Chapter 12 They Know
(Eliza's POV)
Eliza wakes up the next morning feeling refreshed and ready to get this day started. Which is odd since she doesn't get this excited about school unless it's science. Eliza gets up and grabs her clothes heading to her shower. When she's done, she dries off and brushes her hair doing her signature updo. She gets dressed and heads back to her room after she puts on her socks and shoes, she heads downstairs to get some breakfast.
"Good morning, dear." Margret says pouring herself some juice. "Good morning, mom." Eliza says and grabs a plate getting some food. "You're beaming any reason why?" Margret teases. "Mom!" Eliza exclaims. "What? I can't tease my daughter over her crush?" Margret asks. "I can't stop you, it's just kinda embarrassing." Eliza looks away. "Oh, honey it will only get worse." Margret says. "Great, thanks for the heads up." Eliza playfully rolls her eyes. "You're meeting with Missy isn't until three, so you have some time to come home and change." Margret says. "I'll only have time to grab my ingredients I'm changing after school." Eliza says. "And what about the tree root you don't have one." Margret says. "I do, and the seed and leaf." Eliza says. "How did you get them?" Margret asks. "When I went to the forest yesterday, Wyatt put them in my trunk." Eliza says. "I see, well I'm off to work like I said I'll be home late." Margret says and gets up taking her cup and plate to the sink. "I know." Eliza says. "Alright, I'll see you in the morning dear, and don't let Wyatt stay pasted your curfew." Margret says. "I won't mom I promise." Eliza says getting up and taking her dishes to the sink.
Margret leaves and Eliza heads upstairs to grab her backpack and clothes for later. When she has everything, she needs she leaves and heads to school. When she arrives, she sees Zed waiting in the courtyard. Grabbing her bags, she walks over to him.
"Hey, where's Bree and Addison?" Eliza asks. "They're having their cheer meeting now rather than waiting till after school." Zed says. "Okay, so what's up?" Eliza asks. "We've been friends since we were in diapers why didn't you tell me that you had a crush on some guy?" Zed asks. "How did you find out?" Eliza asks not denying anything. "Don't get mad at Addison or Bree they didn't know I was listening, it happened after that whole incident with Bucky at your mom's ceremony." Zed says. "Wait, you knew for that long and didn't say anything?" Eliza asks shocked. "I knew you were livid like I was, and I thought you would tell me when you're ready." Zed says. "I'm sorry. This is still new to me, and I didn't want you to treat me like Bree and Addison." Eliza says.
"Eliza you're my other little sister I'd tease you, but not to the point of making you uncomfortable. I know how you are." Zed says. "But you've never been afraid to call me out on my shit if screw up." Eliza says. "Yeah true." Zed says. "So, what stopped you from doing it this time?" Eliza asks. "I wanted you to tell me for once." Zed says honestly. "It's difficult to talk about since your no longer where I am now. You're in a real relationship, plus I needed to figure out if this crush was going somewhere or not." Eliza says. "And is it?" Zed asks. "Yeah, I think it is." Eliza says with a smile. "Awesome, I'll meet the guy when you're ready." Zed says giving her a hug. "Thanks Zed." Eliza says. "Yeah, just remember not to get mad and Bree and Addison." Zed says. "I won't or at least I'll try." Eliza says. "That's all I can ask now let's get to class." Zed says and they head inside going in different directions to their classes.

When it's lunchtime Eliza meets her friends at their table.
"Eliza, I swear I didn't know that Zed was listening." Addison says.
"Yeah, were sorry." Bree says.
"Guys it's okay, really he was bound to find out sooner or later." Eliza says.
"Whoa who are you and what have you done with Eliza?" Zed asks.
"What are you taking about?" Eliza asks.
"It's just you never okay with your secrets getting out; and you can get pretty upset." Addison says.
"Not always just sometimes." Bree adds.
"Not, just sometimes. Ow!" Zed says when he gets a punch in the shoulder. "Addison!" Zed whines.
"Thank you, Addison." Eliza says.
"I got your back." Addison says. "So, I'll be coming with you later."
"Is that why we don't have practice later?" Bree asks.
