Sorry for my bad English.
I had to think a lot about what to say in this chapter, and what you will read about it right now is what I theorize about the problems about the professors teaching methods.
They may not be one-hundred percent correct but is what I could get from how they deal with their students.
Unicorn returned to Beacon after her talk with Glynda.
She was surprised by what she spoke with the blonde teacher. Normally Glynda would just scold her and Unicorn would respond with her usual rebellious behavior.
It is not like Unicorn wanted to behave like that, but since their first conversation, Glynda would automatically assume that Unicorn was the one responsible for every trouble she found herself in.
Talk during the classes was prohibited, so she shut Eclair's mouth.
She was sexually harassed by Viridian, so she defended herself.
She sleeps in Port's classes since he had nothing important to say.
And between her and Nora, everyone knows that Nora is the one who always starts the trouble.
Everyone knows that once Eclair starts to talk, she speaks more than Oobleck after his second cup of coffee.
Yang Xiao Long once send Viridian to the wall for passing a hand on her.
And no one never says a word about Nora, not wanting to have their legs broken by the orange-haired psycho.
Yet, every time Glynda assumed she was the guilty one for everything. Sure, she could have found a better way to deal with all her troubles, but she never saw Glynda questioning or scolding those who messed with her.
Now she just talked with her less favorite teacher who told to her listen to her teachers and then they will listen to her.
This will work? She doesn't know, but if it was going to stop the headache she is having from having to talk with Glynda, it was a worthy shot. What could she lose? The situation could not be more annoying for both parties, could it?
She kicked the door of the staff room, making Oobleck and Port jump in surprise at the sudden entrance.
-Ms. Unicorn? -Port asked followed by Oobleck.
-What are you...
-I want to talk. -She spoke.
They both changed confused glances and look back at her.
-About what, may we ask?
-About everything I said to Glynda, which you both were listening to.
This caught both professors by surprise.
-You... knew we were there?
-I can smell the coffee from kilometers.
Oobleck could swear that he head Port holding a chuckle as he keeps eye contact with Unicorn.
-Right. About our methods of teaching. -Oobleck stated. -The answer may be obvious but I will still ask. You mean every single word you spoke in the infirmary?
-Each word. -Unicorn stated. -I don't know how can you except to everyone learn if they can keep with what you are saying.
-I say that you are overreacting. Ms. Schnee is doing splendidly in my class.
-And how many more? -Unicorn asked.
Oobleck opened his mouth to answer when his mind drew a blank. Of course, the students like Weiss and Pyrrha, who already had high grades from their previous academies, were doing great in his classes. His other students meanwhile were having problems to keep going with the class.
-If what you say is true, why no one of them come to me about this?
-It is not easy to ask for help from some people. -Unicorn answered. -They feel embarrassed that they are behind those who are doing good. It makes them feel bad about themselves.
-This is ridiculous! -Oobleck began. -I'm here as a teacher to give the knowledge of what happened in the past so we can learn with it and make a better history for the next generation! If they have a doubt or two, they are free to ask me that I will not look down on them.
-This is also something they don't know. -Unicorn stated. -But also can help if you slow down a bit while speaking.
-What do you mean?
-Do I need to explain that? -After her rhetoric question, Unicorn left the professor to ponder and turned to Port. -And you remember what problem I have with you, right?
-I admit that my tales may take some time of the class, but if you listen closely, you may hear information that will help them to fight against those monsters.
-Sir, I heard two times your tales and only heard useful information after twenty-five minutes, and after that, some of my classmates were too much busy fighting against boredom to pay attention.
-You really will blame me for sharing my old glories?
-Do you like to be a professor?
The question caught Port by surprise.
-What kind of question is that? Of course, I like to be the mentor of future generations?
-So why bring so often your old feats?
-I want to inspire my students, to make them see themselves like I was during my past victories.
-And only you must be the hero of those tales?
-What is planning to get with this conversation Ms. Unicorn?
