Chapter 11

Training Day

Grey, Natsu, and Lucy made their way back to the music room after school finished. They had agreed that morning to practice after school since Lucy thought she may have had a song figured out in her head. Juvia tagged along with them hoping to draw inspiration for her song from theirs.

"Okay so Natsu, I don't know how to play guitar, but I want the song to sound like this." She began to play the chords on the piano. Natsu Grabbed a guitar and plugged it into an amp, he then began to strum the guitar to match what Lucy played.

"Okay so Grey, I uhm, I don't even know how to approach drumming, but I'm hoping you can just feel out the song and go from there?" She asked him.

"Freestyle… got it." He said as he sat at the drum set.

Lucy grabbed a microphone from the equipment room and hooked it up, with a pair of drums and an electric guitar Lucy's regular voice would be drowned out.

Lucy took a deep breath, she saw Juvia smile enthusiastically at her, Lucy gave her a warm smile back and gave Natsu the okay to begin the intro.

(Cloud 9- Beach Bunny)

"I don't wanna seem the way I do

But I'm confident when I'm with you

Lately, all I feel is bad and bruised

Tired of tripping on my shoes…"

Grey begins to ramp up the songs chorus with the drums. Lucy looks at Grey and smiles, its like he had read her mind.

"But when he loves me, I feel like I'm floating

When he calls me pretty, I feel like somebody

Even when we fade eventually to nothing

You will always be my favorite form of loving."

Lucy grinned even harder; the song was playing out exactly as she had envisioned it. Her heart fluttered with joy, only music could make her feel this way… well maybe someone else could.

" When I start to tumble from the sky

You remind me how to fly

Lately, I've been feeling not alive

But you bring me back to life"

Lucy sang the last line of the verse while looking at Natsu, she didn't just gain inspiration for the song from the music he had shown her earlier, but she had gained it from him. When she thought of Natsu, hundreds of song lyrics flew around in her head. She could spend the rest of her life writing songs only about him and never run out of ideas.

"But when he loves me, I feel like I'm floating

When he calls me pretty, I feel like somebody

Even when we fade eventually to nothing

You will always be my favorite form of loving."

Lucy stepped back from the microphone and looked at Natsu, this was the part where she wanted a guitar solo. Natsu nodded at Lucy and began to freestyle.

Lucy stood back in awe as he did. She couldn't fathom how he was so good at piano and guitar. He played with the same passion he did with piano, except instead of being soft and melodic his passion felt wild and free. Lucy could feel her skin ignite, she wanted to reach out and touch him, feel his passion.

Finally, Natsu's guitar solo came to end and he looked to lucy to cue her back in.

"But when he loves me, I feel like I'm floating

When he calls me pretty, I feel like somebody

Even when we fade eventually to nothing

You will always be my favorite form of loving."

The song ended and Lucy squealed, jumping up and down.

"That went even better than I could've imagined! Yay!" Lucy said. Juvia clapped for them all and Grey gave a bow jokingly to Juvia.

"Lucy that was wonderful! Who's the song about?" she asked.

"Uhhhhhh, Its about, uh. I don't know." She said innocently. Lucy knew damn well who the song was about, but that was private information between her and her lyrics.

"Sureeeee, you don't." Juvia said knowingly, she looked between Natsu and Lucy and then winked at Lucy. Lucy blushed widely, luckily, she had her back to Natsu as he began to pack up all the gear. Juvia and Grey then packed up and left, going to God-knows where together.

"Well Lucy, you have officially mastered rock music, well pop rock. A subgenre of rock, nonetheless. Ready to go?" Natsu said holding her bag and his.

"Yep, I'm excited to learn how to beat you up." She said egotistically. Natsu just stared at her, he didn't laugh or nothing.

"Sure bud, you keep telling yourself that." He said and patted her head, he knew damn well that would piss Lucy off, so after he did it, he ran for the wind. Lucy screamed after him giving chase. She pretty much chased him all the way to Natsu's dads dojo.

Well, welcome to Arts Dojo, named after Guildarts of course cuss he's cocky like that." Natsu said as they approached the building.

"Apple doesn't fall far from the tree…" Lucy mumbled as she followed him inside the doors of the building.

"I heard that!" Natsu pouted. Lucy giggled.

She took in the huge room that she and Natsu walked into. He seemed unfazed but Lucy stopped and took it all in. Their were people sparing everywhere, professional fighting rings like you see in the TV shows, punching bags, dummies, the whole damn thing. Lucy began to feel a bit self conscious; she wasn't sure how strong she was, and she was sure to embarrass herself today. If it weren't her clumsiness to be her downfall, it would be the fact she could barley lift five lb.

"Hey son, who's the blonde?" A large man said while approaching the two. Lucy instinctively took a small step behind Natsu, slightly intimidated by the mans booming voice and stature.

"This is Luce. Luce, this is Guildarts, my dad." He said with a smile.