"Man, can I catch a ride with you after school Bree?" Zed asks. Bree nods. "Thanks."
"Okay, well I have to go home to get my ingredients. Also, I don't know how long it will take for the plant to grow or what it will be." Eliza says.
"Huh, well we can talk." Addison says. Eliza nods. The bell rings and they all go their next classes.

When school ends Eliza heads to the bathroom to change and fixes her hair up. She heads home and gathers her ingredients then heads to Mayor Missy's office. When she gets there Addison is there to greet her. She changed out of her cheerleading uniform.
"Hey, my mom's meeting is almost over, come on she said we could wait in the lounge." Addison says and leads her to the lounge area. Eliza is quiet and Addison picks up on it. "Hey are you okay?" Addison asks.
"I'm not if this doesn't work-" Eliza is cut off. "Hey, it will. I promise." Addison says. "But-" Eliza starts again. "Eliza, you are your own worse credit. Please stop overthinking it you got this." Addison says. "Your right I just can't help it sometimes." Eliza says taking breathe. "I know and that's okay, just as long as you don't keep doubting yourself. You're the smartest person I know." Addison says with a smile. "Thanks Addi." Eliza says. "Your welcome E." Addison says.
"Girls Mayor Wells will see you now." Jakylen says. The girls get up and head to the mayor's office.
"Hello girls how was school?" Missy asks. They give their responses and chat for a bit. "So where do you want to do this?" Missy asks.
"There." Eliza points to the ground below them.
"Can I help?" Addison asks. Eliza nods and they both leave the office and go outside to the front of the building Eliza goes and gets the root, leaf and seed from her car. They dig a deep hole given how big the tree root is. And once its big enough Addison holds the root in place as Eliza puts the leaf and seed inside then covers the hole up once its secure and the root is stuck in place, she tells Addison to let go. Eliza takes two of her test tubes and pours them on the dirt then finally her flask and pours to the line Eliza immediately starts her timer. Addison texts her mom to stay in her office since they don't know how long it will take. There's a bench in the shade that the girls sit on while they wait.
"So, what happened last night?" Addisin asks. "What? Bree told you." Eliza says. "Yes, so how did it go?" Addison asks. "My mom likes him, and his mom likes me, so I guess were good." Eliza says. "Did his sister play nice?" Addison asks. "For the most part." Eliza says. "Good. So, did he kiss you again?" Addison asks. Eliza blushes. "He did!" Addison beams.
"Just on the cheek! Jeez why make a big deal out of it?" Eliza asks. "Because you guys are so cute." Addison says. "It's just a kiss on the cheek nothing more." Eliza says. "So, you don't want him to kiss you on the lips?" Addison asks. "No, not yet. I don't think I'm ready." Eliza says honestly. "Well, there's no rush, but if he pressures you don't let him." Addison says. "Oh, I won't trust me." Eliza says. They hear rushing in front of them. The tree is sprouting with yellowish green leaves and yellow pears come with it.
"That was 15 minutes." Eliza says stopping her timer and makes a note to add it to her log book when she gets home.
"Eliza it's beautiful." Missy says from behind them.
"She's right, are they edible?" Addison asks. Eliza plucks a pear and hands it to Addison.
"Try it for yourself." Eliza says. Addison takes a bite out of the pear and smiles.
"Mom, you have to try this it's so sweet!" Addison says handing the fruit to her mom.
"I do love pears. Oh! This is delicious!" Missy says. "Eliza this is good. Your clean-up volunteers only is scheduled for this Saturday and food and drinks will be provided." Missy says.
"Thank you, Mayor Wells." Eliza beams.
"No, thank you dear. I must get back to work Addison I'll see you at home." Missy plucks a few pears and takes them inside.
"Eliza, you did it. I told you that you got this!" Addison says. "Well, thanks for your support." Eliza says and plucks several pears and takes them to her car were see has her clean bin waiting.
"See you tomorrow." Addison says. "Yeah, see you tomorrow. Hey, take some fruit for Bree, Zed and Zoey to try." Eliza says. "I will." Addison says.
Eliza waves to her friend and drives back home.
