Portal Enemy; Portal fight rewritten

I was unsatisfied with the fights in Portal Enemy. Specifically when Hiro was chasing Sirque through the portals. She was using the portal from the first movie. Hiro was following her through the pink minefield with tech he wasn't experienced with. Baymax was RIGHT THERE.

But no angst.

Well, I'm taking us on a trip to Trauma Town for this rewrite.

Hope you enjoy!

"Tough Crowd. No encore for you." The circus-themed thief jumped from her one finger handstand, flipping over the side of the building.

Hiro had no time to think, he left the rest of Big Hero Six and jumped after her.

Sirque threw her magnetic marbles down. They opened a circular portal. She dove in and, with the help of gravity and his new rockets, Hiro followed.

The next thing that Hero knew, he was at falling towards the sidewalk again. He put his hands out to catch himself, and the rockets slowed his impact with the ground.

This wasn't going badly! The portal must've been more stable than the large one Krei made almost a year ago. But if Krei's portal fell apart with a team of scientists working on it, then Hiro doubted one circus girl could make it work long-term.

Sirque was walking away from the portal, seemingly pleased with herself.

"I'm still here!" Hiro called.

Sirque turned, "What?". On seeing the pursuing hero, she ran off.

Hiro followed, using his rockets for extra speed. Even though his flight patterns were a little wonky, Hiro was glad his invention worked.

The next few portal jumps were easy; so quick, Hiro didn't even have to think about being back there. He just needed to focus on chasing the acrobatic lady and with the white unitard and French accent.

But then the color of the portal changed. The usual blue glitched pink as he fell in. Hiro crashed landed into a desk on the other side of the jump. And now there was a cat in his arms. Things were starting to go very wrong.

Sirque ran past the reporter and jumped out the window, and onto a wrecking ball in use. To keep from getting smashed, Sirque made a portal in front of them.

For a moment the scene changed. Like a slow-mo in a movie, things felt slower and more quiet. For about ten feet they were flying, surrounded by giant cotton candy swirls and bright colors. Soon, the wrecking ball's momentum launched them through the white vortex in front of them and and back into the real world.

Sirque didn't land as gracefully this time. She tumbled and rolled on the street. She lifted herself up on her elbows and looked at the portal, "Qu'est que passe?"

"Your portal's unstable." Hiro started.

"Impossible." Sirque jumped away again.

"Hey!" Hiro ran after her once again. If only he could explain how dire the circumstances were. If the portals crash, they'd explode and cause a lot of damage. But even more- someone could get trapped inside again. Like Abigail; like Baymax.

Hiro caught up to Sirque, who was staring at a glitchy pink portal. "I wouldn't go in there if I were you."

"My show must go on." She steeled her nerves and jumped into the portal.

Hiro stared at it, wavering for a second. The portal had turned into a vortex, showing the world it led to and sucking things inside. Like it was when they saved Abigail.

It was almost a year ago, but the fear and uncertainty from the past was just as present today. Though a lot had changed since then, one thing was the same. The last words of Tadashi's life and the anthem of Hiro's.

Someone has to help.

Hiro jumped into the portal.

It felt like he just jumped into a swimming pool, weightless and slow. Hiro opened his eyes and saw the wide expanse in front of him. Pink cotton candy clouds and bits of the old KreiTec building, all floating. It was just as he remembered it; beautiful, and almost peaceful.

Almost

Sirque jumped off a piece of scaffolding and used the momentum to push Hiro. He flew off course as she landed on another piece of floating rubble.

"I will 'elp you leave 'ere if you promise to let me go." Sirque bargained with Hiro.

"But you'll go back to crime." Hiro used his rockets to right himself. "I can't let you do that."

Sirque sighed. "Then I can't let you leave." She jumped to the portal, waving goodbye. "Salut!"

"No! Wait!" Hiro tried to follow her, but the portal closed before he could get to it. He was trapped.

"Oh no."

...

Baymax used his scanner to keep Big Hero 6 (plus Megan) updated as they waited on top of the Noodle Burger restaurant.

"Sirque is in the News Broadcasting Centre; Hiro is following her...They went into a portal. Sirque and Hiro are in the demolition sight nearest here. ."

"Will Hiro be okay?" Megan asked. "With all this portal stuff. And fighting a real villain?"

"I'm sure he'll be fine." Honey Lemon put a hand on Megan's shoulder.

"It's not his first time." Go-Go added.

"Yeah," Fred said between bites of his noodle burger "This is like, an every day thing for us."

"yea, I know." Megan sighed "I'm still nervous for him though."

"Me too Megan. Me too." Wasabi agreed.

Baymax paused. "Sirque is now on the Northernmost port of San Fransokyo"

"What about Hiro?" Megan asked.

Baymax turned his face to her. "My scans suggest that Hiro is still inside the portal." He faced the distance again. "The portal is now closed. Oh no."

"We have to find him" Go Go said, looking out on the city.

...

"Closed- can't- leave. Stuck." Hiro's mind and body were spiraling with panic as he floated through the space of the portal world.

Woooaahh. Calm down Hiro. Breathe. A voice in his head said.

Hiro huffed and puffed. "The portal closed- she's not coming back-"

You'll find another way out.

"How!?"

Use that big brain of yours.

"Right, cuz I know particle physics and how to rip space-time" Hiro said sarcastically.

Look in a different angle!

