Hello again everyone! In my pursuit to try to update more and find ways to change the story form the original, I have decided to try a new idea I had for something that is very important to the games that also gets looked over very often.
The Ansem Reports.
As some may recall I did have the Ansem Reports mentioned during the teams visit in Traverse Town. But I have not been able to think of a way for them to naturally appear in the story with Lincoln and the gang. Since I took out chests and haven't been giving rewards for beating bosses, I kind of wrote myself into a corner with some smaller plot points like the reports.
Thankfully I have one saving grace. Lynn, Clyde, and Lola. With them staying at the castle, where many of the reports are found anyways, I finally have a way for them (The Reports) to be somewhat important to the plot.
I also want to do more Chapters with these three so it's a win-win scenario.
Clyde: I wasn't expecting another chapter for us so soon.
"I wasn't originally planning on it but I figured I could make this chapter while working on other stories since it will be shorter than most."
Lola: Why do we always get the short chapters?
"I have to keep some of what is going on with you guys a mystery. Plus, sometimes the shorter chapters or stories I write usually seem to be much better since they aren't dragged out.
Lynn: So…can we talk about what I'm about to do? In the next chapter that is."
"Nope! No spoilers. You are to remain silent.
Lynn: But-
"Nope! On to the show!"
(P.S. I will be updating a couple other things along with this chapter. One being a new Loud House Story, and the other being a completely new story for a completely new fandom. Please go check them out.
Edit: So turns out interactive stories like Choose your own adventure are not allowed on . I honestly forgot this cause I never thought I would write one before. So if you want to see my new Loud House story please go over to A03. I'm under the same username.)
Chapter 17: The Secret Reports
Today was a slow day for Clyde and Lola. Lynn was taken to get some extra training for some strange reason. The two did not really question it. They were pretty sure that if any of them would get to go look for their friends and family soon it would be Lynn. After yesterday's training, she was clearly gaining the strength needed.
Clyde and Lola were just sitting in their room not sure what to do. They have spent some time training themselves, especially in the magic department. Lola has already started using fire and ice and is trying to get thunder down. Clyde has actually gotten fire and gravity magic. Something about magic fitting with the style of the user. Since he his more defensive, Clyde uses fire differently than Lynn and Lola and gravity comes more naturally to him. On the flip side, Lola is more quick and aggressive hence the spells she is practicing. Lynn is more or less the same as Lola.
After training for a couple hours they went to go eat which was quieter than usual. With Lynn being busy this is the first time the two have really been by themselves. And they weren't sure what to do now.
"Welp. This is the most bored I have been since getting here." Lola commented laying on her bed.
"You said it. I never realized how quiet it could be without Lynn." Clyde joked.
"She really takes the whole 'Loud and Proud' thing very seriously." After a beat of silence Lola asked Clyde a question. "So, do you want to do anything? Maybe go spar?"
"I think we've done enough training today. We have to take breaks regularly other wise we will tire ourselves out. Especially you Lola."
"So, what do you think we should do then?"
After a moment Clyde thought of something. "Now that I think of it, we haven't really look through the library. We looked around when exploring the castle, but we haven't looked at any of the books."
"Uhhh…Any other ideas?" Lola asked.
"I can't think of anything. Come on Lola, it can't be that bad."
"You go without me. I'd rather stay here."
"Dang Lola, I didn't think you didn't like books that much."
"So what if I do?" Lola asked sounding very offended. She crossed her arms and looked away as if making a point.
"Lola what's wrong." Clyde asked. He could tell by Lola's hesitation that something is wrong.
"Nothing! I just don't like books. Besides I doubt there are any books for my age in there."
"We won't know until we look. Come on Lola, even if you don't read anything you can at least be walking around for a little bit." Clyde tried to encourage. There was clearly something else going on, but he was hoping Lola would tell him willingly. Maybe Lynn will know?
Lola hesitated for a moment seeming to decide if she should go or not. On one hand she knew going to the library for herself would be pointless. On the other she did not want to be by herself. "Okay fine I'll join you. But I'm not reading anything."
"If that's what you want." Clyde nodded as the two made their way to the library entrance. Their room is connected to the library as said library is actually how they get to the foyer/main hall. For some reason they haven't really looked through it before since they don't have to go through it very often. Lynn just isn't a book person and there has been so much going on since they arrived here none of them have really thought about it.
