All the police raced to Maddies apartment and Athena was running the place.
"I want everything bagged and sent to evidence. We've got two missing people out there and as far as I'm covered, they're two of us" Athena shouted
"Athena, we don't know how long they have been gone. He was already hours late for work" eddie said
Chimney came in from outside and interrupted them, "I just spoke to Maddies job and she changed her shift and was supposed to start at 3 this afternoon but no one heard from her. She said she's been really paranoid lately after some late night calls with no one on the other end"
"We'll get her phone records" Athena said, "now all of you, I think it's best you either go home or if you want to be together go back to the firehouse and wait for news" she explained
"But we need to find-"
"Eddie, you need to let us do our jobs. We can't have people running all over the city"
Everyone jumped into the truck and they went back to the firehouse. The firehouse had been taken off shift until they were ready to go back.
On the other side of LA, Maddie shot awake as they hit a speed bump,
"Where are we?" She asked
"Near San Diego"
"San Diego? Doug where are we going?"
"I don't know ok. I didn't think that far ahead"
Maddie turned around and looked at buck laid out in the back seat, "has he woke up yet?"
"Nope"
"Please let me look at him. He should be awake by now"
"He'll be ok"
"Is that a medical opinion or just a guess because we both know that someone who is asleep for that long after being knocked out is not good"
Doug grabbed Maddie by the side of the neck and pulled her closer,
"Doug please... if you love me. Just let me look"
He threw her back to the side and she hit the window. He skidded off and pulled into a gas station. "I've got to fill the tank anyway"
He pulled a gun out the front behind him and rested it on his knee, "I'm not kidding Maddie. Try anything. I will kill him"
"He's all I care about. I've got no where else to run to Doug"
Doug broke the tie from around Maddie and she got out opening the back door. She crawled in and lent over buck.
"Buck... buck.. can you hear me?" It took a few minutes when his eyes started to flutter.
"Buck?"
"Mad?"
"Yeah it's me. Just try not to move too much. Your head is still bleeding"
"Where.. are we?"
"Near San Diego. I think"
"What happened?"
"Doug happened. Please Buck, you're hurt and he's got a gun. Please just stay back here. I can't lose you and he will kill you if you try anything stupid"
"I want to kill him for hurting you"
Maddie grabbed bucks hand and held onto It, "we'll be ok, if we just do what he says. He says he still loves me and he wants us to be together"
"I love you sis"
"I love you buck"
The car door opened and doug pulled Maddie out by her own and threw her back in the front of the car. "Time to go" he said getting in the car and driving away.
Maddie sat and stared out the window when Doug took a turning for a nature reserve. She could hear buck moving behind her. She turned around and looked and he was reaching into his pocket. She shook her head but he just ignored it. He slid his hand into his pocket and pressed his thumb down against the keypad and pressed dial on anything hoping it would be someone.
Bobby was sat around the table with the team and they were just sat around waiting. He phone started to ring, "it must be athe... it's buck" he said
"Answer it" Eddie said
Bobby put it on loud speaker and they listened,
"I don't feel good" buck said
"When are we stopping Doug, where are we going?" Maddie said
"Just shut up. Both of you"
"Doug, you love Maddie, just let us go home" buck said
"If she didn't run away in the first place. This wouldn't be happening"
"Doug please we just want-"
"Buck. I may be married to your sister but if you carry on talking I will actually kill you this time" Doug said
Bobby covered the phone and looked at Hen, "call Athena now"
Everyone went back to listening to the phone, "Doug. You've got all the way to near San Diego and you still don't have a plan"
"We're stopping. Everyone get out"
Doug pulled Maddie out of the car and Maddie opened the door and helped Buck get out, "buck you're still bleeding. This isn't good, it's a deep head wound" Maddie said looking at it
"He'll be fine" Doug said
Doug was pacing up and down the middle of nowhere with the gun in his hand and he was thinking.
"We could catch a flight, go away. Far away"
"Doug we don't have passports" Maddie said, "please please can we just take buck to a hospital. We can leave him there and we can just go"
"Maddie no-" buck said
"No buck. Me and Doug are leaving together. You're not coming"
"We can't just drop him off Maddie" Doug said
"Why not?"
"Because I'm not stupid. He knows everything"
Maddie grabbed Dougs arm and he turned around and punched her making her fall to the ground,
"HEY!" Buck shouted
"I'm sorry Buck. I used to like you" Doug reached up his arm and shot Buck straight in the stomach. He fell to the floor and Maddie caught him.
"Buck. Buck... stay with me buck"
"Mad.."
"Listen buck. You're going to be fine. You hear me, just stay awake"
Doug pulled Maddie off the floor and dragged her away, "please Doug. Please just let me help him"
"You've got to get moving. Someone will drive past him... eventually"
"Buck! I love you" Maddie said as she was pushed into the car. Buck rolled over in the floor and looked at the car as it sped away down the road. He reached into his pocket and pulled his phone out. It as low battery but the call was still going. He put it to his ear,
"Cap?"
"Buck is that you?"
"Yeah it's me"
Eddie grabbed the phone and listened, "buck where are you? What happened?" Eddie said
"Eddie?"
