Movie Scott 2004 POV.
After finishing all the post flight checks on Thunderbird two, he headed up to his room for a shower. He wasn't a doctor. He could not do anything for the strange passengers he had flown straight to his home. He hoped that they had made the right decision, bringing them back to the island. The boys would not be left alone until they knew for certain.
The family gathered in the command centre, for a post mission debriefing. They waited on more information about the boys, who was down with Frank Wynberg, their physician, and Virgil in the infirmary. They needed more information before they could debrief that part of the mission more thoroughly. His dad eventually decided that it could wait until the next morning, when Virgil informed them that the older of the boys fell asleep from exhaustion. The younger boy was still unconscious receiving treatment. They would not get any good quality information at the moment anyway.
They had a quick dinner before the family went their separate ways. Scott was curious about the whole situation. He decided to head down to the infirmary to check the boys out. He trusted his family. Gordon had relayed the conversation between the two brothers, back in Thunderbird two on the way home, during the debriefing. For someone to have found out all that personal insider information, seemed quite unlikely. Both Gordon and Virgil were good at reading people. Scott would make up his own mind later.
When Scott entered the infirmary, he saw a blond kid sleeping on a chair. He still had a blue rescue uniform on. The doctor had probably taken the blonds kid brother, to do an x-ray of his lungs. Standard procedure after drowning. Poor kid had probably not wanted to leave his brother. Scott could relate to that. This kid was not going to take care of himself until his brother was better. With a deep sigh, Scott decided to do it for him. He already had managed to wrangle four younger brothers, what was a couple of more. Scott went over and tried to wake up the kid.
"Hey! Kid! You can't sleep like this. "Scott said while gently shaking the kid's shoulder.
"Scott… five more minutes." Was the groggy response he was met with. How did the kid know it was him without even opening his eyes. Did he recognise him half-awake only by voice?
"Rise and shine sleepyhead. Let's get you cleaned up and ready for bed. If you sleep on that chair your back isn't going to thank you in the morning. Come on!".
"I'll be fine 'cause I'm not a grumpy old man like you. Just let me be, I had the most terrible dream". The kid said.
"Grumpy old man? I'm not old! Watch it kid! Come on now, wake up! You realise you must open your eyes to wake up! Up we go." Scott said, as he pulled the kid up onto his feet.
That finally got the wanted reaction out of the kid, who opened his eyes. He looked around confused, seemingly not recognising where he was. He looked up to Scott who still had a grip on his arm. Realisation set in on his face, as he jerked his arm out of Scott's grip and fell on the floor.
"No, no, no, no! It wasn't a dream!" The kid mumbles, holding his head between his hands, rocking back and forth.
Scott tried to calm the kid down. "Hey kid! Try to relax! You are safe! You are at Tracy Island. Do you remember? We picked you and your brother up in…".
Scott was interrupted by a panicked scream "Alan! Where is Alan? Did something happen to him? Is he okay? I tried to stay awake to look after him. Dammit! I failed him. Oh no, Allie! Is he dead?".
Scott felt his heart breaking, when the kid started to cry on the floor, blaming himself for his brother's death. He interrupted the kid, as soon as his brain started working again. He gave in to his big brother instincts as he followed the kid down to the floor. Scott gathered him up in his arms and said "Alans fine! You did not fail him! You saved him! He almost drowned but he is getting better. He is alive!".
The heartbroken kid in his arms finally heard him. He stopped his panicked rocking, looked up at Scott, tears still dripping down his face. Asking in a small voice, sounding scared to hear the answer "Allie is alive?".
Scott tried to smile as reassuringly as possible while answering" Yea kid, Allie is alive. From what I heard, that is thanks to you. You did not fail him! You saved him!".
"Where is he then?" The kid demanded.
Scott answered "They just took him to another room for an x-ray of his lungs. You saved him out of the water and by getting him here. But he still needs some treatment to get better. Let our doctor help him for now.".
The kid let out a relived sigh and reluctantly agreed.
Scott continued "You know I have a way for you to help your brother." When the kid looked up expectingly he continued "By taking care of yourself, so you can take care of him later.".
Scott got an annoyed groan in response. The kid had finally calmed down a bit.
"Let's make a deal. If we get you out of that wet uniform you're wearing, into a hot shower, in some dry clothes, some hot food and fluids into you, I will bring you back here with another bed so that you can sleep next to your brother. He should be finished with all his examinations then. Do we have a deal?" Scott held out his hand waiting for a handshake, to seal the deal.
The kid thought for a while before he took Scott's hand and shook it while saying "You sound exactly like my brother Scott. When you woke me up, I first thought you were him and that this was all a bad dream.".
"Ouch, that is rough kid. I may not be your Scott, but I still am a Scott Tracy. We are not entirely sure what is going on, but the working theory is that you two are our brothers' counterparts from an alternative universe. So even if I am technically still a stranger to you, I don't think any version of me wouldn't take care of his younger brothers. If my brothers were in your situation, I would hope that he would do the same. So please, Gordon, let me help you!" At Gordons small nod, Scott pulled him up on his legs again.
