Ryo took out his deck from his duel disk and put it away, confusing Sora.
"You're switching?" Sora asked.
"I like to…. keep it fresh." Ryo took out another deck and placed it into the slot as it auto-shuffled.
"Wait, no… Cyberdarks?!"
"Cyberdarks?!" Grace yelled. Grace and Reiji were tied up in the chains and now could only watch.
"What are Cyberdarks?" Reiji asked.
"A deck made by Cobra… it harms the body when using it." Sora explained.
"A deck which harms the body? How… why make it?"
"Cobra made it to push Ryo even further into the darkness… and the cards emit a special charge….. he is hit by small jolts of electric each time he plays one." Grace replied.
"Yes!" Ryo smugly spoke before laughing to himself. "I love this deck but I can't use it as much as I would like due to health reasons…. but this is a nice time to bring them out to play!"
"And I'll make sure I'll spoil the fun." Sora replied. "Let's duel!"
Turn 1

"I'll start by setting my Pendulum Scales with scale one Edge Imp Cotton Eater and scale eight Fluffal Angel!" A young blonde angel with pink cheeks emerged along with a candy apple with wings.
Eater 1 - 8 Angel
"So you're using Pendulums as well?"
"Yeah and this power has enhanced my deck! I play the Spell Frightfur Patchwork which lets me add a Edge Imp Monster and a Polymerization to my hand! I add Edge Imp Sabres and of course a Polymerization!"
"Now bring it on!"
"I summon Fluffal Dog!" A brown and white small dog appeared with angel wings.
Fluffal Dog ATK: 1700 DEF: 1000 Earth/Fairy/LVL 4
"I can add a Fluffal Monster to my hand from my deck and I add Fluffal Owl! I use Polymerization to fuse Owl and Sabres!"
A yellow owl along with Edge Imp Sabres which comprised of many sharp scissors connected in a row fused in the whirlpool.
"I Fusion Summon Frightfur Kraken!" The purple squid with blades on two of its arms emerged in defence.

"Cotton Eater gives it a 300 attack boost since it's a Fusion Monster!"

"And when I Fusion Summon, once per turn I can draw a card! And now I use Angel's effect! I can summon a Fluffal from my graveyard! Return Owl in defence!"

"When summoned I can add another Polymerization to my hand! I set one card and end my turn."

