Hello again! I got another update for you and guess what, it's even longer than the last! And it's also a two part the final half is being written. I want to make something clear: I am not a scientist so any type of experiment done is not real if were to happen the Amazon wouldn't be looking so dead. I know ElizaxWyatt is a slowburn, but I plan on them heating up just a bit after the next chapter. That's all from me on with the story!
Chapter 4 the Experiment
(Eliza's POV)
DING! DING!
Eliza turns off the alarm on her phone she stretches and gets up going to take a shower. Letting the hot water hit her body she lathers her skin in her raspberry and citrus body wash. After she rinses it all off, she grabs her fluffy red towel drying herself off. Once she's dressed, she brushes out all the tangles in her hair and pulls it back into a high ponytail. Leaving her bathroom, she carefully grabs her six test tubes and flask heading downstairs. She places her stuff on the couch then heads to the kitchen smelling bacon.
"Morning mom." Eliza says then grabs a plate and gets some fruit and toast just as her mother comes over with a plate of bacon. "Good morning dear. Did you have a good night?" Her mother asks as they both sit down at the table. "I did I watch Zoey for Zed since his dad wasn't feeling well." Eliza says as she pours herself some orange juice. "He had a date with Addison, didn't he?" Her mother asks as she butters her toast. "Mmhm, then after they picked her up, I mixed the chemicals needed for my science project." Eliza says then eats her food. "That's good dear so what's on your agenda today?" Her mother asks. "I'm going out to the forest to collect some samples to test my theory, though I think I'll test it out there." Eliza says.
"Just make sure you are back by one were having a picnic in the park with the Well's." Her mother says. "Is Bucky going to be there?" Eliza asks with a groan. "I don't know, dear." Margret says. "Okay, if he is I can only tolerate him for so long." Eliza says. "I know, honey. Just steer clear of him for as long as possible." Margret says. "I try, but he's just everywhere. How much do you want to bet that they still have banners of him in the park?" Eliza asks. "Nothing, I know there are." Margret says. "I better get going." Eliza says drinking the last of her OJ. She takes her plate and puts it in the sink.
She opens the fridge and takes three containers with her then she grabs three plastic spoons. She takes that to her car first putting them in the passenger seat. Then she carefully grabs her test tubes and flask once she locks the front door, she puts the tubes and flask on the floor of her backseat. She pulls out of her driveway and towards the forest. She drives to the parking lot and turning off her engine she grabs her blueprints for her invention and gets to work. She still had an hour before she meets with Wyatt so why not get it all completed? She sketches the wristband for her invention adding a special design to it. She then sketches more designs just in case she doesn't like this one. Nodding to herself she checks the time. I have 20 minutes before I have to meet Wyatt, I better get moving.
Putting her blueprints in her glove compartment she grabs her backpack and puts the three containers in and zips it up. Going to the backseat she grabs her test tubes and flask closing the door and locking her car she makes her way to the gate. When she gets there, she squeezes through without dropping her stuff she sees Wyatt in the clearing he looks nervous.
"Wyatt, hey, what's wrong?" Eliza asks.
"Please don't be mad at me." Wyatt says. Before Eliza can even respond two giant arms wrap around her waist lifting her off the ground.
"Who is this?!" Eliza demands.
"Can you put her down gently big guy? Please?" Wyatt asks as he comes closer. Eliza is lowered to the ground slowly then released. Swiftly she turns around and kicks whoever was holding her. The taller male yelps and hops on one foot holding his knee.
"Who are you?" Eliza asks.
"Eliza meet Bonzo." Wyatt says scratching the back of his neck. "I told him I was coming to meet with you and well there's no point in running from a hunter." Wyatt says.
"I thought you didn't want me to know about any other members of your pack." Eliza says crossing her arms.
"I didn't plan on this happening, Bonzo is a really nice wolf." Wyatt says.
"Nice to meet you, sorry that I scared you." Bonzo signs.
"He doesn't talk?" Eliza asks.
"He does, only when it's important. He can tell you his story when he's ready." Wyatt says.
"Just as long as he doesn't do that again, nobody likes to be taken by surprise." Eliza says.
"I understand. It won't happen again, can I stay?" Bonzo signs.
"Fine, whatever, just don't touch my stuff." Eliza says walking in the further into the forest. The boys follow her after about 30 minutes of silence Eliza stops putting her flask and tubes onto a nearby stump.
"So, what needs to be done?" Wyatt asks.
"First I need a stable tree root and any type of seed you can find fruit or plant based." Eliza says.
"Why do you need those?" Bonzo signs.
"I think it would be better if I showed you." Eliza says.
"Okay so we meet back here in 30 minutes?" Wyatt asks. The trio nod heading off in different directions. Bonzo going to gather fruit seeds, Eliza going to gather stable roots, and Wyatt gathering different types of leaves.
When they meet back at the spot and Eliza sets the roots down. Then she chooses what she wants from their piles. Not knowing what seed, she picked or what leaf she brings to dig a hole big enough for the root. The boys help her and when its big enough she grabs the root and sticks it in the ground making sure to drop the seed and the leaf in the hole before she asks the boys to cover it up.
