Chapter 9 Forest Gift
Saturday morning
(Eliza's POV)
"Eliza get up you have to get ready!" Bree yells causing Eliza to fall out of bed and land on Addison.
"Ouch! Bree!" Addison screams.
"Did you have coffee again you know how that makes you this early in the morning. Addison are you okay?" Eliza asks once she is off her.
"I just want an hour and half more of sleep!" Addison says then covers her face with her pillow.
"Come on, it's not that early." Bree says.
"Bree, it's 6:30 plus you and Addison had stayed up till 3 this morning watching titanic." Eliza says rolling her eyes and pulling her comforter over her head. Bree pulls her legs. "No, Bree I am sleeping a bit longer. And do not drink anymore coffee." Eliza says.
Four hours later...
Addison and Eliza wake up at the same time.
"What happened to Bree?" Eliza asks as she gets out of bed. "She's probably eating something." Addison says. "Maybe." Eliza says, both girls head downstairs to find Bree snoring softly on the couch. "Okay, I was wrong." Addison says. "This is what happens when she has caffeine too early in the morning." Eliza says shaking her head. "Let's wake her up so we can eat." Addison says. Eliza nods but lets her wake Bree up.
Eliza walks into the kitchen and opens the refrigerator she takes out eggs, toast, hashbrowns, cheese, and sausage setting the ingredients on the counter. She puts toast in the toaster, eggs, and sausage in the skillet she will does the hashbrowns after.
Addison and Bree come over and help as Eliza gets juices out of the refrigerator and sets them on the table.
"So, when are you going to get ready?" Bree asks once breakfast is cooked, they all make a plate and sit at the dining room table.
"Bree, it's not even noon yet." Eliza says then eats some hashbrowns.
"She has plenty of time, Bree don't worry." Addison says.
"Your right, I'm just so excited for you Eliza, your very first boyfriend!" Bree squeals. Eliza almost chokes on her apple juice.
"Whoa, hey wait a sec there Bree, he is NOT my boyfriend!" Eliza says.
"Not, yet anyway." Addison says. Eliza groans.
"What's this I hear about my Eliza may or may not be having a boyfriend?" The girls turn to the front door to see Margret. "And why am I only hearing about it now?" She asks.
"Mom, I promise that I'm just friends with this guy." Eliza says.
"His name is Wyatt and he's homeschooled." Bree says. Eliza glares at her.
"Thank you, Bree." Margret says. "Eliza the rest of the ingredients for your clean-up project are in the trunk of my car." She then heads upstairs.
Eliza gets up without a word to either of her friends and heads out the front door, not noticing that her friends were right behind her.
"Eliza I'm so sorry I thought she knew." Bree says.
"Well, obviously not! What the hell did you expect me to tell her? 'Hey mom I met this guy named Wyatt in the woods and he scared the shit out of me when we first met!' Yes, she would have been ecstatic!" Eliza says sarcastically.
"Wait, you didn't tell us that he scared you." Addison says.
"Your right I didn't, just like how I didn't tell either of your moms that you wanted to check out that new Smoothie shop when we were supposed to be watching Zoey and your cousin Bree!" Eliza says.
"I feel terrible." Bree says.
"Bree didn't mean to hurt you like that." Addison says.
"Maybe not, but now I have to have a conversation with my mom that I'm not ready to have." Eliza says then sighs. "Just don't do it again okay." Eliza grabs some of the ingredients while her friends grab the rest and take it upstairs to her room. Then they all go back down to gather their plates and wash them.
They all head back up to Eliza's room one by one they take a shower.
"So, what now?" Addison asks.
"Well, I want to get all the nutrients and my special ingredient made so I don't have too tomorrow." Eliza says putting on goggles and gloves, then grabbing her flasks and test tubes. Bree and Addison grab some goggles also and gloves. "Okay then let's get to work." Eliza says.
After about four hours they are finished and put everything in Eliza's refrigerators.
"How can you do that for hours on end?" Addison asks as she falls back in Eliza's bed.
"I love science, so it is not that hard. Plus, you two helping cut the time down in half." Eliza says as she takes off her goggles and gloves.
"Do you think that it's enough?" Bree asks.
"Oh, yeah it's more than enough." Eliza says. "Why don't we watch a movie?" Eliza says.
"Yay we can watch Prince Caspian since we all watched the first one in creative writing!" Bree says.
"Yeah, why not? Quick we need snacks! Eliza start the movie!" Addison and Bree take off downstairs as Eliza puts in the movie, she had just skipped the credits as her friends come back in with snacks and drinks.
"We can agree that Peter and Caspian are the most handsome right?" Bree asks after Peter and Caspian's first sword fight is interrupted.
"I can agree with that." Eliza says and Addison nods her head.
They continue to watch the movie and towards the end Eliza gets ready to go. Her friends nod their heads in approval.
"Okay, if my mom asks, I went for a walk, and I'll be back in time to change." Eliza says grabbing her phone and purse before grabbing her shoes
"How long do you think you'll be out there?" Bree asks.
"Yeah, just in case you mom asks." Addison says.
