Hey everyone, thank you for reading A Second Chance for the Soulless! Originally this duel and the aftermath were going to be part of the prologue but I've decided to make it separate for the sake of brevity, hopefully, you like my OC and his deck.

Speaking of Which, Orion Yew was originally going to be a gardener kind of character who would use Sunvalons but I have never played Sunvalons so I rather just use an archetype I do know how to play, also easier to integrate into gx since Sunvalons are a link archetype.

Anyway, hope you favorite/follow and review!

A Second Chance for the Soulless

Chapter 1: A Duel for a Soul

The two duelists stood across from each other, distancing themselves into a rectangle, the perfect size for a dueling field. On one side stood 'Cammy' and on the other stood Orion.

The two couldn't be any more different in their attitudes and auras, Camula was poised, proper, and collected, while Orion was all over the place, his deck was jumbled, his stance was shaky, and his duel disk wasn't properly fastened.

"Alrighty, Cammy! Are you ready?" Orion asked from afar.

"Of course I am!" Camula replied.

"Get set to get decked!" She with her faux-cheery tone, as she hid her true feelings behind a bright, radiant smile.

'And get set to become a soulless husk! ' The former vampire lady added with venom. The Light has given her a second chance, and this fool will give her a second soul! Victory will be hers, and her people shall rise again!

This wicked thought brought a menacing laugh out of Camula, devilish enough for Orion to notice.

"Uh, Cammy? What's so funny? don't tell me I dropped something again!" Orion exclaimed before looking down.

"Oh, don't worry, Orion! I just get so giddy when I duel!" Camula answered back as innocently as she could, stifling her cackle before it got any more suspicious.

"Then...L-lets get to it then!" Orion exclaimed, trying to sound just as excited.

"DUEL!"

"I'll go first! I'll begin my turn by summoning Vampire Lady! In attack mode!" A cloud of bats suddenly joined the duel, swarming around as if blood were in the air. When they cleared away, a noblewoman took their place, her skin deathly green and her form dressed in a royal purple dress draped in bat wings.

"I will end my turn with two set cards; your move, Orion!" Camula finished as she kipped up one of her legs and gave Orion a playful wink, still keeping up her cheery schoolgirl façade.

'One of my set cards is Sakurestu Armor, and the other is Trap Jammer!' Camula snickered.

"No matter what path this idiot takes, he'll fall right into a trap!' Camula thought deviously as she gleefully anticipated Orion's turn.

"A-Alright...Here we go..." Orion began as he drew a card from the top of his deck, all wobbly and anxious. At first glance at the card, he felt his face light up slightly.

"I can m-make this work; go Danipon in defense mode!" A small, cutesy dust mite appeared in a puff of yellow fluff, billowing with a green blanket like a child playing superhero.

Danipon

Level 2, Earth, Insect, ATK: 600, DEF: 600

"Hopefully you won't attack it because of how cute it is, hehe, I end my turn by playing the spell card; Verdant Sanctuary!" Mushrooms, mossy logs, and messy shrubs began to sprout around the two duelists, enveloping them in a pungent grove.

"Ah! I get it now, you like bugs and stuff, that's why you're good at gathering honey!" Camula snapped her fingers, looking as stupid as her masked pride could muster.

"Yep! Insects are fascinating." Orion replied with a chuckle.

"Dad really got me into it; I'll show you my garden later, but for now...I end my turn!" Orion said, his cheeks flushed a light red.

'You won't be doing that, for you'll be nothing more than a lifeless husk when I'm done with you!' Camula festered with an evil grin. This fool was worse than Camula thought, all he could muster for a first turn was a tiny dust mite and some mossy scenery.

"It is my turn, I draw, and I shall tribute my Vampire Lady to summon Vampire Lord!" The swarm of bats appeared once more, swarming all over the vampire lady like flies to carrion. When the bats left, Vampire Lady was gone, replaced by a similarly-looking vampire baron with the same noble cold blood.

Vampire Lord

"Then, I shall activate my spell card! Monster Reborn! Come back from the grave, Vampire Lady!" The lady of unholy darkness returned in a shining flash of holy light.