"I draw! I use Foolish Burial so I can send Cyberdark Claw from deck to the grave. Next I play a Field Spell! Cyberdark Inferno!"
Around the field fire shot out from the ground encasing the duelists, there was no way to escape.
"Great, we're stuck and now hot…." Grace murmured.
"As you know, Sora… this stops you from destroying my equipped Monsters with card effects! Now I summon Cyberdark Keel!" A metallic serpent emerged.
Cyberdark Keel ATK: 800 DEF: 800 Dark/Machine/LVL 3
Ryo felt a small pinch inside his chest as he flinched.
"That's the stuff…. Now Keel's effect! I equip Claw from my graveyard to Keel!"
A green dragon emerged which had a slim neck with one red eye. It had fangs while being attached to a green-scaled body with blades connected all around it. Keel fired out wires from its body, equipping Claw to itself.
"Keel gains Claw's attack points!"
Keel ATK: 2400
"Now! Keel attacks Fluffal Owl!"
Keel launched needles of energy from its mouth wiping out Fluffal Owl.
"Keel's effect inflicts 300 damage to you when it destroys a Monster!" Ryo smirked as Sora pinched his chest.
Sora LP: 4000 – 3700
Sora LP: 3700 - 2300
"I use my Trap Fluffal Crane! I return Owl to my hand since it was destroyed and I get to draw a card!"
"Irrelevant! Now Claw's effect! When it's equipped to a Monster which destroyed one of your Monsters I send a Monster from my extra deck to the graveyard!"
"Send an extra deck Monster?" Grace questioned.
"I thought you knew this deck?" Reiji replied.
"Yeah but not every detail…."
"Great…" Sora sighed.
"You thought you had an advantage on me? You always were an inferior to me! I send Cyberdarkness Dragon! I set two cards!" Ryo yelled as he bent down to his knees.
"You're inflicting pain on yourself… don't be stupid!" Sora replied.
"No! This is great!" he said as he stood up while bearing the pain. "It gives me that rush of excitement!"
"No, Ryo…. you just think that!" Sora yelled.
Flashback – 3 Years Ago – Academia
"Keep moving!" yelled Saunders. The man who wore a black military outfit while holding a red stick was going over the entrance fitness exams for the students who had joined Academia in its first year of forming.
The students were all unassigned and the fitness test was a major part of their entrance exams.
In the group was Sora who like many orphans, was sent to Academia to become the first set of soldiers. He was also with Ryo and Sho, Ryo's younger brother who had light blue hair and small white glasses. They along with the rest of the group wore long blue training shirts with black braces with black pants.
The group were going through an obstacle course comprised of monkey bars, ropes and crawling through nets.
Sora and Ryo were crawling through the nets, head to head and in front of the rest.
"Keep going, Ryo… try to keep up!" Sora said with a smirk as he took the lead.
"As if!" Ryo joked back as he got back in front.
The two came out from under the nets and saw the final hurdle, a giant wall with a rope. They both grabbed the rope and begun to climb up.
Ryo and Sora both got to the midpoint, as this point Ryo quickly looked back and saw other students coming through the nets.
"Where are you, Sho?!" he thought.
"Marufuji, move!" Saunders bellowed.
"Sorry sir!" Ryo reached the top along with Sora and climbed down the rope on the other side. The two ran to the finishing line but Sora found a last burst of pace to finish first with Ryo coming second.
The two fell to the ground, catching their breath.
"Why did you stall, Ryo?" Sora asked.
"Just… Sho…. I didn't see him."
Ryo walked around the side of the course and saw many more students finishing.
"You have got to be joking!" Ryo yelled as he saw Sho struggling on the second hurdle… out of ten. Sho struggled to get through the monkey bars.
"Brother…." Sho thought as he saw Ryo. This distraction made him lose grip in his hands and fell to the ground with a heavy thud.
"Sho, are you okay?!"
"Stand back, Marufuj!" Saunders yelled to Ryo.
"Yes… sir."
"Get here boy!" Saunders took Sho by the ear.
"No, please!"
"You see this course! You need to pass this to even get to Obelisk Blue! Halfway is Ra Yellow… but mixed with your duel results and your performance here… you're going to Slifer Red…."
"Well… okay I guess…"
"Oh no, kid…. it's not okay! Because failure to show improvement…. well you're going to be in more pain then this!" Saunders pushed the kid to the ground and walked off to collect the results.
"Sho….. are you okay?" Ryo said as he went to him.
"I'm sorry…. I let you down."
"No… don't worry, I'll help you." Ryo comforted.
From the sky was one of Academia's crystal cameras watching down.
Flashback End
"Things change!" Ryo yelled. "I was weak but…. I saw the true path! I end my turn!"
"I used to think like that…. but I was wrong!" Sora replied.
Turn 3

"I draw! I use Fluffal Angel's effect to summon Sabre from my graveyard!"

"I summon Fluffal Owl!"

