One of the guards marched dully to the cell. "Guard, let us out immediately!" Elladan insisted. "We must speak at once to the king! It is most urgent!"
The guard arched an unimpressed eyebrow. "What could possibly be so urgent that two girly prisoners demand an interview with his majesty?" He jested.
"Sir, it greatly concerns the fate of your kingdom." Elrohir tried to explain.
"I will speak with Captain Skandar." The guard mumbled.
"See that you do!" Elladan insisted.
"'Dan, do you think that Ada knew this all along?" Elrohir asked.
"He would've informed us, wouldn't he?"
"Surely! He would not withhold such vital truths if it will prevent Estel's well-being."
"Ai. Then he must not have foreseen this!"
"If what we perceive is true, then King Thranduil was in the right to whisk Alasse and the child away to the Greenwood." Elrohir stated.
"Yes."
They heard armored boots approaching and they peered eagerly through the bars. To their potential relief, Skandar appeared. "I was informed that you wish to confess, prisoners." Skandar said smugly.
"Skandar, we must speak to Estel at once!" Elrohir exclaimed. "The fall of Gondor itself may occur from this."
"Let them out." Skandar commanded. The twins briskly scurried from the cell. "I don't believe his majesty has recovered yet from your plot, but you may remain with him until he comes to."
"We can discuss that later, my good man." Elladan said gruffly. "There are much larger matters at stake."
"Ai. Follow me."
Fynn was clearly distressed sitting at his master's bedside. His gaze never left Aragorn since he'd been placed in bed and fully guarded. He was scared of the twins when they appeared. "It's alright, Master Fynn." Skandar assured him. "The king is in no danger, not with my presence in the room!"
"Are you sure, my lord?" Fynn gulped.
"Ai, lad." Skandar smiled.
Elladan and Elrohir tried rousing Aragorn, but their potent sedative had taken full effect, which meant...he would not awaken until the next morning! Of all times for one of their pranks to actually work, and without being detected and thwarted?!
They stressed to Skandar that Damien must be kept under maximum security, and that once Aragorn had come to and heard their discovery, that he'd most likely have Damien summoned immediately for further, and perhaps uglier interrogation.
Aragorn awoke at dawn the next day. Albeit, he was reluctant to abandon his blissful slumber. "Your majesty!" Fynn cried for joy, grasping Aragorn's hand. "Oh, my lord, I was so dreadfully worried!"
Aragorn smiled warmly, but bewildered. "Worried? Why, Fynn?" He asked.
"You collapsed, out cold." Fynn explained. "These two elves poisoned you! They tried to kill you!"
"What? Kill me?" Aragorn sat up quickly. "Poison?" Elladan smacked his forehead.
"We gave you a sedative to give you a proper rest." Elrohir spoke quickly. "And it worked too! But, Estel, that is beside the point! We have vital information we feel you may find sound."
"What is it?" Aragorn panted. "Tell me, my brothers, what have you discovered?!"
"Estel, if our suspicion is infallible," Elladan began, "we feel that-"
"Estel, it only makes sense to us that Lord Arehada is not truly himself, Lord Arehada, that is! We believe the man claiming to be Lord Arehada is really Vincent Merlyn!"