"How would an angle help- oof" Hiro bumped into something. He turned to see a white and red robot.

"Baymax!"

But Baymax didn't respond. He floated, practically still.

Though there were dents and missing chunks in his armor, Baymax didn't seem damaged. His arm was outstretched, rocket fist gone. It was like he hadn't moved since sending Hiro back to the real world almost a year ago. If Baymax was powered off this whole time, maybe he still had battery charge.

"Baymax, wake up. Power on. Uh- Ow!" Hiro couldn't remember if Tadashi's Baymax had a power button. He just powered on when Hiro gave a sound of pain.

"…But you can't respond to my pain…" Hiro opened Baymax's access port, "-because you don't have the program telling you to take care of me."

Lo and behold. There was only the red combat chip in the access port.

Hiro looked in those lifeless, unblinking camera 'eyes'. He wanted to believe he found someone. Someone to give him hope; some way out of the mess he put himself in. He wanted Baymax, or the real Tadashi or his friends or Aunt Cass or anyone. But he only had himself…

He would have to be enough.

Hiro blinked back tears, took some deep breaths, and cleared his head. "C'mon, Hiro. You've been here before, what do you know?

"Okay, So Abby had been here and was somehow able to survive in hyper sleep. Does that mean I'll be able to survive until Sirque opens the portal again? I'll give it a hard maybe.

"Now, how do we track down Sirque's portal when it appears? No idea. This place is so huge. She could appear anywhere. It's impossible!

Hiro floated towards Baymax again to ground himself. "But I found you in this mess, that's one impossible thing done. I mean, what are the odds of finding you if the portal spots are always changing?"

Hiro looked where Baymax was pointing, the direction of the portal almost a year ago. And the direction Hiro just came from. "Wait"

"What if the portal spots don't change? What if they're the same every time?!"

Hiro now had a plan.

With a short burst, Hiro shot himself in the direction Baymax pointed. Hopefully he'd be close enough to the portal to get out. Whenever it opened next.

...

Sirque hummed to herself as she worked into her garage lab. She changed the magnetic field on a few marbles to see if they would be safer.

Slice! She turned to see glowing green blades cutting into the wall.

The yellow superhero burst through it, getting dust and dry wall everywhere. "Where's Hiro?"

"Want to see your friend, eh?" Sirque threw a few marbles to the side, making a portal. "Go get 'im!"

Go Go charged Sirque, who backflipped onto her desk. "A bientot!" The acrobat flicked a switch and a trapdoor took her away.

The others came in as the dust settled. Go-Go turned to them, "she got away"

"We gotta follow her!" Fred scrambled to the work desk.

"No," Honey Lemon interjected. "Finding Hiro's more important."

They all looked at the portal on the floor. it crackled threateningly.

Now you get to vote on how I end it.

1. Hiro can come back almost immediately* (the 'canon' one)

2. Big Hero 6 has to come and rescue him

3. DA DEPRESSO (Hiro never returns to the real world)

4. DA ANGST (Hiro returns years later*)

(*in San-Fransokyo time)

1- the most likely end to the episode in-show

BH6 uses the portal and it work just fine. Using Baymax's scanner and rockets, Big Hero 6 find Hiro and bring Hiro back.

This can take some extra time if they prioritize stabilizing the portal.

2- Big Hero 6 has to rescue Hiro (about a month)

BH6 decides using this portal would be too dangerous (and/or it's too small for them cuz there's only like 3 marbles)

Sirque goes in hiding using a scan jammer. She stabilizes the portals and is now going on a heist.

BH6 has been heartbroken and trying endlessly to find and/or make a solution to the problem. Either tracking down Sirque or making their portal safe and big enough to use.

Also they told Aunt Cass what happened and the identities of BH6. They're not heartless. They'd eventually tell the grieving mother figure what happened to her nephew.

3. DA DEPRESSO (Hero never returns home)

They used the portal but it exploded. It seriously injured or killed most of BH6. They and/or the public decide it's just too dangerous to try opening the portal again. There are some who want to do it anyway, Callaghan, Aunt Cass, Hiro's love interests, but they can't do it.

Hiro tries to build himself a portal, but he eventually runs out of juice and falls into hyper sleep.

4. DA ANGST (Hero returns years later)

Krei and/or Sirque dismiss warnings and make a stable, usable portal and sell it to the public.

Because it's stable, Hiro doesn't get a chance to leave the portal dimension until some kid who wrecked his portal accidentally winds up making his way there. The kid bumps into hyper-sleeping Hiro and finally gets him out, but years have passed in San Fransokyo.

Hiro finds that BH6 didn't try to get him back, thinking it was too dangerous. Hiro's mad that they didn't even try.

(Extra depresso points: Have an explosion like in 4. Give it a death count and include one of BH6. This'll give whoever's left a traumatic reason not to open the portal again, and give Hiro REAL whiplash. Also age the world and characters up so everyone Hiro knows is way older than him or dead. Bonus points if BH6 isn't a thing anymore.)

(Extra angresso points: No explosion, just people being overly cautious. Have only 2-10 years pass. Give Hiro a replacement (Karmi for instance) and let Hiro return and stew in his jealousy. Have the team level up a bunch more. Make Hiro's knowledge and expertise outdated. Maybe even dock his physical ability for being in floating space for so long. The other BH6 clearly care, but not enough for them to come back for him. Not enough for them to include him. Then make Hiro a Villain. For real this time.)