"It's all covered, so what now?" Wyatt asks.
"Now I test my theory." Eliza says then she grabs two foiled test tubes. "This is nutrients and minerals." She says as she unwraps them and then pours them onto the now covered hole. Then she pulls the cork off the flask. "This is my special ingredient, and no I can't tell you what it is just yet." She says then pours up to the marked line on the flask before putting the cork back on.
"So, it will grow again?" Bonzo signs.
"That's my theory and it should grow a lot faster too." Eliza says.
"How long do we have to wait?" Wyatt asks.
"I don't know this is the first time I've tried this." Eliza says taking a seat near the stump and starts the timer on her phone. The trio form a triangle around the root.
"So, how was the rest of your night?" Eliza asks.
"Willa wants the human knowing our business dealt with or she will deal with her." Bonzo says. Eliza's eyes widen then she looks at Wyatt. "Willa is Wyatt's sister." Bonzo adds.
"Your sister wants me dead?" Eliza asks glaring at Wyatt.
"Not, dead, just out of the way. Our pack is getting sicker by the day." Wyatt says.
"So, why hasn't it affected you?" Eliza asks.
"We are fourth generation werewolves; most of the elders are first and second generation wolfs. It affects them, because they have had their Moonstones longer. The werepups won't be affected by this either for some time." Bonzo signs.
"Werepups?" Eliza asks.
"Yes, the generation after us. They recently received their Moonstones." Wyatt says.
"So, teens are basically running the pack?" Eliza asks.
"Willa is our Alpha." Bonzo says.
"I thought that the alpha could only be a male." Eliza says.
"Not always, the first born is normally the Alpha and the second is the Beta." Wyatt says.
"So, your second in command?" Eliza asks. Wyatt nods. "That's cool, still doesn't explain why I need to be out of the way. I want to help." Eliza says.
"I see that, but Willa doesn't trust humans." Bonzo says.
"Someone close to her got hurt?" Eliza asks.
"Our father, he was taking her hunting, when they were spotted by humans. Father hid Willa high up in a tree completely out of sight. The men were also hunting, they beat our father to death, cutting off his ears and breaking off his fangs. Willa saw it all happen; she was 7 then she didn't come down from that tree for days. We almost didn't find her." Wyatt pauses looking at Eliza's face she was sad. "When we did, she was clutching Father's Moonstone so hard she didn't even realize she had his dried blood on her hands."
"Wyatt, I'm so sorry." Eliza says.
"Hey, it's fine, I maybe the younger brother, but I know now not all of you are bad." Wyatt says.
"If this works Willa might be open to meeting you, but that will take time." Bonzo signs.
"Time that your elders might not have." Eliza says then rubs her temples.
Just then a rustling happened before them, the root that they had just planted began to sprout. Out of the seeds came oranges and the leaf was red. Eliza stopped her phone timer. The root had taken 20 minutes to sprout into a tree.
"It worked." Eliza whispered proud of herself. Then she felt arms around her and she was being spun around. "Hey what did you promise?" Eliza says though she not mad.
"That's not me." Bonzo signs from the other side of the tree.
"Wyatt, put me down!" Eliza laughs.
"Can't this is so much fun!" Wyatt says. Though after a while he gets dizzy and lets her down. When she's steady on her feet she walks over to the root turned tree and plucks an orange.
"Wait, let us go first." Bonzo says gently grabbing her wrist.
"Why, I only used one toxic chemical." Eliza asks.
"But we have our Moonstones, so if it is poisonous, we'll be able to heal faster." Wyatt says gently taking the orange from her.
"Fine." Eliza says. Wyatt unpeels the orange and give some to Bonzo, they both take a bite at the same time. "Well, is it safe?" Eliza asks.
"Is a test supposed to taste so amazing?" Bonzo signs.
"So, it really worked?" Eliza asks smiling.
"Try it for yourself and see." Wyatt says handing her the last few slices. Eliza takes them, eating half her eyes widen. She eats the rest.
"Okay so far, I'm not dead, though I could be in the next 24 hours." Eliza says. Wyatt rolls his eyes.
"Are you always such a downer?" Wyatt asks.
"No, I'm just being realistic." Eliza says. She goes over to the pile and grabs another root, some seeds and a leaf. "Come on, I want try this again, I should have enough for a few more tests." She says moving to a different area. The boys gather her backpack, test tubes, and flask along with some more roots, seeds and plants.
When they reach their next spot, Eliza is already digging. Bonzo places her ingredients next to her. Wyatt places her bag on a nearby stump. The wolfs help her cover up the seed and the leaf. Eliza repeats the same process as before. She starts her timer again.
"Why do you do that?" Bonzo signs then points to her phone.
"I'm just keep track of the time it takes to grow. The orange tree took 20 minutes, I want to see if this has the same run time." Eliza says. Then someone's stomach growls. "Wyatt did you not eat again?" Eliza asks.
"That's not me." Wyatt says then both he and Eliza look at Bonzo.
"I didn't eat." Bonzo signs.