"Yes...Yes! You have returned, fulfilling a fate that my people shall fulfill." Camula declared as she brought her hands to the sky as if in a chant. As Camula twirled around in excitement, Orion only watched from afar, unnerved by Camula's overdramatic behavior.

"Cammy's getting really invested in this duel..." He mumbled, unsure of how to react.

"Now! Your end is near, Human! Vampire Lady! Attack that puny dustmite!" The noblewoman of undeath obeyed, and with a quick lunge, the Vampire Lady unleashed a pair of deadly claws before ripping Danipon into pieces.

"Sorry Cammy, but since you activated both my Verdant Sanctuary and my Danipon's effect, I can add two insect-type monsters from my deck to my hand," Orion said as he plucked two cards from his deck and added them to his hand.

Suddenly, buzzing ranged throughout the duel as swarms of insects observed the duel, coming out from the many hiding places of the verdant sanctuary. These spectators were not beautiful butterflies or revered beetles but rather flying pests; dirty flies, noisy cicadas, leeching mosquitoes, and creepy spiders.

Camula felt a chill run down her spine; she hated bugs, but these pests made her uncomfortable. Camula's discomfort was not mutual, however, as she laid eyes on Orion as he, with surprising gentleness, allowed a curious mosquito to land on his finger.

"H-Hey their little guy, you hungry?" Orion offered as he pulled back his sleeve, revealing more of his tan skin.

To Camula's surprise, the mosquito buzzed away without a second thought, seemingly happy to not be met with hostility from the boy.

'Hmph, at the very least, he'll be the perfect blood bank when I'm done with him if he's so willing,' Camula mused with a scoff.

"Oh! S-Sorry Cammy, I got distracted. I'll add Smoke Mosquito and Mosquito force to my hand," Orion finished with a quick apologetic bow.

"Finally! Vampire Lord! Feast on his soul!" Camula demanded. The nobleman obeyed, he wordlessly cupped his claws together to form a crimson sphere before he hurled it at Orion.

Orion's LP: 2000

"And with first blood comes Vampire Lord's effect, I shall declare a card type, and you must send one card from your deck to the graveyard!" Camula then contemplated for a moment before a devious smile grew on her lips.

"I shall pick Monster! Send a card to the graveyard!" A red grasping claw suddenly erupted from the ground and greedily plucked a card from Orion's deck. Before slipping the card into Orion's graveyard, it mockingly waved goodbye after its done its duty.

"You're as good as dead next turn, so make it count!" Camula exclaimed as she began to laugh.

'She's treating this like a death match...' Orion murmured, a little. "So I should give it my all, I draw!" he declared, trying to match Camula's overdramatic energy as he started his turn.

"Mosquito Force! To the field in attack mode!" In a buzzing howl, a grey and red mosquito as big as a toy soldier came down, armored in military gear and wielding a pair of pin-needle swords.

Mosquito Force

"Normally, mosquitos are solitary insects, but once one appears, more are bound to appear; I can add one level-two Insect-type monster from my deck to my hand."Once again, more bugs would gather around Orion as he scoured his deck for a card.

"Have it whichever you like, no bug can match my vampires!" Camula spat back, shooting Orion a scowl.

"Sure, alone, they don't stand a chance, but together? Let's find out, Go! Ninjitsu Art of Mosquito Marching!" A puff of smoke exploded from where Orion stood.

"With this card, I can special summon two level two insects from my hand! Appear! Mosquito Commander and Mosquito Carrier!" With a swipe of his arm, Orion cleared the smoke away, revealing two more monsters by his side, one a metallic mosquito with the wings of a helicopter blade and the other the twin-tailed leader of the Mosquito Force, both the size of toy soldiers.

Mosquito Commander

"Now, I activate Mosquito Commander's effect, by tributing him, he can give a Hallucination Counter to each of your vampires." The Commander quickly flew over to the two vampires and, with a quick throw of its twin needles, opened mosquito bites on the two vampires' necks, a weedy mockery of a vampire's mark.