Gordon let out a small wet laugh and said "I cried all over you. I wouldn't call you a stranger anymore.".
Scott smirked in return "It comes with the job of being a big brother".
Finally, Scott saw a glint of mischief, that he recognised in his own brother, returned to this Gordon's eyes as he said "Scott Tracy, Smother-hen extraordinaire, a constant in several universes. Who would have thought.". Gordon stumbled on his feet in his overtiredness, but before he could fall on his face Scott caught him. Scott pulled his arm over his shoulder to support Gordons weight.
Scott laughed "I'm glad to be a universal constant.".
Scott manhandled this smaller version of his brother to the guestroom with a seat in the shower. Never underestimate how nice it is, to be able to clean yourself, when you are too tired or injured to stand up. He left this version of Gordon alone, to freshen up in peace.
Scott headed to the kitchen, where he met up with Onaha. Onaha Kyrano was employed as the Tracy family's housekeeper while her husband took care of the house property and gardens. They lived full time on the island with their daughter Tintin. They were like a part of the family! Having been there since they moved to the Island from the farm in Kansas. All people living on the island had been informed by Jeff of what had happened.
Scott asked Onaha if she could make some food for the boy. Explaining what had just happened in the infirmary. Onaha immediately agreed and got to work, glad to help this traumatized child whose brother almost died. She made her own favourite comfort food, soup and fresh homemade bread. Onaha also prepared her special blend of calming tea for him. She suspected that he might have trouble sleeping after his horrendous day.
Scott continued his smother-hen quest after thanking Onaha. He searched for some clothes that could fit this smaller Gordon. He went to knock on his Gordon's door. His Gordon quickly agreed and turned around to pull out some of his old clothes. Scott watched as his brother roamed around for something that could fit in his closet. While waiting on his brother, Scott noticed the differences between the two Gordons. The did not look the same and seem to be different ages. But the way they acted was quite similar.
Scott was pulled back from his thoughts when Gordon asked him if he was okay.
"Of course, I'm okay!" Scott replied a little too quickly.
"Uhum…" Gordon answered while crossing his arms, raising one eyebrow.
Scott wasn't getting out of this one. Not when Gordon was in this mood. Sometimes honesty was the best policy.
"Fine, I'm a bit shaken up with the situation. I just comforted a miserable version of you. And well, thought of you." Scott tried to explain.
"Awe, big bro, you care." Gordon tried to joke. But continued when he saw that Scott wasn't amused "I'm alright! We all are. Do you need a hug?" he said half teasingly.
Scott's response was crushing Gordon in a bearhug. Squeezing a bit too hard to be comfortable. "I hate seeing any of my brothers in pain. I did not know until today, that it included alternative ones. He is not you, but he is acting similar. Even seeing a version of you hurt, hurts me. Of course, I care about you! You annoying little shrimp.".
"I know Speedster. Now go and smother the other me, who actually needs it!" Gordon pulled away from Scott's embrace, slapping him on his back.
"Fine" Scott said and turned away.
"Think fast!" Scott turned around only to be greeted by a set of clothes to his face. Gordon smirked in response to Scott's glare. "Not so fast are you now Speedster! You forgot them! What was I supposed to do? Too much brotherly love in the air. Must have some normalcy, you know.".
After that Scott's face relaxed again as he left Gordon's room saying "Whatever, Fish face!".
Scott went back to the other Gordon in the guest room and knocked on the door to the bathroom. "Hey Gordon, are you finished? I found some fresh clothes for you." A hand popped out the door and grabbed the clothes before it shut again. A couple of minutes later, a figure with too big clothes emerged from the bathroom. He looked even more like a kid with the oversized clothes.
"Sorry, it was the best we could do with what we had on hand." Scott said apologetically. "Come on, Onaha should have some soup ready in the kitchen. Let's go!".
"Onaha? Who is that?" The smaller Gordon asked while being supported by Scott to the kitchen.
"She is our chef and housekeeper. She and her family lives with us on the island. Don't you have a version of her at home?" Scott asked. Scott immediately regretted asking, when he saw how Gordons face fell at the mentioning of home.
"No." was the response he received as they walked into the kitchen.
Onaha greeted them with a smile and bought out some soup and homemade bread. Paired with some juice for quick calories. Gordon devoured it as soon as he started eating. Declaring to Onaha that it was one of the best meals he's ever had in his entire life. Thanking her profusely before she brought over seconds and a can of water as the juice already was in Gordon's stomach.
"Hey Gordon, slow down, you eat like you haven't had any real food in days." Scott said with a slightly disapproving frown.
"That's because I haven't" Gordon responded between bites.
"What! Why not!" Scott shouted in outrage.
"We been bogged down with rescue after rescue nonstop the last couple of weeks, all hands-on deck situation. We were so tired when we got home so we prioritized sleep and survived on protein bars and snacks when we were able during rescues. The celery bar ones are quite good in a weird way." Gordon shrugged his shoulders in a what can you do gesture.
Onaha chose that moment to return with a pot of calming tea and some homemade chocolate chip cookies, asking the boys if they needed anything more before she retired to bed.