"I add Polymerization to my deck from my hand and Ifuse it with Fluffal Rabbit in my hand with my other Polymerization! I Fusion Summon once more! Appear Frightful Jaguar!" A stuffed jaguar emerged onto the field with gears on its joints. It had bright red eyes.
Frightfur Jaguar ATK: 2500 DEF: 2000 Dark/Fiend/Fusion/LVL 8
"Jaguar gains 300 attack thanks to Cotton and I draw a card!"
Jaguar ATK: 2800
"Depending on the number of Fluffal and Frightfur Monsters on my field I can send a card back to your hand! I return Inferno and the two set cards."
Jaguar unleashed a growl which created a supersonic blast, removing the three cards from the field.
"Since Inferno was still on the field…. he couldn't remove Keel…. still he can easily destroy it!" Grace stated.
"Each Frightfur gains 500 each for each Frightfur on the field thanks to Jaguar's other effect!"
Jaguar ATK: 3300
Kraken ATK: 3000
"I switch Kraken to attack position, go Kraken!" Sora yelled as his Kraken sliced across Keel, damaging the dragon.
Ryo LP: 4000 – 3400
"Keel's effect! I destroy Cyberdark Claw instead!" Claw vanished as Keel returned to its original attack.
Keel ATK: 800
"Jaguar attacks!" Jaguar slammed into Keel and destroyed it. Ryo felt a large charge of shock run through his body, he screamed.
Ryo LP: 3400 – 900
"Jaguar's third effect inflicts damage to you equal to the destroyed Monster's attack!"
"No it won't!" Ryo replied with a smirk despite clearly being weakened. "I send Cyberdark Blade from my hand to the graveyard while I control no Monsters to end the Battle Phase!"
"Fine but at the end of the Battle Phase Kraken can return to defence." Sora gritted his teeth. "I end my turn with a face down."
"And during the End Phase it's sent to the graveyard, I can summon a Cyberdark from my deck or graveyard. I choose Cyberdark Edge!" A green dragon appeared with claws on the tips of its wings.
Cyberdark Edge ATK: 800 DEF: 800 Dark/Machine/LVL 4
Turn 4
Sora LP: 2300 Hand: 2
Ryo LP: 900 Hand: 3
"Draw! I summon Cyberdark Horn!"
Cyberdark Horn ATK: 800 DEF: 800 Dark/Machine/LVL 4
"Now I play my Field Spell once more!" Flames appeared around the duelists. "I use one of the Spells you sent back to my hand, Sora! Mystical Space Typhoon destroys my Infero!"
"But why?" Sora replied as the blue typhoon spun around the field, extinguishing the flames.
"Because when it's destroyed I can add a Fusion Card to my hand! Cyberdark Impact Fusion!"
"Grace, do you know what he's planning?" Reiji asked.
"Not a clue. We only know about some of these cards from rumours and whispers… Ryo only ever used them as punishment on other students… other students who didn't make it back…"
"Well you can witness what they can truly do!" Ryo smirked back. Ryo begun to breathe faster as his heart sped up.
"You're hurting yourself!" Sora snapped.
"This pain gives me the motivation… to be the strongest…. to know that I can handle it and to know that no one else can so that when I inflict this pain onto them… I'm superior!"
"You're superior in being an idiot!" Grace yelled back.
"Says the traitor caught in my chains! I play Cyberdark Impact Fusion! I return Edge, Horn, Claw, Keel and Blade back to my deck!"
"Five Monsters?!" Sora gasped.
"Yes! And all will form this, Cyberdarkness Dragon!" Each of the Monsters formed to create a silhouette of a dragon which begun to absorb darkness from the shadows around.
The Monster had a beige body with a dark pink head with tusks going around its mouth. It had a long purple tail with sharp spikes coming out of its body. Its ultimate weapon was the red cannon on top of its torso.
Cyberdarkness Dragon ATK: 2000 DEF: 2000 Dark/Machine/Fusion/LVL 10
"A level ten with 2000 attack?" Sora questioned. "Its effect must-"
"It WILL win me this duel! I use its effect to equip a Dragon Monster from my graveyard to it and it gains its attack! I choose the Cyberdarkness Dragon I sent before!"
"He's using two of the same Monster to power them up…. he knew this was going to be his end plan all along…." Grace reluctantly said.
Cyberdarkness from Ryo's graveyard became a shadow which flew inside of the other Cyberdarkness, increasing its attack.
Cyberdarkness ATK: 4000
As Cyberdarkness growled, Ryo gripped his chest ever harder than before.
"Yes… I hear you… and don't worry… it won't be long!"
"If these cards were made in this world…. then Cyberdarkness' soul must be made of pure evil." Reiji stated.
"Yeah he said this deck was made for him…. so unlike the cards from the original world…. it's safe to assume all Academia made cards are…. just like this." Grace replied.
"No wonder it strains his body."
"Cyberdarkness, wipe out Kraken!"
The cannon on Cyberdarkness locked onto the Frightfur and fired a rapid fireball at the beast, all Sora could do is watch it strike his Monster. The force of the impact sent Sora across the street.
"Sora! You okay?!" Grace yelled.
"I'm fine…." Sora replied, flinching.
"I set one card… you have one more turn, traitor…. what can you do?!"
"You call us traitors but you're saying you're throwing away Academia?!"
"In regards to my personal army!"
"There are students in Xyz who follow you and not Academia?!"
"Yes! You and Grace would've been more than welcome but you turned your backs on those ideals!"
"No, Ryo… it was you! You're the one who turned his back on his ideals!"
Flashback – 3 Years Ago
A few weeks after the students had been sorted into classes, Ryo and Sora were about to duel inside the coliseum.