The library also seemed to act as some kind of maze with shelves almost touching the ceiling and they were pretty sure some of them were secret doors. A library like this had to have secret doors. Walking through the small, almost office like space they entered the main library room. The bottom floor almost had too many books to count alone but there was also a second, much smaller floor. At the end of the second floor there is a wooden door that leads to the second floor/balcony to the entrance hall.
There was also a table to read at under the stairs that seemed to have a blanket or some kind of cloth hanging just behind it. There is also a table next to a lone shelf on the second floor. "Okay I'm going to look around. If you really don't want to look for any books you can go sit at one of tables."
"Fine with me." Lola said trying to sound like she doesn't care. 'Trying' being the key word. Lola walked over the table and sat down laying her head as if she was going to sleep. She looked down at the small cloth wondering what could be behind it.
Clyde went to the second floor first since it was smaller. There wasn't much to look at except for the shelf next to the table. It seemed to have books that were…blueprints? Layouts? And not just of the castle he was currently standing in but of a town as well. He took a few quick glances at the ones of the town layout, curious what this world may have looked like. "Aku mentioned that the Heartless and the Darkness severally damaged this world, and have destroyed countless others, but this place used to be a whole city?" Clyde thought out loud. "How strong are the Heartless? Where do they come from?" His thought process went all over the place thinking how this world almost ended up like his own. Where would they have ended up if it was? Clyde shook his head not wanting to go down that path. He closed the book and put it back on the shelf going back down the stairs.
Clyde then started to look around the first floor. The books went through alphabetical order of the author and of course organized by genre. Most of the books seemed to be about science, history, and even a few philosophy books. Of course, many of them were out of reach for the short boy and there didn't seem to be a ladder anywhere in sight. He walked into a dead end looking at all of the books surrounding him on three sides. He was about to go the other way when he noticed that there was one book missing from some kind of series. They were all thick red books and it looked like the third one was missing. He looked around backtracking trying to see if he could find the missing book. If just to cure his curiosity of where it was. He found the missing book rather quickly not far from the table Lola was sitting at. She was still sitting in the same spot as before but seemed to be thinking of something.
He took the book back to the shelf and placed it in. Not really expecting anything to happen he turned around to go look at more of the library when all of sudden the shelf started moving! Clyde jumped back as the shelf moved into the wall revealing more bookshelves and another dead end.
'I knew it!' Clyde thought. He knew there was at least one secret door. Maybe it's because he's watched too many mystery/horror movies but can't argue with results. Clyde stepped forward now that he had calmed down and looked to see why this section may have been cut off.
Unlike the other shelves these ones seemed to have several books of someone's own research and reports. More than one person actually. One that caught his eye was labeled as 'Ansem Reports: Heartless Studies.' There were more like journal entries but still very interesting.
"Someone tried to study the Heartless?" Clyde asked out loud. That could be interesting. "Aside from being told they are formed from Darkness; we don't know much about them." Clyde continued. Some of the other studies looked interesting as well. Others included 'Studies of The Heart' or 'Those Void of Darkness.' These were done by someone called 'Even.' Deciding to look at the rest later, Clyde picked up the ones labeled as the 'Ansem Reports.'
When he got back to the table, Clyde saw Lola had pulled back the cloth that was hanging behind the table. He was shocked to see what it was. There were a couple stacks of books but unlike the rest in the library these were all children's books. There were also two bean bag chairs also made for child size. Lola was staring at what she had discovered not sure what to think of it.
"I told you there would be some kids books." Clyde teased.
"Yay." Lola replied sarcastically.
Deciding to ignore her reply Clyde sat down on the other end of the table. "I know you aren't too big of a bookworm Lola, but this is better than nothing right?" He coaxed.
"…I guess you're right." Lola said giving a look of defeat. Before Clyde could ask anything, Lola spoke again. "What did you find?"
"I found these research journals. According to the titles they're studies about the Heartless."
"Wow. Someone was able to actually study those things?"
"I guess. I'm going to read and find out. Let me know if you need anything." Clyde said as he picked up the first one. Lola apparently decided actually to look at the children's books she found as see if any had some good pictures.
Clyde opened the first journal entry not sure what to expect. It seemed to act as an introduction of some sort.
Report 0
'Much of my life has been dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. That knowledge has guarded this world well. Not a soul doubts that.'
'So this gut knew about other worlds?' Clyde thought as he kept reading.
'I am blessed with my people's smiles and respect. But though I am called a sage, there are things I do not understand. I believe darkness sleeps in every heart, no matter how pure. Given the chance, the smallest drop can spread and swallow the heart. I have witnessed it many times.'
