Chapter 6
-Three months later; Mystic Falls, Virginia-
The last three months had gone by in a blur. Katherine was still locked in the tomb. Stefan and Damon were trying everything to have Elena speak to them, but every attempt was thwarted by Rose and Bonnie and even Caroline. Speaking of Bonnie and Caroline, the pair were shocked that Jessica had been turned. Caroline was excited to have one of her best friends be with her for eternity. She had also started to get closer with Tyler as she helped him with his first turn into a wolf since he triggered his gene. Bonnie was very hesitant to accept Jessica until she saw how well controlled Jessica was for a vampire only about two months old. The witch had also gained friends in the Martin Warlocks who helped Bonnie understand her powers more now that her grandmother was dead. Elena was trying to move past Stefan to the best of her ability by surrounding herself with her friends and family. There were a few slip ups, but Elena has gotten to the point where she began to get closer with Matt again as he and Caroline had mutually ended things since Caroline was helping Tyler with his transition into a wolf, and they both needed someone to lean on to try and process the craziness going on around them. Jeremy was happily starting to explore his relationship with Bonnie and even learning that he had some form of magic even though it was a different type of magic than what Bonnie, Jonas, and Luka used. Rose was the vigilant protector of the Gilbert family and their friends. She had snapped the neck of the Salvatore brother quite a few times and saved those who were still human a few times when Stefan and Damon both tried to start violent situations. The 500 year old vampire had also trained Jessica per Elijah's directive and was pleased to see how fast Jessica caught onto everything that she was teaching the 15 year old immortal.
Jessica had progressed the farthest over the last three months. Her control over her blood lust was so much better than before. She was able to be affectionate with the people she cared about without having a panic attack or lashing out in some way when she was triggered. She also was very good at being able to hunt, heal, and compel a person to forget what happened to them. Jessica had stayed in contact with Elijah keeping him updated with everything Rose was doing for her and her family. Jessica was actually feeling rather giddy right now because Elijah had ordered a ring for Rose to have Jonas perform a daylight protection spell. The 15 year old immortal hummed and waltzed into the Gilbert home where Jeremy was drawing Rose in the time era Rose had grown up in. "Oh Roooooose," she called in an excited sing song voice giggling as she skipped up to the vampire. Jessica saw Rose's eyes turn to her, and the baby vampire smirked as she pulled out a black velvet box for the Brit to take from her.
Rose went wide eyed and looked at the box in Jessica's hand before looking at Jessica's hazel eyes. She moved from the pose that she had been in and gently took the box slowly opening it to see a daylight ring. Tears gathered in her eyes. "Please tell me this is some kind of joke Jessica," she pleaded softly. She knew full well that Jessica wasn't joking, but she couldn't believe it. She brightened as she slid the ring onto her right index finger and bit her lip slowly going over to the large amount of sunlight that was peeking through the back window. A strangled gasp escaped her throat as she felt the warmth of the sun on her skin, and she closed her eyes as tears of joy streamed down her cheeks.
Jessica and Jeremy looked at each other and smiled happily between themselves. They both knew how desperately Rose had wanted to be able to walk around during the day and were very happy that she could finally do that after all these years. A slight crease formed on Jessica's brow as she saw Elena and Jenna come through the front door. The last three months had been a lot of work especially for both Elena and Jessica on their relationship because Jessica was still a newborn vampire meaning her emotions were at an all-time high especially after what Elena said to her a week after Elijah left…
*Flashback - 1 week after Elijah left*
Jessica was sipping at the mug of blood she had warmed up scowling at the kitchen wall as Elena and Jenna were arguing over Alaric and what Jenna should do. Alaric was still friends with Damon and Elelna had rather liked Alaric and Jenna together, but it was because the teacher was still friends with Damon that made Jenna not want to date Alaric. The 15 year old immortal shut her eyes tightly trying to drown the two out but gave a low growl as Elena spoke after Jenna yet again reiterated that Damon was around Alaric too often and it was a big turn off.
"So what if Damon is around Alaric?" Elena asked with a frown that made it clear she seemed to have forgotten what they did to her sister. It had only been a week after Jessica came back into their lives after all. Many wounds were still healing and feelings were still near the surface.
"You did not just say that?!" Jessica snapped as she slammed the mug of blood on the counter with enough strength to break it. "Please tell me you're joking! Did you seriously forget what Damon did to me? What Stefan did to me? Or are you still so wrapped up in the fucking Salvatore brothers worshipping the altar you stand on to push aside the fact they abused your younger sister?!" she snapped raising her voice as her anger finally got the better of her. Jessica was shocked that her emotions stayed in control this long. "Is Saint Elena still trying to pretend to be Little Miss Perfect while everyone around her suffers?" Jessica was panting heavily, her face red as she caught her breath.