Gordon continued to sing his praises to Onaha "Thank you very much Onaha for the amazing meal! I am sorry to inconvenience you, but I really appreciated it! Thank you for everything!".
Onaha looked quite pleased and wished both a good night.
As Scott and Gordon drank tea and had cookies, Virgil ran through the kitchen looking frantic. He stopped when he saw the pair and shouted sternly "YOU!" while pointing at Gordon.
Gordon pointed at himself and said "What? Me?".
Virgil groaned and ran his fingers through his hair "Yes, you!". Virgil took a deep breath and continued "I have been looking everywhere for you. When we got back from the x-ray room with your brother, you were gone!".
Gordon was quick to point to Scott and said "His fault, he bribed me. How is Alan? Can I see him now?".
Gordon turned to Scott and said, "I held up my end of the bargain, now it is your turn.".
Virgil glared at Scott asking, "What did you do?".
"Calm down both of you! I told the kid that if he let me take care of him that he could sleep next to his brother in the infirmary. Sorry that I forgot to inform you Virgil. Can you tell us how Alan is before I take Gordon down to see him so that we don't disturb Alan" Scott tried to deescalate the situation. He pulled out a chair at the table and gestured to Virgil to sit down.
Virgil sat down and explained Alans condition, over a cup of Onaha's calming tea that Scott brought him. "I think Alan was quite lucky under the circumstances.".
"Lucky?! You think he was lucky? He almost died; do you realise that!? I had to pump my little brother's blood and breathe for him because he couldn't himself and you call that lucky?! How dare you…" Gordons screams was interrupted before he could finish his sentence by Virgil.
"Yes! I call him lucky, and here is why! The survival rate statistics for persons picked up from drowning, without a pulse and without breathing, is seven percent. Seven! Alan is still here! He is one of those seven percent!" Virgil said with a raised voice.
All colour from Gordon's face disappeared. Virgil sighed and continued in a calmer voice "I do not think that he was under water for a long time. If I understand correctly, you saw when he went under, and went after him immediately.".
Gordon still pale as a ghost, answered in a low voice "Yea, we were on a rescue, we had almost gotten everybody out. Alan was the only one left, when the facility unexpectedly exploded. He hit his head on the metal railing and then fell into the ocean. I hooked myself up on a rescue line and jumped after him immediately after informing my brothers of what happened. I told them to be ready to pick us up. It felt like forever trying to find him, but it could at most have been a few minutes. Then you picked us up instead.". Gordon looked down on his shaking hands.
Virgil continued, trying to draw Gordon out of the memory "The fact that he received CPR so fast and that he only was without oxygen for a couple of minutes, was what made him a part of the seven percent survival rate group. The shorter Alan was without oxygen, the risk of serious complications lessens. He was also on CPR for only two minutes before we got a regular pulse back.".
"Alan woke up during our examinations. That is a wonderful sign. We have ruled out both SIRS, that is damage to tissue due to lack of oxygen, and ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome)." Virgil explaining.
"His blood sugar levels are under control. One complication he is about to develop is pneumonia, we saw signs of it on the x-ray, but it is still too early to say how bad it will be. We have already started him on a broad-spectrum antibiotic to counter that. We still have to lookout for Sepsis, and for any dips in saturation in his blood. But right now, he is off oxygen completely. Holding good saturation levels on air. We will still monitor his heart rate, but it has been beating regularly since the defibrillation got it back on track." Virgil continued explaining.
"The big bump on his head, was also a cause of concern. His blood work is within normal parameters. Headwounds bleed a lot. We stopped it before it became a problem. We did several neurological tests; your strange circumstance was a cause of concern when he got the year and president wrong. I need to know to be able to assess him correctly. Are you really from 2060?" Virgil asked.
Gordon paused before he responded, "Yes we are from year 2060, What year is it here?".
"It is 2004" Scott responded.
"Why did our lives have to turn into a bad sci-fi movie?" Gordon sighed, "At least it explains why the technology is so off, or rather old.".
Virgil resumed talking "Let's get back to that later, I am too tired to even try to wrap my head around it!".
Receiving affirmative nods, Virgil continued "To rule out the possibility of a brain bleed, we took an x-ray of his head. The X-ray, together with the other results from the neurologic testing, are pointing to a mild concussion. I am heading for bed. I am beyond exhausted. Let's deal with everything else in the morning.".
Before Virgil could go and pass out in his bed, he was tackled by a smaller version of his brother. The not his Gordon hugged him tight, whispering a flood of thank you. Virgil smiled and said "you're welcome" while ruffling the kids hair.
Scott took Gordon down to the infirmary to see his brother. The alternative Alan was sprawled out on the bed like an x. Sleeping peacefully. Gordon looked so relieved to see Alan. He was looking much better compared to earlier in the day. Gordon gave him a careful hug and whispered something into Alan's ear.
Scott rolled up another bed beside Alan's, as promised. Gordon climbed on, took a hold of his brother's hand and fell asleep before his head hit the pillow.
"Cute" Scott thought as he put a blanket over Gordon's sleeping body.
"Sleep well" Scott whispered as he turned down the lights, retreating to his own bedroom for some well-earned rest.