'Darkness is in every heart? I mean I guess that makes since. I don't think I fully understand this but he's basically saying that no one is pure…light then? Purely good? And what does witness it several times mean?' Clyde continued.
'Darkness…Darkness of the heart. How is it Born? How does it come to affect us so? As ruler of this world, I must find the answers. I must find them before the world is lost to those taken by the darkness.'
'Okay that was a lot to take in. To those taken to the darkness? I'm more confused than before. But I don't like where this is going. This guy was apparently a leader of the world. Was it this one?' Clyde thought. Since it was so short, he picked up the next one and glanced at Lola who has picked up a book now but seemed to be just staring at the first page. Clyde thought about asking if everything was okay but figured it would be best to leave Lola alone for the moment.
Report 1
'It is my duty to expose what this darkness really is. I shall conduct the following experiments:…'
'Experiments? What kind of experiments?' Clyde thought. How does someone experiment with something like the Heartless and the Darkness. Also, did the handwriting look different.
'Extract the darkness from a person's heart. Cultivate darkness in a pure heart. Both suppress and amplify the darkness within.'
'He experimented on people?! Taking darkness out of a person and cultivating in a pure one? Wait, didn't the last entry say no heart is pure? This is so confusing. Should I even be reading this?' Despite his doubts Clyde continued curious how these 'experiments' turned out.
'The experiments caused the test subjects' hearts to collapse, including those of the most stalwart. How fragile our hearts are! My treatments produced no signs of recovery.'
'Okay, clearly there are some big-time gaps here. Even in individual reports. And he basically studied on people most likely against their will, and none survived. Wait, it said that there were tests to suppress the darkness instead of amplifying. Did those have the same results?' Clyde continued feeling that there had to be an answer somewhere.
'I confined those who had completely lost their hearts beneath the castle. Some time later, I went below and was greeted by the strangest sight. Creatures that seemed born of darkness.'
'So he is talking about this world? He mentions a castle. And he used to be the ruler of it. That fits with the map of the town I found. And what creatures? The Heartless maybe? The reports do say that the Heartless are the main subject based on the title. Wait, this implies he found heartless where…'
'What are they? Are they truly sentient beings? Could they be the shadows of those who lost their hearts in my experiments?'
'That…that can't be! Aku said that Heartless are born from the darkness. He didn't say anything about them being…living people.' Clyde was internally panicking and most likely sweating from nervousness. 'Maybe the next one will clear things up. Although I'll probably stop there.'
Report 2
'The shadows that crawl beneath the castle…Are they the people who lost their hearts, or incarnations of darkness? Or something entirely beyond imagination? All my knowledge provided no answer.'
'So he doesn't know for sure.' Clyde thought almost hoping there would not be an answer.
'One thing I am sure of is that they are entirely devoid of emotion. Perhaps further study will unlock the mysteries of the heart.'
'He studied the creatures himself?! Assuming they are Heartless, which seems more and more likely, how? Don't they attack anyone and anything living? And how did he get so many?'
'Fortunately, there is no shortage of test samples. They are multiplying underground even as I write this report.'
'So he made an environment that attracted the creatures. How did he keep them from leaving the underground of the castle?'
'They still need a name. Those who lack hearts…I will call them Heartless.'
'So they were the Heartless. And from the sound of it mostly just shadows. But why did he keep attracting them?' Clyde looked at the rest of the reports, including the ones he read there were 13 in all. The first one being an intro was labeled as zero. But something seemed off. Looking at the first report compared to the other two, at fist glance they seemed to be written by the same person. But the handwriting changed after the first report. (Report zero.) On report zero it was more neat and small.. In the others its more bold and thicker.
"What are you reading Clyde?" Clyde jumped out of his seat heart pounding. He was so caught up in these reports that he forgot Lola was still with him!
"Oh nothing important!" Clyde lied. He didn't need Lola reading these. She most likely wouldn't understand what they were about anyways, but he didn't like where they were going. Human and Heartless experimentations? There was no way that ended well.
"Oh really? Then what are they about?" Lola asked.
"There just some weird reports someone made about…experiments! You probably wouldn't care." Clyde remained as vague as possible. He looked at the book Lola had picked out and saw that she was only on the third or fourth page. 'I was reading for a while. Even if Lola was a slow reader, she still should have been able to finish that book.'
"What about your book?" Clyde asked curious.
"Oh….um, it's about…traveling?" Lola said but it sounded more like a question.