"And to what does that pertain? A mosquito bite could never hinder a vampire!" Camula challenged with a growl.

"Well, Cammy, some of the worst diseases were transmitted by mosquitoes, such as the mosquito carrier's effect, for each hallucination counter on the field..."Orion snapped his fingers.

Camula curled her brow but then watched in horror as her monsters suddenly slumped over, their strength sapped, and their energy drained.

"Your monsters lose six hundred attack points!" Orion revealed with a smirk.

Vampire Lady's ATK: 1550 - 350

Vampire Lord's ATK: 2000 - 800

"And Mosquito Force buffs my monsters with six hundred attack points!" While Camula's monsters waned, Orion's monsters grew from toy soldiers to true ones.

Mosquito Carrier's ATK: 600 - 1800

Mosquito Force's ATK: 400 - 1600

"I hope this helps, mosquito carrier!" Attack Vampire Lady!" The oversized mosquito lunged at the weakened monster, skewering it and shattering it into pieces.

Camula's LP: 2550

"Mosquito Force, attack Vampire Lord!" Orion's second monster followed its master's command, it charged at the Vampire Lord, pin-needle swords drawn.

"Your dumb luck has just run out! Sakurestu Armor protects my monster!" Camula revealed with a swipe of her hand. Black metal shards erupted from the ground and latched onto the Lord, protecting him like a suit of armor.

"From my hand, Pianissimo!" Orion replied. A glowing aura covered Orion's monster, and as it clashed against the Lord, it merely bounced off of the armor, completely unharmed.

"What?! How!? Your monster is supposed to be destroyed! That's not fair!" Camula growled, stomping on the back of her heel.

"Sorry Cammy, it isn't cheating because Pianissimo makes my monster invulnerable to card effects for the trade-off of turning its attack to one hundred points," Orion explained as his lifepoints decreased.

Orion's LP: 1300

"Fine, just end your turn already so I can destroy you!" Camula demanded angrily.

She has had it with this fool. This fool has been nothing more than a nuisance ever since she met him. She wants a soul, she needs a soul, and it will be her pleasure to reap this fool's soul.

"Of course Cammy! I'll set two cards, turn end!" Orion quickly replied with another apologetic bow.

"Finally! My turn! I draw!" Camula announced as she snatched a card from her deck, her patience running thin.

"Vampire Lord, your noble blood has been tainted by vermin, transcend to your true form!" The undead nobleman took a bow before sinking into the ground.

Mosquito Force's ATK: 1600 - 1000

Mosquito Carrier's ATK: 1800 - 1200

"From the darkest of shadows comes the genesis of all vampire-kind!" Camula chanted. The earth rumbled, the trees shook and the sky darkened.

"Rise! You shall reign! As my people once did! I summon!" The ground split open like a gaping maw, opening a gateway to the underworld.

"Vampire! Genesis!"

A hulking, horned beast of royal purple emerged from the chasm, draped in claw-like wings and possessed with unholy strength.

It proudly towered over Orion and his monsters as they were all basked it its demonic glory.

All it took was Orion's stuttering to ruin the moment.

"W-Wow Cammy, that's quite a monster, but I'm not"

"Shut your mouth already, you fool! And stop calling me that!" Camula snapped.

"I'm tired of you patronizing me!" She shouted.

"I'm not some petulant schoolgirl! I'm CAMULA! A Vampire! The last of my kind!" Camula roared with a stomp of her feet, her cheerful facade shattering like the ground from which Vampire Genesis rose.

"Destroy this fool and reap his soul! Vampire Genesis attack Mosquito Force with Crimson Storm!" Vampire Genesis opened up his maw and bellowed out a buffet of bloody red flames at Orion's monster.

At first Orion didn't respond, he threw his head down and stared at the ground as his field was coveted in flames.

"...I see, so be it," Orion finally said.

He lifted himself back up. Orion's eyes, once filled with doubt and uncertainty, now burned with resolve. Orion straightened his slouching back, rising to full height, and drove a hand through his messy mop of green and black hair, smoothing it into a waning curve.