-That while you like to be a mentor for the future generations, it seems that you are missing the times you were on the battlefield.
This caught Port by surprise because she was not exactly wrong about her statement.
Of course, he was honored to be chosen to teach the future defenders of the world, but also misses the times of battles, when he used to fight against the grimms one-on-one or even one-on-five.
This is the reason he likes so much to talk about his old adventures?
He was having difficulty thinking about it because he was also thinking about the second thing Unicorn asked.
He knew very reputed huntsmen who were so good as him, even better. Yet, he talks only about himself when a tale of combat against the enemies of mankind comes to his mind.
He could talk about his mentor, about how he was able to kill a grimm as big as a house with only a short sword while climbing on the grimm's body. Or about the huntress who cut out her long beautiful hair to make an improvised weapon and after freeing herself from bandits, she fought all of them while swinging her improvised weapon like a flail.
He felt especially guilty about not mention how his first combat teacher stayed behind to hold off a horde of grimms to give a chance to the population of a small village to be rescued, completely alone against dozen of monsters and killing good part of them, but ultimately falling victim of their numbers. The news about it broke tears to almost all of his students, who swore to remember and pass his tale ahead, something he forgets to do.
-So... -Unicorn interrupted his thoughts. -There something you guys want to tell me?
-Do we need to tell you? -Oobleck asked.
-No, I was trying to be polite.
-This is hard to believe coming from you. -Port commented. -Your behavior so far is unacceptable, your behavior with your classmates also can not be ignored, not to mention the way you handle the situation.
-If you ever have problems with your school life, you can come to the staff for help. -Oobleck spoke. -We are here not only to teach but to help with anything our students need.
-Which means no more fights with Ms. Valkyrie.
-No more physical assault against your classmates.
-No more rude statements.
-No more getting late to classes.
-If any problem you have that you resolved by what we mentioned before just start again, please call for us and we shall help any way we can.
-Even if is with team RWBY? -Unicorn asked.
-If any student causes trouble to you, just call us for help and we shall find a solution that satisfies both parties. -Port answered and then raised an eyebrow. -But I'm curious, why team RWBY specifically?
-It is because... nevermind. It is better if I talk to the headmaster about this.
Both Port and Oobleck were curious about what she means, but decide to let Ozpin deal with this. After all, he also has his share of problems with Unicorn.
Weiss Schnee was walking alone through the corridors after done with her studies. After passing almost two hours in the library, she was finally walking back to her dorm. But when she passed through the teacher's lounge, she was surprised to see Unicorn leaving the room.
No one has seen Port or Oobleck after the classes have ended and the same could be said about Unicorn, and Weiss theorized that the girl was alone with her professors the whole afternoon which made her curious.
She did not remember Unicorn doing anything that would anger her professors during classes and yes, Unicorn's classmates know about how much headache she causes to the professors, so seeing Unicorn leaving the teacher's lounge made Weiss curious.
Unicorn notices the heiress, but decide to ignore her and walk back to her room, she had a lot to talk about, and they talked a lot.
Turns out, there was more than just they spoke at the beginning of their conversations, about why she should care about her studies, what her teachers could teach her, what she could learn from interactions with her classmates.
Putting it short, they talked about all the troubles she was causing to them and for herself, as well they talked about their methods of teaching, giving them some tips on how they could improve, but not even her thought that talk could last so long.
With all they said to her in her mind, she put some thought about everything she was going to work around in the academy. It is only fair that if they will change their teaching methods, she also should improve her behavior towards everyone in the academy.
End of the chapter.
Not knowing when students need help and basking too much in his old glories to notices that he is barely teaching anything. Those are the conclusions I took from any problem regarding their teaching.
I mean, Oobleck thought to be a surprise when he thought that Jaune wanted to answer his question, and from what I heard Port talks too much about his own tales, like he just want to go back on those times.
I may be wrong of course.
Unicorn, of course, will have to learn to get along her classmates and teachers, but she can? Let's find out on the next chapter.
See you next time.