"I'm honestly not sure, I'll text one of you when I'm heading back though." Eliza says as she puts on her boots. Then she heads out of her room down the stairs grabbing her set of keys and opening the door. After she locks it, she heads down to her car and heads off to the woods. She parks in parking lot and gets out she walks the clearing where she first met Wyatt.
"Hey, you're here." Wyatt says startling her. "Seriously, Wyatt what the hell?" Eliza says. "Sorry, I can't help that I'm just naturally sneaky." Wyatt says. "Whatever, why am I here and why did you want to meet before the dance?" Eliza asks. Wyatt scratches the back of his neck nervously.
"Wyatt is it your mom is she getting worse?" Eliza asks. "What? No, it is not that." Wyatt says avoiding eye contact. "Then what?" Eliza asks again. "Um, how about you turn around." Wyatt says. "What's the big deal it's nothing I haven't seen before." Eliza says not looking the way he is. "Eliza please." Wyatt says. "Fine, wha-." Eliza stops mid-sentence turning around and seeing the forest lit up with lights.
"What is all this, and why didn't I notice it when I arrived?" Eliza asks. "Well, you weren't paying attention and the lights were turned off." Wyatt says. "Well, this is nice." Eliza says. "Shall we?" Wyatt asks extending his elbow Eliza rolls her eyes playfully and loops her arm through his. He leads her deeper into the lit-up forest to where there is a makeshift dance floor, and you can see the river.
"How did you do all this?" Eliza asks. "I had some help." Wyatt says releasing her arm and going over to a tree and getting a flower, a dahlia. "You remembered." Eliza says. "Of course, you had been admiring the necklace the pups made you most of the night." Wyatt says as he ties the flower around her wrist. Music plays softly behind them. "So, Bonzo helped I assume?" Eliza asks. "You and your assumptions, but you would be right this time." Wyatt says then takes her hand and spins her around before pulling her back toward his chest. Eliza wraps her arms around his neck.
As they sway to the music Eliza wonders what made him want to do this. He had so much stuff to be worrying about so why would he do this for her?
"Why did you do all this?" Eliza asks as the next song begins. "Well, you said that you didn't have a date to your dance, so I thought why not give her one?" Wyatt says as he gently twirls them around. "There's more to it than that." Eliza says simply. "And there you go with again with the assumptions, do you think I have so alter motive for doing this?" Wyatt asks. "Well, yeah. I mean no one has ever done this for me before." Eliza says averting her gaze. "So, if I like you would that be enough of a reason?" Wyatt asks. "W-what you like me?" Eliza looks at him eyes wide in shock. "Is it really that surprising?" Wyatt asks Eliza stops dancing and let's go of his neck.
"I mean, yeah, I'm an outcast outside of my friends. 'The Way too smart girl' at school." Eliza says. "Well, I guess it's a good thing that I'm not in school." Wyatt says with a smirk. "Why don't you think you could be good at it?" Eliza asks. "No, I'd probably be really great at it, but it's humans only." Wyatt says. "Right, how could I forget?" Eliza says then looks down at her watch.
"I wish I could stay, but I have to go." Eliza says. "Wait, these are for you and your friends." Wyatt says as he goes back to the tree and pulls out a pair of fingerless fur gloves and two feather boas. "Wyatt, you didn't have too." Eliza says taking the items. "I wanted to." Wyatt says with a big toothy grin. "Well, thank you." Eliza says. "You're welcome. Here I'll carry them to your car." Wyatt says then starts walking in the direction of the parking lot. Eliza follows. After putting the items in her passenger seat, she turns to Wyatt.
"Thanks again for the stuff and for the dance." Eliza says "Of course, don't party too hard." Wyatt says with a wink. "I'll try not to." Eliza says then walks over to the driver's side and is about to open the door when Wyatt spins her around and kisses her on the cheek. "Drive safe." He whispers then walks away leaving a blushing Eliza behind. Coming to her senses she gets in her car and drives back home.
Addison and Bree are mostly ready by the time she gets back, so after grabbing the items out of her car she dashes upstairs to change into her dress and shoes then gets her hair done.
"Hey, how was it?" Bree asks sitting at her desk and Addison on her bed.
"It was better than I expected, Bree don't look at me like that you know I'm no good at explaining this kind of stuff." Eliza says than blushes thinking about the kiss.
"Well, something so happened otherwise you wouldn't be blushing. Spill." Addison says.
"Okay, he kissed me on the cheek." Eliza says.
"Oh, Eliza that is so cute!" Bree says.
"And he made these, I'm guess the boas are for you two because they don't match my dress." Eliza says as she grabs the pink and blue boa.
"These will go great with our dresses!" Addison says happily as she takes the pink boa and Bree smiles widely as she takes the blue one.
They finish getting ready and head downstairs taking a few pictures before Zed comes.
When he does he looks great as Addy's date his hair has not changed.
"Wow, you guys look amazing!" Zed says. "We are gonna be the most talked about tonight!" Eliza rolls her eyes. "For once you're right, let's get going." She says after they take some pictures with Zed they head off to the Homecoming dance.