"Lola…you can tell me if something is bothering you." Clyde tried to reason with her. With how defensive she was getting he didn't think she would give anything away, but he had to try.
"…I-" Lola started but she mumbled too much.
"What was that?" Clyde asked walking closer to her.
Lola sighed before trying again. "I said,-." But she mumbled again.
"Lola you know you don't have to tell me but I want to help you."
"I SAID I CAN'T READ!" She yelled. There was a beat of silence the library feeling quieter than before.
Clyde took a moment to process what Lola just reveled making sure he heard her right. "Well, you are only six Lola. Your still in the yearly stages of learning to read."
"No that's not the problem. I literally can't read. I can never sound out the right letters and too many letters get it all jumbled up!" The more Lola spoke the more high pitched her voice became getting more upset.
Without another word Clyde quickly took Lola into a hug to help calm her down. "Shhhhh. It's okay Lola. It's okay." Lola quickly hugged him back too embarrassed to do anything else. "Did anyone else now about this?" Clyde asked.
"Lana kind of knew. I had to have her help me with reading assignments a lot. I would make deals with her so she wouldn't question it. Lincoln found out when the whole family tried to do this reading competition. He tried to teach me so I could read the book I picked out, but he realized it was more serious than we both thought. We had to tell mom and dad who took me to the doctor. I thought I was just a slow learner, but they said I have some kind of reading disability. It was d-dy…" Lola stopped trying to remember the word.
"Dyslexia?" Clyde asked. He knew a little bit about the disorder. Enough to know it was what Lola just described.
"Yeah, that's it." Lola confirmed. "I had been taking special tutoring to help with it, but I still can't read much on my own. Obviously, it hasn't been the biggest thing on my mind recently."
"I can't really blame you there. But just so you know you don't have to feel embarred or ashamed telling me and Lynn these things. We want to help you."
"I know. I-I just don't like talking about it. Before you the only ones that knew were Lincoln, mom, and dad. Lana didn't even know the full story." Clyde nodded in understanding knowing that just admitting these things can be very difficult. He looked over at all the books that were hidden behind the cloth and got an idea.
"Well, what if you say we continue your tutoring?" Clyde asked. He picked Lola up from his lap and sat her on top of the table.
"What do you mean?" Said six-year-old asked.
"I mean why don't I, and maybe Lynn, try to teach you? We have plenty of books. True we aren't experts, but it would be better than nothing right? At the very least it gives us something else to do." Clyde smiled looking through the books. He was trying to see of there was any that would be easier than others to start with. All the books looked to be about for four-to-six-year old's anyway. So hopefully they wouldn't be too hard.
"I don't know Clyde. It isn't the same as teaching other kids…I think."
"Well yes and no. I don't know a lot about dyslexia, but I think I remember seeing somewhere the best way to help you is repetition. Read the same books, go over the individual sounds of letters, and stuff like that. It sort of like teaching other kids but just takes a little longer. And of course, it helps if we could find a way that suits you. Having you learn words you use every day when talking for example."
"How do you know so much?" Lola asked.
"Well like I said I don't know too much, but I think I found a book on it once back home and read it cause I was bored."
"The things you do when bored are weird Clyde." Lola chuckled. "But they do seem to be helpful. I guess we can give the teaching thing a try."
"Awesome. Actually, now that I think about it maybe I can find a book about here? Surely, we weren't the only world that had people with dyslexia."
"Even if they did it may be called something completely different."
"Good point. Well in that case if we happen to come across one then that will help. For now, why don't we try to think of ways to help you learn. You said that you had been taking tutoring? What did your teacher use?"
"Hmmm. Well, whenever we went over any word, she made sure to have it written on the board. We went over letter sounds a lot, and even used flashcards to practice the alphabet in and out of order. But I wasn't in that class for very long before summer started."
As she spoke Clyde happened to find a small paper pad that still had most of it's paper left along with some pencils. They looked like they were made for kids around Lola's age, who knows how long they have been here.
Now that he thinks about it…why is all this stuff here? Sure, children's books in a library is not uncommon, but they seem out of place for this one. They were hidden too, and all these other things that were clearly for kids, was there someone here before the three of them? How long ago? Did Aku do something to them? First the map of the former town, then the reports and now this…'What happened to this world?' Clyde thought. It was clear Aku was not telling them everything. Clyde even found reports from the supposed 'ruler' of the world before it was attacked by the Darkness. Which left one big question left.