"Come on, Brother!" Sho yelled from the stands.
"Be quiet, Sho! Shouldn't you be studying?!" Ryo hit back.
"But… I came to support you on this test…"
"Ryo… you don't need to be so harsh on your brother." Sora said. "You've been like this for weeks!"
"I know…. but I want to move on quickly from being an Obelisk Blue to a higher rank! I could be the first to get promoted!"
"Well if you can beat me…." Sora smirked back.
"Frightfur Tiger, end this!"
The blue tiger with scissors connected to its waist unleashed its sharp claws and hit Ryo across the chest, making him fall down.
Ryo LP: 1200 – 0 Sora Wins
"Congratulations, Shiunin." Saunders said from the viewing gallery. "This will be considered carefully. As for you Marufuji, this might be your first defeat but it was a bad one. Don't show this again."
The crowd in the coliseum slowly dispersed, as they walked out Ryo heard some whispers going around.
"That's Sho's brother….."
"No wonder he's so bad…."
"He must've got lucky!"
Ryo stood up and clenched his fist.
"No! No I didn't!"
Sho entered the field with a look of sadness and regret. He went towards the duelist.
"It's okay, Brother, you tried your best…."
"Enough!" Ryo raised his hand and slapped Sho across the face.
"Ryo!" Sora yelled but Ryo already begun to exit the field.
As he entered the corridor to leave, there was Leo waiting. Sora saw this and begun to listen as he treated Sho.
"As you told you, Ryo…. he's going to bring you down." Leo stated.
"I… should've listened."
"After the initial tests I knew that you had it in you but your brother weighed you down. This test was important and your brother being here got into your head!"
"I'm sorry, Leo… but he's still my brother."
"I understand. You've all just been through a devastating war…. I understand you looked after your brother during the war… I understand it was tough and you barely survived…"
"I wasn't strong enough…. people stole from us….. I couldn't do anything as Sho was always clinging onto me!" Ryo slammed the wall with his fist.
"The strongest thrive upon the weak. It's the natural order of things. I see great things in you, Ryo…. but you're being chained down by love. That feeling of uselessness… it comes from one person. You might love him but… having people laugh at you… steal from you… is that what you really want in life?"
"No! No of course not!"
"Just bare that in mind." Leo turned and walked away.
Days Later
"These duel disks…. they can turn people into cards…. amazing!" Sora said in awe as he and Ryo walked down a corridor with their new Academia duel disks.
"Yes and now we can purge the weak from our ranks!" Ryo smirked.
"You seem to have changed…." Sora replied.
"The word is improved! Now excuse me, Sora." Ryo walked off and headed towards the coliseum once again.
…
Ryo sat in the viewing gallery as Sho's class were dueling one another with an instructor keeping an eye out on each.
"I use….. Polymerization to fuse… um….." Sho stuttered as he looked at his extra deck via his duel disk menu.
"Hurry up!" the opponent in Slifer Red yelled.
"I'm sorry…! I fuse two Cycroid's to Fusion Summon Pair Cycroid!"
Pair Cycroid ATK: 1600 DEF: 1200 Earth/Machine/Fusion/LVL 5
"Now I use its effect… I….."
"You don't know your cards own effect?!"
"I only just choose it… I…"
"Marufuji, enough!" yelled the instructor. "Terminate your duel and report to the detention hall!"
"I…. sorry…" Sho slumped over and took off his duel disk before heading to the exit, at this point Ryo got up and walked to the same door.
Sho looked down at the ground as Ryo blocked the exit. Sho saw a shadow and looked up.
"Brother?!"
"Enough of this embarrassing nonsense!" Ryo yelled.
The whole class turned and saw Ryo push Sho back in.
"Ryo Marufuji?" the instructor spoke. "Can I help you?"
"Silence!"
"You shouldn't be here!"
"ENOUGH!" Ryo yelled.
As the instructor was about to reply he saw Leo in the viewing gallery looking at him with a cold stare.
"Y… yes, sorry." the instructor replied. "Class… dismissed…"
"They all stay!" Ryo ordered.
"Brother…. what is this?" Sho said as he faced Ryo.
"You're weak. You embarrass me, you make me look weak! You're a baby!"
"I'm sorry!"
"This is what I need to do to become number one!" Ryo held out his duel disk and Sho had no idea what was happening.
"Brother?"
Ryo didn't reply as the bright purple light emerged from the duel disk. The light blinding everyone in the class as a scream was heard.
Once it faded everyone looked up and saw Ryo holding the card of his brother.
"Where… where did he go….?" stuttered the instructor.
"Right here!" Ryo threw the card to the ground so the students could see the terrified remnant of Sho.
"This… this…."
"This is what we'll do to the weak… make sure you don't join him!" Ryo laughed to himself as he exited, in the viewing gallery Leo connected to Cobra via the machine in his head.
"Did it work?" Leo asked.
"Yes, Leo, it did. The Arc Area Project has its first soul!"
Behind the viewing gallery door was Sora listening to Ryo and Leo. He walked away once Leo finished his call.
Flashback End
"At the time I accepted it… like everyone else I listened to the Professor… the supposed saviour of our world but I was wrong! Can't you see he manipulated you?!"
"I've become better than Leo in all regards!" Ryo replied.
"He saw your frustration, your anger… he used that to make you hate your brother!"
"He did nothing but point me in the right direction! I haven't felt weak for years!"
"You're insane!" Sora yelled.
Turn 5