"Jessica!" Jenna scolded, shocked at what her niece said. Jenna knew that Jessica was warranted a little bit of anger, but based on what Rose and Elijah told them, new vampires had emotions that were more heightened than normal. Jenna had been expecting Jessica to react this way, but didn't think it would be this soon as Elijah had said she had been doing so well since she had turned.
"Damon wasn't the one who raped you! Stefan was!" Elena tried to justify not realizing what her mouth said as her brain tried to catch up. "And they don't worship at my altar! I am not Katherine!" she yelled, balling her fists. The Doppelganger went wide eyed as Jessica suddenly grabbed her throat, slamming her against the wall. Elena gasped for air clawing at Jessica's hand as her little sister's face changed and fangs grew. Black spots began dancing in her vision from how tight Jessica was holding her throat.
"Damon used me as a personal blood bag God knows how many times. He may not have raped me, but he did rape Caroline. Or did you forget that little tidbit," she hissed darkly as she slowly leaned closer to Elena's face wanting to see just how afraid of her Elena was at this moment. She didn't care about anything else except getting her point across. Her rage had completely taken over. Jessica knew with a little flick of her wrist, Elena's neck would be snapped and all of this would be over and done with. The young immortal didn't snap her sister's neck as a small, soft voice in the back of her mind told her that Elena didn't understand what she was going through.
"Jessica! Let her go! Right now!" Jenna yelled trying to get Jessica to stop silently hoping that Rose would come and stop the 15 year old from killing Elena. The red head gave a sigh of relief as Rose appeared, grabbing Jessica in her arms to keep the newborn from pouncing on Elena who sagged in Jenna's arms.
"I died because of you, Elena! I am now forever 15 because you have some sort of martyr, God complex thing you can't get over. Mom and Dad died because you - the child they took in because of pity!" Jessica screamed, struggling against Rose's grip as tears finally began streaming down her cheeks. Why couldn't Elena understand everything bad that happened to their family was because of her? Her parents would still be here if it weren't for Elena. With a burst of rage, Jessica broke free from Rose's grip and vanished from the Gilbert house and into the middle of the night to the forest.
Rose frowned slightly. "You don't throw rape into someone's face like that Elena. That was totally uncalled for," she said softly vanishing after the 15 year old.
*End Flashback*
Things were very tense after that incident. Jessica avoided everyone in the Gilbert house for almost two whole weeks as she learned from Rose on how to be a vampire. She only came home at around midnight and slept until 5 in the morning and was out of the house all day long at an abandoned property where Rose could teach her while the sun was out. Jessica had been cornered by Caroline - who had been approached by Jenna who had found out what Damon did from Elena - at the end of the second week. The blonde vampire practically cut ties with Elena when Jenna approached her, but stayed involved with the Doppelganger because of her little sister. The two newbie vampires formed a team of some sorts as they opened up to each other about their experiences and trauma they had gone through while they had both been human. Jessica looked up to the blonde because Caroline was everything that Jessica wanted to be. She was confident. She was practically perfect. She also was someone who always knew what to say at the perfect time. Jessica strived and craved to be someone like that one day.
A lot of things ended up changing about a month after Elijah left…Elena wanted to re-invite Stefan and Damon into the house – mainly Damon, but Jenna was adamant to not invite them in. She was ingesting vervain every day, wearing it, and even washing her hair with it. Jessica didn't believe that the Salvatores wanted to apologize especially since they had resorted to stalking her, Caroline, and Elena trying to talk with any one of them. Jessica couldn't stand it and felt rather unsafe to even go to school since Stefan when to Mystic Falls High.
Elena still had yet to apologize for what she had said to Jessica a week after Elijah left, but Jessica didn't care. She had always been petty and held a grudge very easily against those whom hurt her in any way. It was made even worse when she turned because now, Jessica refused to talk to Elena. She'll give her a faint nod in passing, but Jessica never spoke one word to Elena. Aunt Jenna - on the other hand - was someone she could easily talk to since Jenna now knew about the supernatural and was learning more about it everyday thanks to Rose and Bonnie. Jenna gave Jessica her full support on everything being a newborn vampire brought. She was weary though about how fast Jessica could snap in rage and anger especially at Elena. Another instance like the first happened a month after Elijah left.