"Trap! Activate! Waboku!" A shimmering barrier of light shielded Orion and his monsters, protecting them from harm.

"Trap Jammer! I discard Mezuki to negate it!" As soon as Camula stashed the card into the graveyard, the barrier surrounding Orion's field shattered. Orion only smirked as he plucked a card out of his hand.

"Smoke Mosquito! Save your friends!" A cloud of fog appeared, swaying the flames in a gust of wind, turning the wave of fire into a shower of embers. When the smoke cleared, Orion stood his ground, with a dapper-dressed mosquito by his side, guarding his master with a cross of his arms.

"While my monster is destroyed, the damage is halved, and your battle phase ends," Orion explained, his voice now confident and collected.

"And my Verdant Sanctuary allows me to add a Man-Eater Bug to my hand." While recovering from the damage, Orion plucked the card from his deck and added it to his hand.

Orion's LP: 400

"Fine, so be it, it will be your last turn anyway," Camula growled back.

"Before I do my 'last turn', why are you doing this?" Orion asked as he drew a card from his deck. Camula scoffed in reply as she folded her arms.

"I don't need to answer to a fool like you, once I'm done with you I can finally get back what I've lost," As Camula spoke, her words became more soaked in anger.

"What do you mean by lost?" Orion continued to prod.

"Everything! I lost my home because of a village's paranoia! And I lost my soul because of a duel with a foolish student like yourself! I've..." Camula sighed deeply.

"I've been given a second chance, all I need is a soul," she glanced away, an iota of regret perhaps?

"And I'm going to get one." Camula looked back to Orion, her eyes narrowed back into a glare, steeling her resolve.

"Then...You will receive nothing, I'm sorry." Orion declared, his voice solemn, and remorseful.

"Then I will take it from you, and I will finally get my revenge," Camula promised back, clenching her teeth.

"I can understand your anger... But this isn't the way, I will activate Call of the Haunted! Rise! Mosquito Commander!" The Leader of the Mosquitoes returned as it flew from its grave.

"I tribute it again to give your monsters Hallucination counters!" Like before, the mosquito zipped around, flying up around Camula's monsters like a fighter plane before firing its pin-needle swords at their necks.

"Normal summon! Des Mosquito in defense mode!" A troop of spear-wielding mosquitos appeared on the field.

"When it's summoned, it gives itself two counters that increase its attack, but I will not need it, for I'll use the spell card, Counter Cleaner!" A vacuum shaped like a Pot of Greed appeared in the middle of the duel, Its nostrils flared up and it began to inhale with a loud snort, sucking up all counters on the field before it disappeared.

"For every counter I remove, I gain five hundred lifepoints, with six in total, I gain back three thousand lifepoints!"

Orion's LP: 3200

"I set two more cards and end my turn, your move." Orion challenged with a crook of his finger, urging her to give him her all.

"You're finally done with your penultimate turn, time for the final one, I Draw!" Camula promised. As soon as her eyes lay on her new card her jaw dropped, a few moments after, it warped into a devilish laugh.

"Finally! Go! Book of Life! I banish your pesky Danipon to bring back Vampire Lord!" Two souls appeared in the middle of the field, one rose and transformed into the titular nobleman while the other fizzled out, gone like a forgotten memory.

Vampire Lord

Level 6, DARK, Zombie, ATK: 2000, DEF: 1500

"I shall use my Field Spell! Infernalvania!" The sanctuary around the two duelists rotted and withered as a deathly decrepit castle rose from the earth, skies darkened and the howls of insects were replaced by a silent doldrum.

"With it, I can discard one of my vampire bats to destroy all of your monsters!" A grey shroud covered all of Orion's monsters. Screams, wails, and murmurs echoed throughout the cloud before nothing remained, no blood, no bones, just ash, and dust, leaving Orion without any monsters to defend himself.

"Vampire Genesis! Vampire Lord! Attack this fool!" Camula ordered with a laugh, throwing a hand to Orion's way as she smiled ear-to-ear.

