They didn't always go over to Europe as a team. Garrison would occasionally leave one of them behind if their particular skills weren't needed or if they'd been injured and he didn't feel they were up to another mission yet. He went on his own too. If they found out about one of those solo missions ahead of time there was usually an argument. It didn't do any good though because 'orders were orders'.

A lot of the time they didn't know what was up until it was all over. The Warden would go into headquarters for a meeting and just not come back. Whenever that happened they always had the same conversation; what would happen to them if he never came back? It's not that they didn't care about him, they did, but they were realists. Even with their mission record there weren't too many officers willing to work with them, and there were very few officers they were willing to work with, and there was no way the military was going to let them operate on their own. If something happened to Garrison they all knew they were headed straight back to prison.

The resistance managed to get him to the beach and load him on the boat that took him out to the sub. The sub managed to get him back to the docks in England. An ambulance took him from the docks to the local hospital. The hospital notified HQ and, finally, after several hours, someone thought to put a call through to the mansion.

Someone from the intelligence division they worked in was at the hospital when they arrived. The resistance hadn't sent along any kind of report. They didn't know what had happened. They didn't know if Garrison had completed the mission they sent him out on. The man was standing at the desk demanding Garrison be transferred to the hospital in London. The doctor on the other side of the desk was not impressed with his demands or the arguments he was using to back them up. He'd just hauled the man out of the Lieutenant's room and was laying down a few demands of his own… He demanded to know what kind of sadist prodded an unconscious man with the tip of a pocket knife to see if he could get him to wake up. He also demanded the man leave the building before he forgot his oath to 'do no harm'.

It didn't take them long to choose sides and Chief and Casino helped the man comply with the 'leave the building immediately and don't come back' demand. They'd seen him around HQ, he'd even debriefed them a couple of times. They didn't like him. Considering how much sharper Chief's knife was than the average pocket knife Rawlins figured his place was with the two hot heads and he left Actor to explain who they were and to talk their way into the CO's room….which he did with no trouble at all. When they returned they set up a rotating watch. Someone sat with the Warden, the rest waited outside. If they went to the cafeteria one stayed behind to act as a runner.

They were on their second rotation.

Actor leaned forward into the light when he saw him open his eyes; there was no sign of recognition on his face. "Lieutenant, can you hear me?" He got no response. The con man watched Garrison's eyes wander around the dimly lit room, lingering here and there as he studied objects that caught his interest. When they again came to a stop on his face they studied him with the same detached curiosity.

"Lieutenant, do you know me?" he asked. The slight frown on his commander's face caused him to prompt, "Warden, what is my name?"

Garrison's eyes narrowed in concentration and he moistened his lips. "Which one?" he whispered.

Actor smiled in relief. "Can you tell me what happened to you?"

"Avalanche."

The group's second-in-command nodded. That would explain the various bruises, abrasions, cracked ribs and sprains. "Did you complete your mission?" He was relieved again when the younger man nodded. At least he wouldn't be sent out again when he recovered. "Can you tell me what the mission was?" Garrison shook his head and there was a slight smile on his face as he closed his eyes. They both knew he couldn't answer that question, just as they both knew Actor would always ask it.