Lucy took a small step from behind Natsu. Guildarts stuck out his hand to shake Lucy's

"Nice to meet you Lucy, you here to train?" He asked

"Sorta, I wanna learn to fight." She said looking down. She felt like she stuck out like a sore-thumb here.

"Sounds good, well Natsu is one of our best trainers here, excluding yours truly of course. He instructs beginner classes over the summer so your in good hands." Guildarts said confidently. Lucy definitely saw where Natsu got his personality from, he may not be Natsu's biological dad, but the two had carbon-copy personalities.

"Sounds good thank you sir." Lucy said with a small smile.

"Sir? Nah that's my dad, you can call me Guildarts!" He said with a grin.

"Okay, well thank you Guildarts."

"You let me know if Natsu starts being a whinny baby, he's like that often, but I promise he's hard not to love." Guildarts said while ruffling Natsu's hair. Natsu swatted his dads hands away.

"You done embarrassing me Guildarts?" Natsu said to his dad.

"Careful Natsu, or else I'll make you teach the 11-13 age group defense class this summer." Guildarts warned him, it was obvious the threat carried no weight, but Natsu still paled at the mention.

"NO! please! Not again, they were so damn loud and annoying." Natsu said, his eyes widened as he remembered teaching the class the year prior. It was the worst summer of his life.

Guildarts laughed and walked off, leaving the two alone once more. Natsu looked at Lucy, who still looked a bit uncomfortable. He grabbed her hand softly.

"C'mon Luce, lets teach you how to punch!" Natsu said with excitement.

"Natsu… please…. I'm dying here." Lucy said face flat on the floor. Natsu spent the first thirty minutes teaching Lucy the basics. She actually did quite well so Natsu thought they would move on to some light sparing. Unfortunately for Lucy, that meant being knocked on her ass more times then she could count.

"C'mon Luce, your forgetting everything I just taught you, don't try to focus so much on beating me, focus on your attacks and blocking mine." He then pulled Lucy upright.

Natsu was right, Lucy was forgetting everything. She couldn't help herself. Natsu was wearing a tight grey working out shirt. Which he kept lifting to wipe the sweat of his forehead. Every time he did, Lucy had to try with all her might not to stare. The dude had a body that could kill, and it was working at killing Lucy right now.

"Fine, once more then we call it quits." She moaned.

Natsu took his position, arms up ready to defend himself. He was going as easy as he possibly could for Lucy, purposefully leaving himself open to lots of hits. But Lucy seemed to get flustered the second he approached. As he approached her this time, she immediately changed. Her eyes narrowed, she put her arms up ready to hit him. He smiled; she was finally getting the hang of it.

Lucy took a step towards him, as he went to punch, she ducked and punched him the stomach. Natsu lost his breath and Lucy began jumping up and down.

"I did it! I finally landed a punch on you!" Lucy cried in delight. Natsu saw her face light up as he regained his composure, he of course didn't actually hit her during their sparring, but he said she could hit him as he could manage her baby hits fine.

"Lucy, the match isn't over, take your place." He said with a smile, nodding his head at her childish behavior. Lucy laughed and took her position again. Hitting Natsu was the burst of confidence she needed. This time she approached Natsu, she went to punch but he blocked it with ease. He then went to try to knock her over, but instead of blocking it, Lucy did something she thought would be way funnier.

She wrapped her leg around his as he tried to get her to fall. Natsu, not expecting this, began to fall on top of Lucy. He grabbed her waist and swung her so that she would fall onto him instead. If he had landed on her she definitely would not be able to walk it off.

Lucy landed hard onto Natsu with a thump. She laughed, not realizing the position they were in.

"DID YOU SEE THAT! I TOOK THE GREAT NATSU DOWN! HA! I WIN!" She said over and over. Her face beamed with pride. Sure, she had fallen with him, but getting Natsu down was a win either way.

Natsu laughed, arms still wrapped around her waist as she laid on top of him. He just watched her as she continued on about how awesome she was for getting her to fall on their first day of training. After a second Lucy calmed and looked at him. Her eyes widened as she realized where she was.

"Oh shit! Sorry Natsu, I probably crushed you! Are you okay? Did you hit your head?" Lucy said while leaning in to check if he had bumped his head. He caught her gaze and stared into her eyes.

"I'm fine Luce, good job." He said softly, he moved a stray strand of hair that had fallen out of her ponytail and then cupped her cheek. Lucy blushed madly, but she didn't move. Honestly, she didn't want to. She continued to stare at him.

Lucy leaned down and kissed his forehead, "for making you bump your head." She said with a soft smile. Natsu felt his cheeks go red, she stared at her in awe as she then got up and reached out her hand to help him up. He took it and sprung to his feet, but he didn't let go of her hand. The two remained silent as they looked at their interlocked fingers, they just felt so right together.

Finally, Lucy let go. "C'mon lets go to the restaurant, free dinner for letting me win today." She said trying to brush off what happened, her face full of pure joy.

Natsu smiled softly at her, in that moment he knew…he was deeply and irrevocably in love with his Lucy.