"I will not falter, Ichiroku's Ledger Book!" As the two monsters charged, a big book appeared and blocked their path, before they could react grasping claws sprawled out of the pages and dragged them in, transforming them into harmless drawings.

"Your Vampire Lord and Genesis are banished until your end phase, you gain two thousand lifepoints in return."

Camula's LP: 4550

"Why are you just delaying the inevitable!?" Camula questioned, tired of this fool's persistence.

"Stop struggling, and just lose already! Vampire Lady! Attack!" Camula ordered her remaining monster to do just that; the monster did just that, quickly swiping at the defenseless Orion with its claws, forcing the boy to shield himself from further harm.

Orion's LP: 1650

"Part of life is giving your all, that's what my father taught me, and that's why I will not falter," Orion answered back, coolly dusting himself off and steadying his stance.

"Giving to others, being kind even if they give you hatred, is part of life, it's what my father refers as," With a deep breath, Orion slowly raised a pair of fingers to the sky.

Camula looked away for a moment, "You're a fool, nothing more! I end my turn!" She declared as her monsters returned to their original forms.

"The providence to the heart, and this is why...I will win! I draw!" Orion swung his hand into the air, drawing a card as he did so.

"I banish my Mosquito Force, Carrier, and Commando from my graveyard!" The three mosquito fighters sprouted from the earth as fleeting spirits, offering themselves one last time for the sake of victory.

"From my hand! The armored emperor of all insects! From the highest of monarchs to the lowest of maggots! I summon!" Orion pressed two fingers on the ground before bringing them up in the air.

"Tree Crown Armorperor Beagram!" The three mosquito spirits joined together, forming a swirling vortex from which the Armorperor flew down from.

A chorus of buzzing echoed throughout the entire battlefield as clouds of locusts followed their king. With every step of the king's four sickle-like legs, the earth rumbled and the trees shook. In the king's hands was a massive sword inscribed with three glowing emeralds, representing the three insects that gave their lives to summon him.

In the king's hands was a massive sword inscribed with three glowing emeralds, representing the three insects that gave their lives to summon him.

"That's it? A mere beatstick!?" Camula laughed, unimpressed.

"Do you remember the card you made me send to the graveyard? It was not a monster, but rather an upgrade for the Armorperor! Bio Insect Armor!" Bits and pieces of metal suddenly rained down from the swirling vortex, pelting the field with metallic hail.

These pieces latched onto Beagram, forming an armor of green. Its shoulder pads, cuirass, and claws were all made of thorax chitin. On the back of this mantis cuirass is a cannon, its long barrel gleaming with energy.

"Wait...That means..." Camula's eyes slowly locked on to her weakest monster, a vampiric noblewoman with her arms wide in an aggressive stance, as if begging for a powerful attack to come their way.

"Tree Crown Armorperor Beagram! Strike Vampire Lady! Armor-Shattering Blow!" With two claws, the greatsword was brought high to the sky before it was brought down in a mighty strike, splitting both the monster and the earth in two.

Camula shielded herself from a wave of dust, clenching her teeth and closing one of her eyes in a wince. "T-This means nothing, Once it's my turn, all I have to do is discard one card, and you're finished!" Camula defiantly stood her ground.

"You won't get a turn, Spell Card! Cocoon of Ultra Evolution!" Orion's monster suddenly hunkered down as a golden sheen of silk covered the creature's form.

"What dust becomes new life! Reborn Anew!" The Cocoon hatched, releasing the new monster from within.

"Perfectly! Ultimate! Great Moth!"

Moth wings sprouted out of the cocoon, dripping with yellow ichor. With a single flap of its wings, the monster escaped from its silken cage, revealing an amber-horned moth of tremendous size, corrosive scales, and deadly fangs.

Winner: Orion Yew!

The pieces rained down on a shocked Camula as her lifepoints dwindled to zero.

She lost, again.

She failed her people, again.

She failed her second chance.

The holograms and special effects cleared away, giving way to the afternoon sun.

Camula dropped to her knees and slowly dipped her head down, too defeated to glare, fester, or rage.