'How did Aku manage to save the castle? Why is he the only survivor?' He thought. He was so lost in thought that Lola had started poking him with the pencil he gave her to get his attention.
"W-what?" Clyde asked realizing he was lost in thought.
"You okay Clyde? You seemed out of it." Lola asked.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking about some stuff. Nothing to worry about." He reassured. Lola looked at him suspiciously not sure to believe.
"Seriously Lola I'm fine. Just trying to think of some lesson plans." He said changing the subject.
"Oh. Okay. Let me now if you need help." She smiled. "And thank you Clydesdale."
"You're welcome your highness." Clyde smirked which made Lola start to laugh a little.
'I think this the first time I have seen her genuinely happy since we got here." He thought. Sure, there was the dinner moments, but this seemed different. It wasn't about magic, or training, or even a story from home, it was from what was happening right now in the present. Too bad Lynn missed out on all of this.
'Speaking of which, shouldn't she be back soo-' Clyde's thought was cutoff as the door that was the entrance to their bedroom suddenly slammed open!
Lola and Clyde both looked up summoning their keyblades just in case. Clyde instinctively making sure he was in front of Lola. Both kids quickly put their guard down however when they saw who just walked into the room.
"Lynn your back!" Lola exclaimed. Running to her sister.
"Hey guys." Said girl replied, catching Lola. The two gave a quick hug but didn't last long as Lola and Clyde bother realized something seemed…off.
No matter how much she tried to hide it Lynn sounded tired. And not the 'I've been training all day' kind of tired. Or if it was training then it was really hard. Lynn looked like she was about to fall leaning against a bookshelf for support. How she caught Lola even she wasn't sure. Her hair was a complete mess, her hair tie missing all together (making this one of the first times Clyde has seen her hair down), some of her clothes were ripped mostly her shorts and some of her jersey. She also had some bruises and scratched around her arms. And were those…thorns stuck on some of her clothes? Was there an area that even had plants in this castle?
"Wow Lynn what happened to you?" Clyde asked very concerned.
"N-nothing! Training was just really intense. I had to fight a bunch of Heartless by myself and see how long I could last." She looked herself over knowing how bad it looked.
"You pushed yourself too far, didn't you?" Lola asked. But it sounded more matter of fact.
"Yeah, I'll admit I went way longer than I should have. I was also practicing magic in between fighting matches. Finally got a few spells down."
"That's…good." Clyde said not sure what else to say. He leaned down and picked out one of the thorns stuck on her hoodie. Apparently, it was longer than he thought it was cause Lynn actually flinched when he pulled it.
"Sorry. Where did this come from?" Clyde asked showing her one of the many thorns stuck on her.
At first Lynn said nothing staring at the thorn in almost the same confusion as Clyde and Lola. Suddenly she felt a headache come to her as images flashed through her head. Giant thorn plants, blond hair mixed with a green hoodie, a keyblade she had never seen before, and someone with sunglasses. She had no idea what any of this meant but as each image flashed her head hurt more and more. Right before fainting she thought she herd a voice.
"Why are you doing this?!"
Despite the voice yelling it was barely above a whisper and Lynn didn't recognize it because of it. But it sounded familiar.
"Lynn!" Clyde exclaimed catching her before she hit the ground. "Lola go get some water and meet me in the bedroom!"
Without another word Clyde picked Lynn up carrying her across his arms. Lola did as she was told focusing on the task at hand to help her sister.
Clyde placed Lynn down on her bed quickly pulling out any thorns so she wouldn't feel any discomfort. His mind was racing as to why Lynn would faint so suddenly. She seemed more or less fine. Worn out? Yes. But not to the point of fainting!
Lola came in with a bowl of water and a towel that Clyde used to clean up any small wounds or scraps. Thankfully she didn't seem to have any major injuries.
"What caused her to pass out? Is she okay?" Lola asked fearfully.
Clyde looked at Lola seeing fear where just moments ago there was happiness and hope. He looked at Lynn to make sure she was breathing normally. This didn't seem to be from a concussion but rather from just pure exhaustion. She needed the rest.
"…I think she's just tired from training. She's clearly exhausted but will be okay. She can explain more when she wakes up okay." Clyde reassured Lola. He had no idea what else he could say. And even if he did what should he tell her?
He knows given the situation he can't protect Lola forever or from everything. But for crying out loud she is only six! There is only so much she can take.
'I hope this doesn't happen again. If something happens to Lynn…or to me, I don't know how Lola would react.' Clyde thought.
