Harry doesn't sleep all night. After the chaperone fiasco, he had come home and tried to pass out in a drunken stupor but he had failed miserably. His inner alpha refused to let him sleep because his omega is displeased with him. His inner alpha wants his omega by his side.
Sirius had given him an understanding look but Remus won't speak to him. He has to call in sick because he is no use to the hospital in this condition.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Sirius sits himself down beside Harry on his bed.
"No," Harry lifts his head from where it's buried in his pillow and rests it on Sirius' thigh, just as he used to when he was a small pup. Sirius seemed so big and strong and all-powerful, he could and would protect Harry from all the nightmares. "Will Remus ever forgive me?"
"You let me worry about him," Sirius says matter of factly. "You have to go and apologize to yours."
"He got so mad at me." Harry's voice is muffled by the strong muscle of Sirius' thigh. "What right did he have to be mad at me?"
"He is your mate." Sirius answers. "He has every right to get mad at you for sleeping with another omega."
"It was under medical duress." Cedric was beautiful and perfectly consenting. Harry had gotten physical pleasure out of the act, but it had felt wrong, so very wrong. "He's one to talk," Harry states resentfully. "He's slept with everyone and their mom. There wasn't a girl in university who didn't boast about his sexual prowess."
Sirius pauses his hand where it's running through Harry's hair, making the younger alpha complain audibly. He loves Harry's hair because it reminds him of James. He misses James so much. "Now, why does that matter?" He asks Harry who tries to get Sirius to start moving his hand again.
Harry shrugs. "I don't like it." Despite having a lot of empathy, Harry is not that attuned to his own feelings. "I don't know why."
"Do you think he ever dated an alpha?" Sirius tries to get Harry to understand what jealousy for a mate means.
Harry physically grabs Sirius' hand and makes him pet his hair. "He dated every girl in town. Alpha and others." Draco used to think that sleeping around was some kind of sport. He was trying to win some kind of medal at it, that's for sure.
"Any men?" Sirius knows Remus dated before him, thankfully no alpha males. Sirius would be in prison for murder if that were the case. It's just how the bond works. It is irrational and insane and frankly destructive.
Sirius cannot imagine what Severus felt when Lily took up with James. It makes him feel bad for Severus. Empathy for Severus is not something Sirius tries to have. Not just because he hates his former classmate, but because if tables were turned and Remus left Sirius, Snape wouldn't have the same capacity for empathy. He would simply mock Sirius for being a failure as an alpha. Sirius shudders. He doesn't like thinking about Remus rejecting him, even if an impossibility after so many years of bonding, the thought is terrifying.
"No," Harry sits up, staring into his godfather's intense blue eyes.
"Any male suitors?" Sirius doesn't want to send Harry into a jealous frenzy, but he cannot have Harry turn into Severus. Silently seething as his mate marries another alpha. That much control is just not good in an alpha where an omega is concerned. Sometimes alpha males need to be cavemen.
"No," Harry tries, for the trillionth time, to tame his insane hair. It seems the more he runs his hair through in an attempt to calm it down, the messier it gets. "Well, that Blaise Zabini," Harry makes a face as he remembers the handsome, arrogant alpha always by Draco's side. "I don't know if something happened there."
"Imagine that," Sirius says innocently enough, "That alpha all over your mate."
Harry cannot stand the disgustingly sickening mental image of Blaise and Draco together. Considering how tired and hung-over he is from all the champagne, coupled with the sleep deprivation, his critical thinking has been turned off. It gives him the strength to get out of bed. He is still wearing his outfit from last night, and does not bother putting on his suit jacket, nor can he find it. He thinks he left it with Draco. "I need to get my coat back," He says as he wobbles on his feet, eyes bloodshot, circles under his eyes deeper.
"I will come with you." Sirius immediately follows Harry downstairs. He knows Severus will be at Malfoy Manor and he cannot have Harry beat up in front of Draco.
"I made lunch," Remus doesn't look at Harry, so disappointed, is he. "If anyone wants any."
"Going to Malfoy House don't wait up," Harry says and runs out the front door.
"Why?" Remus is convinced Harry will make it worse. "Why do you let him make an idiot out of himself time and time again?" He asks his husband, as he proceeds to put their lunch back in the oven to keep it hot for dinner.
"It's what parents do." Sirius shrugs and shuts the door behind himself.
"You have got to be joking," Severus says as soon as they are allowed inside the Manor. "Leave." He glowers when Sirius rolls his eyes.
"He has a right to talk to his mate." Sirius was never intimidated by Severus. Then again, Sirius isn't afraid of anything. Severus is a terrifying man, but Sirius has seen worse things.
"This mating will not happen." Severus ignores Lucius' pleading look.
"Fine," Sirius says calmly as Harry shifts from foot to foot, a little hungover and a lot exhausted. "We will just leave. Let us know when the funeral is?"
Lucius' audible gasp is satisfying to Sirius, as well as Severus' defeat as he steps aside and lets Harry run upstairs, wobbly gait and all. "You are going to hell."
"Who isn't?" Sirius turns to Lucius, "Lunch?" He did skip a meal today and he is famished.
"Ugh," Lucius turns on his feet to comply with the request.
"You have some nerve," Severus hisses as soon as Lucius leaves the room. "After what you did to my relationship with Lily, you dare to do the same to my godson."
"I am trying to stop my godson from turning into you," Sirius says, afraid that Harry will end up just like Severus. Half mad and addicted to painkillers. "Now if you excuse me, I need to eat before I faint." He fans his face flamboyantly, infuriating Severus further with his mockery.