*Flashback – 1 month after Elijah left*
Jessica was gripping the back of the dining room chair as she squeezed her eyes shut listening to Elena groan on and on about forgiving Damon and at least letting Stefan apologizing. She even brought up inviting them in so everyone could talk together. The 15 year old newborn wanted so badly to shut her sister up and never listen to her voice again, but knew neither Rose nor Jenna would be happy with her if she did that. Instead, Jessica was trying to control her breathing by reciting anime introductions in her head to try and calm down. Her knuckles were white from gripping the back of the chair tightly trying desperately not to break the chair and rage quit on her older sister. Elena truly was just like Katherine because of how she was talking about the Salvatore brothers. Jessica could hear the undertones in Elena's voice. She was leading both of the brothers on like Katherine did when the brothers had been human. She clenched her jaw as her anger finally got the better of her and a loud snapping sound was heard throughout the house causing Jeremy and Rose to come to the entrance of the kitchen. "Do you have any idea what you sound like Elena? You sound like a scratched, broken record going on and on and on about those two…two ASSHOLES! I will not be forgiving them so fucking easily Elena! Maybe in like four centuries if those two idiots are somehow still alive, but if you expect Jenna to let those two duck butts inside this house, you have another thing coming. Do you realize how I feel because of what Stefan did to me? After what Damon did? I have always had to try to be bigger than the shadow you cast on me, but now…now I want to sink into the shadows because of how dirty, how disgusting, how worthless I feel. Stefan took my virginity Elena. He didn't fucking care because he is a ripper who has a horrible addiction to human blood. He took the one thing I prided myself in keeping from all the stupid jocks who tried to use me to get to you!" Jessica was panting heavily at the end of her rant. She didn't understand how Elena was so stupid to think that she would forgive or even want to be around the Salvatore brothers.
Elena stood there staring at her sister gaping like a fish. She had never heard her sister curse before especially at her. The doppelgänger was in shock as she eventually shut her mouth irritated at how Jessica kept comparing her to Katherine. She wasn't leading on the Salvatore brothers or trying to make amends…was she? Doubt filled Elena. Was she really as bad as her vampire counterpart? There was no way, right? A loud yet frustrated sound left her throat as Elena turned and stomped past Rose and Jeremy and up to her bedroom.
Jenna was rubbing her temples and looked at her youngest niece. "Maybe it would be a good idea for you to get out of the house for the rest of the day," she suggested softly biting her lip lightly. She watched as Jeremy stepped forward saying he had texted Caroline to come over because of what had happened between Elena and Jessica.
Jessica looked down nodding as felt slightly guilty for yelling at Elena. The young vampire knew that she wasn't wrong for what she said, but for how she said her words. "Yeah…I'll see if Caroline can take me shopping. Is it okay if I stay at Caroline's place for the next few days? To let everything cool down?"
Jenna hugged her youngest niece and kissed the top of her hair. "I am not mad at you okay? I am just worried of what could happen if you two stay at each other's throats any longer. Wait a few days and everything should simmer down, alright?" She kissed Jessica's forehead and smiled as she nudged her. "Now go have some fun with Caroline," she ordered lightly.
*End Flashback*
Jessica had ended up staying with Caroline and her mom for over a month. Elena had slowly stated to come to terms that Jessica was right. She was acting like Katherine when it came to the Salvatore brothers. She was not acting like an older sister especially for her little sister who had gone through a very traumatic experience and was nowhere near healed from it. However, Elena was stubborn and didn't dare to apologize…at least not yet…she needed to be sure of herself in her beliefs and sure that Jessica wouldn't attack her again.
Fast forward another month to present day, and Jessica made sure to avoid Elena at all costs at the Gilbert House. Jessica and Jeremy rekindled their sibling bond and even began painting and drawing together again. They played video games together, and Jessica even began kicking Jeremy's ass at quite a few games as she didn't need as much sleep anymore now that she was a vampire. Rose continued to train Jessica testing her in the field so to speak every couple of weeks making sure Elijah was updated on Jessica's progress.
Right at this moment, however, Jessica and Jeremy were ignoring Elena and watching Rose happily dance around in the sunlight thanks to the daylight ring Elijah had gotten for the vampire. The 15 year old vampire smiled softly at how Rose was acting like a young kid in a candy store. "Hey Rose, want to come with Jeremy and I to the art store as we have to get more supplies?" she asked the 500 year old vampire.
Rose smiled brightly. "That sounds like a lovely idea!" she said excitedly and followed the two teens out of the Gilbert house to go to the art store.