"I'll win this duel and make sure you answer for your crimes! I draw! I use Angel to return Sabres!"

"I use Polymerization in my hand to fuse it with Fluffal Leo in my hand. I Fusion Summon Frightfur Tiger!"
A new Monster in the shape of a mutilated stuffed tiger appeared roaring in the field of Sora.
Frightfur Tiger 1900 ATK / 1200 DEF /Dark / Level 6 / Fiend / Fusion
"I draw a card thanks Cotton Eater, and I now I play Frightfur Fusion! I fuse Tiger, Jaguar and Kraken in my graveyard by banishing them!"
"Sora's going for his ace!" Grace said with delight as all three Frightfurs fused.
"Unusual plaything possessed by demons! Root out and destroy the plebeians who dare rebel against you! Fusion Summon! Come forth and appear chimeric fusion of all toys! Frightfur Chimera!"
A huge pink bear emerged with a bowtie. Next a monkey head on a pipe burst out from its body while a third head being a robotic goat's head with sharp fangs. The beast stamped down onto the field with anvil feet.
Frightfur Chimera ATK: 2800 DEF: 2000 Dark/Fiend/Fusion/LVL 8
"It gains 300 attack thanks to Cotton!"
Chimera ATK: 3100
"Even if Ryo has something… I have De-Fusion set to help me out." Sora thought. "I now play Fusion Glory! This Spell switches our Monster's attacks!"
"And now I use this! Darkness' effect! By destroying the equipped Monster I negate and destroy the card!"
Darkness let out a screech as Sora's Spell was negated and destroyed.
Cyberdarkness Dragon ATK: 2000
"But now Ryo's attack is less?!" Grace questioned. "And when Chimera attacks, Ryo can't activate any cards?"
"Ryo would've known that." Reiji added.
"That's why you took out my Kraken…. he's been playing me along but it won't work like that! I still have Chimera! And Grace is right you can't use any effects! GO!"
Chimera launched claws at Cyberdarkness as Ryo just smirked.
"No…. did I miss something?!" Sora panicked.
"A Cyberdark summoned via the effects of Cyberdark Impact Fusion can't be destroyed by battle and damage is also zero once!"
"And that effect happens the moment it was summoned so it's not activation…. Chimera's attack is useless!" Grace added as Chinmera was blocked by a shield made up of parts of all the Cyberdarks.
Sora gritted his teeth before taking a lollipop from his pocket and putting it in his mouth.
"Stressed? I would be, you're going to be a card very soon! Starting with my Trap! Cyberdark Barrier Strike! If one Monster on your field failed to battle a Fusion Cyberdark I control, that card is destroyed and you take Cyberdarkness' attack value at the start of this turn as damage!"
"Which is….. 4000?!" Grace stuttered.
"Sora!" Reiji yelled.
The Trap fired dark energy at Sora in rapid blasts, sending the boy flying into the sky and his lollipop onto the ground, snapping it in half.
Sora LP: 2300 – 0 Ryo Wins
"Sora!" Grace tried to break out of the chains but she couldn't.
"Reiji… I'm sorry…" Sora could just about get his words out as he laid on the ground staring at the chained Grace and Reiji.
"No…. please, Sora… just run!" Reiji replied.
"I can't…. my body can't move…. this is what Ryo wanted me to feel…. but do one thing…. tell Yuzu and Yuya…. thank you."
As Sora finished his words Ryo's bright light from his duel disk filled the street. Reiji or Grace couldn't watch.
The light faded and a card dropped on the floor. Sora was now gone.
"Ryo! You monster!" Grace roared.
Ryo stepped on the card as he clutched his chest from the duel.
"I hope you suffer!" Grace added.
"I hope so too…." Ryo replied, winded. "Now then…. let's have a small trip shall we?!" Ryo hit his duel disk and Reiji and Reiji all vanished.
Yuzu
Yuzu's group awaited a response from Rio but nothing was coming.
"This is ridiculous!" Ray said. "Yuzar might be patrolling but we can't stay here locked away by fear!"
"Ray…. don't even think about it…." Yuzu replied.
"We have to! I'll free Yuzar, I have to!" Ray burst out of the abandoned home and headed towards the base.
"She's insane!" Luna said. As she did Yuzu followed Ray out of the home.
Coliseum
Reira, Gongenzaka and Masumi were freed from their chains and each had been given shock collars in a makeshift jail.
"We won't duel for anyone!" Masumi yelled.
"You will…. you don't want to see this young one hurt, right?" said the male who locked the cage. It was Shark.