She closed her eyes, hoping that the Light that revived her would take her now.

Yet there she remained, pitifully on the ground, like the pathetic human she is now.

"C-Cammy?" She heard Orion's calm, strong voice shrink back into an awkward stilt.

Camula looked up to see Orion back to his original meek self; voice shaky, his fingers twiddling, and his hair all messy.

"Was e-everything you said...true?" He tried to confirm. Camula was ready to give a boy a slap for his foolishness but her fatigue only made her scoff in irritation.

"All of it...I am a former vampire who dueled you for your soul, I lost mine when I dueled a boy by the name of Jaden Yuki..." Camula glanced to the side as a dark thought brewed in her mind, perhaps she could salvage this disaster.

"I was on a noble quest to revive my people, but Jaden and his friends showed no sympathy, so they sent me to my doom." She explained, as half true as it was.

While her quest was indeed noble, she almost killed two people in doing so. Camula made sure to avoid telling Orion this fact.

"Now I am a desperate husk of a human who tricked a kind person like you so I can get a soul and become what I once was," Camula whimpered sadly, telling Orion half the truth.

This gullible boy could easily become a loyal minion to her; unwittingly or not, this sob story that she made up of half-truths and lies should make him obediently bow before her.

"No, I'm not a husk of a human; I'm a husk of a monster," Camula cupped her hands to her face, attempting to conceal the crocodile tears she was about to shed.

"Do what you want of me, send me to the school authority, toss me into prison; throw away the key; I deserve all of that and more!" Camula insisted as she uncovered her face, showing off her puffy eyes that were reddened by forced tears.

Orion slowly lowered himself to Camula with a kneel. Orion, despite his self-doubt, shined a warm smile that Camula's new human heart couldn't understand.

"Camula...I will help you, but with no soul-snatching h-hehe," He said with a forced chuckle, trying to lighten the situation. Camula blinked several times, dumbfounded by Orion's supportive response.

"But...Why?" Camula asked, half in feigned ignorance, half in genuine confusion. Once again, the boy has fallen for her lies, and once again he's being so kind.

Why is this fool so...Forgiving?

Moments ago, she just tried to take his soul, now he's offering to help her as if the whole thing hadn't happened.

Camula had never experienced this...kindness.

Camula felt something flutter in her chest, she felt her face flare with an unknown sensation, and she felt her eyes needlessly linger on Orion's nervous but warm smile.

"I-I'm not good at most stuff, b-but my dad always told me to help others, it's the road to the heart or something," Orion tried to recite with a shrug.

"And h-hey, you're like the first person who didn't call me a freak when I wear my cool bug-catcher stuff," He said with a light chuckle. Despite his laugh, Camula could sense the hurt he felt from such a fact.

Camula stuck her hand out but as soon as her fingertips brushed against his she hesitated, believing that Orion was going to hurt her. Hurt her for all her lies, all her machinations, all her insults.

Yet there was no anger, just a welcoming warmth when her cold hand nervously took his.

…Perhaps Orion is the second chance she's been looking for. Perhaps she can truly gain her soul back without stealing it from others.

'No more lies, no more deceit.' Camula promised herself.

Camula will trust Orion to find a soul, without the 'soul-snatching' as he described.

With firm gentleness, Orion helped Camula to her feet.

"G-guess I'm your secret keeper now...Don't worry! I'm pretty good at keeping secrets!" Orion claimed confidently.

"Didn't you just say that you're not good at most things?" Camula pointed out.

"Um w-well, I can certainly try to keep the fact that you're secretly a vampire-well a former vampire and you need a soul..." Orion blushed and then instinctively bowed an apology. Like before, his bug mask dropped to the ground from his incessant bowing. As Orion picked it up, his duel disk would slip off of his wrist, dislodging his deck from its slot and making the cards spill everywhere.

Camula tiredly stared down at Orion as he scrambled for his cards.

'He's such a fool...Such a kind-hearted fool...' she lamented as she pressed a palm against her face.

With a reluctant sigh, Camula kneeled down to help.