Lola nodded not able to say anything. She jumped up to the bed with Lynn to give both her sister and herself some comfort. Clyde put a blanket over the two of them to let them get some rest.
"We can try to start your lessons tomorrow if you want." Clyde offered. Lola just nodded to confirm that she heard him clinging close to her sister.
Clyde didn't completely understand what was going on with Lynn. Cleary something was wrong. But he knew one thing for certain.
'I need to talk to Aku." Clyde thought to himself so Lola wouldn't hear him. He walked out the room without another word.
And done. I think this chapter turned out fairly well. Now to explain a few things.
Yes I know bringing up the Lola having dyslexia seemed to come from nowhere. I brought for a couple reasons. If you remember there was an episode where it was implied that Lola would actually have dyslexia, it was the competition episode that I mentioned in the story, but by the end Lincoln was somehow able to teach Lola how to read through an entire book. One that looked like a kid's novel no less. So I thought it would be cool to make a sort of AU of where what if she did actually have dyslexia like the show implied. As someone that is going into teaching it is a good way for me to research as well. There will be some plot relevant stuff with Clyde teaching Lola later down the road, but this mainly to give them something else to do and able to bond more.
The Ansem Reports. Obviously, I wasn't going to have Clyde read them all at once. That would be way too much at once. So, I thought it be better to have them split up. There will be four parts with him reading three in each except for the last one which will be four. Since there are thirteen reports. There is a reason I marked the first one as zero. But that isn't important right now. Just now it is to help with continuity in future stories.
What happened to Lynn? You'll have to find out in the next chapter.
Okay. I think that settles that. Now how about we look at the reviews for the last chapter. Who is today's special guest?
Leni: Hi writer person!
"Hey Leni. Ready to look at the revies?"
"Like, totally!"
Guest: You are correct. I figured I made that pretty obvious. I honestly didn't even think of Leni and Jazz being similar until I started writing this chapter. I just knew Leni had to be one of the first siblings to be found for….reasons. As for returning to other worlds. While a good idea I'm not sure for this story. It is already going to be long without returning to previous worlds. As for the Dani comment, I would love to have her in it, but I think I'll have to skip on that. She would be cool, but I wouldn't be sure how to add her in except for just having her pop up. Which would feel a little forced for the last chapter of this world.
RonaldM40196867: Being a Loud is definitely not easy. It takes a lot of patients. The Heartless will definitely get tougher. Like the game, they get stronger with each knew world they go to. But so do our heroes. As for the most cunning Nick toon character…I don't know. Probably Danny.
Gamelover41592: Thank you. Reads reaction to the end of the last chapter. *Whistles in the distance* Yes you read that right.
Monkey D. Conan: Thank you. As for if Lincoln will see…. well let's just someone is going to be very heartbroken soon. Not saying who though. I hope you like these chapters as well.
HEROS Central: Yep. One Loud down. Counting Lily and Lana that makes eight seven more to go.
Gundamvid: Yeah. I thought Danny Phantom would be a good fit in this story. *Reads rest of comment* whistles in the distance. I don't know what you are talking about. :)
Shogun lord poke burst: Okay so I'm going to explain this as best as I can cause most of the lines the villains say are straight out of a scene from the actual game just tweaked to fit their character more and this is my interoperation of the scene. So when this villain says "Such is the power of the keyblade. That boy's and the girl's strength is not their own." She is not saying that the keyblades are not their own but rather the power that the keyblades give them is not theirs. Before gaining the keyblades Lincoln and Lana could not do many things they can do now, magic being the biggest one. The keyblade gives it users a lot of their power right off the bat. (Although they can still do some things without it, they are nowhere near as powerful.) Magic of course still must be learned, but it makes it easier to access said magic power, and they naturally strengthen the wielder in strength, agility, and speed. Like magic however, fighting styles must also be practiced. So eventually with enough training they can make their newfound strength and magic their own, but as it stands the keyblades are what gave them that power. Take them away and Lincoln and Lana would have just been two more kids that lost their home with nowhere to go. And since they are also still new wielders, they are still very much learning about the keyblades and all their capabilities. Also everything these villains now about the keyblades Aku has told them...so how they think it works could be very different from what actually happens. I hope this makes since.
And side note yes, they keyblades are tailor made for them. Each user's first keyblade/base keyblade usually references something about themselves whether it is appearance, personality, or even their fighting style. Or even if they are on the light or dark side.