"It's rare for you to ever skip a meal, big guy what happened?" Wyatt asks.
"I wanted to meet her." Bonzo says looking at Eliza.
"As sweet as that is, you should have still eaten something." Eliza says as she grabs her backpack from the stump unzipping it.
"Eliza's right, your one of our best hunters we need you at your best." Wyatt says just as Eliza pulls out three containers.
"What is that?" Bonzo signs.
"This is fruit, granola crumbles, and yogurt." Eliza says as Bonzo and Wyatt get closer to her. She opens the container of yogurt then the granola dumping it all in the yogurt and mixing it with one of the spoons. Setting the yogurt container in her lap she opens the last container with the fruit and adding it in. She mixes it container again and then pulls out the other two spoons. "I hope you like yogurt." Eliza says.
"Never had it before, but if it's just like the pizza I'm sure I will." Wyatt says taking one of the spoons.
"Pizza? What is that?" Bonzo asks taking the last spoon.
"I'll tell you later, big guy." Wyatt says then gets a spoonful of yogurt.
The trio eat in comfortable silence and after a while they hear the rustling for the root. Eliza stops her timer. This tree took about 35 minutes to grow. The apples on the tree are red and yellow. Just like the last time the boys take the first bite making sure it's safe. And it is, when Eliza takes a bite, she's completely fine.
"Let's see what else we can grow." Eliza says as she gathers her stuff they head back to where they started and this time Eliza only grabs a root and two of the same kind of leaves.
Wyatt finds a spot close to the lake with plenty of space the trio begins to dig once more. Eliza sticks the root in as Bonzo puts the leaves in and Wyatt covers the hole. Once the chemicals are in the ground Eliza starts her timer. Her phone chimes she looks at the message from Addison letting her know that Bree was going to be at the picnic and so was Bucky. She groans.
"What's wrong?" Wyatt asks.
"Someone that I loathe is going to be at the picnic this afternoon." Eliza says putting her phone down.
"Who is it?" Bonzo signs.
"A boy who used to go to school with me and my friends, he didn't exactly make school easy for us." Eliza says. "And he had a crush on me." Eliza says rolling her eyes.
"So, don't go we could grow more trees instead." Wyatt says.
"As much as I would love to do that, I can't I already told my mom I would be there. Plus, I'm out of my special ingredient and the nutrients and minerals. I will have to make more." Eliza says.
"So, why not tell your mom something came up?" Bonzo signs.
"It would be rude to miss the picnic that will celebrate my mom's success as the town's best engineer. And I want to talk to Mayor Wells about a cleanup of the forest." Eliza says.
"Think she would be up for it?" Wyatt asks.
"I'm not sure, it could be a possibility. She did cancel a whole cheer competition just so her daughter's broken leg could heal." Eliza says then the rustling happens. She stops her timer this one took 15 minutes to grow. "What is this?" Eliza asks.
"These leaves, we use them to make Echinacea, this is great we have plenty of roots and stalk back at the den." Bonzo signs.
"Yes, even if the elders can't take any of it right now it has other uses." Wyatt says.
"So, it's a good thing?" Eliza asks.
"Yes, it is. Thank you, Eliza." Bonzo signs. Eliza smiles.
"My pleasure. Since I'm all out of recourses at the moment I'm going to head back." Eliza says.
"So soon? I thought you wanted to delay going to that picnic as much as possible." Wyatt says.
"I do, but I also need to make so much more of this stuff so that next time I can be out here longer. And this was just a trail run. A successful one at that." Eliza says.
"We understand." Bonzo signs then extends a hand which Eliza shakes.
"I'll walk her back to her car and meet you to take the roots and seeds back to the den." Wyatt says.
"We can take the fruit to the den also, so everyone can try it." Bonzo signs. Wyatt nods they head in different directions.
Once they reach her car Eliza puts everything in the backseat then turns to face Wyatt.
"This was great." Eliza says. "It was." Wyatt agrees. "Do you think your sister will like what we did?" Eliza asks. "I don't know, Willa has a way of surprising you." Wyatt says. "Well, as long as you can try to convince her to let me help." Eliza says. "And if the Mayor will agree to the forest being cleaned up." Wyatt counters. "Okay I get it we both have things to do, speaking of which I should get going." Eliza says. "Save me a plate of something?" Wyatt asks. "Why?" Eliza asks. "I want to try new kinds of foods." Wyatt says simply. "Okay, I'll see what I can do." Eliza says. "Cool, I'll stop by tonight to pick it up." Wyatt says. "Fine." Eliza says then gets in her car, she waves to Wyatt and then turns on the engine.
Once she gets home, she takes a shower and dresses nice, but simple she doesn't need the attention to be taken away from her mom. After she finishes mixing her ingredients, she puts then in her mini fridge to cool for a couple of days, she grabs her phone and keys heading to the park. With her window down she enjoys the breezes. Once she finds a place to park someone that she really wanted to avoid shows up.
"Eliza, long time no see did you miss me?" Eliza internally groaned at the voice as she put her car in park and cut the engine.
