred shorts, so he could see her legs. Or nothing, for the best access to her smooth skin.

Kagome pulled a brush through her hair before swinging the bedroom door open. Padding down the stairs, Sesshomaru followed his mate to the kitchen and watched as she poured herself a bowl of dry cereal, filling a glass with orange juice before popping open the aspirin bottle and taking two pills.

As she poured the milk into her bowl his voice was amused, "did you not say water? I do not recall juice being the same thing."

Kagome stuck her tongue out at him before filling another glass with water, putting it on the table before she jumped to sit on the counter with her breakfast.

"You didn't answer my question," she commented between bites, "how'd you sleep?"

Sesshomaru shrugged, "I had many unpleasant dreams."

"Oh no," Kagome moved to get down, "What were they? You should've woken me."

He waved a hand in protest, "Eat, Kagome. It was not worth it to wake you at an occurrence of bad memories. I was merely plagued by the moments where I almost lost you. Hojo is the least of your dangers, but his actions reminded me that I could've lost you in ways far worse."

"Oh," Kagome nodded, "you mean Naraku."

"Mukotsu and Renkotsu of the Band of Seven. Both tried to kill you, and would have if I or Inuyasha did not arrive on time. The Panther Devas. Countless meaningless demons. Takemaru and Sounga, too. Naraku was one of many that have tried to remove you from my life."

Kagome slid off the counter, placing her bowl where she once sat. She crossed the kitchen to where Sesshomaru stood and wrapped her arms around him. Instinctively, he molded his body to hers.

"You saved me. You both protected me and kept me as safe as possible." She murmured into him

"It was so close." He sighed into her hair, "It was always way too close."

"But you did." Kagome reassured him, "I'm here. And I'm safe."

"We had to. We couldn't bear to lose you. I couldn't bear to lose you." Sesshomaru's embrace got tighter.

"The times you put yourself in harm's way to protect Rin," He continued, "When Takemaru had taken you both, Inuyasha and I were fighting so hard to get to you. He called for you, and Rin called for me. My heart sank, knowing you both were in terrible danger. I was so worried I wouldn't get there in time."

"Sessh," Kagome started.

"Holding you like this now," his voice was a whisper in her hair now, "It's all I wanted then. Having to keep my resolve and fight, instead of embracing you, was one of the hardest moments of my life."

"It's okay now, love." Kagome kissed his chest through his shirt, "we're together, even the kids. We're safe."

Sesshomaru kissed the top of her head several times before releasing her.

"You must eat more," He handed her the bowl.

"Nah," Kagome took the bowl and dumped the contents down the sink, "soggy now. This is fine." She pulled a bowl of washed grapes from the fridge before walking into the living room. Sesshomaru followed, sitting in the large recliner she gestured him toward, smiling softly when she made herself comfortable on his lap. She clicked on the tv, putting it on a random cartoon at low volume. Miroku and Sango emerged from their room first. They looked like hell, or at least deeply hungover.

"Mornin' guys," Kagome said softly, "How ya feelin?"

"Terrible," Miroku croaked

"I never want to drink that much again." Sango groaned.

"Let me get you something for your heads," Kagome smiled, standing and handing the bowl to her mate before disappearing into the kitchen. She came back with a tray filled with bottled waters, and a bottle of aspirin. Setting it down on the coffee table, she gestured to Sango and Miroku to help themselves.

Shippo, Rin, and Souta were the next to get up. Souta disappeared into the kitchen as Shippo crawled right into Kagome's lap and focused on the TV.

Rin curled into a blanket and smiled gratefully at the bowl of grapes Sesshomaru placed in front of her.

The room was serene, with light chatting about the previous night's events and the tv's cartoons providing background noise.

Right as Inuyasha emerged with Kikyo, Kagome proposed an idea.

"Tonight's the pre-graduation dinner. I would love for you all to come, but it's pretty formal. We can go shopping, get the kids some stuff and get you all some evening wear? I know you'd like to explore this era a bit."

"That's a good idea," Kikyo nodded, "you mentioned your era has shops especially for mothers?"

Kagome tried not to look suspicious, "yes, Kikyo. There's a lot of specialized stores. One's for mothers, expecting mothers, children and babies. Just women, just men, just undergarments…"

"Are we going there?" Miroku asked too quickly, earning a hard nudge from Sango

Kagome laughed, "we actually need to."

"Can I get a toy, Mama?" Shippo asked, "to take back?"

"Of course baby," she kissed the top of his head, "we should get dressed if we want to go!"

He nodded, going with Rin back to their bedroom to get changed. The rest of the group followed, taking small steps to nurse their headaches. Kagome cleaned up the tray and bowls before jumping up the stairs to her room.

Sesshomaru lingered downstairs, hearing Sakura start to walk over from the guest house. After a minute or two, she opened the front door and stepped into the entryway, carrying a large basket of muffins. Seeing Sesshomaru at the bottom of the stairs, Sakura walked over to him and smiled.

"I figured we wouldn't see you all until dinner, so I brought you some muffins. Fresh baked this morning!"

"Thank you, Sakura."

"Of course. And the kids are so sweet. Rin is a very smart and helpful little girl. Kagome said she's been with you a few years?"

"I found Rin after her family was slaughtered by wolves,"He corrected himself, "Wolf demons. She was mute, from terror. She found me when I'd been injured a while earlier, and she remembered me. I've protected her ever since."

"Well," Sakura smiled, "she speaks incredibly highly of you. I'm happy you helped her find her voice again."

Sesshomaru smiled softly, warming Sakura's heart.

"Anyway, I won't keep you. I'll see you all tonight," she turned away, "I'll leave these in the kitchen. Give Kagome a kiss for me."

Sesshomaru nodded, heading up the stairs. When he entered their room, Kagome was standing at the mirror in jeans. Only jeans. She was holding bras to herself as she compared them. He walked up behind her, kissing her cheek before looking at her in the mirror. In the rest of the house, he listened to the sounds of showers starting and stopping.

"Are you….not matching on this day?"

Kagome laughed and pulled down her jeans a little so he could see. The tiny slip of fabric on her hips had a swirly pattern in the colors of the two bras she held, Black and green.

"do green" Sesshomaru nodded as he went to his clothes, picking out a pair of linen pants and a green t-shirt.

Kagome giggled, "fine, my shirt is white though." pulling the clingy white top on after securing the bra in place.

Examining herself again, she decided that she liked the subtle green tint the shirt had now, and it wasn't as see through as she feared.

Sssshomaru watched as she brushed her hair and made sure her ring was in place before putting on her shoes.

"A bunch of my clothes are gone, I bet Mama picked some things out for Sango and Kikyo." Turning to the door, she smiled at her mate, "let's go check on the kids."

When the two entered the living room; Shippo was placing a leaf in his pocket, making his tail poof away. He was wearing shorts with little foxes in them, with a black shirt. Rin wore an orange shirt, with a pair of black jeans. On one leg, Sakura had embroidered multicolored butterflies scattered on the fabric.

Sango and Miroku were dressed casually as well, in joggers paired with soft tees. Inuyasha also wore joggers, and pulled a beanie over his ears that had the Symbol of the West on it, a gift from Kagome. The group looked comfortable, and ready for a day of shopping.