"Yeah it's me"
"We are.. I'm down some... side road in the middle of nowhere. Maddie.. said we were... near San Diego" buck took a deep breath and tried to catch his breaths
"Buck what happened?"
"He.. shot me"
"Where buck?" Cap asked
"In the stomach. I'm bleeding.. a lot"
"Buck we're gonna find you okay" Bobby said
"We're over two hours away cap. I'll be dead by the time you find me"
"You need to hold on buck. We've got sirens and lights and we'll be there quicker than you know it. You need to look around and tell us what you can see"
"I can see dirt, a lot. We stopped at a gas station.. we drove for about 5 miles towards.. San Diego.. then turned left down a dirt road.." buck said getting more drowsier
"Buck?" Bobby said
"Yeah..."
"You need to stay awake"
"I'm trying"
Buck laid on the side of the road, and felt himself get colder and colder and he dropped the phone out of his hand.
Eddie took the phone from Bobby, "Buck.. buck... EVAN! Listen Buck. If you can hear me, you need to stay awake and stay breathing. You can do this, you're a fighter"
The phone line went dead and Eddie slammed the phone down on the counter. "Everyone let's go!" Bobby said. Everyone ran to the trucks. Bobby called Athena on the way and told her all the information,
"They've got choppers up in the air" Bobby said after hanging up with Athena.
Bobby looked at Chimney who was staring out the window, "chimney?" He said
"What?... Sorry cap"
"We are going to find them both. Alive"
"I should of called her sooner"
"Listen, you cannot be blaming yourself"
"She moved here to be safe but she would never be safe with him still around"
"We will find them" Bobby said looking at everyone.
As Athena had took one of the helicopters to quickly fly to San Diego, everyone was racing the trucks as quick as they can, it was still going to take over an hour. The police near San Diego had been sent out to look for buck and and set up road blocks to stop Doug. After about an hour, everyone was near San Diego and they were looking for an area where buck had explained but it was impossible to see anything.
"We need to find that gas station. It's 5 miles outside of San Diego. Let's get some feet on the ground" Athena radioed through from the helicopter.
Bucks POV
I opened my eyes and saw the sun shining but slowly going down. I looked down at my stomach and it was still bleeding, I knew I was slowly bleeding out.
I reached out for my phone that was on the ground and looked at it. There was one little bar of signal and it was nearly out of charge. I dialled Eddie and put it on speaker,
"Eddie?" I said as it answered
"Buck, you're alive?"
"I'm trying Eddie. I'm tired. I don't know how long I was out..."
"Buck we're near San Diego. What was the gas station called?"
"Something stupid. Like San Diego gas"
"That's easy right"
"There's a lot of gas stations in the way to San Diego"
"Think positive ok"
"My cell is going to die"
"We're gonna find you buck. We all love you. Just keep fighting"
I watched my screen go black as the phone died and I threw it on the floor. I put on head on the ground as tears came from my eyes and I knew I was dying. All I could think about was Maddie and what was going to happen. They were looking for me so they've probably forgot about her. I stared up at the sky and closed my eyes as I got more tired and then I could hear wheels driving on the dirt road. I lifted my head up and saw a car and then I waved my hand as high as I could hoping then would see me. I heard the car drive past and screamed in anger as it didn't see me. I cried laid back in the floor when I could hear footsteps. I turned my head to the side and the car had stopped.
I saw a young woman and man running towards me. They got down next to me,
"Are you ok? What happened?" She said
"I was shot. There's people looking for me. I'm a firefighter with the 118 in la and I need to call 9-1-1 and tell them where we are" I cried
"I'm going to get a blanket and the first aid kit from my car" the guy said as he ran off.
Nobody's POV
The girl put her phone to her ear and dialled 9-1-1,
"9-1-1 what's your emergency?" A man said down the phone
"Hello, I'm down a track road 5 miles from San Diego, you turn right after a gas station called San Diego gas. I've got a guy who's been shot and he says alone. He looks pretty beaten up, his head bleeding"
"Ok. I need you to put pressure on the wounds, is he breathing?"
"Yeah. He says he's a firefighter"
"Buck? Is his name buck"
"Hey guy, what's your name?"
"Evan Buckley but people call me buck"
"Yeah it is"
"I need you to stay with him, do not let him fall asleep. Tell him that Josh said everyone is coming"
The guy looked at buck and shook his shoulder, "this guys name is Josh. He said to say everyone is on their way. I think he knows you"
"Yeah... Josh. I know Josh"
"Hey you need to stay awake"
"I'm really trying. I'm just so tired"
She put the phone back to her ear, "the police are just down the street. Just tell him to hold"
"Listen buck, can you hear the sirens. They're coming ok just hold on"
"If... I don't make it.. my sister Maddie she's still missing. But tell them to tell her I love her and I'll always be proud of her"
"You're gonna make it buck and you'll see her don't worry"
The ambulance and two police cars turned up. The paramedics ran over to buck and started to work on him. They attached the lifepak to him, "he's tachycardic" the paramedic said. They loaded him on to the stretcher and rushed him to the hospital as quick as they could but he had lost so much blood they didn't know if they would get there on time.
